Chapter 26 She’s a Sweet Child

Dorothy seemed interested in the idea. She said with a smile, “So, will we be marrying above ourselves?”

Jeffrey replied, “What do you mean, marrying above yourselves? You moved away from Phoenix. If you had been here all this time, we might have become in-laws by now. I should tell you that the public doesn’t think highly of my grandson. But those are just empty rumors. Don’t believe any of it. The poor boy had a tragic past. His parents died in a car accident when he was eighteen, and he’s been in a wheelchair ever since.”

He leaned in closer and whispered, “To tell the truth, his legs have been fine for a long time. I won’t say much, but if she marries him, nobody'll dare say anything about her.”

Dorothy’s eyes lit up. She looked at him and said, “Okay, I’ll meet your grandson one of these days. But first, let me show you a picture of Sophia. She’s beautiful.”

She reached into her pocket for a picture of Sophia.
