Tammie's Point of View
Tammie Daniels was pacing around her apartment, beside herself while trying to wrap her head around the call she had just had from her father. Time was ticking away, and the business was in trouble. She had been working her back end off on this charity gala, but now everything seemed so unimportant compared to saving her daddy's company.
The unexpected ringing of the doorbell forced Tammie to open the door to find a man in a sharp suit holding a briefcase. He introduced himself as Robert Martin, lawyer to Collins Blackwood. Tammie's heart raced. Collins Blackwood was a billionaire known for his business skills. What could his lawyer possibly want with her?
"Ms. Daniels, thanks for seeing me," Robert said as he stepped inside. "Mr. Blackwood has an offer for you.
Tammie's heart skipped a beat. "An offer? What kind of offer?"
Robert opened his briefcase and placed the open edge at a level where papers soon followed into formation. "He said he wants to assist with financial problems facing your family."
"Help how?" Tammie asked.
"He's willing to give you the money you need," Robert explained, "but there's a condition."
Tammie's hands shook. "What's the condition?
Robert said, "Mr. Blackwood wishes to marry you. You would arrange a marriage in return for his help."
The room began to sway. "Marry him? That's insane."
"I must tell you, Mr. Blackwood is not joking," Robert said. "He has told me he is prepared to negotiate the actual terms.
Tammie took the papers, feeling overwhelmed. How could she marry a man she hardly knew? Her father's business was at stake, and she needed to think of that.
The following day, Tammie went to see Collins Blackwood in his office. He was tall, nicely dressed, very serious-looking, and seemed to be many years older. As they shook hands, Tammie's nervousness got the better of her.
"Ms. Daniels, appreciate you comin'," Collins said calmly yet coldly. "Have you perused the proposal?"
"I have," Tammie responded, trying to sound put together. "But I wanna understand more. Why do you want to marry me?"
Collins leaned back in his chair, observing her. "My father wanted me to ally through marriage to further both our families' interests. Your family has a valuable business, and this marriage will benefit us both."
Tammie was frustrated. "And what about the personal side of this? What do you expect from me?
"This is a business arrangement," Collins said matter-of-factly. "The personal aspects come second. We are looking at the financial and strategic gains that come with it."
Tammie felt a pang of disappointment. She had at least expected some sympathetic words of condolence, of empathy. But her father was in ill health, and the business needed to be saved.
Her lawyer ended the meeting with Collins and handed her the contract. Tammie glanced at the document, feeling the weight of the decision she had to make. She had until the end of the day to decide.
Her lawyer unveiled the contract after the presentation ended, and one look at it and Tammie knew she weighted her decision on her shoulders until the close of business.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Tammie tried not to break down in front of her father. Her mind wandered back and forth to the contract and the hard decision she had to make.
After this, deep into the night, when Tammie had left the hospital, there was a new message from Collins's lawyer saying that there had to be one final meeting regarding the contract. Time is running and she'd have to make the decision by now.
Tammie was in the dark room, all alone; thoughts just made her feel breathless. She had to make a firm decision, whether to say 'yes' to Collins's proposal or 'no'. 'Yes' literally would save her family's business, but 'no' might not favor her at all.
Ring riiinnnn--- Tammie's heart almost leaped out of her chest hearing the second ring. She moved, pulling the door open, to see her interviewer, Collins, holding a bouquet, which did nothing for his dull expression and made her even more nervous about his sudden visit.
Before she was able to say anything at all, Collins got into the room. "Tammie, we have to talk. I've got something important that I haven't mentioned to you."
Tammie's heart was racing wildly. What new information could this be at this point from Collins? The night was not over and was going to get even more complicated for Tammie.
Her mind raced and Collins entered her apartment with a bunch of flowers that didn't fit with her imagination. She led him to the living room, trying to cool her nerves.
"Thanks for coming," Tammie said her lips, trying to sound calm. "What is it that you need to tell me?"
Collins' countenance became as sober as Tammie ever remembered as he took a large breath. "I do realize this business proposal of a marriage seems so unlikely and cold, Tammie, but there is more to it than that."
She sat on his couch by this time beseechingly. "And what would that be, I would like to know?"
Collins sat; his face said it was serious. "There is something my father wanted before he died. He wanted me to secure the future of our family through this marriage, but he also wanted this marriage to bring you and me something more."
Tammie squinted. "And what is that 'something more?'
After a pause, Collins said, "He thought that a union like this might bring about stability, happiness, under other circumstances. He didn't want it to be just a cold, business settlement. I didn't understand it then, but now I see what he meant.
A thousand thoughts swirled in Tammie's head, and becoming Collins's wife was something that both repulsed and titillated her. The pressure of her father's deteriorating health and the failing business were still so raw. But Collins put a meaning in his words that insinuated something above mere strategy.
"Why tell me all of this now?" Tammie asked her voice firm but filled with doubt.
"Because I want you to know I'm not asking for a business deal," Collins said. "I want us to have a real chance at something better, despite how this started."
Tammie looked at the bouquet of flowers on the table, a symbol of the personal side Collins was hinting at. "And if I say yes, what happens next?"
Collins's Point of ViewCollins reached into his briefcase and pulled out a new set of documents. "These are updated terms. They cover our relationships, not only the business. So, if agreed, we can work on this together, with clear goals and mutual respect."She skimmed over them. The new terms were all about joint decisions and spending personal time. It was a step in the direction of something more than just a transaction. Before she could ask more questions, her phone buzzed again. This time, it was a message from her father's doctor: Urgent! Need to speak with you immediately.Tammie's heart fell. "I need to go. My father's health might be taking a wrong turn."Collins got up with a troubled expression. "I'll go with you. We can talk more at the hospital."Tammie only nodded, relieved but frightened. They sped off towards the hospital with Collins forcing his way quickly through the city streets. The intensity in the air had everything intensified. They didn't waste any time but
Tammie's Point of ViewTammie entered the room, her heart pounding as she found the faces of the board members and James. The room was surcharged with tension, and urgency in the situation demanded value for every second."I want to thank you all for coming, on such short notice," Tammie tried to keep a calm head. "I know that this is a critical general moment for our company."James nodded, showing his wrinkles of worry. "We've got the creditor's demands. They want repayment within 24 hours or they'll take legal action."The board members looked around at each other nervously. Tammie felt her anxiety shoot up. "What are our options?"James stepped onto the stage. "We can try to bargain for more time, but it may not fly. The other option we have is to find the funds—quickly."Tammie didn't know what to do. She thought of the contract Collins offered. This money could solve her immediate financial crisis, but more than that, accepting his proposal meant agreeing to his offer—an arrange
Collins's Point of ViewDays seemed to fly by in a blurry haze of preparation and meetings. Tammie hardly even had a moment to reconcile everything that was happening. Her life had been turned upside down in a matter of days, and she was now hurtling towards something she had never in her wildest dreams thought would come to pass, an arranged marriage. It had all been as Collins had promised, and he came to the office every day to assist in sorting out the financial mess. They had managed to restore the company to solvency and stabilize it by bargaining with creditors and calming down anxious investors. The worst of the crisis was over. The business of their marriage, such as it was, had been attempted. One afternoon, as they sat in her office, Collins looked up from a stack of papers. "We need to discuss the wedding."Tammie's stomach twisted. "We need to discuss the wedding? This all feels so… surreal."Collins leaned back on the chair, scrutinizing her face. "I know this is a lot t
Tammie's PovThe wedding was over, but in Tammie's mind there still lived a patina of disquiet. And that guy at the reception continued to play in her mind. Who was he? And what did he want? She was asking herself many questions as she couldn't fix her life. The morning-after wedding was the first time Tammie had been out of bed; Collins sat at her feet, dressed. He sat on the brown sofa drinking coffee, reading e-mails with his thumb. He looked up as she walked into the kitchen and smiled slightly.Morning," he responded, and she was struck by the calm amiability in his voice.“Morning,” Tammie answered, putting on a smile. It still took some getting used to the fact that she had only just met her husband.I have some meetings today— Collins told her, —We must also see what new business to start with later.Tammie nodded slowly, a little overjoyed but otherwise quietly irritated. Partly relieved she would not be subject to his torment all day, and partly irritated that her marriage f
Chapter 6 A soft sigh escaped Tammie’s lips, as the golden ray of the sun cast a warm glow on her face. She pushed the duvet off her body and walked towards the bathroom, her mind still occupied with the suspicious note and the secrets Collins was hiding. The note had her heart racing, thoughts of who to believe clouding her mind. She soaked her body in a hot, simmering bath and closed her eyes to clear her mind. Tammie couldn't believe she was married now, but the fact that the financial crisis was resolved somehow somehow relieved her. She descended the stairs in a fitted dress, her hair swaying as she walked. Sighting Collins a few steps away, her heart skipped a beat as this uneasy feeling seeped into her bones. “Some truths are dangerous, Tammie.” His words echoed in her ears, making her wonder what he was truly hiding. The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, and her stomach grumbled loudly, earning a chuckle from Collins. “You're up,” his voice ra
Chapter 7 Tammie's heart skipped a beat as a smile slowly colored her lips, “Collins Blackwood?” she asked, and the young kid nodded, urging her to sign the file. Tammie picked up a pen and signed, “Thanks, but I think ninety-nine roses are too much for you to handle.” she said as she walked out of the company, leaving the young kid in awe. He ruffled his hair with his hands, a reddish tint slowly coloring his cheeks, “Damn! sShe'shot.” Tammie walked towards the parking lot, some roses falling to the ground, decorating the pavement like a wedding aisle. Collins had earned the title of a ‘Ruthless man' in the business society, but behind the covers, all Tammie could see was a diligent man who cared for his wife as well. She placed the roses next to her and started the engine, exhausted from the day’s work. The dark clouds covered the sky like a thick blanket, changing it from its usual blue to a grayish color. The thunder rumbled, and Tammie had a feeling
Chapter 8Collins threw his head back, letting out a manly laugh, “my mother likes you already,” he assured, watching her closely “There's nothing to worry about.” Tammie seemed tense, but her shoulders relaxed after his words. She placed some steak on her plate, “Alright then “ she nodded stiffly, “I'll attend the dinner.” The rest of the evening was smooth as dinner passed by in the blink of an eye. Collins gulped down the last sip of his wine before getting up from the table, “I'll be upstairs.” he said plainly, tucking his hands in his pocket before walking away. They were couples, newlyweds, but they slept in separate rooms. Collins wasn't a pervert, someone who derived pleasure in exploiting women, so he gave her the chance to choose her preference. Tammie watched his retreating figure, his broad frame taking each step with such confidence and noblesse. Her gaze shifted, landing on the glass of wine next to her. She reached for it, taking a small sip before leaving the dining
Chapter 9Tammie stared at the reflection of herself, the blonde lady staring back at her. Her hair fell in curls, reaching her shoulders, and her bangs framed her heart-shaped face. Her blue eyes shone brightly, like diamonds in the night sky, a gaze that would capture men with a single glance. She applied mild makeup, a faint blush on her cheeks, giving her a heavenly appearance, a drop-dead gorgeous beauty with the world beneath her feet. Her hands trailed the rough surface of her purse before walking outside, her heels striking the floor with confidence. She tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ears and descended the stairs, her hands gripping her purse tightly. Dinner with her mother-in-law seemed like a normal thing, but Tammie had a hard time stabilizing her heartbeat. She pressed her lips in a thin line, her mind traveling back to the suspicious figure she found roaming Collins' building. For the past few days, she hadn't found the right time, the right opportunity to
CHAPTER 29Having a nice sleep wouldn't be the right word to say. For Collins, had the best night of his life. He caressed her face and watched as she batted her eyelashes, about to wake up. Tammie yawned softly, “You're awake?” she blurted out, shocked Collins was up so early. A feeling of death crawled up her skin, “didn't you have a nice sleep?”Collins chuckled softly and pulled her closer, inhaling her scent, “I should be asking you that. Did you have any nightmares?” he asked, staring into her eyes and she shook her head, trapped in his gaze, “No nightmares.”“Likewise.” Collins wanted to say, but he didn't want to worry her. However, Tammie was hell-bent on hearing him talk about his night. He pulled her even closer, his hot breath caressing her skin, “I slept well, Tammie.” he smiled, warmth spreading in his heart.Tammie heaved a sigh of relief and cupped his cheeks, “How about dinner with my dad?” she asked, holding her breath for a response. She stared at Collins, not wanti
CHAPTER 28A slight frown appeared on Tammie's face as a shiver ran down her spine. She took slow strides towards Sandros and stared at him, her sharp gaze piercing through his skin, “I am Mrs Blackwood.” she replied, her voice soft, but strong. Sandros' appearance was intimidating, but Tammie wasn't weak as well. Both of them stared at each other for a few more seconds before Tammie asked, “Have I met you somewhere?”Mia's eyes darted around Sandros and Tammie, carefully watching as they gazed at each other. Sandros had a knowing gaze, but Tammie was trying to recall if she had met the strange man before. Mia parted her lips to speak, but Sandros beat her to it, “Mr. Collins Blackwood is magnificent enough to be known by everyone.” he said, walking further into the flower shop, “finding out who his wife is shouldn't be hard.”Tammie narrowed her eyes, bothered by his words. She tilted her head and forced out a smile, eying him suspiciously, “ Then you must be an acquaintance of my hu
CHAPTER 27Tammie let out a small chuckle, “Father, he's busy with work.” She said, tucking a few strands of her hair behind her ears.Other than focusing on Collins' unreciprocated love, she chose to focus on her father's company and watch it develop. It was an arranged marriage; it was only her fault for expecting something more.If they were to attend the dinner, her father might notice their strained relationship. It was better he never found out about the truth.“Why do I feel like something is going on?” Luke asked, slightly worried, “Tammie, is everything okay?” he asked, holding her hands in his. When Tammie had brought up the idea of having a marriage, he was slightly worried about her. He never wanted her to rush into anything, but it seemed like she loved the man called Collins.Luke never had the chance to have a decent conversation with his son-in-law due to his illness, and now that he was better, Tammie was making excuses, using his work ethic to keep him in place.Tamm
CHAPTER 26Tammie couldn't wrap her head around the fact that Collins had slept on her bed last night with his arms tightly wrapped around her waist. She could still feel the hardness of his chest, how warm his arms felt, and his intoxicating scent still lingered in the air.Collins was so perfect, he could be referred to as a Greek god.Tammie tightened her grip on her fork and raised her head to take a peep at him. She had confronted him this morning, but he simply shrugged and called it a mistake. With each passing second, she found his actions even more strange.Collins carefully replied to some emails while having a glass of coffee, “Have you had enough?” he asked, his gaze still fixed on his phone.Tammie's fork dropped to the table as a short gasp escaped her lips, “Had enough of what?” she blurted out, picking up her fork, “Haven't even started.”Collins pressed his lips together and smiled, “Then continue staring then.” he said, downing the rest of the coffee before leaving f
CHAPTER 25“Mia, this place is beautiful!” Tammie squealed, wrapping her arms around her best friend. Her gaze traveled across the flower shop—the ivy plants and the silk arrangement of flowers in their vases. Tammie closed her eyes, inhaling the sweetness of greenery, soil, and petals, “this must have cost a fortune.” she smiled, tracing a rose with the tip of her fingers.Mia crossed her arms and smirked, “spent all my life saving on this shop.” she said, taking slow strides towards some vases to clean them, “I hope I'll start making sales.”Tammie sat down on a small couch and closed her eyes to relax, “I know you will.” she smiled, licking her lips, “This place is magnificent. I got mesmerized immediately when I stepped in.” she said, proud of her best friend.Mia just got into town a few weeks ago, and now, she was about to start making a living. Most girls of her age would continue living off their parents, but Mia was the independent type. Fierce and bold. Not afraid of anythin
CHAPTER 24“Are we there yet?” Sandros asked, staring at his fingers as his driver stepped on the accelerator, speeding down the highway. The breeze ruffled his hair, caressing his scalp and a smile slowly appeared on his face, “Hurry. I need to make a deal with Olivon.” he said, closing his eyes to relax.A few minutes later, the car came to a stop at a popular nightclub. Sandros' subordinate alighted from the car and helped him with the door. Sandros placed a foot on the ground before placing the other, “get the stuff.” he ordered, smoothening his crumpled shirt. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lit one up, “Don't waste my time, Matthew.”Matthew jogged, opened up the car trunk, and pulled out the stuff. He held the suitcase protectively, checking left and right as he walked after Sandros. His master, Sandros, should be referred to as the most ruthless man in the whole city. He was cruel, heartless, and most importantly, thirsty for more wealth. He was extreme
Chapter 23Tammie watched as Collins strolled in with a journal in his hands, but like always, she ignored him and continued brewing her coffee. His actions yesterday had surprised her, and the fact that he got jealous over a man's jacket alone was annoying. She mixed her coffee with a spoon and walked towards the couch, “You're back.” That was all she said, and Collins nodded stiffly, still thinking about the first sentence written in that journal. He felt like Wills was giving him a chance to settle things with his wife and improve their relationship, but how was that supposed to help him sleep better? He inhaled a deep breath and walked towards her, “Do you feel better?” his cold voice warmed Tammie up and her grip on her cup tightened. She took some mouthfuls of the coffee and flashed a smile, “As you can see, I'm quite alright.”Collins nodded before ascending the stairs, his lips pressed together in deep thought. He placed the journal on his bed, and loosened up his tie, before
Chapter 22For ages, we've been told that the monsters are underneath our beds, hiding in the darkness only to come out during our rest time. However, as Collins grew, he realized there was no such thing as a monster beneath the bed.The real monster was locked up in his heart, haunting and terrorizing him during the nighttime. The gruesome memories and the torturous past were his monsters, the vulnerable part of him he so much wanted to hide from others. In a white room, Collins crossed his legs and leaned backward, closing his eyes as he listened to Wills’ rants,“I’ve told you countless times, only take two pills whenever you're about to sleep!”“You've been feeding your body with so much that now you're addicted.”“Now, the pills no longer work for you.” Wills spat, his body trembling from anger. He was Collins' therapist for several years, but Collins was still fighting the same battle, unable to overcome his nightmares due to a traumatizing event that happened several years ago.
Chapter 21“Ginger and garlic soup.” Collins forced a smile and scooped some soup with the spoon, “You're down with a fever. You need it to get better.”Tammie's eyes widened in shock at the sight of Collins. He was sitting next to her, smiling like nothing ever happened. The distasteful smell of garlic wafted into her nose and she groaned, turning away, “What happened to me?” she asked softly, her voice strained as she leaned on the wall, “And why are you here?”Collins simply stared at her, the soup turning warm, “You fainted while having a bath.” His words echoed in her ears and she trembled, her gaze traveling down her legs. She swallowed nervously and stared at her exposed arms, “What the hell happened?” She shrieked, fear evident in her features, “Did…did you carry me in here?”“Were you expecting the butler to carry you instead?” Collins asked with a chuckle, “Or you expect me to allow you to drown?” He placed the spoon back in the bowl and raised the whole bowl, “Would you ret
