Alessia
I couldn’t get the image out of my mind. All night it had plagued me.
Aiden kissing that leggy brunette like his life depended on it. And I was raked with jealousy. Not that I had any right to the feelings assaulting me. He had asked me out for dinner that was true but we weren’t in fact dating. He had just done me a favour and been a gentleman.
Aiden didn’t owe me anything at all so I had no right to be jealous.
I was though.
And I hated the way it twisted my thoughts and -
A knock , so quiet that I almost missed it sounded from the other end of the room. It was early and Dana was still sound asleep. Glancing at the clock on the nightstand I frowned. It wasn’t even seven am so it was also too early for room service which I had booked for half eight.
Maybe it was just my imagination.
Someone knocked again. Slightly louder this time. With a grumble of Italian under my breath I swept the blankets from over me and padded bare foot towards the door.
Swinging it open a few inches I stared outward. Only there was no one there. The hallway in front was completely clear.
“Damn it.” Clearly it was my imagination. Sighing loudly I went to close the door and that’s when he stepped forward.
Aiden.
The sigh lodged itself in my throat. My mouth worked. Opening and closing like a fish out of water. The entire time he just stared at me with a smile curling up his full lips.
“Good morning.” He said like nothing had happened at all. Like I hadn’t been up all night tossing and turning and wondering what he was doing across the hallway.
It didn’t take a genius to know what he was doing. The real question was why he was now at my door.
“What are you doing here?” My hand tightened on the door and I moved it closed an inch. The last thing I wanted was him to see me in my pjs. Or what I called pjs anyway.
No doubt the woman he had left in bed would be in something sexy. Satin and lace probably. I didn’t own anything like that.
And even if I did I wouldn’t want him to see me in them.
“You didn’t pick up your phone. I was worried.” Reaching out he caught the edge of the door and swung it open. “I was shocked-“
“I turned my phone onto silence. I needed to think and I didn’t want to be disturbed.” That was at least half true. My phone had been on silent. With just a few people able to ring through. He wasn’t one of them.
“What are you doing here Aiden?” My voice shook and I hated that for me. I barely knew this man, we had only met yesterday so why did he effect me so badly
“I was just shocked to see you last night.” Self consciously he ran a hand through his dark hair.
“I see.” I got it now. He was here because he didn’t want his actual girlfriend to find about us. Straightening my shoulders I forced myself to smile. “You don’t need to worry about it.” Pointedly I looked over his shoulder to his hotel room door. “I’m not going to say anything. If it makes you feel uncomfortable than I can change hotels. I’m sure my dad would have found somewhere else for us to go-“
“Of course he has.” Aiden's voice dropped with sarcasm and darkness flickered into his eyes. There and gone in a blink of an eye. “Look, can we talk? In private.” Loosening his grip on my door, he reached for my hand and tugged me out into the hallway before I could tell him to get lost.
The door swung shut behind me. And he manoeuvred me against it. Trapping me there with his hands on either side of my head.
“Aiden.” Nervously I looked at his door. “You shouldn’t-“ I swallowed hard because he was far to close to me. And his very closeness pickled my brain. How could he smell so good?
“Why?” Cocking his head to the side, he studied me.
“Because your girlfriend-“ I started to say and my words died as he reached out and pushed my hair behind my ears. “Wouldn’t want her to come out and see-“
“She’s not in there Alessia.” He said quietly. “And she’s not my girlfriend either. I am single.”
I rolled my eyes. Yeah that’s what they all said.
Catching my look he chuckled. “You don’t believe me?”
“It’s none of my business.” I answered tartly. “Now I should get back to Dana. We have-“
He cut me off with a snarl. His hand slid under my hair to cup the back of my head. Drawing my face up so I had no choice but to stare into his face.
“It is your business because.” He stepped into my space. Pressing his body against mine so I had nowhere else to go. “I don’t want you to think I am that kind of man. She’s not my girlfriend. Yes I was on a date. The one and only and-“
“I don’t care.” I lied.
“Yes you do.” His thumb brushed against my lips. “I saw the shocked look on your face. I was shocked at seeing you here as well believe me. If you had picked up my call I would have explained last night.”
I stayed silent.
“I was set up on a blind date and she got wasted. Nothing happened after I saw you. I gave her a coffee and called her a taxi. We didn’t do anything.” He added again.
“It’s none of my business.” I said again.
“I see.” The smile he flashed my way was forced and strained. “But you see I want it to be your business Alessia. I really want it to be your business but maybe I’m wrong about this thing between us?” His eyes roved over my face and then downward. And when he smiled again it was softer. “At least I get to see what you look like first thing in the morning.” He added silently. “Even if it’s just once.”
“Aiden.” I blushed because no man should be looking at a woman in bear pjs with her hair sticking up in every direction the way he was. I crossed my arms around my chest which just drew his eyes downward to my cleavage.
“Alessia.” He parroted back. “Have breakfast with me.” Smoothing his hand down my arm, he encircled my wrist. “Let me prove to you that there’s no other woman in my hotel room and there won't be. There’s something between us that I want to explore.” He entwined our fingers and brought my hand to his lips. Brushing against the back of my hand softly. My heart skipped a beat. I closed my eyes.
“It’s the least I can do as I don’t think I can wait to take you out for dinner.”
“No.” My eyes snapped open. “I mean no thank you.” I added with a smile. “I don’t think that is a good idea.”
His eyebrows shot down. “Dinner then? I’ll make a reservation-“
My hand scrambled for the doorknob. “I mean no to all of it.” I added more forcefully. He had given me so many excuses as to who the woman was and why she was there but at the end of the day it didn’t really matter. I had seen his hands on her body and his lips looking for hers hungrily.
He could lie to me if he wanted to but that didn’t mean I had to believe it. I wasn’t experienced and worldly like Dana but I did have some redeeming qualities and coming from a family like mine I knew when someone was lying to me.
And Aiden was lying.
I was pretty sure he had been lying from the beginning. With his good boy charm and lilting accent.
“Thank you for helping me yesterday Aiden but-“
He took a step forward. Crowding me again. Each breath I took brushed my bra less breasts against the hardness of his chest.
“You won’t even give me a chance?” Dropping his head , his lips hovered an inch from mine. It took everything I had not to close my eyes and wait for his kiss because I knew that was about to happen.
My brain was screaming at me to push him away, but my heart? My heart wanted to know what his mouth felt like.
“There’s something between us Alessia.”
“I’m sorry but no.” Firmly I pressed my hands against his hard chest and gave him a little shove. Point one for head. “Thank you for everything you did Aiden but I don’t want to have dinner with you. There’s just too much going on in my life right now and I don’t have time for dating on top of that.” Finally my hand found the door knob and twisted. The door swung open and I stumbled backwards into my room.
I watched as his face morphed into shock. Then pain and what oddly looked like rage before I shut the door on him.
“What the hell was that all about?” Dana asked from the bed.
Taking a deep breath I turned to her. “I honestly have no idea.” I admitted.
“That was the man from yesterday right? Aiden?” She sat up in the bed. “Why is he here? How did he know we were here?”
“Because.” Climbing into bed with her I let my head fall onto her shoulder and told her everything. Well everything apart from the conversation with my parents.
“The fact he is here is just weird. Or maybe it’s fate?” She side eyed me.
“It’s weird.” I said firmly. This whole situation was just weird.
AidenPicking the crystal decanter in my hand I launched it at the far wall. Right next to the window which I was lucky I didn’t hit. I wasn’t sure it would have broken thanks to the safety glass but did I really want to risk it?“Are you done smashing things up or should I wait a while?” A familiar voice spoke from my phone on the bed. I turned to it and if I could have reached through the line and crossed the ocean between us I would have gladly wrapped my fingers around his throat and squeezed the laughter right out of his voice. Laughing at me even when I was in a good mood was a dangerous hobby , laughing at me in this rage was pretty much a death wish. “She said no.” I said again because I had a feeling he didn’t quite get it yet. Maybe he wasn’t really listening. So I would say it again and again until it sank into his thick head. “She fucking said no to having dinner with me.” I clenched my fists. “No one says no to me.”His laughter bubbled up even louder than before. “Has
Alessia“This is just what we needed.” Heaving myself out of the jacuzzi I followed after Dana , who seemed to have much more experience with hotel spas than I did.“It is and you just wait until-“ she swung open the door of what I was guessing was the sauna and froze. “Oh.” She said loudly. “Sorry I didn’t realise anyone else was here.”Confused I looked around her and it was my turn to freeze. Fuck.“No problem.” Aidens sultry voice was full of surprise. His eyes found mine and the surprise turned into delight. They twinkled with it. Beautiful even through the steam.“Plenty of room. Unless you ladies want the place to yourself.”Hell yeah I wanted the place to myself. There was no way I was going to be able to relax with him in there and looking the way he did.“No, of course not.” Dana moved into the room until it was just me standing there keeping the door open.“Plenty of room for all of us.” She continued. “Are you coming in , Alessia or are you just going to stand there?” Sh
Alessia We spent the rest of the day at the police station. They took statements and then double checked them. I didn’t know how much more I could tell them because I hadn’t been there.I had no clue what was going on.“You’re a Moretti.” The detective came back into the room, minus the drink he had promised me and sat down heavily on the other side of the table. He had a stack of papers in his hand which he kept glancing down at. “Yes. That is my name. Alessia Moretti.” I forced myself to smile. He didn’t smile back even though he had been all smiles and good natured charm right up until that point. “You’re family is -“I cut him off as Dana shot me a look from the chair next to me. “I know who my family is.”He looked between us. And realisation settled over his features like a mask. “I see. Is your family involved Alessia. Did something happen between you and the man -““You know who it is?” Dana’s voice shook. “Some low level thug, Irish parents but born here.” The detectives
AlessiaThe whisky was still burning down my throat when I used my keycard to let myself into my hotel room a few minutes later. I hated whisky but that wasn’t the reason I had left him in such a hurry. The last thing I needed was for alcohol to lower my guard around him. Because one more drink and I was probably going to do something stupid like climb him like a tree and beg him to take me.That couldn’t happen. It didn’t matter how alone I felt right now. I couldn’t just give myself to the first guy who came along. Even if they were beautiful and charming… And not single. Aiden “Fuck.” I tugged at my hair wish one hand as I stepped off the elevator and on to our floor. I’d tried to catch up with her but she had been quick so I’d had to take the next one. I was literally a minute or two behind her but Alessia was nowhere to be seen.“Fuck fuck fuck.” Striding down the hallway , I tried to figure out what I should do now. When she had turned up in the foyer all upset and needy I had thought my luck was in and then boom just like that she had gathered her wigs around her.The best thing to do would be to give her space. Is that her?” I asked. The man at my shoulder was leaning forward. His rank breath blowing across my face. I took a step away from him. I hated working with him and everyone knew it. He was an animal. And he always smelt worse than one. The breath from his lips was rancid., thanks to his rotten and crumbling teeth. His body odour wasn’t much better. And my nose wrinkled up. “Yeah” He shuffled closer still, giving me no choice but to hold my breath. “That’s her.” I watched as the girl moved across the college green. Her bag clutched to her chest and even from the distance that separated us I could tell she was pretty. Her blonde hair was whipping about her face as she hurried to get herself out of the rain that was coming down hard. “She’s a tasty little morsel, isn’t she?” I felt sick at his words. “She’s a kid.” I snapped before I could help myself. “She just turned nineteen, not exactly a kid. And that body.” He blew out a whistle and I almost gaged from the fumes. “Th
Allesia There were some things in college life that I could absolutely do without, and being in this bar was one of them. The only reason I was here at all was because she had dragged me. Dana had her eye on some mad who worked here , some beautiful , elusive older man with a roguish Irish drawl and come to bed eyes. Some guy she didn’t have a chance with but what kind of friend would I be , if I told her that and refused to be her wing woman? The crappy kind that’s what. And I was never that. “Jesus, it’s busy in here.” She elbowed her way to the bar. Not that she had to try that hard, Dana was beautiful and she knew how to show it off. Her curves caught every males eyes whether they were straight or not , women turned to stare at her beautiful face. But it was more than that , people liked to be around Dana because she was just a nice person. Sweet and kind.It was one of the reasons we got on so well because she thought I was like that as well. She thought I was a nice girl fro
AidenSipping my drink, I watched as she took her seat. Still in the clothes I had seen her in early. Her long blonde hair tied back from her face with only a few golden wisps to frame her face.It was a beautiful face , even more so close up. A pretty upturned nose , with its sprinkling of freckles that she didn’t try to hide with makeup and her full rose bud mouth. She looked like her mother when she was younger. I’d seen the photos of Alice Moretti before she dragged back into the darkness and I saw the same fresh faced innocence in her youngest daughter. But all of that sweet innocence was a lie. How could it not be? Most people might be fooled by her but I wasn’t. When I looked at Allesia Moretti, when I saw those dark brown eyes I saw her father. The ruthless man he was. The killer he was.Allesia might look like her mother but she had her fathers soulless eyes. The perfect mixture of both of them. Beautiful to look at but deadly. How could she not be? Both of her parents were

Alessia“Papa.” Softly I closed the bathroom door. Dana was sleeping fitfully on one of the two hotel beds because that’s where we were now.In a hotel in the centre of the city. Something swanky because Dana needed the distraction and I knew my father would go nuclear if he found out I had checked into anything less than five stars. And he had found out in less than hour which meant my parents were still tracking my bank accounts. Of course I kind of knew they would be.“What’s happened?” It was my fathers voice but not the voice he used around me: this was his work voice. “I just got an alert that you used your card to-“I sighed loudly. “We are perfectly safe papa, I am perfectly safe.”“And what exactly are you safe from?” His tone was dangerous and I could clearly picture him stalking back and forth in front of my mum. “What has happened?”“Start from the beginning.” Another male voice quipped and I knew that voice. Stefano my fathers right hand man was there and I was clearly on
Aiden I got us a taxi, insisting on it because Allessia was beside herself with worry thanks to her friends screaming.“Hey.” Reaching across the back seat I grabbed her hands in mine. Forcing them apart because she kept picking at her nails and wringing them together. “It’s going to be ok. Did you friend say what was wrong?”She shook her head mutely, tears making her eyes glitter and shine. They were literally swimming in tears but she wasn’t actually crying because no tears fell down her cheek.I reached for her cheek anyway. Rubbing my thing under her eye. “That’s a good thing. Everything is going to be fine. I promise.”Now that was a bare faced lie but only in parts. Things hadn’t gone entirely to plan because my little gift was meant to be for the woman next to me and not her roommate but it seemed the roommate had changed her schedule at the last minute and come home to find my little gift. Not to plan at all but it would have the same effect on the girl next to me. Allessia We didn’t end up going to McQuinns although Aiden did ask me to point it out before steering me down a narrow alleyway and into the smallest quaintest coffee shop I had ever seen.Looking around as he pulled out my chair I smiled. It was adorable and me in every way. I didn’t know how I had lived in the city for this long and missed it.“I can see by your face that you approve.” Taking the seat opposite me, he reached across the table for my hands and trapped them between his. Rubbing his thumb back and forth over the back of them. When he looked up at me his eyes were soft. “You’re not shaking anymore but your fingers are still cold. Are you sure you are ok?”Mutely I nodded. Not because I was in shock or scared any longer but because of the way he was looking at me. No man, not in my entire life, had ever looked at me the way this handsome stranger was.Men looked at me and felt lust. Their lust for me and for the power I promised them but with Aiden he looked at me and i
