Chapter 64

Shannon opened her eyes and flashed a radiant smile at Lucas. Her face was devoid of color.

Three more hours passed before Josie's surgery concluded.

When she was wheeled out by the nurse, she was still lying unconscious with bandages on her head.

As they returned to the ward, Shannon clung to Lucas, who didn't push her away but supported her with one hand.

The nurse and an aide moved Josie onto the bed.

Josie slept peacefully.

After that, Lucas instructed his assistant to take Shannon home.

Shannon suddenly hugged Lucas. As she rested her face on his chest, she softly said, "Luke, text me when Josie wakes up."

"Okay, go back now." He subtly pushed Shannon away.

With red-rimmed eyes, Shannon nodded and left with Lucas' assistant.

Lucas sat by the bed, not mentioning Chelsey's refusal to donate blood for his mother. Chelsey didn't offer any explanations either.

The ward was quiet, filled only with the sound of their breathing.
