Jasmine’s POV

I woke around Noon the next day feeling very well rested.

I immediately caught the scent of my mate and knew it had not been too long since he had left the room.

For a moment, I wondered how I could have known that before the memories of the night flooded my mind.

I had finally gotten my wolf.

I was no longer the werewolf without a wolf.

I would no longer be considered weak or unworthy to stand beside my mate as his Luna.

Tears gathered in my eyes as I thought of how my parents would react to the news of me finally getting my wolf.

I thought to call her but remembered that I had yet to choose a name for her.

‘How do you feel?’ I heard her calm voice in my head and smiled, knowing she had read my mind.

‘Strong’, I told her honestly, a wide smile appearing on my lips.

I got off my bed and made my way to my closet to search for clothes and a towel.

‘What are you doing?’ I heard her ask as I made my way towards the door rather than to the washroom.

‘I thought it would be nice to go for a swim’, I told her. ‘It is usually empty at this time of the day’.

I felt her nod in agreement.

‘I would like to go running sometime’, she said.

‘We can go running with our mate after the evening meal’, I told her and felt her excitement.

‘What is he like?’ She asked. ‘Our mate’.

I was already on the path leading to the stream and her question brought an unconscious smile to my lips.

‘He is strong and powerful’, I told her. ‘He is very protective. He is a good werewolf and a wonderful Alpha. And he cares about us very much’, I told her and felt her happiness at my words.

‘We are lucky to have him’, she said as we arrived at the stream.

‘We are’, I agreed and made my way towards my usual part of the stream that was hidden from view. The same place I had been attacked not too long ago.

‘Who would dare?!’ I heard her ask angrily as the memory of that day came to mind.

‘Do not worry yourself’, I told her. ‘We will never have to worry about her ever again’.

I felt her calm down at the news before I stripped off my clothes and entered into the water.

I swam peacefully for a while, getting to know my wolf better before I finally went back to the house.

Since it seemed like no one else was home, I made myself a simple breakfast before heading to the pack house to see my mate.

I could smell his intoxicating scent even before I made it to the pack house.

When I opened the door to his study and entered, it was to see him busy going through papers behind his desk.

Knowing he had already caught my scent, I simply made my way over to him and went around his desk to sit in his lap before wrapping my arms around his neck.

He immediately buried his face in my neck to kiss the part that bore his mark before pulling away to take my lips in a heated kiss.

By the time we pulled away, I was breathless and my lips were swollen.

‘Our mate is so perfect’, I heard my wolf say in a dazed tone that made me laugh.

Regan arched an eyebrow in question, amusement shining in his eyes.

“My wolf thinks you are perfect”, I told him with a smile.

He broke into a breathtaking smile before it slowly faded.

I suddenly had a feeling of worry slip into me.

‘What is that?’ I asked my wolf.

‘That’s not our emotion’, she told me. ‘It is his’.

But when I looked closely at him, he looked away before speaking again.

“Well, I am glad your wolf thinks so highly of me”, he said, attempting to sound fine.

I simply stared at him, not saying anything at all.

“What is the matter?” I asked when he would not say anything and refused to meet my eyes.

He shook his head.

“Nothing”, he said, still looking away.

“And yet you will not meet my eyes”, I said. “And I can feel how worried you are”.

At my words, he looked back at me, surprise and delight in his eyes that I instantly felt.

“You can feel my emotions?” He asked.

I nodded. “So you may as well tell me what is troubling you”, I told him.

He hesitated for a moment before looking back at me.

“Tell me, Love”, he said. “What do you remember of your childhood?” He asked. “Your parents in particular”,

I frowned at the topic of conversation.

What did my parents or childhood have to do with the reason for his worry?

“I don’t remember much about them”, I told him honestly. “I believe I have told you that before”, I said.

He nodded and was quiet for a while before speaking again.

“I believe there is something you should know about”, he said.

“What is it?” I asked, growing concerned at the serious tone of his voice.

“I’m afraid I do not have all the answers”, he said. “But I am sure Nana will tell you all she knows”.

I frowned in confusion at his words but before I could ask anything, he had gently lifted me out of his lap and put me on my feet. Standing up as well, he grabbed my hand and began to lead me out of his study.

He led the way to Nana’s healing house and led us to Nana’s private medicine room, where Nana was already seated with Lena, both heads bent over what seemed to be a scroll.

They looked up at our entrance and I immediately noticed the troubled look on Lena’s face.

However, before I could ask her what the matter was, my mate spoke from beside me, leading me to a chair and gently pushing me to sit.

“Tell her everything”, he said, looking at Nana. “And do not leave anything out”, he said firmly.

Nana, taking note of his serious expression simply nodded and turned to face me.

“I am sure you are confused about all this”, she said, rising from her seat beside Lena to move over to me and take a seat on the chair in front of me.

She took my hand in her familiar gentle hold before speaking again.

“There are things I have not told you about”, she said. “And I hope you will forgive me for keeping them from you all this time”, she said, pausing to take a deep breath before continuing.

“When you first came to us, I noticed your birthmark”, she said. “There was something strangely familiar about it and I know you must have noticed me staring sometimes”, she said and I nodded, recalling those times.

“It turned out that your birthmark looked familiar because I had seen it in one of my spell books”, she said and I frowned in confusion.

She smiled meaningfully. “I know you have never asked”, she said. “But I am sure that you must have an idea of what I am”, she said and I looked down at our hands.

“I do not care that you are a witch Nana”, I told her honestly.

Her hand came up and lifted my chin to bring my eyes back to hers.

“A half-witch, my dear”, she corrected with a gentle smile. “And I know you do not care about what I am”, she said before withdrawing her hand and continuing with the story. “I found out that your birthmark was a spell. At first I thought it was just a containment spell but it turns out that it was a concealment spell as well”, she said and I was completely lost as to what she was talking about.

Probably seeing it on my face, she explained.

“I believe someone put a spell on you when you were younger to contain your wolf. That was the reason you could not have access to your wolf”, she said and I froze in shock.

She carried on. “At first I thought it was to harm you but I later discovered that whoever had put the spell on you had been trying to protect you”, she said.

“I-I”, I could not help but stammer in confusion. “I do not understand”, I told her.

She squeezed my hand in hers. “It seems that someone put a spell on you. Two I believe. One to contain your wolf from surfacing and the other to conceal the markings on your wolf that finally appeared after you shifted”, she said. “I believe the person made sure the only way to break the spell was you completing the mating ritual and being marked. That way whoever had put the spell on you in the first place ensured that you had someone who was bound to protect you”.

Her words floated around my mind as I tried to understand them.

“But why would anyone put a spell on me?” I asked, voicing out my thoughts.

“Like I said, to protect you, my dear”, she said.

“Protect me from what?” I asked. “I do not understand!”

Probably sensing the whirlwind of emotions I was experiencing, Regan made his way over to me and pulled me into his arms.

As I inhaled his scent, I felt myself calm down.

Probably feeling that I was calmer, he pulled away but stayed close and kept a hand on my shoulder.

“Your wolf is a pure white wolf”, she said and I looked at her expectantly, waiting for her to continue. “It has been said that pure white wolves were direct descendants of the Moon Goddess herself and are of the Royal bloodline. A bloodline that has been extinct for over a century now”, she said.

I looked from her to Regan and Lena before looking back at her.

“You do not seriously believe that, do you?” I asked but the expressions on their faces told me that they did.

“I am not Royalty”, I said when no one responded.

“But you do not know that”, Nana said. “It is too much of a coincidence, my dear”, she said. “I believe that someone was aware that you are of the Royal bloodline and tried to protect you by keeping your wolf hidden until you found someone who could protect you, your mate”, she said.

I shook my head in disbelief.

“Nana, you cannot possibly believe that I am of Royal blood”, I said.

“I’m afraid I have no choice but to believe”, she said. “There is too much of the hand of fate for it to be a coincidence”, she said firmly.

“But even if it is true, which I doubt, why is it such a bad thing?” I asked. “Why did someone have to go through so much effort to protect me?” I asked.

“Because if you are of the Royal bloodline, then it means you are in danger”, she said and I felt fear at her words.

Regan’s hand on my shoulder gave a comforting squeeze.

“There is a reason the Royal bloodline was believed to have ended over a century ago”, she said. “It is because they were wiped out by a powerful enemy”, she said sending shivers down my spine. “And if you are part of the Royal bloodline, it means that it is only a matter of time before that enemy hears of your existence and comes for you”.

My heart skipped a beat and fear took hold of me at her words.

Regan’s arms came around me again.

“But first”, she said. “We must be certain”. Seeing’s my state, she simply went on. “Luke has been sent to bring someone that will confirm if the markings on your wolf is truly that of the Royal bloodline or not”, she said and released my hand to stand to her feet.

She moved towards the table before stopping and looking back at me.

“Until then, we wait”.

I could feel her sadness and fear through our mate bond and despite my best efforts, I could not help her feel better. However, I was embarrassed to admit that it seemed that Lena could do what I had failed to. After we had returned to the house, Lena had taken Jasmine up to her room and they had been cooped up there ever since. But through our mate bond, I could feel that whatever Lena was doing to help her feel better was working, because the feeling of fear was muted and amusement and sympathy dominated the new emotions I felt from her. Luke was expected to be back with the old she-wolf by nightfall and I truly hoped that her arrival would bring good news. Jasmine’s POV Our guests from Whitestorm pack dined with us peacefully on the night of their arrival. Throughout the meal, I was conscious of the silver eyes that watched me intently from the other end of our table. The only thing that kept me calm was the presence of my mate beside me. Unfortunately, Lena could not be of much help since she had set eyes on her mate. To say I was happy for her would be the understatement of the century. It warmed my heart each time I felt her glance up and see her gaze go straight to where her mate was seated. He in turn could not seem to take his eyes off her and it was obvious to everyone that saw him that he was completely besotted with his mate already, despite not saying even a word to each other. Though his eyes stayed on Lena, he dutifully remained at his mother’s side throughout the meal and afterwards when Nana showed them to the quarters they would be occupying during their visit. I watched as Lena’s eyes locked on her mate

Regan’s POV Arwyn. I tried to recall if I ever heard of such a name but came up blank. I had never known of anyone by that name and neither did I recall ever hearing the name before it fell from Gaia’s lips. But what troubled me wasn’t the name itself, but the reaction to the name. In all my years of knowing her, and I had known her all my life, I had never seen Nana so visibly frightened as she was at the mention of that name. Gaia herself looked so obviously uneasy that it made me worried. It did not help that I could also feel the fear in my mate as she spoke of the dream she had of the so-called Arwyn. “Who is this Arwyn?” I asked, certainly voicing out the thoughts of the younger occupants in the room. If Gaia heard me, then she chose to ignore my question because instead of replying, she grabbed my mate’s other hand from mine and held on firmly. “Show me what you saw”, she demanded and before I could reach out to pull her hands away from my mate, her body jerke

Jasmine’s POV Everything Gaia said came as a shock to me. I still found it really difficult to wrap my head around the fact that I was from the Royal bloodline. The story she told of the four sisters sounded like a tale and honestly, far fetched. But it did explain a lot. Since I was never educated and no one ever bothered to tell me anything about our origin, Gaia’s story was the closest I had ever gotten to a lesson of our history. Still, a question stood out for me, one I did not hesitate to voice out. “But if Alaric and Arwyn wiped out the Royal bloodline over a century ago, why do we still have to be afraid of them?” I asked. “They must be dead by now”, I pointed out in case someone missed it. “Precisely”, Lena said from where she was seated on her mate’s lap with his arms around her. “Is it their descendants we should be worried about?” She asked. Gaia shook her head sadly. “There is more to my story”, she said. “As I had said earlier, the Goddess of Darkness s

Regan’s POV One advantage of my mate finally having a wolf and being able to have a strong bond with her was that I could feel her emotions. As she walked away from the room, the most dominant emotion I could feel from her was fear. And that fear was not for herself. As everyone else watched her leave, I ran a hand over my face and took in a deep breath. “It must be so hard for her”, I heard Nana say and turned to her. “But she has to understand that the prophecy must be fulfilled”, she said. “She must accept it”, she told me. “Enough”, I said quietly but firmly, drawing the attention of the other occupants in the room. “Just this morning, she has found out that she is from the Royal bloodline and could possibly be in danger”, I told them. “And as if that was not enough, she just found out that she is with child. A child that an evil vampire King and mad witch will stop at nothing to try to destroy”, I reminded them. “So you will excuse her if she does not wish to accept th

Jasmine’s POV To my surprise, Regan had succeeded in her yelling my fears. Granted, the thought of an evil vampire King and a mad treacherous witch seeking to kill both me and my unborn pup was one that left me terrified. But there was a big difference. This time, I was not alone. I had my mate, my wolf, my friends turned family and my pack, all on my side. That brought me relief beyond words. After spending time with my mate for a while, Lena came up to check on me. “How do you feel?” She asked, climbing onto my bed to sit beside me and put her arms around me. I smiled at the obvious concern in her eyes. “Sincerely, I am terrified”, I told her. She looked at me closely for a short moment. “Forgive me dearest but you do not look the least bit terrified to me”, she said, making me laugh. “Truly”, she said, smiling. “You looked quite scared earlier when the news was broken to us, but now you look quite well”, she said. I recovered from my laughter but smiled

Regan’s POV I knew for a fact that Jasmine was uncomfortable with all the attention she was getting. News of her being of the Royal bloodline had spread throughout out the pack and our pack members started to treat her with something akin to worship. Unfortunately, my made was not fond of such attention. She especially did not like having to start a meal before everyone else. She often argued that since I was her mate, it was certain that I should be accorded the same respect. I always reminded her that unlike her, I did not have a drop of Royal blood. Okay hitch was not entirely true since Alphas were known to be descendants from the Royal bloodline. Though not direct descendants that had claim to the throne like my mate. After our evening meal, she had asked for a private meeting with Nana and Gaia where I had later learned she had apologized for how she had walked out on them the last time. According to Lena, who had been privileged to be present, they had gracious

Jasmine’s POV It took only one look at my mate’s face for me to know that something was troubling him. Although he smiled throughout the evening meal and tried to act like all was well, all I had to do was reach into our bond to confirm my suspicion that something was on his mind. So, in an attempt to exhibit the virtue of patience, I waited until after the meal, when we were in the safety and privacy of our room before I asked him about it. “Something clearly troubles you, love”, I said, borrowing the term of endearment that he used for me from time to time. “Will you not tell me what it is?” I asked. He smiled before moving over to sit on the bed. I moved with him, taking a seat beside him on the bed. “It is nothing you need to trouble yourself about”, he said, and tried to divert my attention by leaning down to kiss my neck. In as much as I welcomed his advances and craved his touch, I knew that whatever was on his mind would be something too important to ignore.

Jasmine’s POV I had just returned from my usual morning runs with Lena. She still could not get used to the fact that I had a wolf and her dreams of going on runs with me were being fulfilled. She also could not get over how beautiful she said Snow was. Snow had instantly taking a liking to Lena’s wolf, as I never doubted she would. And although I knew Snow was much faster, she always kept a pace that she knew Lena’s wolf could keep up with whenever we ran. We had just returned from washing up at the stream after our run when Amy ran up to join us. “Luna!” She called, panting for breath from her run. She still refused to call me by my name no matter how many times I had urged her to do so. “There’s a letter”, she said, still panting for breath. “From the Alpha”, she finally managed to get out. On hearing this, I grabbed her hand excitedly and began to pull her into another run. As she opened her mouth to protest, probably to say she could not run any longer, Lena s

Regan’s POV By the time a member of Redclaw pack came to escort us to their dining room, Luke had come to terms with the fact that he would have to face his mate, whether he liked it or not. I knew he was eager for answers to finally uncover the mystery behind his brother’s death. And so was I. But unlike Luke, I had a greater desire than that of getting answers. That desire was to see Luke finally happy, with his mate. I had always been able to read people easily, or at least feel their aura. From just our one meeting, I could tell that Luke’s mate, Zara, was not an evil person. Simply a protective and suspicious one. As we arrived at the dining room, we were ushered to our seats. Seated at the head chair of the dining table was who I knew was the Alpha of the pack, simply because of the aura I perceived from him. He looked frail and I could easily tell that he would not last too much longer. His daughter was seated to his right, and other ranked members of his p

Jasmine’s POV Since I had no choice in the matter, I took amusement from wherever I could. At the moment, the amusement I derived from the expression of disbelief on the face of my former mate was one that brought me immense satisfaction indeed. He remained standing in the same spot since he had seen me, with his Beta beside him. “So it is true then?” He asked again, the disbelief suddenly giving way to an emotion I did not quickly realize. “She has already said that it is”, Lena replied hotly from where she way seated. He finally broke his gaze away from mine to shoot her a heated glare. “And who might you be?” He asked with a threatening growl. Before I could open my mouth to warn him to not speak that way to her, her mate, whose hand remained possessively on her shoulder, spoke. “She is my mate”, Alpha Gaius said, the warning clear in his tone and the brief flickering of his eyes that warned that his wolf was not so far from the surface, ready to attack any threat

Regan’s POV It did not take us long to arrive at Redclaw pack once my request to be accepted into the pack was granted. A part of me had thought it would have been rejected and was quite satisfied with that since it meant Luke would be spared the emotional torture the meeting might turn out to be for him. All the same, he rode beside me with a straight face, obviously deep in his thoughts that I did not dare intrude upon. A part of me suddenly wished we had not come with horses. It meant our quest would have been faster in a sense. We could have run in our wolf forms to arrive at the packs we had to visit. However, three concerns had made me decide otherwise. The first was that we had planned to visit several packs, which meant we had to come with a lot of gifts for each pack we visited, hence why we had to bring along two carts. Running in our wolf form meant we would have had to carry all those tributes and gifts and would have left us exhausted very quickly, especi

Jasmine’s POV After my judgment on the mother and daughter who had lied against Amy, I noticed that members of my pack began to treat me differently. And not in a bad way. If they had treated me with anything close to respect, due to the fact that I was their Alpha’s mate, they now treated me with respect and admiration. Lena had ensured that my sentences on the mother and daughter were carried out. More than anyone, she had been proud of how I had handled the case and took great joy in narrating the occurrence in great detail to Nana and Mari, who had been disappointed that they had not been present to witness the even for themselves. Amy and Emry’s mother, who worked closely alongside Nana at the healing house was full of thanks, even going as far as shedding a few tears, to express her gratitude for how I had come to her daughter’s rescue. Like her daughter, she was a quiet she-wolf who had lost her husband years ago and worked at the healing house to provide for her

Regan’s POV After getting Stonghold pack’s pledge, we visited six more packs that gave similar responses, all pledging to come when we called. Since each pack we visited insisted we dined with them and even spend the night before continuing our journey, as was customary hospitality among werewolves, I could not turn them down without being disrespectful. Especially since I had come to seek their aid. This simply meant that our journey took longer than originally planned. I had to write to Nana to tell her that all was well with us after receiving several spelled messages from her and Gaia, all enquiring about our well being. I knew that Jasmine would be the most worried of everyone back at home. And that was the last thing I wanted, to worry or upset her in any well. It would not be good for both her and our pup. As we rested in the rooms provided for us by the current pack we were visiting, a knock on my door drew my attention from the map I had been observing. I immediat

Jasmine’s POV It was hard to cope with Regan and Luke’s absence. Especially that of my mate. I prayed so much more than I usually did for the success of their mission and for their safe return home. Concerning things at the pack, I did not have much to worry about. Regan had done an incredible work of preparing all that I would need in his absence. As he had earlier said before leaving, his Gamma handled the day to day routine and managed quite well, only coming to me when my guidance or authority was required. And I was not required much. With everything else, Nana and Lena never left my side. Always ready with help or advice whenever I would need it. Their presence made the absence of my mate bearable. Gaia had decided to check on me and the pup each day, to know if there was any immediate threat against us and how to avert it. It eased my worries each time she told me everything was well. Regan’s POV Since it was my first time being away from her, I found it somewhat difficult to adapt to the absence of my mate. Rage’s whining was not helping. He felt her absence more than I did since he felt my emotions more intensely. Even though he understood the reason we had to go, it did not stop him from sulking and whining at the absence of our mate. A part of me wanted nothing more than to turn around and return home, but it would be the wrong decision to make and I knew that. So we rode on, keeping a steady pace and rode towards the opposite path from where Blackmoon pack was. The fact that we took an entirely different route simply to avoid them spoke a lot of our hatred for them. We headed towards the next closest pack to us, a pack whose Alpha was an old friend of my father’s. I sent two of my warriors ahead to announce our arrival, and not too long after, they came back with news of the Alpha’s acceptance to have us in his pack. When we met up with a

Since that was not anything new, I simply readied myself for the day before making my way out of the room. I joined Lena in the kitchen of our house and together, we prepared breakfast. Nana was absent, as she usually was due to Gaia’s presence, and Regan’s Gamma and his mate had moved out to live in a small cabin of their own not to far away from the pack house after having their pup. Since our house had several more rooms, Gaia and Alpha Gaius were asked to move in since they were going to be in our pack longer than they had initially planned. Lena was thrilled with this development, but however pleased I was for her, I could not shake the suspicion that Regan had prepared it all to have me protected at all times.
