ASHER’s POV.
THREE YEARS AGO. Growing up in Raven’s Peak has been nothing but torture to me, everywhere I go I hear snickers and gossips in the air, the Moon Clan has heard the stories about my father and his affection for humans—and it is believed that I am a seed of such affection hence the delay in my ability to transform into a wolf. I have been the subject of curiosity and fascination among the Pack. Kids were warned against associating themselves with me, daughters told not to fall in love with me, it is believed I bring nothing but bad luck to the clan. I am viewed as a disease among the bloodline. My only source of strength is the love and support my father, Thane Nightshade and my best friend, Ethan Moore showed to me on a daily basis. My father has been the Alpha for as long as I can remember, everything started to go downhill the day he decided to have an affair with a human, plots were made to remove him from his position, banish him from the clan but my father still had the support of some few elders who believed in his vision—but that is about to change today! “Everyone’s waiting for you, Asher” Ethan says, as he gently opens the door to my room behind me. “I’ll be out in a minute” I respond , taking a deep breath. I am still sprawled on the bed, unable to gather the strength to even stand up. “You need to get up man” Ethan cajoles, “the sooner you get there, the sooner everything will be fine” “I am already dressed up,” I tell him. “Fine, I will help with the tie” He walks over to the bed and pulls me up, “What do you think the verdict will be” Ethan asks, as he helps me with my tie. “I don’t know, and honestly? Whatever it is, I believe it will be for a good cause” I answer, trying to remain as calm as possible. “Whatever happens Asher, just know we are in this together” Ethan says with a reassuring smile on his face. I nod in agreement and we made our way into the Moon Room where a small crowd was seated facing the Alpha's chair. “Let us begin,” one of the elders of the pack says. From the look on his face, he clearly doesn’t like me and I do not like him either. “I know you all are wondering why I’m taking the Alpha seat today, I’ll be in charge of the proceedings today because the fate of whom we are to decide is the son of the alpha, to ensure a fair and unbiased verdict, I Akira will pass the judgement” I feel a sense of fear and uncertainty about having someone pass judgement on my life who isn’t family. I looked over to my father and he looked at me back with concern in his eyes but he tried to hide it from me, just so he could make me feel better about the whole situation. There was a brief silence hovering around almost as if the elders were all in agreement. My father walked up to me and we both went to the center of the room. “You may proceed, Akira,” my father says. “We are gathered here today to ascertain the consequences of a father's sins that have had a significant impact on the son's life. Thane Nightshade you have been accused of treachery against your clan and species, you’ve been accused of taking a human to bed and bearing a human child amongst us. How do you plead?” “I stand in front of you today not as a perfect person, alpha and certainly not as a perfect father” my father starts to speak, his voice cracking. Anger surges through me, how can his voice crack? He is the most ruthless alpha I have known and ever heard about so how can a group of people make him crack? I clench my jaw together but I don’t say anything. “I am guilty of a lot of things, but I am most definitely not a traitor to my kind. Everything I’ve done has been for the survival of our species. I’ve fought, bled, killed and gave up my whole existence for this clan. But is this the best way you can appreciate me? By making me take a stand with my son on the exact spot where criminals and rogue wolves are sentenced to death or sent into exile. Judge me all you can, but please keep my son out of this” “You're not on trial for your service and leadership in ensuring the survival of our species. You've been accused of bedding a human and bearing a seed who lived amongst us for years. You've broken our sacred law. And that demands that you relinquish your position or you banish the half human” Lucas Darkfire yells out “You would like that, wouldn't you? You've always had an eye for my position” my father fires back. “Enough! Both of you” Akira yells out, “ The atmosphere is already hostile, don't make it worse. We are here to find solutions not to cause more harm. Thane, I'll ask you one more time. What do you have to say about the accusations you've been faced with?” Akira asked with conviction. “Before I start, I would like to make it clear to everyone in the Moon Room about how absurd it is to punish my son for something he didn't ask to be a part of. And I wish to remind you all why you chose me to lead the Pack. I have been the best warrior this Pack has seen in centuries, I have won countless battles for the survival of our species, like I said I have bled, I have taken lives….. I gave up..” “Dad” I immediately cut him off, my gaze darkening with each passing moment, “you do not need to explain anything to any one of them” my voice is laced with sarcasm and mockery, my eye devoid of any kind of emotions, “what do you expect from the same people who eye your position and want it for themselves?” “Asher!!!” Akira bellows, “do not forget yourself and remember you are under trial” I scoff, my eyes traveling around the room. “You are all scared that one day I will become your worst nightmare and that’s why you want to sentence me right?” “Asher” Ethan calls out but I ignore him. “Aside my father and I, none of you are worthy to take his place because you will be wiped out before you can even say your name” Did they think I would come unprepared? That I will let weak omegas and betas like them make a decision on my life? “You don’t have to do this now, Asher” father whispers into my ear but I smirk.. hard. I start taking slow steps towards Akira and as soon as I come to a halt in front of him, I roll up my sleeves, showing him the mark on my forearms. Everyone’s face opens wide, none of them expected this. Even father and Ethan. Actually this appeared last night and I know what It means, everyone knows what it means. “How… ? Akira’s words hang in his mouth. “After my father, I am the next alpha of this pack. Do you still dare to convict me for a sin I know nothing about?” Everyone looks surprised and I am glad, this was my plan to take all of them by surprise and show them that even though I am half human, I am more than any of them joined together. “Why didn’t you tell anyone?” Fathers asks. “Kill him!!!” Lucas Darkfire yells out but before he can make a move, I grab him by the neck and fling him across the wall, my claws leaving marks on his body. ****** A knock on the door jolts me out of my thoughts and I look up to see Manny, My right hand man and beta. “Alpha” he bows lightly, “the pack healer is here to see you” “I will be with her in a jiffy” “Okay” he bows again and makes his way out of the room while my mind drifts off to what happened three years ago. Due to that fight, I lost my best friend and my father that day and I made sure that every single one of them who had gathered together to convict me, suffered my wrath. I took over the pack three years ago and the only thing I have heard people call me in secret is the devil. Standing up, I pick up my phone and walk out of the study towards the living room. This is no time for sentiments, I need to work hard to break the curse that the moon goddess had laid on me due to the massacre three years ago.EMBER’s POv.“Ughhh!!” A slight groan leaves my mouth as I alight from the cab. A three hour journey from New York to this place is really tiring, I can’t even lie. A few days ago, I stumbled upon an interview done by one of America’s leading journalists and she mentioned this town. All my life, I never knew this existed because standing here, I can’t help but be in awe of what I am seeing. It is not that secluded from New York but it looks like a whole different world all together. Beautiful infrastructures and buildings. I also heard that the people of the town are friendly and welcoming. When I heard about them from the interview, my artistic mind kicked in and I rushed to get permission from the higher ups to come and check it out. Believe me, I am already loving it.“This is the last of your luggage ma’am” the cab driver says and I nod, flashing him a smile.“Thank you so much sir” I tell him.“You have my card, let me know anytime you need to take a tour around the city and I w
EMBER’s POV. After leaving Enid and the other people she introduced me to, i decide to grab a coffee before heading home. It is already a bit late and the roads have become a little empty like everyone is rushing to go somewhere. Far in the sky, i see the full moon journeying to the center of the sky. I have always been fascinated by the full moon because on such days, it feels like there is a kind of power that surges through my veins on days like this but I laugh it off. It’s not like I believe in zodiac signs or some sort of universal entity so it’s just me wanting to think wild. The night is a bit chilly so I try to hurry to the house but I stop short when I start hearing howling sounds from afar. Is there something going on that I am not aware of? I look around and there are only a few people left on the streets and they don't look like they are bothered by the sound. Either they don’t care or they can’t hear it. Mustering courage, I walk over to an old lady who is closing her
ASHER’s POV. Black long hair cascading down her back, eyes that looked like the ocean had come to me, slim yet I could see her curves from the pair of shorts and shirt she wore. Her lips are full and sultry, she was a beauty to behold. This is the perfect description of the woman seated beside me as I drive to her house. When Enid called and told me earlier about a human in Raven’s peak, I told her to send me her address. Yes, we have a lot of humans in Raven’s peak but all of them were aware of the rules and didn’t act out of the ordinary but I am sure this journalist wouldn’t do that. I had a background check done on her and I found out who she was and why she had come here. It’s not my duty to keep her safe but something inside of me wanted to and that’s why I decided to come for her myself to keep her safe.. I have come across daring young ladies and none of them ended well. You could say raven’s peak is particular about who we let in. Three years ago, I set some form of new ru
AMBER’S POV“What a day!” I say to myself as I make my way out of the shower in my bathrobe to the wardrobe, I browse through my clothes in search of my nightie, I want to be as comfortable as I can be. I need all the rest I can get. I finally found the perfect silky nightwear to drape on for the night. “Ugh!” A slight groan escaped my mouth as I finally laid in my bed for the first time in hours.Laying in bed reminiscing about how hectic of a day today was, the beautiful scenery of this town, no matter how hard I try, I can’t just seem to get the thoughts of how many beautiful pictures I’ve taken since I arrived in Raven’s Peak. The townspeople are very strange but yet welcoming and warm.. there’s beauty in the strangeness I guess. What’s with the talk of how dangerous it is to walk at night and staying indoors all night on this particular night. Something is definitely off and I can’t seem to place my fingers on it. “Asher Nightshade! Good strong name” my attention got shifted to
AMBER’S POV.Flickering my eyes rapidly as the bright light of early morning shines directly at my face. I can’t believe I let myself sleep all night in this terribly dusty and unkept basement. That’s the power of shock mixed with awe I reckon. What in the actual fuck happened last night? The Newspapers absolutely did not make mention of any wolves related stories in Raven’s Peak, did I miss that bit? Was I overwhelmed by the beauty of this town to not pick the tiny details mentioning the existence of wolves in it? I can’t even imagine all the horror stories told to us as kids concerning the existence of werewolves were true. I allowed my mind to wander around asking myself these questions while I lay still on the floor. There’s only one prominent question lingering in the back of my mind and refuses to leave “Did i make a mistake coming down here?”*Ringing* My phone jolts me outta the trance I’m in. I start digging through the boxes laying beside me because I can’t really remembe
ASHER’S POVThe moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie silver glow over the Moon Room. The air was alive with the scent of damp earth and decayed dead bodies. It was like every usual night in the small town of Raven’s Peak. But for me, this is a night of reckoning. I’ve been waiting for this moment for weeks now.I stood right in the center of the Moon Room, in the exact same spot I stood during my trial day three years ago. It still feels like yesterday, the shock on their faces when I revealed my alpha mark, the screams of the victims as I choked the life out of them.Ethan and my Father! I still get nightmares of that night, little disturbing fragments of how they died fighting by my side. I took a deep breath, the cool night air filling my lungs. Tonight, I will face my monsters. Tonight I would put an end to the ever-occurring nightmares that grips me every night for the last three years.“You stand just like him” I heard a hoarse and eerie voice behind me, and a figure comin
ASHER’S POVI took one last glance at my wrist watch and curse at the fact that Amber has not returned any of my calls yet. I don’t know why I keep finding myself calling her even after I said I wouldn’t. Something is definitely wrong with me, in as much as this is a strange feeling. I kind of like how it feels. I’m Alpha and I usually get whatever I wanted. But she sure as hell don’t care about none of that. I picked up my phone from the office table and called Raul, if she doesn’t wanna talk to me, fine. I’ll still want to know if she’s okay regardless.“Hello Alpha” Raul says on the other side of the phone.“How’s it going?” I ask“Calm as a dove, she hasn’t left the condo yet, the only movement was when she came out to pickup a delivery…pizza”“Great, keep a safe distance, we don’t want to spook her into thinking you’re stalking her and create another suspicious activity” I added“Yes Alpha” Raul says.As soon as I dropped the call I heard a knock on my office door.“Your 2 o’clo
ASHER’S POV The sun stared back at me as I looked up at it, as if it had some of the answers to my questions. I stood here at the entrance of the cabin for minutes examining and scanning the crime scene before me. On the ground, the omega, Manny, lays motionless, his bulgy eyes frozen in a permanent stare. My heart sank as I continued to take in the sight of Manny’s lifeless body. “Who could have done this?” I growl, my voice barely above a whisper. “We need to investigate” Kyrie says, emerging from the shadows and halting close to the dead body “This was no accident” he added. My gaze fell upon the puncture wounds on the neck of Manny, and my mind started racing with the implications that this was a murder and the killer is still out there. This struck close to home and Amber’s cabin is just a few blocks away. I was relieved abit to see it was not her body I’m staring down at. I don’t know what I would have done. I drove out here with some Pack members; Augustus the Pack’s heal
JULIAN’S POVThe room smelled like sage, iron, and old smoke—Vivianne’s idea of comfort. She always said it cleared the air. I figured it just masked the scent of rot that clung to this place like a second skin.Aiden stood near the window, staring out at the woods. He hadn’t said a word since we came in, but that was typical. He only spoke when he wanted to be heard. Otherwise, silence did the trick. Vivianne was seated across from me, her long fingers tracing the rim of her tea cup. The fire in the hearth cracked behind her, casting flickering shadows across her face. For a moment, she looked soft. Almost human. But I knew better.“So,” she said finally, voice low and even, “we’ve confirmed the soil?”I nodded once. “Magnetite. Straight from the northern ridge of Raven’s Peak. The scouts made sure of it. They’ll be scrambling now, trying to plug the leak.”“Good,” she said, smiling faintly. “Let them chase ghosts while we sharpen our blades.”Aiden turned then, arms crossed. “Still
EMBER’S POVThe dirt was cool between my fingers, a little damp from last night’s rain. I pressed into it, trying to focus on the way the earth felt, the smell of rosemary and damp leaves. The sun hadn’t fully risen yet, just a soft glow creeping through the trees. Usually, mornings like this made me feel calm. Safe. But not today.I tugged at a weed near the basil, too hard, and the stem snapped in my hand.“Careful,” a voice behind me said. Warm. Familiar. *His*. “You’re going to make the poor plant cry.”I didn’t turn around. “You should be at the office, Asher.” I said.“I know, Kitten,” he said.I stood up slowly, brushing my hands off on my apron. I didn’t want to look at him, but I did anyway. He looked the same—tired, like he hadn’t slept, like maybe he’d been up thinking about me the way I’d been thinking about him. His hair was a mess. I hated how much I liked that.“I can’t keep doing this,” I said quietly. “It doesn’t feel right.”Asher tilted his head. “What doesn’t?”“
VIVIANNE ST. CLAIR’S POVThe room was quiet. Still. The kind of quiet that feels heavy, like it’s holding its breath. The fire in the corner had burned low, more shadows than light now, and the wind outside was brushing against the windows like it was looking for a way in.I sat on the edge of the bed, one hand curled around a mug of tea that had gone cold an hour ago. The other rested on the empty space beside me.His side.I hadn’t touched it in years.Lucas. God, his name still did something to me. Still made my chest tighten like it did the first time I realized I loved him — really loved him. Not the easy kind. The kind that changes how you breathe. We met too young. Or maybe just early enough. He was wild, cocky, always smelled like smoke and something sharp, like the woods before a storm. I thought I hated him at first. He always had something to say, always knew what I was thinking before I did.But he saw me.Not just the pretty parts. Not the version of me I built for ever
JULIAN ST. CLAIR’S POV*Low lighting. Shadows cling to the bookshelves, stretching like secrets. Rain whispers against the tall windows. The storm outside is gentle — almost tender. I sunk my bottocks in my chair, alone at my desk, a half-empty glass of whiskey in my hand. A bottle of something old and expensive rests beside me.**A single candle flickers near my elbow, casting gold across my face. The fire crackles softly in the hearth behind me. My eyes are distant, fixed on the space just beyond the rim of my glass. Then — a knock at the door. Not loud. Not urgent. Just enough to break the silence.***AIDEN** (off-screen) You heard?**JULIAN** (coldly) I have ears, don’t I?*The door creaks open and Aiden leans against the frame. His expression is unreadable, but his presence lingers like smoke. I did not turn to look at him.***AIDEN** It’s real. Ava’s dead.*A beat. I lift my glass slightly, eyes still fixed on the candlelight.***JULIAN** *Suicide*, they’re saying.
EMBER WELLESLEY’S POVThe room is dim. A few candles flicker near the windowsill. Rain lashes gently against the glass. I sat on the floor, knees pulled to my chest, clutching a sweater that used to belong to Ava. My eyes are red, my face pale. A storm rages silently inside me, muted only by exhaustion.Asher stands in the doorway, hesitant. He watches me for a moment before stepping inside, shutting the door softly behind him. He crosses the room and lowers himself next to me.“You’ve been in here for hours.” Asher said, quietly.I do not respond. My fingers tighten around the sweater. When I speak, my voice is brittle, like glass on the edge of shattering.“We had her right there in front of us last night, and I didn’t even ask if she was okay. I didn’t even—God, I didn’t *see* it.” I responded.“None of us did.” Asher said softly.“But I should have. I *knew* her. I knew how she hid things. And I just… let her say she was fine. Like always.” I protested.Silence. Asher reaches out,
ASHER NIGHTSHADE’S POV.The silence hovering in the air in my Maybach was the only company we shared driving back from the meeting with Ava. Ember hasn’t uttered a wide the entire drive back to the big house and I worry for her. I hope this was the closure she needs to be able to finally move on — or we might have opened an even bigger wound. I hope the latter is the case. And who the hell is Julian?“I can’t believe Ava is truly gone” Ember finally finds her voice. “I could swear there’s not much Ava left in whoever came to the meeting—that wasn’t my sister!” She added.I take a long and deep breath, resting my back on the car seat.“I’m sorry about everything, but I think she’s made her choice. It’s time for you to respect it and find a way to be able to live with it” I said.“That was the initial plan, I’m just glad I got to try again, else I wouldn’t be able to live with myself” she utters.“That’s right, you did all you could and that’s enough, Kitten” “Thank you for giving me t
ENID’S POVThe small space is dimly lit — just the warm amber from a single lamp and the city glow leaking through half-shut blinds. A tea mug sits on the edge of the table, long forgotten. Enid paces, barefoot, her hair pulled back in a hasty knot. There’s a knock.I hesitated, heart thudding. Then the door creaks open.LARK steps in, not waiting for an invite. He shuts the door behind him with a soft click. He doesn’t smile — not really. Just studies me like he already knows what I’m thinking.“You’re going to tell Asher, aren’t you?” He asked.“You shouldn’t be here.” I said.“Didn’t ask if I should be. I’m here because I know you better than anyone, Enid. And you’ve got that look again.” He said back.“What look?” I asked.“Like you’re about to set your own house on fire just to feel clean.” He responded.I looked away, jaw tightening. Silence stretches between us.“I’m not here to argue. Just… don’t make this harder than it already is.” He added.“He deserves the truth.” I said,
EMBER WELLESLEY’S POVIt’s late. The kind of late where everything is too quiet and the air feels too heavy. I shouldn’t have come to Asher like this—hair unbrushed, eyes red, jacket pulled on inside out. But I didn’t care. I just needed someone who still had a thread to me.I sat on the steps and stared at the pavement like it might rearrange itself into something that made sense. “Can you find her?” I asked.Asher leaned against the railing, arms crossed. His silence was thick, but I knew he was listening.“Ava,” I said, voice catching on her name. “Can you use your connect, or whatever it is you still have, and bring her back to me? Even just for five minutes.” I added. He didn’t respond right away. Just shifted, like my words made him uncomfortable.“She won’t answer me. Not even to say she hates me.” I laughed quietly, humorless. “Though she made that pretty clear the last time we talked.” I said, voice barely above a whisper.Asher’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t interrupt.“She
DARIUS LARK’S POV.I stood at the window, the city lights twinkling like stars below, but my mind was a thousand miles away. My head echoed with the dwindling voice of Enid as she revealed her discovery to me last night."Enid has found a sample that connects the St. Clairs to the murder of Manny and the animals." My fingers tightened around the glass, the scotch suddenly tasting bitter, as I hit ‘send’ on my phone. I texted Julian to let him know about the discovery.Panic began to creep in, my heart racing with every possible scenario. Enid was getting too close, and I couldn't let her expose our involvement. I thought about all the times I'd been careful, all the precautions I'd taken to keep our secrets safe. But now, it seemed, Enid had stumbled upon something that could ruin everything.I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead as I thought about the consequences. The St. Clairs, the company, my reputation – it all had to be protected. I thought about the next move, the steps
