ASHER’s POV.
Black long hair cascading down her back, eyes that looked like the ocean had come to me, slim yet I could see her curves from the pair of shorts and shirt she wore. Her lips are full and sultry, she was a beauty to behold. This is the perfect description of the woman seated beside me as I drive to her house. When Enid called and told me earlier about a human in Raven’s peak, I told her to send me her address. Yes, we have a lot of humans in Raven’s peak but all of them were aware of the rules and didn’t act out of the ordinary but I am sure this journalist wouldn’t do that. I had a background check done on her and I found out who she was and why she had come here. It’s not my duty to keep her safe but something inside of me wanted to and that’s why I decided to come for her myself to keep her safe.. I have come across daring young ladies and none of them ended well. You could say raven’s peak is particular about who we let in. Three years ago, I set some form of new rules and everyone has been following it until now. I will hate to kill this beautiful lady beside me if she chooses to flaunt my orders. Seated beside me, I can’t help but feel a sense of familiarity towards her but I am sure I have never seen her before. She is just a weak human who has come to check out the town but that didn’t stop the feeling though. It definitely isn’t love at first sight because I can have any woman I so wish.. “So tell me” her words cut into my mind, “who made you king of the town? Enid told me” “You do not want to know” I answer nonchalantly, “now shush” “Why do you keep speaking to me like you know me though?” She is a stubborn type, the type who wouldn’t listen to instructions. “Because I could kill you right now and no one will ever find your body” This is meant to put a kind of fear into her but instead a slight frown appears on her forehead. “Do you go about threatening everyone like this, Mr Asher?” I don’t bother answering her as I pull up in front of her gate. Looking back at the watch on my wrist, I let out a sigh. I have less than twenty minutes to get her to safety or risk sniffing the life out of her which clearly wouldn’t be my fault but the moon goddess for what she did to me. People call her omniscient and worship her but I hate her even though she owns my life. I have seen a few humans who say they hate their God too, who say he lets them suffer without gaining happiness in the world and believe me the feeling is mutual. I chose to follow the ways of my father and take the moon goddess as my maker, if I had known i would have followed mum to church every Sunday and maybe I wouldn’t be in this endless cycle of pain and suffering for the sin I committed three years ago. People see me and marvel at the fact that a halfling like me could wield the amount of power that I do. None of them believed I could until I showed them that the wolf in me was sleeping and not weak. In the history of Raven’s peak, I am the strongest alpha to have ever emerged despite having the blood of my human mother running through my veins. “You seem to think a lot” her voice cut into my reverie again. “You are home now” I tell her, “go in and make sure to lock your door” “What are you? My dad?” Ember rolls her eyes, “I can choose to leave my door open if I so wish or are you like a pervert?” I grip the steering wheel tighter, why the heck is she this way? I only met her a few minutes ago and it’s like I have known her all my life.. a pain in my ass. Maybe I should have let her there to be devoured by any of the werewolves who wouldn’t be able to hold themselves. I can’t help but scoff at this thought of mine, she isn’t safe with me either. In a few minutes, the curse is going to take over and I am going…..no, I shouldn’t even think of that. “Tell me” Ember leans forward, “are you interested in me?” “Hell, no” I roll my eyes, “now get down” “Well, thank you for bringing me home Mr Asher. Let me buy you coffee some time to show my appreciation” “I leave for L.A tomorrow. Get ready, I will take a detour and bring you home. I do not want you in raven’s peak” A slight frown creeps up on her face, she clearly doesn’t like the sound of that. “I didn’t come to want to leave the next day, sir” “Believe me, this is not the place for you to be” “I can take care of myself” she is no longer smiling like she was earlier, “I came here for work and I won’t let anything dispute that fact. This could finally be the big break I have been waiting for all my life and you are just telling me to leave? Who do you think you are to tell me to leave? You are the supposed king of this town but that doesn’t mean you can tell people to leave just because you feel uncomfortable with it. I got the right permission before I came here, if you want me to leave you can approach the people who sent me here” Okay, she is a feisty little woman but I do not have the time to banter words with her..I can already feel my wolf begging to be released from inside of me, I can already feel the power surging through my body. “I can get the higher ups to tell you to leave if I so wish, Ember” I tell her, “but I have to leave now. You can choose to leave your door open or close, it’s your business. I have some place I have to be” Rolling her eyes, she opens the car and steps out before popping her head through the window. “I always thought you were a respectable man ever since I heard about you but well, you are no more than those jerks” Hissing loudly, she turns around and storms off into her gate. What? A jerk? I am trying to keep her safe and I am the jerk? Closing my eyes, I massage the space between my brows lightly. I should hold Enid responsible for even telling me about her, that beta of mine needs a serious warning from my end. The watch on my wrist starts to beep and I immediately jerk the car back to life. I will deal with her later but for now, I need to get the fuck out of here. My phone starts to ring instantly and seeing the name that pops up, I click on the receive button. “Alpha” Manny’s voice filters through, “I have prepared everything you asked” “Good, I am on my way” “Okay alpha” “Send some human guards to keep the journalist safe, no harm should come to her before the break of dawn” “Yes” I end my call while a sigh leaves my lips…who the hell is Ember Wellesley?AMBER’S POV“What a day!” I say to myself as I make my way out of the shower in my bathrobe to the wardrobe, I browse through my clothes in search of my nightie, I want to be as comfortable as I can be. I need all the rest I can get. I finally found the perfect silky nightwear to drape on for the night. “Ugh!” A slight groan escaped my mouth as I finally laid in my bed for the first time in hours.Laying in bed reminiscing about how hectic of a day today was, the beautiful scenery of this town, no matter how hard I try, I can’t just seem to get the thoughts of how many beautiful pictures I’ve taken since I arrived in Raven’s Peak. The townspeople are very strange but yet welcoming and warm.. there’s beauty in the strangeness I guess. What’s with the talk of how dangerous it is to walk at night and staying indoors all night on this particular night. Something is definitely off and I can’t seem to place my fingers on it. “Asher Nightshade! Good strong name” my attention got shifted to
AMBER’S POV.Flickering my eyes rapidly as the bright light of early morning shines directly at my face. I can’t believe I let myself sleep all night in this terribly dusty and unkept basement. That’s the power of shock mixed with awe I reckon. What in the actual fuck happened last night? The Newspapers absolutely did not make mention of any wolves related stories in Raven’s Peak, did I miss that bit? Was I overwhelmed by the beauty of this town to not pick the tiny details mentioning the existence of wolves in it? I can’t even imagine all the horror stories told to us as kids concerning the existence of werewolves were true. I allowed my mind to wander around asking myself these questions while I lay still on the floor. There’s only one prominent question lingering in the back of my mind and refuses to leave “Did i make a mistake coming down here?”*Ringing* My phone jolts me outta the trance I’m in. I start digging through the boxes laying beside me because I can’t really remembe
ASHER’S POVThe moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie silver glow over the Moon Room. The air was alive with the scent of damp earth and decayed dead bodies. It was like every usual night in the small town of Raven’s Peak. But for me, this is a night of reckoning. I’ve been waiting for this moment for weeks now.I stood right in the center of the Moon Room, in the exact same spot I stood during my trial day three years ago. It still feels like yesterday, the shock on their faces when I revealed my alpha mark, the screams of the victims as I choked the life out of them.Ethan and my Father! I still get nightmares of that night, little disturbing fragments of how they died fighting by my side. I took a deep breath, the cool night air filling my lungs. Tonight, I will face my monsters. Tonight I would put an end to the ever-occurring nightmares that grips me every night for the last three years.“You stand just like him” I heard a hoarse and eerie voice behind me, and a figure comin
ASHER’S POVI took one last glance at my wrist watch and curse at the fact that Amber has not returned any of my calls yet. I don’t know why I keep finding myself calling her even after I said I wouldn’t. Something is definitely wrong with me, in as much as this is a strange feeling. I kind of like how it feels. I’m Alpha and I usually get whatever I wanted. But she sure as hell don’t care about none of that. I picked up my phone from the office table and called Raul, if she doesn’t wanna talk to me, fine. I’ll still want to know if she’s okay regardless.“Hello Alpha” Raul says on the other side of the phone.“How’s it going?” I ask“Calm as a dove, she hasn’t left the condo yet, the only movement was when she came out to pickup a delivery…pizza”“Great, keep a safe distance, we don’t want to spook her into thinking you’re stalking her and create another suspicious activity” I added“Yes Alpha” Raul says.As soon as I dropped the call I heard a knock on my office door.“Your 2 o’clo
ASHER’S POV The sun stared back at me as I looked up at it, as if it had some of the answers to my questions. I stood here at the entrance of the cabin for minutes examining and scanning the crime scene before me. On the ground, the omega, Manny, lays motionless, his bulgy eyes frozen in a permanent stare. My heart sank as I continued to take in the sight of Manny’s lifeless body. “Who could have done this?” I growl, my voice barely above a whisper. “We need to investigate” Kyrie says, emerging from the shadows and halting close to the dead body “This was no accident” he added. My gaze fell upon the puncture wounds on the neck of Manny, and my mind started racing with the implications that this was a murder and the killer is still out there. This struck close to home and Amber’s cabin is just a few blocks away. I was relieved abit to see it was not her body I’m staring down at. I don’t know what I would have done. I drove out here with some Pack members; Augustus the Pack’s heal
ASHER’S POV.The air in the Moon Room was thick with tension, a palpable hum of fear and anger vibrating off the stone walls. My face grim, as I surveyed the Pack in front of me. I had the Moon Room cleared and everything put in place for this sole purpose; to address the Pack.My eyes swarmed across the Moon Room, as I could clearly see tension, fear and anger in the Pack’s faces, clearly the news of Manny’s death had spread across town. Raven’s Peak isn’t a place a rumor of this magnitude would remain a rumor for long.I cleared my throat, the sound echoing through the chamber."There has been a murder amongst us, the pack’s Omega, Manny tragically happens to be the victim" I announced. I could hear murmuring amongst the Pack.I paused, letting the weight of my words sink in. A brief silence hovered over the Moon Room and I could see a glimpse of unity among the Pack.“We don’t know who committed this crime and why, but what we know is he was murdered by a werewolf, it is yet to be
AMBER’S POV After a week of mind vs body, heart vs logic. I decided to give in to my passion instead of my own lack of motivation to leave the cabin. I was determined to stick to why I came to Raven’s Peak in the first place; explorations. It’s a beautiful town with its perks and imperfections— but that’s the case with most beautiful things. “I’ll take another please!” I signaled to the bartender as I ordered for my third shot in a row. Earlier I found I had cravings for some whiskey, and Mrs Hernandez suggested this bar for me to gulp away my lack of zeal. “What are we celebrating tonight?” the bartender asks flashing a smile. “Oh, noth….. you know what, how about new beginnings?” I answered as I raise my glass in the air. “Hear, hear!” the bartender says as he retreats to serve another person. My gaze shifts and I decided to take a proper look around the bar, it’s filled with people. Very normal looking people. I noticed I locked eyes with two strange and creepy men s
ASHER’S POV. Ember Wellesley, the woman you are. Every inch of you is beautiful. I've never felt this way for anyone. Watching you groan restlessly in your sleep makes my heart boil with venom. I hate watching you drift in and out of sleep. I wish I could take away all of the pains and make them mine. Now, I wish I had killed them all, those bastards should thank their gods. I didn't want you to see me as a monster. That’s the only reason I let them go off that easily. And besides there are too many bodies dropping in Raven’s Peak already. “Ugh! Asher?” Ember says faintly. As she finally peels her eyes open. “I’m here Kitten, you’re okay” I say sitting beside her and stroking her hair. “Where am I?” She asks, wearing a worrisome look on her face. “The big house, my house” I answered. “How long have I been out?” she inquired, gently lifting herself up. I help her up and she seats in bed. “48 hours” I place a pillow behind her back to make her more comfortable. “You sh
JULIAN’S POVThe room smelled like sage, iron, and old smoke—Vivianne’s idea of comfort. She always said it cleared the air. I figured it just masked the scent of rot that clung to this place like a second skin.Aiden stood near the window, staring out at the woods. He hadn’t said a word since we came in, but that was typical. He only spoke when he wanted to be heard. Otherwise, silence did the trick. Vivianne was seated across from me, her long fingers tracing the rim of her tea cup. The fire in the hearth cracked behind her, casting flickering shadows across her face. For a moment, she looked soft. Almost human. But I knew better.“So,” she said finally, voice low and even, “we’ve confirmed the soil?”I nodded once. “Magnetite. Straight from the northern ridge of Raven’s Peak. The scouts made sure of it. They’ll be scrambling now, trying to plug the leak.”“Good,” she said, smiling faintly. “Let them chase ghosts while we sharpen our blades.”Aiden turned then, arms crossed. “Still
EMBER’S POVThe dirt was cool between my fingers, a little damp from last night’s rain. I pressed into it, trying to focus on the way the earth felt, the smell of rosemary and damp leaves. The sun hadn’t fully risen yet, just a soft glow creeping through the trees. Usually, mornings like this made me feel calm. Safe. But not today.I tugged at a weed near the basil, too hard, and the stem snapped in my hand.“Careful,” a voice behind me said. Warm. Familiar. *His*. “You’re going to make the poor plant cry.”I didn’t turn around. “You should be at the office, Asher.” I said.“I know, Kitten,” he said.I stood up slowly, brushing my hands off on my apron. I didn’t want to look at him, but I did anyway. He looked the same—tired, like he hadn’t slept, like maybe he’d been up thinking about me the way I’d been thinking about him. His hair was a mess. I hated how much I liked that.“I can’t keep doing this,” I said quietly. “It doesn’t feel right.”Asher tilted his head. “What doesn’t?”“
VIVIANNE ST. CLAIR’S POVThe room was quiet. Still. The kind of quiet that feels heavy, like it’s holding its breath. The fire in the corner had burned low, more shadows than light now, and the wind outside was brushing against the windows like it was looking for a way in.I sat on the edge of the bed, one hand curled around a mug of tea that had gone cold an hour ago. The other rested on the empty space beside me.His side.I hadn’t touched it in years.Lucas. God, his name still did something to me. Still made my chest tighten like it did the first time I realized I loved him — really loved him. Not the easy kind. The kind that changes how you breathe. We met too young. Or maybe just early enough. He was wild, cocky, always smelled like smoke and something sharp, like the woods before a storm. I thought I hated him at first. He always had something to say, always knew what I was thinking before I did.But he saw me.Not just the pretty parts. Not the version of me I built for ever
JULIAN ST. CLAIR’S POV*Low lighting. Shadows cling to the bookshelves, stretching like secrets. Rain whispers against the tall windows. The storm outside is gentle — almost tender. I sunk my bottocks in my chair, alone at my desk, a half-empty glass of whiskey in my hand. A bottle of something old and expensive rests beside me.**A single candle flickers near my elbow, casting gold across my face. The fire crackles softly in the hearth behind me. My eyes are distant, fixed on the space just beyond the rim of my glass. Then — a knock at the door. Not loud. Not urgent. Just enough to break the silence.***AIDEN** (off-screen) You heard?**JULIAN** (coldly) I have ears, don’t I?*The door creaks open and Aiden leans against the frame. His expression is unreadable, but his presence lingers like smoke. I did not turn to look at him.***AIDEN** It’s real. Ava’s dead.*A beat. I lift my glass slightly, eyes still fixed on the candlelight.***JULIAN** *Suicide*, they’re saying.
EMBER WELLESLEY’S POVThe room is dim. A few candles flicker near the windowsill. Rain lashes gently against the glass. I sat on the floor, knees pulled to my chest, clutching a sweater that used to belong to Ava. My eyes are red, my face pale. A storm rages silently inside me, muted only by exhaustion.Asher stands in the doorway, hesitant. He watches me for a moment before stepping inside, shutting the door softly behind him. He crosses the room and lowers himself next to me.“You’ve been in here for hours.” Asher said, quietly.I do not respond. My fingers tighten around the sweater. When I speak, my voice is brittle, like glass on the edge of shattering.“We had her right there in front of us last night, and I didn’t even ask if she was okay. I didn’t even—God, I didn’t *see* it.” I responded.“None of us did.” Asher said softly.“But I should have. I *knew* her. I knew how she hid things. And I just… let her say she was fine. Like always.” I protested.Silence. Asher reaches out,
ASHER NIGHTSHADE’S POV.The silence hovering in the air in my Maybach was the only company we shared driving back from the meeting with Ava. Ember hasn’t uttered a wide the entire drive back to the big house and I worry for her. I hope this was the closure she needs to be able to finally move on — or we might have opened an even bigger wound. I hope the latter is the case. And who the hell is Julian?“I can’t believe Ava is truly gone” Ember finally finds her voice. “I could swear there’s not much Ava left in whoever came to the meeting—that wasn’t my sister!” She added.I take a long and deep breath, resting my back on the car seat.“I’m sorry about everything, but I think she’s made her choice. It’s time for you to respect it and find a way to be able to live with it” I said.“That was the initial plan, I’m just glad I got to try again, else I wouldn’t be able to live with myself” she utters.“That’s right, you did all you could and that’s enough, Kitten” “Thank you for giving me t
ENID’S POVThe small space is dimly lit — just the warm amber from a single lamp and the city glow leaking through half-shut blinds. A tea mug sits on the edge of the table, long forgotten. Enid paces, barefoot, her hair pulled back in a hasty knot. There’s a knock.I hesitated, heart thudding. Then the door creaks open.LARK steps in, not waiting for an invite. He shuts the door behind him with a soft click. He doesn’t smile — not really. Just studies me like he already knows what I’m thinking.“You’re going to tell Asher, aren’t you?” He asked.“You shouldn’t be here.” I said.“Didn’t ask if I should be. I’m here because I know you better than anyone, Enid. And you’ve got that look again.” He said back.“What look?” I asked.“Like you’re about to set your own house on fire just to feel clean.” He responded.I looked away, jaw tightening. Silence stretches between us.“I’m not here to argue. Just… don’t make this harder than it already is.” He added.“He deserves the truth.” I said,
EMBER WELLESLEY’S POVIt’s late. The kind of late where everything is too quiet and the air feels too heavy. I shouldn’t have come to Asher like this—hair unbrushed, eyes red, jacket pulled on inside out. But I didn’t care. I just needed someone who still had a thread to me.I sat on the steps and stared at the pavement like it might rearrange itself into something that made sense. “Can you find her?” I asked.Asher leaned against the railing, arms crossed. His silence was thick, but I knew he was listening.“Ava,” I said, voice catching on her name. “Can you use your connect, or whatever it is you still have, and bring her back to me? Even just for five minutes.” I added. He didn’t respond right away. Just shifted, like my words made him uncomfortable.“She won’t answer me. Not even to say she hates me.” I laughed quietly, humorless. “Though she made that pretty clear the last time we talked.” I said, voice barely above a whisper.Asher’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t interrupt.“She
DARIUS LARK’S POV.I stood at the window, the city lights twinkling like stars below, but my mind was a thousand miles away. My head echoed with the dwindling voice of Enid as she revealed her discovery to me last night."Enid has found a sample that connects the St. Clairs to the murder of Manny and the animals." My fingers tightened around the glass, the scotch suddenly tasting bitter, as I hit ‘send’ on my phone. I texted Julian to let him know about the discovery.Panic began to creep in, my heart racing with every possible scenario. Enid was getting too close, and I couldn't let her expose our involvement. I thought about all the times I'd been careful, all the precautions I'd taken to keep our secrets safe. But now, it seemed, Enid had stumbled upon something that could ruin everything.I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead as I thought about the consequences. The St. Clairs, the company, my reputation – it all had to be protected. I thought about the next move, the steps
