**A Fire in the Wilderness**

*(Laura's POV)*

I crouched near the small pile of sticks, striking the flint together to get a spark going. The fire flickered to life in moments, casting a soft, warm glow around the clearing. I skewered the fish I’d caught earlier and set them over the flames, my mind wandering as I waited for them to grill.

Troy sat on a nearby rock, his eyes flicking nervously between the flames and the distant treeline. I could tell he wasn’t comfortable, not that he ever was. But today, there was a particular edge to his discomfort.

“You know,” he began, his voice low, “this isn’t exactly the smartest thing to do.”

I raised an eyebrow, glancing up at him as I stoked the fire. “What do you mean?”

He motioned toward the flames. “We’re too close to the borders of three packs—Celestial, Dynamic, and Moon. You might be safe here, but I’m not. I’m a rogue, remember? To them, I’m nothing but a target.”
