Adeline didn’t realize at first who the man standing before them was, but the way he looked at her coldly made her instinctively move closer to Enzo, seeking some form of protection. She shifted slightly, half-hiding behind him.

Enzo glanced down at her, amusement flashing briefly in his eyes. He turned back to his father, crossing his arms. "Do you need anything, Father? I have somewhere important I must be, so I have no time to spare."

Adeline blinked, her stomach dropping when she heard the word "father." Her heart skipped a beat as her fear deepened. If Enzo’s attitude was any indication of what his father was like, she could already sense that this man would be far worse. She tugged lightly on Enzo’s shirt, trying to remain hidden.
