He’s about to take my large body bag but I move it away from his reach.

The driver in front maneuvered the car and starts driving.

Tahimik kaming dalawa buong byahe.

Hello? Isn’t he excited? This is Maldives we are talking about!

I am on a vacation so I’m going to spend the most out of it. Kung ayaw niyang mag-enjoy ay bahala siya. Basta ako… I’ll make myself happy for the rest of the trip.

But then again… I remember that I have a mission to make him fall for me. Hindi dapat ‘yon nawawala sa isip ko.

I open my eyes and turn my head, only to see him still reading his case studies.

“Don’t you feel tired, Dr. Ricaforte?” malambing kong tanong na siyang nakakuha ng atensyon niya.

Kunot noo niya akong tinignan. Ngumiti ako sa kaniya.

“Do you want to sleep?” tanong ko ulit sa kaniya.

“Just call me Zac. We are already married so there’s no need for formalities…” aniya at bumaling na ulit sa binabasa.

Ngumuso ako. I cross my legs and look at the other side.

But then I suddenly feel a hand moving my head away from the headboard and put a round neck pillow around my nape. Napatingin ako sa katabi ko. Zachary is looking at me as he fixes the placement of the neck pillow on my shoulders.

“I’m sorry for not noticing how uncomfortable you were awhile ago when you’re taking a nap. If you want to sleep again, you can rest your head here…” aniya sabay tapik sa kaniyang balikat.

He looks at me with his innocent eyes. Oh my gosh! Is he a kid? He looks like a kid!

“You know what, Zac…”

“What?” he innocently asks.

I chuckle.

“I like you.”

I can’t stop smiling so I just put my head on his shoulder just like how he suggested it.

I didn’t sleep. I intentionally rested my head on his shoulder the whole time we’re traveling to the airport.

“Can I sit beside the window?” tanong ko kay Zac nang makasakay kami ng eroplano.

“Alright,” simple niyang sagot.

“Thank you!” masigla kong sabi at dumiretso na sa seat naming dalawa.

“Can I ask you something?” si Zac.

Natawa ako. “Only if you stop asking me for permission if you want to ask something,” pang-aasar ko sa kaniya.

“It’s called courtesy, MJ,” aniya at inirapan pa ako.

When we were still dating, he used to call me by my full name except for my last name. But now… it’s probably the first time I hear him call me that. He called me the way my parents used to call me.

“What do you want to ask?” tanong ko sa kaniya para ma-divert ang isip ko.

“We were supposed to use your family’s private plane, right?

“You asked for a downgrade because you know I don’t like how expensive it is?”

“Oo?”

Naguguluhan na ako.

“Paano mo nalaman ‘yon?” tanong niya pa.

I cross my legs and stare at him. His face flushes in red once more.

“Just an intuition,” pa-cool kong sabi.

I hear him tsk-ed. For some reason, he looks incredible shy but pissed.

We checked-in at the hotel we’ll be staying for the whole week of our honeymoon. The room has two bedrooms, a living area, and a common bathroom. Bukod pa ‘yong each bathroom ng dalawang k’warto.

But Zachary is making a fuss about it. The romantic suite has only one bedroom and one king-sized bed plus the other features of the room. At kung tutuusan ay mas makakamura kami kung iyon ang naisipan kong piliin compared sa dalawang suite or sa deluxe suite since their promo for it is still on-going especially now that we are on our honeymoon.

I scoff and grab all my things so I can already put them inside my room.

The veranda of the deluxe suite we are staying is actually connected to both our bedrooms. Meaning to say, our bedroom are actually connected to each other through the veranda. I don’t know if what I’m saying is making any sense but that’s it. I’m into jewelries and not house interiors so how would I know?

Anyway, I take a quick shower and then I blow dry my hair after. I put on my two piece swim suit and an almost see through laced-dress.

“Are you seriously going to work the whole week of our honeymoon, my love?” tanong ko gamit ang nanunutyang boses.

I smirk as he turns his head to see me.

“If you want to have fun outside, then go,” malamig niyang sabi. “I still have some work to finish, susunod na lang ako…” dagdag niya pa.

Ngumuso ako at mas lumapit pa sa kaniya.

“I’ll wait for you…” matigas kong sabi.

I watch him as he continues working. I can’t quite figure out what his work is all about because of the terms I’m not familiar with but the way he works is telling me how passionate he is with what he pursued. Why medicine?

Should I ask him?

“Dr. Ricaforte—”

He cuts me off.

I clear my throat. “Okay, Zac, baby…”

I laugh and put both my hands in the air, surrendering. “Okay, I’m sorry!” I was still chuckling, though. His face looks so funny and cute.

“You are always serious. Why don’t you smile for a little bit, hm?

“There’s nothing to smile about especially when someone’s pestering you like what you’re doing to me,” seryoso niyang sabi at ibinalik ang kaniyang tingin sa ginagawa.

Nalaglag ang panga ko sa sinabi niya. Me? A pest? After I admitted that he has a baby face?

He’s wearing a white unbuttoned polo, revealing his perfectly lean toned body, and a pair of black swimming trunks. Nakasuot din siya ng sunglasses. Parehas pa kami ng brand ng salamin.

Tss.

“Can you please move away?

“I told you to wait for me,” aniya.

“And why would I do that? I just did you a favor, right? I did you a favor,” malamig kong tugon.

“I ordered us food. You should eat.

I don’t know why but there’s really something with the way he calls me by my three names.

May hawak siyang plato na may lamang burger salad—my favorite.

It’s a chateau margaux wine—also my favorite.

I eye him suspiciously. It seems like he’s trying to appease me by ordering my favorite food and drinks.

His brows rise in curiosity. He really looks like an innocent kid despite his age. His baby face is really insulting me.

“Do you want to swim?” tanong niya pagkatapos kong maubos ang wine ko.

“Pagod na ‘ko. I can just do that tomorrow,” sabi ko habang umiiling.

Tumango siya. “I’ll swim later.

“You don’t have to. I can go inside on my own.”

Umiling siya. “Ihahatid kita.” I can hear the finality in his tone.

“I’ll just swim,” pagpapaalam niya.

I chuckle and nod.

I have an email from my Klaus—my secret investigator I hired from my cousin, Gil. Klaus is just his code name. I ordered him to spy on Zachariah Ricaforte and find anything suspicious.

“So you still haven’t found anything suspicious at all?” tanong ko.

“Yes. I’m still following him, though. I don’t know the exact destination yet but he’s traveling south. Will update you again once I see something worth mentioning,” aniya sa matigas na Ingles.

“Alright.

Saglit akong nagpahinga bago sinimulang gawin ang ilan kong trabaho. I wanted to sleep a while ago pero nawala ang antok ko dahil sa naging update ni Klaus kanina. I wonder where the old businessman is going.

His skin is fair like mine so namumula mula ang kaniyang katawan dahil sa sinag ng palubog na araw.

My phone buzzes which make me tore my eyes off of Zac’s.

“How’s your honeymoon?” bungad niyang tanong sa akin.

“What do you want, Gil?”

She just got home and the first news she heard was you marrying her long-time crush.”

“Tell her to annul their marriage, brother! How dare she steal my future husband!” pagmamaktol nito.

I sigh. “A 2-year conference doesn’t fit the term ‘saglit’, Gil. And please, I wasn’t even aware that she personally knew my husband,” sabi ko, emphasizing the word ‘husband’ to piss my cousin off more dahil alam kong naka-loud speaker ang phone ni Gil.

“Wow. I didn’t know that you are the possessive type, cousin,” aniya na siyang ikinatawa ko nang mahina.

“You are such a slut, Jade!” ani Aeliares. I chuckle because I was actually able to piss her off more.

I shake my head as I put down my phone.

I almost jumped out of where I am sitting when I hear the door separating Zac’s room and the veranda opens and then closes.

“What—”

“You stopped swimming and went here… just to ask me that? Because I was talking to someone on my phone?” naguguluhan kong tanong.

“I asked you first, Marthania Jade Louise…”

“No one…” I say, wanting to tease him a little. Ngumiti ako.

I cross my arms against my chest and lean against the backrest of the sofa swing.

“You were laughing while talking to whoever that was and you’re telling me it was no one?”

“Are you jealous?” Pinigilan ko ang matawa.

“Who was it?” ulit niyang tanong. This time his tone sounds mad but still manages to stay calm.

“You’re jealous,” I conclude. Mas lumawak ang ngiti ko.

I can’t believe he’s actually acting like a jealous husband right now. What… Is he finally taking notice of me? Am I finally succeeding in distracting him? Is he falling for me now?

“Fine, don’t tell me,” pagsuko niya.

I chuckle as the sun sets. I think I win today.

“You can’t hear me?” Zachary said something again but I couldn’t understand it. Hindi ko iyon marinig. His lips were moving and I knew that he was speaking. Pero hindi ko iyon marinig. My ears are acting up again. It has been a while since something like this happened. I thought I would be okay but I was wrong. I forgot that I wasn’t fully healed yet. And now, it’s starting again. “What are you saying?” I asked despite not being able to hear what I said. “I’m sorry, my ears. I can’t hear...” I could feel my lips trembling. Hindi ko alam ang gagawin. I didn’t bring my hearing aids. Zachary came to me. Lumuhod siya sa harap ko. His eyes were worried and bloodshot. He looked like he’s pitying me. I suddenly felt awful. “I’ll rest now. I wanna be alone while I rest. You can sleep in the guestroom,” I told him. “MJ...” I read the movement of his lips. He was close to me which was why I was able to understand what he said. “I can’t leave you alone. Why are you asking me to leave you?

[ Zachary’s Point of View; A Flashback ] I was there when my sister died. I failed to notice her struggle and pain because I was too busy studying so I could gain our father’s approval. My little sister, Zoe, was my comfort. The very reason why I wanted to become a doctor. I wanted to cure her illness. But before I could even do that, she died. And it was because of my own negligence. “I’ve had enough of your defiance, Zachary. For once, I need you to do as I say. Marry the woman I want for you and I will let you continue your career. Defy me, and I will do everything in my power so you can never set foot in the medical field again!” That was my father’s bargain when I first told him that I would still continue my residency and my research. I didn’t want that. All of my life, I tried everything to make him proud. Even if it’s not from the field he wanted for me. I thought that if I became the best in my field, he would finally acknowledge all

“We can stay here for a few minutes more if you want…” Zachary said as he held my hand with his. Then I shook my head a little.“I already told them what I wanted to say. We can go now. I want to rest,” sabi ko.Tumango siya at mas hinigpitan ang hawak sa kamay ko.I feel so lucky to have him beside me. When he hugged me, I felt safe and comfortable, I never want to let go.When my parents died, I never experienced such a comforting love again. But with Zachary, I knew it was more than that. It was more than the love I felt when my family was still complete. Kahit ramdam ko ang kulang dahil sa pagkawala ng mga magulang ko, Zachary was able to easily fill its gaps with his gentleness. The day was over before we even knew it. Zachary and I rested the whole night and slept peacefully. I

“Are you sure you’re okay now? We can visit them tomorrow instead,” Zachary said as he helped me get inside our car, his voice like a fire that calms my soul in the midst of a cold winter. It was enough to soothe my heart. More than enough. “I’m okay. Let’s just go.” I smiled to assure him that I’m really fine. Habang walang tigil ang pag-iyak at paghikbi ko kanina sa office ng Daddy ko, Zachary was just there embracing me. He was like a soft pair of large wings that protects me from pain. And I realized that I became more and more dependent of him. I really have no idea if it’s a good thing or bad one. For once, I wanted time to stop. I wanted to stay in that moment. To keep him close to me. Before closing the door on my side, Zachary leaned down to touch my cheek, caressing them. He was looking at me with so much affection in his eyes I couldn’t help but want to drown in them. I held his gaze as

We arrived at the airport. There was an SUV waiting for us outside and we immediately hopped in.Tahimik kaming dalawa sa byahe. It was probably because of what we discussed back in the plane. We talked about my parents and his family. I told him that there was something I still wasn’t telling him. He respects everything. He respects my pace. He respects me.I don’t really know if I should allow myself to be this dependent on him. He’s not asking anything in return. It was so natural to him. Ang pakisamahan ako. Ang intindihin ako. Our differences were mode defined this time. I felt like I’m taking him for granted. No… I really am taking him for granted. He was so good at putting up with me and my shortcomings. I was so high-maintenance I

We were both panting after doing a lot of make love rounds. My body was already exhausted even before we stopped but I just couldn’t get enough of him. I was lying on top of him, still panting. I also could feel his heavy breathing. “Thank you…” he whispered. “For coming back to me.” I looked at him and kissed him again on his lips. I licked his lips and urged him to open up for my tongue. I kissed every corner of his mouth and he did the same. “We should shower and eat breakfast.” I chuckled after our kissing. Tumango siya at bumangon sa pagkakahiga, dala dala ako. Then he lifted me up and carried me all the way to my bathroom. Zachary was busy cooking some fried rice with spam and egg. After cooking, he placed t
