Chapter 2

BRITTANY'S POV

"It's the day of the hurdle. The both of you are supposed to dress your finest." My step mum shoved me gently, waking me up from my beauty sleep and I practically yelped.

I jumped from the bed when I saw Aria, my step sister lying on the bed close to me.

"Oh my goodness, Brittany. You startled me." Smiles were visible on her face and I just stared at her wondering what's going on. My gaze trailing at the entire room and back to her.

I'm supposed to be dead, precisely in the underworld now right? I thought to myself, fear, confusion and panic set in.

"What's today's date?" I questioned and Ariana yawned as she stood up.

"Today is the hurdle where we get to meet our mates, aren't you excited?" Aria asked, standing from the bed and I took a few steps away from her.

"Don't come any closer to me, you murderer." I snapped and I saw her expression contort in shock, fright and whatever emotion there was.

"Okay, that's it Brittany. Did you wake up from the wrong side of the bed? Your elder sister, Amelia is ready. The both of you girls should also get ready. As for you, Brittany, do well to fix your attitude." My stepmom enunciated and I nodded still staring at Aria suspiciously.

Something doesn't feel right. I'm sure this day has come and gone so does it mean I've been reborn? Given another chance by the moon goddess to correct my mistake?

If that's what this is then I'm supposed to make a very good use of it.

"That's so hurtful calling me a murderer but I'll forget about it. We'll have to test our dresses—"

"And be sure that purple is your color. As for me, I know that pink suits me well." The both of us said in jinx and she stared at me like she was going crazy.

That's exactly what she said the last time this day happened. I've been reborn and taken back in time, 1 year and 2 days back.

"Woah. Are we twinning? How did you know that was what I was going to say?" She squealed and I just shrugged walking into the bathroom

"Definitely not. You and I aren't twinning and I'm not going for the testing or hurdle with you, I can find my way around." I started and she stared at me like I had suddenly grown horns.

"What's wrong with you? You've been acting weird since you woke up." Aria asked and I paused in my strides. Turning to stare at her, I said;

"How is it weird trying to distance myself from a double faced serpent?" I questioned and she was mute starting with those inquisitive demonic eyes that had always made me go out of my way for her.

Never again.

Like I had said, I didn't go for the testing or hurdle with anyone. I went myself. I picked a different dress and did my makeup by myself.

"Oh my goodness, Brittany. What are you wearing?" I had shown up in a gothic black ball dress and all eyes had been on me ever since.

I was supposed to wear a flowery beautiful gown, anything that would attract a handsome mate by the way but showing in a cloth that looked like I was attending a funeral threw everyone off guard.

"My dress." I answered and my step mum patted my face a bit.

"Lighten up. It's beautiful anyways, just not what we were expecting but it's beautiful." I smiled and hugged my stepmom tightly.

She wasn't like others, she loved us all the same way like she birthed me. And this hug was me saying sorry for what I was going to put her devilish daughter through in this life.

"You're only finding your mate, you're not leaving me just yet." She patted my back before leaving me to blend in with the crowd.

I walked to the front and there I saw him standing with the young men of the pack. The narcissistic Alpha's son. He locked eyes with me for a second and smiled but heavens and hell forbid that I reciprocate his feelings.

LUIAN STONE. My very worst nightmare.

The hurdle had begun and wolves had begun to call out to their mates, scents were everywhere and I couldn't forget that vanilla scent that wafted through my nostrils as he approached me.

"You're my mate." He stated enthusiastically and everyone clapped at the fact that the Alpha's son had found his mate but I just raised a brow.

"I, Brittany Fangs, reject you, Alpha Luian Stone, as my fated mate." I yelled out and gasps filled the room.

"What? You barely know me, why would you do that?" He grabbed my wrist in anger and I winced.

"I don't want to get mated to a cheat." I yelled at him and he stared at me in confusion.

"What in the name of the goddess are you talking about?" The pain immediately hit me right in my heart and I gasped lightly hoping not to let a tear slip out of my eyes.

"Excuse me." I didn't bother him as I ran out hoping no one followed me, especially him.

I got into the woods and yelled, holding my chest as I fell to the floor. The pain was like nothing I had ever felt in my entire life, it was like I was standing between a thin line of life and death. The only thing it reminded me of was when Aria stabbed me in my past life and I think it did a good job at making the pain all the more hurtful.

"When you're done yelling, you can simply leave. I came here to enjoy some peace and silence." I heard a hoarse voice say and I looked up while that cool mint scent wafted through my nostrils.

"You have no right to tell me to leave, who do you think you are?" I yelled not knowing how to react with all the pain overwhelming me.

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Lycan Aldar Night-Shade." Time paused for that moment as I realized I had just raised my voice at the infamous get famous Lycan king. The young lad who had risen to the top even when older men were still Alphas.

And there was every probability that he was my second chance mate.

"Lycan Aldar Night-Shade? The Lycan king Aldar." I questioned in disbelief and he just shrugged.

I mean, he must be lying. He had to be lying.

"Is it too hard to believe that I'm an Alpha, little one?" His voice was dry and groggy but I wasn't even paying attention.

I was fidgeting, if the rumors about him were true then i was in a lot of trouble for disrespecting him.

"No it's just that. I mean...shut up." I slapped my head when I couldn't even put my words together while staring at him.

"It's just?" He raised his brows and I shook my head abruptly.

"It's just that, I mean I've heard that the Lycan king was young but I didn't expect someone this young." I hope that didn't come off as an insult.

"How young or how old did you expect?" He asked and I couldn't decipher the tone in his voice. I wasn't sure if he was already getting angry or if he was trying his best not to get aggravated and snap his head in two.

"Mate." I couldn't stop myself from saying it but thankfully I only whispered it so he probably didn't hear.
