Hector's pov

Hector's life has been nothing short of misery ever since the very day Hiraeth was banished. As each passing day went by, the situation of things for him and his pack worsened.

Hector's life became a shadow of itself as he was disappearing into the gloom. He resulted into drinking to stupor and clearly lost consciousness of who he really was as the leader of his pack.

Woe to the Halo clan hence their Alpha has no understanding of who he truly is anymore. It seemed like they just kept fading away.

Vera tries all she could to make Hector see her in a different light but Hector doesn't want to set his eyes on her. So she kept hovering around him, seeking the perfect time for her to strike.

Vera seeks help from Luna Emelda as she was at the brink of giving up because for the past two years she's been trying all to no avail.

Luna Emelda seemed to have endured enough. She kept mute all these while thinking Hector would wake up to the reality of his life and the condition of things with his clan. But every fiber of hope left in her had been washed away. And she desperately needs to find all means possible to bring Hector back to being the Alpha.

Luna Emelda utilizes Hector's state of misery to her advantage, as that seemed to be Vera's only chance to steal her way into his heart and his life.

Luna Emelda sent all the guards and maids away on that set day. Luna Emelda sent Vera disguised as a maid to Hector's room as he was dead drunk and had a one night stand with him.

Hector was burning with fury when he woke up to the realization of what had transpired that night because of how vulnerable he has become because he's no better than a drunk.

Vera was afraid and ran to Luna Emelda’s chamber. Luna Emelda went up to Hector's room with Vera hiding behind her.

“Hector why are you pushing everyone away? Why are you shutting yourself completely from the world? You are the Alpha of the Halo clan and you'd better act like it.”

“Is that why you connived with Vera and had her force herself on me?”

“ Hector, I was left with no choice. What mother would just sit back and watch her son fade away.”

“ And since when do you care, mother?”

“Hector you are my flesh and blood, why will I not care about you? And believe me whatever Vera and I did was for your good and that of the Halo clan regardless how shameless the method of our approach was. Just give it time, you'll see that this is for the best.”

Luna Emelda walked up to Hector and hugged him.

“Few weeks from now Vera will be pregnant with your child that will become the Alpha of the Halo clan after you. Hasn't that been your dream?”

“Mother, I always dreamt of raising my child that will walk in my shoes and take up from where I stopped but I wasn't just happy with how you and Vera went about it.”

“I'm sorry we had to stoop so low but Hector you left us with no choice. But you know there's a way for you to right our wrongs. And that is by getting married to Vera formally.”

“Mother, I need some time to think. All of this just came so suddenly.”

“Okay dear, you have all the time in the world. I know and I trust that you will make the best decision.”

“But just until you make your decision, Vera stays here by your side.” Luna Emelda left back to her chambers leaving Vera alone in Hector's room.

Vera started living with Hector and that one night stand led to another, and another till Vera can't keep count.

But no matter how hard she tries to make Hector fall madly in love with her, she just realized she isn't making any sort of progress whatsoever. His heart was not working. Hector is now in a state of apathy.

Vera is worried about Hector as he continues in his state of emotional detachment for months, months turns into a year.

She told Luna Emelda about Hector's current situation but Luna Emelda only told Vera to stop worrying about that and focus on giving Hector an heir as that would be the only way for him to come back to his true self.

*****

It's been three years since Hireath left and both Hector and the Halo clan's condition continues to deteriorate.

But things got to its highest peak a year after Hector and Vera started habiting together.

Things like death among members of the pack, famine and starvation, drought , strange sickness that has no cure and many other unfortunate happenings.

Luna Emelda, alarmed by the recent catastrophic outbreak, ran to Hector and pleaded with him to look for a solution before things got to a dead end.

Hector is the only one that can look for the solution to the Halo clan's present critical condition. He has tried all he can to try to put an end to the numerous catastrophes.

He has been consulting the pack’s seer Naradya non stop but she is also lost in utmost confusion as she doesn't seem to fathom the cause of the recent misfortunes neither can she proffer any solution.

“My Lord, it is high time we go seek a solution elsewhere. I've been trying all I could but it's no use. We can't just continue to watch our clan perish.”

“Naradya, where do you suggest we go in search of a solution?”

“My Lord, I hear this year the Lycan pack will be celebrating their Luna queen's anniversary. And it is said that she grants wishes of all who come to pay homage to her and offer her gifts from all over the world.”

“Can the Luna queen of the Lycan pack bring an end to all the calamities and catastrophes that has befallen the Halo pack?”

“My Lord, I'd advise you to make findings on what I just told you and if it's worth giving a trial. Let's not just fold our arms and watch the Halo clan go extinct. I know we've tried all we can but let's not relent but fight this to the very end.’

“You have spoken Naradya well as you should. I'll do my research and take it up from here.”

Naradya bows in reverence to Hector as she takes her leave.

Hector ponders over what Naradya told him, thinking of what his next line of action should be.
