CHAPTER 29

Having a nice sleep wouldn't be the right word to say. For Collins, had the best night of his life. He caressed her face and watched as she batted her eyelashes, about to wake up. Tammie yawned softly, “You're awake?” she blurted out, shocked Collins was up so early. A feeling of death crawled up her skin, “didn't you have a nice sleep?”

Collins chuckled softly and pulled her closer, inhaling her scent, “I should be asking you that. Did you have any nightmares?” he asked, staring into her eyes and she shook her head, trapped in his gaze, “No nightmares.”

“Likewise.” Collins wanted to say, but he didn't want to worry her. However, Tammie was hell-bent on hearing him talk about his night. He pulled her even closer, his hot breath caressing her skin, “I slept well, Tammie.” he smiled, warmth spreading in his heart.

Tammie heaved a sigh of relief and cupped his cheeks, “How about dinner with my dad?” she asked, holding her breath for a response. She stared at Collins, not wanti

Collins's Point of ViewCollins reached into his briefcase and pulled out a new set of documents. "These are updated terms. They cover our relationships, not only the business. So, if agreed, we can work on this together, with clear goals and mutual respect."She skimmed over them. The new terms were all about joint decisions and spending personal time. It was a step in the direction of something more than just a transaction. Before she could ask more questions, her phone buzzed again. This time, it was a message from her father's doctor: Urgent! Need to speak with you immediately.Tammie's heart fell. "I need to go. My father's health might be taking a wrong turn."Collins got up with a troubled expression. "I'll go with you. We can talk more at the hospital."Tammie only nodded, relieved but frightened. They sped off towards the hospital with Collins forcing his way quickly through the city streets. Tammie's Point of ViewTammie entered the room, her heart pounding as she found the faces of the board members and James. The room was surcharged with tension, and urgency in the situation demanded value for every second."I want to thank you all for coming, on such short notice," Tammie tried to keep a calm head. "I know that this is a critical general moment for our company."James nodded, showing his wrinkles of worry. "We've got the creditor's demands. They want repayment within 24 hours or they'll take legal action."The board members looked around at each other nervously. Tammie felt her anxiety shoot up. "What are our options?"James stepped onto the stage. "We can try to bargain for more time, but it may not fly. The other option we have is to find the funds—quickly."Tammie didn't know what to do. She thought of the contract Collins offered. This money could solve her immediate financial crisis, but more than that, accepting his proposal meant agreeing to his offer—an arrange

Collins's Point of ViewDays seemed to fly by in a blurry haze of preparation and meetings. Tammie hardly even had a moment to reconcile everything that was happening. Her life had been turned upside down in a matter of days, and she was now hurtling towards something she had never in her wildest dreams thought would come to pass, an arranged marriage. It had all been as Collins had promised, and he came to the office every day to assist in sorting out the financial mess. They had managed to restore the company to solvency and stabilize it by bargaining with creditors and calming down anxious investors. The worst of the crisis was over. The business of their marriage, such as it was, had been attempted. One afternoon, as they sat in her office, Collins looked up from a stack of papers. "We need to discuss the wedding."Tammie's stomach twisted. "We need to discuss the wedding? This all feels so… surreal."Collins leaned back on the chair, scrutinizing her face. Tammie's PovThe wedding was over, but in Tammie's mind there still lived a patina of disquiet. And that guy at the reception continued to play in her mind. Who was he? And what did he want? She was asking herself many questions as she couldn't fix her life. The morning-after wedding was the first time Tammie had been out of bed; Collins sat at her feet, dressed. He sat on the brown sofa drinking coffee, reading e-mails with his thumb. He looked up as she walked into the kitchen and smiled slightly.Morning," he responded, and she was struck by the calm amiability in his voice.“Morning,” Tammie answered, putting on a smile. It still took some getting used to the fact that she had only just met her husband.I have some meetings today— Collins told her, —We must also see what new business to start with later.Tammie nodded slowly, a little overjoyed but otherwise quietly irritated. Partly relieved she would not be subject to his torment all day, and partly irritated that her marriage f

Chapter 6 A soft sigh escaped Tammie’s lips, as the golden ray of the sun cast a warm glow on her face. She pushed the duvet off her body and walked towards the bathroom, her mind still occupied with the suspicious note and the secrets Collins was hiding. The note had her heart racing, thoughts of who to believe clouding her mind. She soaked her body in a hot, simmering bath and closed her eyes to clear her mind. Tammie couldn't believe she was married now, but the fact that the financial crisis was resolved somehow somehow relieved her. She descended the stairs in a fitted dress, her hair swaying as she walked. Sighting Collins a few steps away, her heart skipped a beat as this uneasy feeling seeped into her bones. “Some truths are dangerous, Tammie.” His words echoed in her ears, making her wonder what he was truly hiding. The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, and her stomach grumbled loudly, earning a chuckle from Collins. “You're up,” his voice ra

Chapter 7 Tammie's heart skipped a beat as a smile slowly colored her lips, “Collins Blackwood?” she asked, and the young kid nodded, urging her to sign the file. Tammie picked up a pen and signed, “Thanks, but I think ninety-nine roses are too much for you to handle.” she said as she walked out of the company, leaving the young kid in awe. He ruffled his hair with his hands, a reddish tint slowly coloring his cheeks, “Damn! sShe'shot.” Tammie walked towards the parking lot, some roses falling to the ground, decorating the pavement like a wedding aisle. Collins had earned the title of a ‘Ruthless man' in the business society, but behind the covers, all Tammie could see was a diligent man who cared for his wife as well. She placed the roses next to her and started the engine, exhausted from the day’s work. The dark clouds covered the sky like a thick blanket, changing it from its usual blue to a grayish color. The thunder rumbled, and Tammie had a feeling

She placed some steak on her plate, “Alright then “ she nodded stiffly, “I'll attend the dinner.” The rest of the evening was smooth as dinner passed by in the blink of an eye. Collins gulped down the last sip of his wine before getting up from the table, “I'll be upstairs.” he said plainly, tucking his hands in his pocket before walking away. They were couples, newlyweds, but they slept in separate rooms. Collins wasn't a pervert, someone who derived pleasure in exploiting women, so he gave her the chance to choose her preference. She reached for it, taking a small sip before leaving the dining

Chapter 23Tammie watched as Collins strolled in with a journal in his hands, but like always, she ignored him and continued brewing her coffee. His actions yesterday had surprised her, and the fact that he got jealous over a man's jacket alone was annoying. She mixed her coffee with a spoon and walked towards the couch, “You're back.” That was all she said, and Collins nodded stiffly, still thinking about the first sentence written in that journal. He felt like Wills was giving him a chance to settle things with his wife and improve their relationship, but how was that supposed to help him sleep better? He inhaled a deep breath and walked towards her, “Do you feel better?” his cold voice warmed Tammie up and her grip on her cup tightened. She took some mouthfuls of the coffee and flashed a smile, “As you can see, I'm quite alright.”Collins nodded before ascending the stairs, his lips pressed together in deep thought. He placed the journal on his bed, and loosened up his tie, before

Chapter 22For ages, we've been told that the monsters are underneath our beds, hiding in the darkness only to come out during our rest time. However, as Collins grew, he realized there was no such thing as a monster beneath the bed.The real monster was locked up in his heart, haunting and terrorizing him during the nighttime. The gruesome memories and the torturous past were his monsters, the vulnerable part of him he so much wanted to hide from others. In a white room, Collins crossed his legs and leaned backward, closing his eyes as he listened to Wills’ rants,“I’ve told you countless times, only take two pills whenever you're about to sleep!”“You've been feeding your body with so much that now you're addicted.”“Now, the pills no longer work for you.” Wills spat, his body trembling from anger. He was Collins' therapist for several years, but Collins was still fighting the same battle, unable to overcome his nightmares due to a traumatizing event that happened several years ago.

The distasteful smell of garlic wafted into her nose and she groaned, turning away, “What happened to me?” she asked softly, her voice strained as she leaned on the wall, “And why are you here?”Collins simply stared at her, the soup turning warm, “You fainted while having a bath.” His words echoed in her ears and she trembled, her gaze traveling down her legs. She swallowed nervously and stared at her exposed arms, “What the hell happened?” She shrieked, fear evident in her features, “Did…did you carry me in here?”“Were you expecting the butler to carry you instead?” Collins asked with a chuckle, “Or you expect me to allow you to drown?” He placed the spoon back in the bowl and raised the whole bowl, “Would you ret
