"Speak Simon. I'm waiting!”

Simon took a deep breath before continuing, "We have reason to believe that the leak did not come from the halfling. After conducting a thorough investigation and reevaluating the evidence, we've discovered some inconsistencies that indicate Royal might have been framed."

"What?” I yelled, turning to face him. "Are you serious?" I asked and he nodded.

My heart sank at the revelation. If what Simon was saying was true, it meant we had banished an innocent member, and possibly my own mate, and carried my unborn child, without just cause.

For the first time, guilt and regret clawed at my chest, and I felt angry and sorrowful at the same time.
