WENDY'S POV

As the door shut behind me, I immediately turned to Queen Rosina, tears streaming out of my eyes.

“You have to go after him! You have to tell him the truth! Tell him what really happened, please! I beg you!”

She only smirked. “Come off it, girl. You're not fooling anybody with your drama and antics. Everyone knows who you are now. You can't hide anymore.”

Desperate, I turned to Brittany. “Brittany, don't do this, please. You were there—”

“Nope,” my step-sister said, shaking her head. “Keep me out of your dramas, Wendy.”

“My drama?! Brittany, please. You have to tell the truth! Why are you doing this? Why?! What have I ever done to you?!”

“Done to me? Oh, please, shut up! Don't try and pretend as if you're a saint. Your time is up here.”

I clutched at the end of her skirt. “Brittany, stop this madness!”

“I have no idea what you're talking about! Let go of me!”

With that, she jerked herself free and left the room with the queen.

Rick sneered at me. “Aren't you a pathetic sight to behold? If you had just lie low, maybe you wouldn'thave gotten in the bad books of the queen. Anyways, enjoy your broken marriage.”

With that, he grabbed a pair of jeans and a shirt and left the room. I sank to the floor — disbelief, shock, and fear racing for dominance within me.

Was I really going to lose George?

Was I really going to let my marriage end like this?

No, I wouldn't. I couldn't. He was my everything and I would be ruined if I lost him.

I got up from the floor and headed out of the room. I heard voices downstairs and I went for the stairs, to the living room.

They were all there. George, Brittany and Queen Rosina, then I saw my suitcases by the side of the door.

“Wha - what are my bags doing there? Why did you bring my bags there? What's going on?”

Queen Rosina sneered. “What? Oh, so you think an ordinary whore like you gets to stay here? You think a cheap good-for-nothing prostitute like you gets to stay here and lead the pack with George?!” she smirked. “You must be delusional!”

I ignored her tirade and turned to the only person that mattered.

“George, I swear to you that I never went into that man's room to cheat on you. I have never slept with him or anyone else in my life! I was framed! It was the queen who sent me to drop off the package to him! I didn't know what was inside! I swear to you!”

He sneered at me coldly. “You will really say anything to get yourself out of this, won't you? Tell me. Did he fuck you good?”

I felt myself burn from the roots of my hair to the soles of my feet.

“George!” I said, appalled. “I'm telling you that I was set up!”

“Why don't you spare us the angelic act, Wendy?!” Brittany suddenly caught in. “This is really who you are! Stop pretending!”

“And what would the queen gain from setting you up, Wendy?”

I shook my head, tears glistening in my eyes. “I don't know. I swear I don't know. But you have to believe me!”

“Believe you? Believe a woman who threw away everything we've built together for years just for a few minutes of pleasure?”

“No, George, please—!”

“You can save your tears and your lies. It's over.”

“What? What do you mean? What—what do you mean it's over?!” I asked, my voice trembling.

For an answer, he threw a set of papers at my feet and I bent and took them with trembling fingers.

“Wh-what is it?” I asked, fear gripping me.

“Divorce papers,” replied George calmly as if he was talking about the weather as if the world wasn't spinning on its axis and falling apart around me.

My breath hitched and as I spoke, my voice sounded different to me; as if it wasn't mine.

“What do you mean divorce papers? How did you — When did you—?”

“I called my lawyer immediately I left that room,” he said then slammed the papers in front of me with a pen. “Sign them.”

“Yes,” echoed the Queen triumphantly, “Sign the papers pack your rags, and leave this house!”

But no, I wasn't about to give him up. I wasn't about to give up years of marriage with him because two people hated me.

George and I had come a long way for that to happen. No, I wouldn't let them win.

“I won't sign it. I won't. I haven't done anything wrong. I will not sign it.”

“You shameless good for nothing,” he growled, his face a mass of pure anger and fury. “I am giving you a chance to go freely, a chance to cover up your shame, and yet you still defy me?!”

“I'm not defying you, George! I have not done anything wrong!”

“So you won't sign it?! Do you think this is all a joke?! It's funny to you?!”

“What?! No! George —”

“Since you won't sign it, then I have no choice but to reject you. Perhaps you will see the severity of your situation,” he said, his voice calm and cold. The look in his eyes made me shiver in fear and I tried my best to ignore it. I wouldn't let fear win; I wouldn't let them win.

“You— you won't do that to me. You can't,” I stammered.

“Oh, won't I? Why not try me and see?”

I shook my head, not believing. This, this was not my husband. This was not the man that had captured my heart; this was not the man I had fallen irrevocably in love with. This was somebody else entirely.

“I, George, the Alpha of Shadow Fangs reject you Wendy Ashton  as my—”

Seeing how serious he was, I shouted, “I'm pregnant!”

WENDY’S POVHe stopped mid-sentence and the silence in the room seemed to swallow us both.“What did you just say?” He asked.I repeated the words, this time, a little bit firmer. “I'm pregnant with your child.”The silence stretched on for a minute more, before,“Lies!” erupted the Queen. “Don't believe her, George! This is another one of her lies to sway things in her favor! Don't listen to her! She's not pregnant!”“It's true, Alpha George,” said my devil of a half-sister. “She isn't pregnant. She's just trying to sway you. Please don't believe her.”“And even if you were pregnant,” added the queen. “We all know it couldn't possibly be for George, you whore.”Her words swung deep, but I gave my husband instead, gazing into his eyes for a glimpse of the man I once knew.I whispered again, gently and with tears this time, “I'm carrying your child, George. I'm pregnant. For you.”For a minute, it seemed it was just George and I in the room, until Queen Rosina broke the silence. “Don

WENDY POV“No...” I whispered, my throat tight, my voice shaking. “No... this can’t be happening,” I shook my head. “This can't be happening. You can't say that,” I said, my voice a calm desperation. “You need to give me my baby. Now!”The nurse shook her head still. “I'm sorry, ma'am.”No. She was lying. I had felt the kicks, the life inside me. How could it just be gone?“No! I don't believe you! Give me my baby!”I tried to sit up, but something pulled me back— the IV drip. I grab at it, yanking, trying to free myself. “Let me go! I need to see my baby!” The words come out in a scream, my hands fumbling desperately. I have to get out of here. I have to hold my baby. They’re wrong. They’re all wrong.“Please calm down,” the nurse rushes towards me, pressing an unseen button that sends other nurses rushing in. Together, they held me down.“Look at me! Look at me! You need to calm down!”“I can’t calm down! I need my baby!” I dissolved into a puddle of tears. “I just want my baby.

WENDY'S POV“Umm,” the lawyer began before pausing to clear his throat. He then continued, “Ma'am, I suggest you just sign these papers and let's get this over with. It won't take you more than a minute.”My voice was firm and strong, so unwilling and unyielding that it felt like someone else was speaking through me. “And I said I do not want to sign these papers. Go back to your Alpha and tell him that. If he has any other thing to say or do, let him come to me directly. Until then, don't approach me again.”He tried one more time. “Please, try to see reason here. Just sign it.”I didn't back down, didn't flinch as I said, “Leave. Now.”The lawyer sighed and gathered the papers together back into his briefcase. “I see you still need sometime to yourself after the traumatic event that has happened. It's understandable. You're not fully in your right state of mind. I'll come back another time.”Bastard, I seethed angrily, I would kill him the next time he sets his foot in this room.As

BRITTANY'S POVI popped the champagne cork, and Queen Rosina let out a delighted squeal. We were alone in the palace, freely sharing our joy and happiness with what had happened. We had achieved what we set out to do – get rid of Wendy.“To us,” Queen Rosina said, raising her glass. “To our perfect plan,”I clinked my glass against hers, taking a sip of the bubbly liquid. It was sweet, just like our victory.“Finally,” I murmured. Queen Rosina’s lips curled into a satisfied smirk. “That Wendy bitch is out of the way, as she should’ve been from the start.” Wendy. The name alone was enough to send a ripple of resentment through me. For years, I had stood by, forced to watch her take everything that should have been mine. And for what? Because George had some stupid attachment to his childhood sweetheart? It was pathetic. “She never belonged here,” I said, my voice sharp and bitter. “The pack didn’t want her, the council didn’t respect her, and George…” I paused, swallowing the b

George’s PovI sat at my desk, staring at the divorce papers in front of me with barely contained anger. The lawyer I had sent to Wendy with the papers had brought them back earlier, saying she refused to sign them. That act of defiance from her pissed me off more than anything. I wanted to move on. I wanted the closure these divorce papers would bring and how dare she deny me that? She was the one who had thrown what we had away to the dogs, so she had no right to deny me my wish. The lawyer said she had been on the verge of signing it before she abruptly changed her mind. Why? What had made her change her mind? Then I thought about the alimony I had offered her. Was it too small? Was that why she was being so stubborn? Because she wanted more?I gritted my teeth in anger. What this meant was that she had only been with me for the money. She had only been acting like a loving wife because of the money she could get from me. There was never any love for me on her part. Chapter 8George’s POV“I have to save her!” I screamed as I renewed my efforts to get to the car. “I have to save my wife!”I threw off my Beta running towards the car. Despite the yelling and screaming coming from the passerby, I paid them deaf ears. I couldn't let her die,she can’t die because it will be on my conscience. She betrayed me and maybe I do hate her, but that doesn't mean she gets to leave me in this world. Tears were already streaming down my face. Few meters away from the car, that’s when I heard a yell. “The car’s fuel is leaking, you can't go near it because it would blow.” I didn't stop, I have to save my woman. I took another step and the car exploded, the explosion throwing me back. I hit my back on the floor hard and I swear I could hear a bone crack. Tears streamed down my face, blurring my vision. I could see the fire department trying to put out the fire, people gathering around me, whispering in hushed voices. “No!” I whispered. Somewhere in my memory,

While being prepped, I took out the hair bun from my pockets and slipping it on my wrist.I stared at the ribbon, memories of each time i helped her fix it on her hair. I smiled on remembering one of our moments togetherFLASHBACKI had just returned from a pack meeting, I wasn't the Alpha then. The elders were still testing me to see if I was fit for the role. I came back and tired and I didn't meet her at the door step as usual. I got worried and ran upstairs to our room to look for her, only to hear her grumbling at something.I knocked gently on the door"What!" She answered, sounding frustrated. I smiled, if she knew I was the one, she would freak and apologize which I hated by the way. We were mated to each other, I didn't want her apologizing on every chance she got.I entered and she gasped in shock."I didn't know you were the one."

Chapter 10Wendy's POVI watched as the fire burnt through the car I was supposed to be in. Creating a perfect and believable death wasn't an easy thing to do, but I did."That's done," Whitney whispered in my ears and I stared up at the sky. The last few days have been an eye-opener and I don't think my heart will ever heal from the heartaches and pains I went through."Where to now?" I asked."They will still be on the lookout to see if you survived, so lay low a bit," Whitney replied and I nodded. I was about to turn to leave when I heard a scream. I stopped in my tracks."Don't turn back." Whitney's warning voice resounded in my ears. I shut my eyes, wanting to obey her, I just couldn't when I heard the scream again. It sounded so familiar, so I turned just in time to see George running into the car crash."I said not to turn, Wendy," Whitney said, sounding pissed."What is he doing?" Chapter 161Wendy’s POVThe room felt colder after Ryan left the room. His words echoed in my head, tightening my chest until it hurt badly."Because Edward always wins."George stood still, his fists clenched beside him, his face was pale, tight with a quiet, almost dangerous rage.My hand touched his arm. “George?”His jaw is tight. “I should’ve known.”“You couldn’t have.”He shook his head. “Ryan’s been in this from the start. He’s been feeding Edward information this whole time.” His lips curled darkly. “And we trusted him.”I swallowed hard. “What do you think is going to happen?”George’s gaze was immediately darkened. “I will find Gerald before he makes his next move.”The door swung open. A guard stood at attention, breathless. “Sir—”“What?” George’s voice was sharp.“They got him.”My breath caught. “Gerald?”The guard nodded. “We just received word. He was tracked to a private airstrip. Our team tracked him before he could leave the country. He’s back in custody.”Relief

It left a weird kind of feeling in the deep part of my stomach.Wendy was in the kitchen, checking the fridge for what she could make. “Do you want eggs or pancakes?” she called.“Both.”She rolled her eyes, smiling. “Greedy.”I stretched out on the soft couch, my arms behind my head. “You love it.”Her lips curved. “Yeah. I guess I do.”My phone buzzed on the table. I ignored it. But it buzzed again. And again.Wendy shot me a look. “You gonna get that?”“Nope.”But it wouldn’t stop. Sighing, I grabbed it. Unknown number. Weird. I almost let it go to voicemail, but something made me answer.“Yeah?”“George.” A voice I hadn’t heard in years. Cold. Amused. Her hair was a mess, it was all over the pillow and my shoulder. I could feel her breath, it was soft and even, against my skin. Real hope. She didn’t say yes completely. But she didn’t say no too. That was enough for me.Her words kept coming back to me as I stepped into the night air. What if I really leave everything behind?I grinned, from ear to ear, shaking my head. I will wait. As long as there’s one small chance, I will wait.I entered my car and started driving. I pressed a hand to my mouth as a wave of nausea climbed up my throat."Excuse me—" My voice broke as I turned away from him, practically running toward the bathroom in the conference room.I almost didn't make it to the sink when I was vomiting. My hands gripped the cold sink as my stomach was poured out , my body trembling.Behind me, I heard the door open. "Wendy?" George's voice was sharp with alarm.
