Unspoken Truth

(Laura’s POV)

The forest around us was quiet, only the sound of rustling leaves and distant animals breaking the silence as we prepared to leave the area. I packed up my bag, shoving the last of my daggers into it when Troy, who had been unusually quiet for the past few minutes, finally spoke up.

"Laura," he started, his voice soft but curious. "Can I ask you something?"

I glanced up at him, raising an eyebrow. "You’re asking for permission now? That’s a first."

He chuckled lightly, but I could tell there was something serious behind his eyes. "I’ve been thinking," he continued, "about you... and about the way you smell."

I frowned, not entirely sure where he was going with this. "You’re getting real close to crossing a line, Troy."
