Chase's POV
A few years ago.
"You!!!!!" An old woman covered in cuts and blood screamed at the top of her voice. "Look at all this bloodshed, all for what?" She asked with eyes filled with pain and agony, pointing at the bodies laying lifelessly on the ground.
"You have shed the blood of these innocent people, my people, for nothing. They never did anything to you or your bastard Alpha but you still killed them in cold blood," She added, her voice laced with hatred as she spoke to me.
I looked at her with eyes void of any emotion. I walked towards her under the heavy pouring rain which was mixing with the blood of the witches who died from our attack.
Their bodies lay there lifelessly on the floor like designs for a painting. I got to the silver witch and looked at her. Pity flickered in my eyes, but only for a second as it was replaced with the usual cold eyes filled with no form of emotion.
The old witch looked at me, scanning and assessing me from head to toe, disgust written all over her face, "What has he turned you into? Look at you, Chase. A man of great destiny wasted into nothingness," she spat with tears in her eyes but I still didn't say a word.
''You're mad Chase. MAD! "She shouted at the top of her voice before coughing out blood.
I was beginning to get bored of her little chat and elongated my claws ready to kill her. With increased speed, I walked over to her and wrapped my hands around her neck, choking her.
”Kill me, Chase, do it. Kill me and become the Alpha of your pack," she coughed before continuing, "For ending the lives of innocent people without any valid reason except your bloodlust, I curse you.”
I could feel the aura around her changing, the winds began to form an eerie circle around us, but it mattered less to me as she would die soon.
"For you have separated mates, killed children, captured us into slavery. Chase, you shall be…” Before she could finish her sentence, I plunged my left hand into her body, grabbed her heart, and brought it out immediately.
She gasped for breath and fell to the floor with a thud after I released her neck. I looked at her with eyes filled with anger and hatred. I looked back at the heart in my palm, squeezed it, and threw it beside her. I turned my back and was about to walk away when I heard her.
"….mateless till the end of time," she said and breathed her last.
I turned back and looked at her as she said those last words, shed her last tear, and breathed her last.
I looked at her with pity over her poor soul, having no regard for the so-called curse she seemed to place upon me. I changed into my huge wolf and ran off to the rest of my men who were holding the captives.
Present Time, Crescent Moon Pack.
I sat down in my office staring at the files in front of me.
"Come in,” I replied as I heard a knock on the door which disturbed my thoughts.
"Good day Alpha,” Simon, my beta and the right-hand man said with his head low.
”The young captives are ready. It's time for the selection. Should we proceed or….” he asked and I cut him short.
“I'll be there shortly,” I said to him and he walked out.
Every two years, after the great war, a crucial process called "The Selection" takes place. It involves identifying and classifying the prisoners of war based on their abilities and skills.
Those who possess the physical and mental strength required for combat will be trained as formidable warriors. The young women will either be offered as consorts for the deserving or assigned to perform various tasks to support the pack, while the young men will have the opportunity to learn skills that will serve the pack in the future.
I got up from my table and walked towards the arena where the selection will take place. I wore a long-sleeved black shirt with the top buttons open and pants, then I walked graciously to the arena.
As I stepped into the arena, it became so silent. I could hear everyone's breathing and even the slightest movement. They all stood up and bowed as a sign of respect to their Alpha. I walked to my seat and signaled for them to proceed.
Excitement filled the air as the highly anticipated selection commenced. Five hundred captives stood before their pack leaders, awaiting their fate. With a command, they were ordered to transform into their wolf form, a breathtaking display of strength and power.
After a rigorous assessment of their confidence, strength, aggressiveness, discipline, agility, bravery, and other essential qualities, 300 captives successfully advanced to the next stage. It was a remarkable achievement, but they still needed more training to become elite warriors of the pack.
Meanwhile, the remaining 200 captives were assessed for their skills in various tasks by the Beta and Gamma, who were entrusted with such matters. Although it was not of much interest to me, The Alpha, as my focus was solely on the warriors' selection.
As the selection came to a close, my attention was captured by a lone figure, dressed in rags and pushed to the back of the line by her peers. My, usually as cold as ice, stirred for a moment as I observed the tiny frame, and then reverted to its usual stony state.
"Who's she?" I asked with my eyes fixated on her.
Without hesitation, the Beta and Gamma recognized the intensity in my gaze and immediately shifted their attention to where my eyes were fixed. None dared to pose any foolish questions, for they knew better than to interrupt my focus.
"Alpha, she is the daughter of Mira," Simon paused to look at me for any reaction on whether to proceed or not.
"Continue," I said with my eyes still fixed on the little girl in the open field.
”Mira lost her mate during the fight with the Blood Moon pack a few years ago. She died six years ago leaving her daughter behind. It is rumored that her daughter is a halfling as she has not turned into her wolf yet or is showing any signs of changing," Simon narrated and I dismissed him.
For the first time in years, I found myself sitting patiently, watching the selection process unfold before me. There was something about a particular girl that had piqued my curiosity, though I knew deep down that I would never see her again.
As the selection drew to a close, each captive was assigned their respective tasks. My mind was still preoccupied with thoughts of the girl, but I knew that I had to leave immediately to attend a business meeting in the human world.
As wolves, we always kept our identities a secret, and so we mingled with the mundane while keeping our true natures concealed. It was a delicate balancing act, but it was necessary to maintain the delicate balance between our worlds.
"Simon," I called out in mind-link, "Send those girls to me later," I ordered and he knew who I was referring to.
As soon as I stepped into my room, my eyes fell upon a stunning woman with milky white skin and long, blonde, wavy hair. She was dressed in revealing red lingerie and was sitting seductively on my bed.
As soon as she noticed me, she got up and started walking towards me, swaying her hips like a seductress.
"Oh, my dear Chase, how I've missed you," she purred, placing her hands on my bare chest and tracing patterns with her fingertips.
"You're late, what happened?" she asked, her voice dripping with desire.
"I have a meeting. We'll do this some other time," I replied, removing her hands from my chest.
"So your meeting with those wretched creatures is more important than spending quality time with me?" she exclaimed, her voice rising.
"Feina!" I snapped, grabbing her by the neck and pushing her against the wall with incredible speed. "You might be my fiance and mate, but never talk to me like that! I am your Alpha."
I could feel her trembling with fear as she looked into my eyes, searching for something she couldn't find. My eyes were dark and void like the abyss.
After a moment, I released my grip on her, and she started panting, trying to catch her breath. Her neck was red from the pressure I had applied while holding her.
"Get that sorted out," I told her, referring to her neck. "I'll see you later," I said coldly before turning and walking out of the room.
"Get me some formal clothes and prepare for the meeting," I mind-linked Simon as I made my way to the car. It was time to leave and attend to my responsibilities as the Alpha.
As a halfling, living in the Crescent Moon pack has not been easy. We halflings tend to get bullied by the purebloods. We get treated like low-class citizens. Purebloods are indigenes of the pack and they are the first class citizens followed by the halflings of purebloods and then purebloods from the captives. They are second-class citizens. We, the halflings and slaves, are low-class citizens. Selection for us always has a specific end. We always get low-class jobs like cooks, drivers, and cleaning jobs in and outside the pack territory because we are hard to detect by the humans so it will be easy for us to blend in. At the end of the selection, since I was of legal age, I was assigned to assist the healers by getting herbs and doing menial work for a wage. The selection just ended and I was joining the line but the others kept pushing me around. "Hey, move it, get lost weakling…" they said but I never fought back. "Ouch," I hissed in pain as I fell to the floor. Someone pushed
My heart pounded so loudly in my chest that I was sure Mimi could hear it. I stood frozen outside the room, unable to move. Every terrible possibility of what could happen during my stay with her ran through my mind. I felt a lump form in my throat and tears pricking my eyes. I didn't want to be here, not with her. With shaky legs, I finally stepped into the room, hoping to go unnoticed. Luckily, there was a demarcation between our spaces, which gave me a sense of relief. But just as I was about to reach my side, I felt a sudden push, and I fell to the ground with a thud."Hey bitch," Mimi's voice was laced with venom. "What are you doing here?"My head spun, and I winced in pain. "I...I'm your roommate," I managed to stammer. She crouched down and grabbed my hair, causing a fresh wave of pain to course through me. "I said, what the fuck are you doing here, bitch?"I couldn't find my voice, so I just cried quietly. She finally let go of my hair, and I stumbled to my feet."My space is
Royal's POVI stumbled backward, my heart racing. I couldn't believe Mimi would go this far, but I knew better than to underestimate her."What are you doing? Stop!" I cried out, grabbing onto the window to steady myself.Mimi walked away, leaving me alone with my thoughts and the shattered remains of my locket.I heard her laugh maniacally and I couldn't help but feel a surge of anger and rage coursing through my veins. But I knew that fighting her was not an option. I would only end up in the hospital, or worse. As I stared out the window, I couldn't help but feel a sense of despair wash over me. Without the locket, I felt like I had lost a piece of myself. But I wasn't going to let Mimi get the best of me. I took a deep breath and resolved to get my necklace back, no matter what it took. With a newfound determination, I quickly made my way out of the room and down the stairs, scanning the ground below for any sign of my beloved locket. As soon as I heard the door close, I immediate
Alpha Chase's Pov The past few weeks had been hectic, from attending human meetings for my businesses to dealing with pack issues and challenges as the Alpha. After I sent the girls I picked from the selection to be groomed, I was too busy to visit them or monitor their progress as I left it all in the hands of my Beta. I haven't informed them of what I needed them to do but I planned on addressing that today. After a long day of pack meetings and discussions, I arrived at my home, the six-story pack house. As I stepped into the pack house, I immediately noticed the tension in the air. The pack members were gathered in groups, whispering to each other and glancing nervously at me. I could sense their fear and uncertainty. Once they noticed my presence, they all became mute and I knew something was wrong, and I quickly made my way to my office. As I opened the door, I was met with a sight that made my blood boil. My elder brother, Ryan, was sitting in my chair, his face twisted wi
Alpha's Chase's Pov "The girl, the halfling, I don't know where she is," he managed to say and I groaned in frustration. "Ryan, what are you doing here?" I asked, trying to keep my voice calm. "I heard about the halfling," he replied, stepping out of the shadows. "I came to offer my help." I raised an eyebrow in surprise. Ryan had lost the Alpha title to me a few years ago, and he'd never been one to offer help without expecting something in return. "What's the catch?" I asked suspiciously. "No catch," Ryan said, holding up his hands in a gesture of innocence. "I just want to help. The halfling is important to our pack, and we need to find out what happened to her." I hesitated for a moment, considering his offer. Ryan and I had never gotten along, but if he was telling the truth and wanted to help, I couldn't afford to turn him away. "Fine," I said finally. "But don't expect me to trust you completely." Ryan nodded, and we set off to find out what had happened to the halflin
Alpha Chase's Pov My heart sank at his words, and anger boiled inside me. "Heavens know I would find whoever caused this," I gritted. Who would do such a thing? And why? My mind raced as I tried to come up with answers, but none seemed to make sense. "Can't you do anything to save her?" I asked the doctor, my voice impatient. "I am going to do everything I can," he replied, "but the poison has already spread too far. I'm sorry, but I don't think there's much hope." I looked at the girl lying on the bed. She looked so fragile, so innocent, and yet someone had deliberately harmed her just like I wanted to but who got to get before me? "Such a weakling. Despite your powerful family background you still could not defend yourself," I spat at her half lifeless body. I rolled my eyes, feeling nonchalant about her health although wanted her to die, but by my hands. "Take her away! If you treat her and she recovers then fine, you can bring her back to me. But if she doesn't, give her a
In the Hospital. Trying to find another way to save the girl, the doctor left. Suddenly, the machines monitoring Royal's vital signs began to beep loudly, indicating a sudden drop in her heart rate. The doctors and nurses rushed to her side, trying desperately to revive her, and after a long time of trying and trying, she was breathing again but still unconscious. The doctor, frustrated by the turn out of events and unsure of what to do placed a call to the Alpha to inform him of her condition but he didn't pick up the call. After hours of trying to reach the Alpha with no response, he decided to call the Beta, hoping to get a response from him. "Beta Simon, I'm the doctor treating the halfling from the pack house. I have news on her," he paused hoping for the Beta to say something before he continued. The Beta's voice crackled through the phone, "Yes, Doctor. What news do you have?" "I'm afraid her condition has worsened, and we're doing everything we can to keep her stable,
In the hospital. The doctor took a deep breath and pushed all his doubts aside. He knew that he couldn't let his fear hold him back from doing what was right. He had taken an oath to serve and protect all those who needed his help, and he wasn't about to break it. With a steady hand, the doctor injected the antidote into the girl's arm and waited anxiously for any signs of improvement. In a short while, the girl's breathing became less labored, and color returned to her cheeks. The doctor let out a sigh of relief, knowing that the antidote was working. He went into his office and his phone rang a few minutes after. It was a strange number and the doctor knew it was the anonymous man from earlier. "Hello, Doctor. How is the girl?" the man asked. "She's doing much better now, thanks to the antidote you provided. I can't thank you enough for your help," the doctor replied. "I'm glad to hear that she's improving. But there's something else you need to know," the man said, his voice
