I was scared shitless, with no idea of what I should do, but I couldn't leave him here, alone, for some reason.
He looked so big and dangerous but he was also badly injured and I couldn't move - to or away from him.
He growled again in his pain and I grimaced, the tiny furs covering his right fore limb were stained in his own blood.
His dark eyes with their glowing gold ring bored into mine as I tried to remember every reason I shouldn't go any closer to him.
His kind had killed my family.
They'd stormed in on that cold night and had gutted my parents. They'd killed Kelvin, and he'd just been three fucking years old.
I should leave him here to die. He'd probably kill me too once he realises I'm not a werewolf like him but an ordinary human.
Why the fuck did I leave my safe haven in the first place for this pointless satiation of curiosity, with only my courage and my survival kit that's more of a backpack with me.
I'll probably get killed by one of these wolves now or worse, get spotted and taken by the agency that every living human have been warned about.
I don't want to end up dead or as a lab rat.
I need to find out who killed my parents.
I need to find out why they did it.
And I want to watch them suffer every single day of their life for what they did to my baby brother!
Sweet, little, innocent Kelvin...
A deep growl jolted me out of that aggravating memory lane.
I wonder what he'd been injured with.
Aren't werewolves supposed to heal up so fast you'd think they'd never been hurt before?
Then why isn't he healing?
I move involuntarily closer to him, fear engulfing me as I did.
He looked so big and ferocious even in his pains, and he's by far the biggest of them I've seen so far.
His dark furs shone in the light produced by the full, imposing moon and my handy flash light and I itched to push my fingers through it and feel it's softness.
The full moon!
Shit, I shouldn't be out on a fucking full moon. That's when most werewolves shift into their wolf form and it could get really dangerous for us humans.
And here I am!
I dropped on my knees beside him and when he didn't strike out, I reached out to touch him.
I examined his injury. There was a deep gash on that limb and on a closer look, I discovered there were others just as bad covering his body, the furs around them matted with dried blood.
Why isn't he changing back to his human form? I panicked in my head.
He was calm and steady as he let me examine him, taking it like the big boy he is- literally.
That's a good sign, right?
Fuck!
Right on his side, was another bleeding cut and in it embedded a silver arrow head with only a small part of it visible to an inquisitive eye.
Ahha, finally, a sensible explanation for his inability to heal.
I have to figure out how to get it out of him fast because if everything I've learned of his kind is true, leaving this buried in him for much longer can actually kill him.
I find the thought of having him die on my watch surprisingly disturbing.
I mean, it's not like I'd even recognise him when he's all healed up and back in his human form but it did bother me that he could die right here.
Might be because we are a kind of kindred spirits. We're alone and left to fight our battles ourselves in this cruel word, worse fated for me than him.
It's not like this night would matter in any future to either of us.
Not like it would change the fact that now being human makes me a fucking minority, a target for an experiment whose result can only help his kind.
Some messed up kindred spirit we turned out to be.
My heart beat a tattoo against my chest as I reached out my hand to stroke his head briefly.
He leaned into my hand, howling from what I guess was still pain.
He must be some calm, geeky guy in his human form, I imagined.
What the hell am I doing stroking him and imagining what he'd be like in his human form!?
He's probably gonna die if I don't do shit about that silver in his side.
"I'm going to take care of you now, big guy." I explained as I deftly pulled my survival kit and rummaged through the jumbled mess I'd made packing it.
I grabbed the small clamp like device I'd thrown in earlier for no reason at all.
Thank God I did.
He made a small sound and nuzzled into me as I fell back on his side again, the hurt one this time.
"It's okay now, it'll only hurt a little and then you'll be fine." I muttered, hoping to God he understands.
The clamp looked perfect for pulling the arrow head out of him.
I hope he start healing up after this because there's not much more I can do for him besides basic human first aid.
And I can't stay out much longer.
With the aid of my dimming flash light, I fit the clamp around the visible part of the silver arrow head and pulled.
He was being surprisingly calm with this.
How the hell had he gotten this stuck in him in the first place?
Had he been in a fight or something?
And what would a probably would be geeky guy be doing fighting?
He's probably as big as his wolf and maybe that's why he'd been thrown in.
I pulled again, making a little progress as the silver piece moved.
I tried again, going as hard as I could and then it finally came free.
There was only a little howl betraying his pain right at the end and then nothing.
"There you go, big guy," I cheered.
"And you took it with good graces fit of a warrior. You must be a whole lot hella stronger than I first thought. What happened to you anyways?"
He responded with a growl.
"Easy there boy." I muttered, a tad bit afraid of how ferocious it had sounded.
"No eating me, I just saved your wolf-y ass."
I took more supplies from my bag and tidied up his cuts as best as I could.
Wow, they were already showing good signs of healing.
This ability of easy regeneration and quicker healing is one thing I envy his kind.
If mom and dad had had it, they might still be here for me now.
And Kelvin......
I stood abruptly from his side and moved away.
I've graced humanity by staying put and helping get rid of the alien element in his body, inhibiting that wonderful regenerative abilities and fast healing.
But there's no way I'm staying any longer than necessary now. There'd be no guarantee I wouldn't drive that silver back into him at the rate memories of my ugly past was rearing their head.
His kind had done it!
But he didn't do it.........probably, I reasoned.
And it wouldn't bring them back to me.
"I hope you get better now and make it out of here."
I started picking up my stuffs that lay around the ground and stuffed them back in my bag.
"And I hope you understand that I can't stay."
I pulled it on my back.
I can't risk being caught here, not after I've spent half my life hiding.
With one last glance at my big, gray wolf patient and his already healing injuries, I turned and began hiking my way back home.
This night didn't go anyway like I'd imagined it.
So much for snooping around when I really shouldn't have.
The night got darker as the power of my flashlight died down more by each passing minute.
What the fuck! Not now please.
I begin to walk faster, then broke out into a full run as I tried to see my way out out of this thicket.
That's when I heard it, the unmistakable sound of swooshing rotor blades, like a helicopter was really close to my current position.
Then there was that loud beep sound that was to humans like silver to werewolves.
Holy shit, I've been spotted.
That beep was followed by the pointing of a sharp, piercing red ray at my running figure.
And I knew.
Whoever is in that air craft have found me and they know too, what I did.
They know I'm not a werewolf. They know I'm just a helpless, little human and they are going to try to take me.
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!!
I don't want to be taken.
Save me God.
How the hell did I let this happen?
Now I'm going to die without getting my answers, no reasons, no vengeance for their death.
I tore my way through this forest at my best speed yet. At least I have the added advantage of easier navigation.
They'll have a problem landing that machine in here, or flying low enough to grab me.
I'm going to fail the most important people to me by dying now.
But it'll only be a matter of time before they have me in their clutches, tearing me apart and testing ways to improve their specie with my flesh and blood and the DNA that I've been passed.
Shit!
That is gonna be one messed up way to go.
NANCY'S POVI ran out of my room, hurrying down the hall and stairs in a blind race to find him, stopping myself from considering the possibility of someone else still lurking in here looking for who to harm. It'd really suck for me to die now, without even getting to at least have a proper boy or get married and have kids.Hell, I haven't even lost my V-card yet.I needed to find him and fast before whoever that guy is gets further away and out of reach.I knew for sure that he wasn't in his room because I'd watched him take the stairs but I have no fucking idea where he'd be in this insanely large house.Fuck."Aaron." The name was like a small prayer on my lips as my eyes darted around the sitting room I just ran into, with lots of pairs of eyes staring at me like I'm a freak.I ignored the looks, focusing my thoughts on the only thing that mattered in the moment, the more time I take in finding him, the further that man can get and that will be it.He'd be gone and if he'd been
NANCY'S POVHe kissed me.Of all the people in this house, Aaron was the last person I'd been expecting to see at the other side of my door when I'd heard the knock.I'd thought it was Jaden coming back to give me one more dose of his warnings to stay indoors until everything have been sorted and the killer caught. But when I opened my door, I find Aaron there instead, his face washed with sudden relief? Before I could ask if there was any problem or if he needed me to go over the details of my dreams one more time, because that's what everyone seems to be interested in today, he just........kissed me.Yeah he did, just closed the distance between us and covered my lips with his and I swear I don't know what to do with him.One minute I'm indoors as instructed, grieving over the sad news I'd just received and the next, I'm in his arms, his lips crashing down on mine. There's nothing hungry or coarse in the soft glide of his lips against mine or the pleading probe of his tongue begging
AARON'S POV The girl looked like she'd been terrified before she'd died. She had her eyes open even in death and the horrors of her last moment reflected in her lifeless eyes. The memory of the dream that loudie had painstakingly described to me sat dominantly in my head, the coincidence of the two was to perfect to leave me in comfort. Loudie, she reminded me of a Saura. The blessed wolves of the moon goddess. It's been so long since we've had those in our packs. And the chances were slim because she was human. She confuses the hell out of me and it was hard figuring her out. And somehow she's managed to crawl under my skin and remain there. I ordered for the body to be taken to the lab for post mortem examinations and the rest of the protocols before she's laid to rest. I want to know everything I can on what had happened to her. It had been my fucking duty to prot
NANCY'S POVI woke up late from my long, dreamless sleep. He was gone by the time I did, but I couldn't get over the fact that he'd come for me at all. He's the reason I was able to sleep back after that horrible dream that I'd had last night. It had felt so safe and secure in his arms, like nothing in this world could touch me in their security. Not that I expect this to change anything between us.I've learnt to curb my expectations when it comes to him.It is safe and less painful.I'm sure he's reverted back to Alpha Aaron by now.Last night, he'd been Aaron, just Aaron, my nextdoor neighbor and my savior.I dragged my tired body to the bathroom to brush, 'ready' to get ready and get out of my coop, take the day and my life.I might be brave enough to finally talk to him about school today, who knows. His mother had advised me to, after all.I missed them, his parents I mean. They are nice f
AARON'S POVSomehow, being with her and listening to her seemed to be what I'd needed this night.I'd come into her room with every intention of banishing the demons of her nightmare but as I sat holding her small figure, her intoxicating scent flirting with my senses, it was mine getting put to rest.It was there, everything I shouldn't be feeling, and I came closest to believing what Aragon has been throwing at me.Maybe she's our mate, maybe the moon goddess did out do herself this time. Not that it makes any sense and neither do I plan to do anything about it even if it's true.It did feel good allowing myself think about what it'd feel like to give in to the mate bond with this little firecracker. But it'd be best for the both of us if I stay away and ignore the pull I feet towards her petite sweetness.I didn't have to look to know that she's finally fallen asleep again, hopefully this one will go without the nightm
NANCY'S POVI was surprised to see him in my room when my eyes finally came open, freeing me from that horrible dream. It'd only been a dream, the dreadful scene I'd been trapped in, but somehow, his voice and his promise to protect me had gotten through to me and had been the beacon that had lead me out of that gripping darkness of a nightmare.I was too scared to fight the holding his strong arms around me, holding me to him like some child in the sure, protective arms of its father.I needed his strength and the reassuring bass of his deep, velvety voice promising me that it's okay, that I'm safe here with him.I let him hold me to the sculpted hardness that is his body, clinging to him like my life depends on it.At this point, I think it probably does.My abdomen hurt, I knew it was the spot that Laura's fist had impacted during the last practice.
AARON'S POVThis week just keeps getting worse.First there's the elusive pussy that is Gerald Hawkins who's driving me fast to the end of my patience. The son of a bitch tries to kill me and then goes under, missing in action. He's been on an infuriating low, with no real news on him from my tracking team and somehow he's avoided the traps I've shared for him.His coward ass is pushing me to a rough end and once I'm there, fuck boundaries and territories, he'll beg for a place in hell to hide from me and I'll find him there.I need to know that my pack will always be protected, their safety comes before anything else but with him still out there, that safety and protection could be jeopardized. And now I have to add the wolf that I'd ripped to death. We still can't figure out who he is and why he'd been there.I have my suspicions
NANCY'S POVI was back in the training ground, but now the endless expanse of it was empty, except for Laura who was smiling at me with a mean gleam glowing in her eyes. She looked scary like this and it made my heart beat faster. The silence surrounding us was eerie and then there was the disconcerting rustling of leaves I couldn't see and the chill that made goosebumps rise on my skin. And then, there was the looming darkness in the sky, threatening to swallow us all in the entirety of its blackness.I didn't want to be here and there didn't seem to be any way out, to escape this, escape her.And without warning, she was on me, her weight smashing my small form to the ground. She was on me in no second, hitting the holy crap out of my poor soul. Her eyes were gleaming and she didn't look so much like herself anymore. She was hitti
LAURA'S POVShe looks just like I expected her to, small, too young and disgustingly innocent.I wanted to protest when Aaron asked that I train with her this morning, I didn't come here to sit some slutty human child through training, but I don't want to swing on his bad side already. There's nothing special about her except the fact that she's human, weaker and shouldn't be here in the first place.Yet, here she is poaching in my territory and on my men.I plan to send her right where she belongs, in the lab where the rest of her kind are.I won't have some human brat ruin my carefully constructed plans.I'm sure Makal will like to hear
