Chapter 1

Lily's POV

“Lily, I've found my mate.”

Adriel, my husband of three years said to me. I froze, trying to process what he actually meant. It seemed like my heart stopped and I was going to fall the next minute.

The door was slightly ajar when I heard his footsteps approaching. I was prompted to look ahead of him. My jaw dropped.

“Carly?” I gasped, rubbing my eyes to check out if this is actually a dream. It's real! I moved a step forward. I grabbed the door handle, leaning my body against one of the sides.

“What's going on?” I asked next.

Today marked my third anniversary with Alpha Adriel. We've been married for three years here in the Blue Moon Pack. Our love was just a deep one even before we got married that everyone in the pack wanted to be like the Alpha and Luna. We were in the limelight, not only in the public light but we loved ourselves so much. I thought that years into our marriage, this happiness would continue but I was mistaken.

When I incurred seven miscarriages within a year, Adriel’s mood towards me changed. His smiles turned into frowns and he began to ignore me, he often traveled more claiming to meeting with his fellow Alphas on summits overseas. Same thing persisted till today with my last miscarriage being three months ago. I'd often hide my face in shame especially when matters of producing an heir come up in the pack meeting.

This is what Adriel wanted from me, the elders and even his parents. My deepest assurance at moments like this would be his promise.

“I'll never take another mate no matter how weak you are to bear my pup!” He would say in most of the quarrels we had. I knew he meant it, he loved me so much and that love wouldn't let him take another mate as he said no matter how harsh his treatment to me was.

Today, however, things changed. Something I never thought of.

I glared sternly at both of them. Adriel grabbed Carly’s hand tighter.

“She's my fated mate! I have been waiting for her for three years.”

I folded my arms and narrowed my eyes, then took a step closer to them. “Carly, how can he just see you as his mate when you just flew in to see me and attend our third anniversary?”

“Sis,” she muttered with a mocking smirk. “I guess it's the way it is!” She said and snuggled tighter into Adriel’s arms. I scoffed, clapping my hands in surprise.

“I still can't process what's going on?” I asked both of them. My stare was deeper on Adriel, I needed him to explain what was going on very well to my understanding.

Carly, my younger twin sister, was sponsored by me to study abroad and she left the year I got married, after serving as my chief bridesmaid. So far, she's the only one I loved and held close to heart after the death of my parents who were killed in an auto crash. Even though we're the same age, I happened to enter into the Alpha's family and as the Luna even though I'm yet to bear a pup for Adriel, I have eighty thousand dollars monthly allocation to me. With this, I sent her to one of the best universities in Germany.

She’s back after three years of a degree programme. She told me even before returning that the first person she would come to greet would be me, to show gratitude. My brain re bounced back to this promise, she's back but what's happening here seemed like the greatest betrayal of all time.

She's back to take my husband.

I still maintained the same posture with my eyes not blinking for once. My head leaned towards my mate, Adriel.

“I know you must be really surprised but Carly and I had discovered we were mates three years ago and that's after I got married to you. I didn't just want to hurt your feelings. I thought you were going to bear me a pup then I would have considered staying with you.” Adriel said and my heart snapped into two, my lips sprung wide open. I was here trying to manage the shock of him announcing my sister who just returned from overseas as his mate, only to hear this.

“So you mean you guys have been in an affair behind my back for these three good years you've been married to me?” I raised my hands to my head, sprawling around and letting out a cry of pain. Tears formed in my eyes and they were at the edge, almost streaming down. So all those frequent moments he's been traveling abroad in the name of Alphas’ Summit which I never even heard of was to go and meet my sister.

A servant walked up to my door where Adriel and Carly stood. He bowed to him, then he looked confused, glancing at me and my sister. I guessed to spot the real Luna before he finally bowed to me.

“I'm so sorry to interrupt my Alpha and my Luna but the party is set to commence in the next thirty minutes. Everything is set and all the guests invited have arrived. They are all expecting your presence.” He bowed.

“I came to remind you.”

At this point, I turned to look at Adriel again. His face was stiff and whenever he looked like this, he was going to make a really tough decision.

“Tell them that the main purpose of the party has been changed.”

I felt my knees crack. I grabbed my chest in a bit to sustain the last energy held within me while he said the next thing in his mind.

“I've met my mate and this would be my mate's introduction ceremony. Update everyone in the hall on the latest development.”

I sank to my knees, grabbing his legs. Adriel shifted back swiftly but I grabbed him tight. I didn't mind that I was doing this in the presence of a servant and my sister who was giving me dagger stares.

“Please don't do this to me, Adriel. Remember the promise you made at our wedding before the moon goddess, your parents, the pack elders and everyone that you would never leave me.” I sniffed, then continued.

“You've always promised me that even though I kept on having miscarriages and couldn't bear your pup, you wouldn't send me packing.” I pulled out a long, pleading gaze at him, hoping to receive a positive answer from him. My hands were still on his legs as I knelt before him. My heart thumped so hard that the sound could even be heard. My wolf was cracking and howling in pain. It isn't easy to have the man after your own heart declare another woman as his mate and the worst is that it's my sister who promised never to betray me or do anything that would make me cry.

I was being rejected without him saying it openly.

“I made all those promises because I didn't want to hurt you while waiting for Carly to come back to me. Now she's back, I don't think I need you any longer. The pack doesn't need a weak Luna like you.” He growled.

“Okay, how do you know that Carly here is strong and would be able to bear your pups?” Even though it seemed the whole situation was bleak and there was no hope, I couldn't let myself be defeated. I'll fight for my man. I have to fight to keep my mate from this treacherous sister who has the mind to get good from me and betray me in return.

“Because she has already proven herself.” He didn't even think of what to reply, which made me suspicious. I slowly rose from the ground.

“What do you–”

“I'm already late for my mate’s introduction ceremony.” He interrupted, turning over to Carly, he said. “Darling, let's go!”

It broke my heart to a million pieces seeing him call another woman a name that was meant for me alone. I couldn't control the tears any longer, I let it fall over my cheeks as he turned around to go. I remembered I wasn't yet done with him, maybe I could convince him not to do this to me, I held his hand but he yanked me off, I stumbled and nearly crashed against the wall if not for his servant grabbing me.

“I'm sorry, Luna.” He said and proceeded ahead of them. I sank to my bed like a log of wood when they left, my wolf slowly leaving my body out of pain. I fell into a trance and wasn't aware of my surroundings for the entire day. I sprang up in shock the moment I woke up and glanced at the clock on the wall to see that it's 5 PM.

“What the hell!” I screamed and rushed out of my room without even washing my face. I could trace Adriel’s presence to the garden from the little sense I could get from my wolf, the connection was no longer deep after he announced Carly as his mate.

I found him standing here alone.

“My Alpha,” I called out and he turned. I sank to my knees. “Please give me one last chance and have sex with me. If you kick me out now without giving me a last chance, you probably wouldn't know what I'm capable of. I'm not asking you to send my sister away, but just give me a chance.”
