After King Kaiden dismissed all of them, Odessa walked to her room with a heavy expression.
She could not stop thinking of what Victor was planning to do. She had been with him for a while, and she was aware of what he could do. 'Do you know what he is planning to do? He easily agreed to have a paternity test,' Her wolf questioned. 'I have no idea,' Odessa shook her head negatively. She took a seat on her bed while biting her fingernails. 'I only hope everything works out fine,' her wolf mentioned, and she nodded in agreement. She sat on the bed, she felt on edge. She could not stop biting her fingernails; she was distressed. She was suddenly jolted by the knock on her door, her entire body tensed up immediately as she heard the knock. “Come in,” she swallowed, before responding. Her body had goosebumps as the person who was at the door came in. She heaved a sigh once she saw that it was a maid. “Princess Eira requests to see you,” the maid informed, and her body jolted as though an electric spark had passed through her body. “I will be right there,” she replied while swallowing; her hands took a fistful of the bedsheets as her breathing turned shallow. “She said I should bring you to her, that means you would have to accompany me,” the maid stared at her with a distasteful look, wondering why her lady could have such a low-class friend. Well, it seemed the maid had also forgotten that she was also a low class. “Is that so?” Odessa questioned, and the maid nodded. “Then let's go,” Odessa decided to face Eira. Since her friend had asked to see her, then it was not nice to keep her waiting. Odessa and the maid walked around the maid's quarter before finally reaching a garden. “Princess Eira, she is here,” the maid announced and only left after Eira had nodded towards her. “Eira,” Odessa called out with a small smile. Looking at the poised look on the lady's face, she forced a smile on her face. “Odessa, I have been looking for you for a while now, come, have a seat,” Eira was enthusiastic as she brought Odessa to have a seat. Odessa smiled, but the smile did not reach her eyes. She suddenly felt guilty, and she had no idea why she felt that way. “Do you recall when we first met each other?” Eira asked as she looked up towards the starless night, a smile still on her lips. Eira mentioned many things and the times they spent together. “I am sorry,” Odessa suddenly apologized, catching Eira off guard, as she turned to look at her with a baffled look. “Why did you apologize all of a sudden? You have not wronged me, have you?” Either she was a good actor, or she was being genuine, but Eira had a completely clueless look on her face. “I have not been a good friend,” Odessa mentioned, as she held Eira's hands. Eira, in return, flinched. She was not expecting her to hold her hands out of the blue, so she was surprised. “Why do you say so? What have you been up to behind my back?” Eira asked jokingly, but her words caused Odessa's heart rate to spike. “N-nothing,” Odessa stuttered as she let go of her hands. All of a sudden, Eira's face brightened, and a sweet smile appeared on her face. Odessa looked at her, as she wondered why she had a smile on her face. “Eira, why are you smiling?” Odessa asked, she felt chilly at once. She had a bad feeling just by seeing the smile. “You are foolish, do you know that?” Eira mocked her. She was surprised, as she pointed to herself, confused, “Me?” “Yes, you!” After Eira said those words, Victor appeared out of nowhere. She gasped out loud, as her breathing became rushed. She looked at Victor, who stood beside Eira, who was already standing. “What.is.going.on?” She forced out those words because Victor had released his powerful aura, which made it difficult to breathe. “You think I would let you have a paternity test done? Then cause you to ruin my reputation, I will not allow you to do that,” Victor spat with a venomous look. Odessa did not need anyone to ask her to run, and that was what she did. But apparently, she was not fast enough as Victor easily caught her by her hands. She was pulled back, fell to the floor, and let out a yelp in pain. Victor and Eira laughed at seeing how helpless and vulnerable she looked while she was on the floor. “Why are you doing this? I will leave, I won't disturb you again, I will leave with my child, I will not disturb you both anymore, please let me off,” Odessa pleaded as she crawled backward. “I would have considered this, but now, the council members know that you are pregnant for me; I cannot let you off; you are like a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode,” Victor made an explosion with his hands and mouth for maximum effect. Odessa could only look on with a broken heart. She was frustrated, it wasn't clear to her why she was this unlucky. Why did the moon goddess bless her with a wicked and heartless mate, then make her meet with a friend who never considered her to be a friend? “Do you have it with you?” Victor looked towards Eira who happily brought out a stake. Odessa's eyes widened on seeing the silver stake, it was a weapon used to kill a werewolf. She did not doubt that she was going to die today, but she was unwilling. Thus, she struggled. She tried to stand to her feet, despite the pain in her leg as she had twisted it when she fell earlier. Victor frowned, seeing that she was about to run away. Subsequently, he chased after her, and he was able to catch her by her legs. As a result, Odessa was trapped, and she had nowhere to run to. “I will have to end your chapter today,” Victor snarled as he stabbed the stake in her chest repeatedly. As the stake stabbed straight into her heart, Odessa felt regret. Her eyes were covered with tears, as she prayed to the moon goddess. 'If I ever return, I promise to make your life a living hell,' she vowed before finally breathing her last. ****** Odessa woke up gasping. She sat on the bed, her hands placed on her chest, the same spot in which she had been stabbed. "Odessa, you are finally awake, are you okay?" She heard a familiar voice, and she quickly snapped her head toward the source; her body shook with surprise, seeing who it was. It was Princess Eira's father. Why did he look so worried for her sake? Could she have been saved? Different questions ran through her mind. She held her chest, but she could not feel the hole that had appeared when she was stabbed. 'What has happened? Didn't I die?' She mused to herself, head lowered, she was confused about what had happened. "It seems the fall has affected your thinking; I will get the healer, daughter, stay safe, I will be right back," her 'father' said to her and left the room. "Daughter?" Odessa mentioned, with a face filled with surprise. The King stared at his little princess with a worried expression. He scooted closer to her, but Odessa quickly backed away. This man was the father of the witch that had killed her, she'd be damned if she let him come close to her, dream or not. Moon Goddess! What fucking game are you playing this time?Odessa scowled when she felt a pricking pain in her heart at the sight of pain in the eyes of the King. “You must have hit your head badly when you fell. I knew I should never have allowed you to venture out alone.” The King said with sadness. His princess was the only thing of joy in his life and even now, she was avoiding him like a plague. Odessa looked around the room she'd woken up in for the first time and her jaw almost detached from her head. This is not a bedroom! She thought to herself. Her gaze roamed the entirety of the bedroom. Different shades of purple and white damask hung from one part of the wall to the other. ‘Is that…Is that a freaking gold and purple velvet ta
As soon as their gaze met, Odessa felt a sucker punch in the gut, and it felt like she was flying back to the past, back to the first time they met as mates, back to their first kiss, their first night out under the moonlight. This was her first time seeing him after her rebirth and she had to say, the feelings she was going through now were not what she was expecting. She'd imagined what her reaction would be when she met him for the first time, but this was nothing compared to it. There was no burning rage or boiling anger; there wasn't a need to claw his face off or pull his eyeballs out of their sockets. No, she didn't feel any of these things…she just felt calm and peaceful. Odessa had burned out all her pent-up hatred throughout the years, while she would not let him escape his punishment for what he did to her, she also wasn't so blinded by hatred that she'd make a move without thinking. Her father had taught her that the only way to bring down her enemies was by strategic
Odessa smiled, “So I have to come back with you to your palace right?” Victor eagerly nodded, today was going super great for him. He didn't even have to put in so much effort. “Of course.” “One year,” Odessa said. “Pardon?” Victor’s eyebrows raised in confusion. “I want to stay with my father for one year. You can come visit me whenever you like, but I won't be living in my kingdom for a year. Is that okay with you?” Odessa asked. Not that she cared anyway if it was okay for him. She had plenty of time to destroy him slowly but she needed to make sure she spent as much time as possible with her father. “No, of course not. I can't wait a year. It's too far.” Victor frowned. He has conjured up a future with the beautiful Odessa as his wife and Luna, standing by his side with the little time he had spent in the garden. It's funny how quickly a man has dreams involving a woman he only just met a couple of hours ago. Odessa nodded, “Fine.” Victor thought she would change her mind an
ODESSA’S POV“Amazing right?” Victor asked, standing too close to me but I was too immersed with admiring the palace’s beautiful structure to care. “Yes.” “Come on, let me introduce you to my father. He's been waiting all year.” Victor said. It wasn't until I looked down wondering why he had suddenly gone silent, did I know the reason. His hands were outstretched, waiting for me to place mine in them. It's one thing to avoid touching him and it's another to reject him. If I don't give him my hand, then I'll be rejecting him publicly. So I took a deep breath, patted myself on the back for choosing to wear a hand glove, and placed mine in his. As soon as our palms made contact, I was waiting for the stupid realization to happen, but it never did. Victor pulled me into the palace, and now, because of the different structure, there's no way I would know my way around the place. Bonus points. It’s like the universe is looking out for me. My mind was swirling with so many reasons as t
ODESSA’S POVNo…that can't be. What….what is happening?“Princess, is everything okay?” The guard asked, walking up to me. “That maid, the one that went into the Prince’s bedroom. Who is she?” I asked.“Oh, that's Eira. She's the Prince’s personal maid.” He said with a bow. I turned around fast to look at him. “Per…personal maid?” He nodded and I looked at the closed door again. What sort of crazy twist is this? How…“Princess…” The guard called out. “Let's…let's go. We have an engagement to prepare for.” I said, and Hugo led Evelyn and me to our respective rooms. Evelyn’s room was right next to mine with a connecting door for easy access. “Princess, you've been disturbed ever since we met that maid, Eira. Is anything the matter?” She asked with that soft accent of hers. I shook my head, “Nothing. It's just…I feel bothered by her presence.” That was a lie; I know for a fact that Victor and Eira are roughing it up in the sheets; I did the same thing with him, too. What I don't u
ODESSA’S POVMy legs, which had been playing and splashing around in the water, suddenly stopped. Without bothering to look at who had come to disturb my peace of mind, I continued playing in the water. “Ignoring me? That's a new one.” He chuckled and settled down beside me, kicking off his shoes as well. I wanted to turn to him and tell him that he didn't even know I existed in my previous world and now…“Should a King be seen sitting on the floor and playing by the pool?” I asked, my gaze fixed on the moon. “I'm a King. I can do whatever I want, even if it's to spend the entire engagement party with my son’s fiancee who looks unbothered by the fact that her future husband just went after his side piece.” I frowned and looked at him, his eyebrows raised as if he was urging me to say what was on my mind. “You're very talkative for a King.” I scowled and looked back to the sky. He laughed and replied, “My late wife once told me beautiful women bring out that side of me.” Minutes
ODESSA’S POV “Your Highness, isn't that your personal maid?” watching as Eira made her way to us. Victor looked at Eira as if he was just seeing her for the first time before he turned to look at me, laughing nervously and scratching the back of his neck. “Yes, she is. But she asked for a request and I decided to grant it to her because of her true years of service to me.” He said with a smile. “His Highness is so gracious and generous, even to his servants,” I said sarcastically. The King chuckled and Victor looked proud. “Princess.” Eira curtsied. “Thank you for your generosity, Your Highness. But I'd like to decline. I don't need your maid. I'll feel watched and monitored. Perhaps you're sending her to me so that she can be your own little spy.” I said, swirling my tea in one hand, not bothering to look at Victor or Eira. If both of them think I'm stupid enough to accept her, then they've clearly underestimated me.” “Your Highness, if I may speak,” Eira said, directi
AUTHOR’S POVOdessa tried to avoid the King for the remainder of the day, although it was harder than she’d thought because their little outing hadn't just been an outing. The King had gone into the town to visit the complaints he had been receiving for the past two weeks. And he was hoping he could test Odessa’s knowledge and skills that Prince Victor had been boasting about. Odessa ignored his gaze as much as she could, and she couldn't tell if the King realized it or not. But if he did, he didn't say a word about it. “This is the fifth time the roof has fallen in. Every attempt to rebuild it is futile. The family has had to move into the pack house whenever it rains to avoid casualties. What do you think we’re doing wrong, Princess?” Odessa gulped and the King smiled. Perhaps not to others, but to him, he could see every small reaction that her body made, especially when he called her Princess. Something in him fluttered knowing that she loved it. King Kaiden chastised himself f
