Chapter 2

Aiden

Sipping my drink, I watched as she took her seat. Still in the clothes I had seen her in early. Her long blonde hair tied back from her face with only a few golden wisps to frame her face.

It was a beautiful face , even more so close up. A pretty upturned nose , with its sprinkling of freckles that she didn’t try to hide with makeup and her full rose bud mouth.

She looked like her mother when she was younger. I’d seen the photos of Alice Moretti before she dragged back into the darkness and I saw the same fresh faced innocence in her youngest daughter.

But all of that sweet innocence was a lie. How could it not be? Most people might be fooled by her but I wasn’t. When I looked at Allesia Moretti, when I saw those dark brown eyes I saw her father. The ruthless man he was. The killer he was.

Allesia might look like her mother but she had her fathers soulless eyes. The perfect mixture of both of them. Beautiful to look at but deadly.

How could she not be? Both of her parents were monsters.

She didn’t look like a monster though, she looked like a nervous girl. Not a woman but a girl. And even with her background I could see she was totally out of depth with the men she was sitting with.

Leaning back against the fake leather of the booth, I sipped at the whiskey and watched her over the rim of my glass.

This was going to be easier than I thought. I just had to find the right time to slide into her life. Not that I was in any rush. Allesia wasn’t going anywhere and she wasn’t as protected here as she would be back in the States.

My eyes flicked up again, only this time she wasn’t at the table. How had that happened? I had barely blinked and she was gone.

Stiffening, I swept my gaze over the crowded dance floor. More than once I thought I found her blonde head in the crowd only to find out it wasn’t hers.

Trying again I forced myself to breath, to not lose sight of the objective. I had found her once so I could find her again.  She wasn’t exactly hiding from me after all she didn’t even know I existed.

She would soon though.

Finally I found her, she was heading towards the toilets. And right behind her, close enough to touch was one of those men in their designer suits.

I was on my feet in a second. He was close behind  and maybe they were going somewhere together. Somewhere private. Somewhere I shouldn’t follow but I wasn’t about to sit back and watch some wanna-be take what was mine.

He would ruin her and that was my job.

Slipping from my seat I pushed my way through the crowd and into the dark corridor that led to the bathrooms. There was no sign of either of them.

Hesitating, I leant against the wall and waited. Maybe this was all innocent and they had just been heading in the same direction. Maybe I had it all wrong.

A noise, something banging against the wall and then a muffled sound like a scream clamped off by a hand over a mouth and I knew none of this was innocent at all.

Allesia was in there and so was he and by the sounds of it, she didn’t want him in there.

Pushing away from the wall, I moved towards the door. The sounds of struggling were louder now. Rage engulfed me.

What would have happened to her if I hadn't seen her leave with him? What kind of nightmare would he be raining down on her?

“‘Scuse me.” I slurred as I pushed open the door. Quickly I took stock of the situation. At the way she was pressed up against the row of sinks, her top was ripped, the first few buttons scattered so I could see her bra. But it was the wide tear filled eyes that stared at me beseeching from over her assailants shoulder that I couldn’t look away from.

That asshole had put tears in her eyes. Those pretty dark eyes that looked like her fathers were mine to fill with tears and no one else’s.

“You’re in the wrong toilet.” His accent was thick. An Irish drawl that was as fake as the designer suit on his back. “Leave.” He turned back to her. Fisting her hair in his hand he grabbed at her again with the other hand and tried to bring her lips to his.

“I think we are both in the wrong bathroom.” I stood there, completely casual , leaning against the closed bathroom door. “And she don’t look to into it.” I shrugged.

He whirled around , finally letting her go and she scuttled away. Backing away until her back hit the far wall. She glanced between the two of us. A line appeared between her eyebrows as she frowned.

“Leave.” I said softly. Parroting his words back. Only I wasn’t talking to him and she knew it. Allesia nodded, and rushed towards me. Her arms clenched tightly about herself to hide the ruins of her shirt.

Opening the door for her, I stopped her just before she could slip through and disappear. “You need to find better friends. Go straight home.” I ordered. I watched as she ran. Taking in the long blonde hair and the round ass perfectly encased in light blue denim.

Beautiful, that’s what she was. Earlier when I had first seen her I had thought she was just pretty but now? Now I had seen her up close and personal I knew I had been wrong.

Allesia Moretti was beautiful. Not that it mattered to the plan what she looked like. It would just make my enjoyment more to see tears in those gorgeous eyes when I ruined her.

“Do you know who the fuck I am?” Fake Irish bellowed, bringing my attention back to him.

Pausing I stared at the door and then I pulled it closed. Locking it behind me.

Slowly turning I smiled at him. The kind of smile that men pissed themselves to see. Sometimes my smile was the last thing they saw.

It was going to be the same with this man.

He blinked once, almost like he had just realised what had stepped into the room. He might not know my name but he knew what I was.

“I don’t give a fuck who you are.” I took a step forward. “The only thing that matters is that I know who she is.” I cocked my head to the side. Studying him. Watching as fear replaced the anger in his eyes. He knew he was in danger now.

“Look I don’t want any trouble-“ Holding up his hands he backed away until he couldn’t go any further.

“Too late.” I whispered and took another step. “You should have thought about that before you tried to take what is mine.”

Allesia “This came for you last night.” Dana threw the deep red roses on my bed without even a good morning. Scrambling backwards against the headboard to get away from flying petals , I stared at her. She looked furious. I just didn’t know why she was angry at me.“Um-“ I reached for the card that had fallen loose. “Thanks.” Not bothering to open the card, I continued to stare at her. “What’s eating you?”She blinked slowly and when she locked eyes with me again , I could see that she wasn’t just angry. She was furious. “You and him disappeared last night.” She left the words hanging between us. “And you didn’t come back.”I swallowed hard. “It’s not what you think.” And I was telling the truth even though I knew she didn’t believe me. “I went to the bathroom and felt sick.” Now I was lying but it wasn’t like I could tell her the truth. To do that would break her heart even more. Or even worse for me she wouldn’t believe me.I loved Dana like a sister and I knew I wouldn’t be able

Aiden She was three people in front of me. Her blonde ponytail bobbing as she walked with her coffee in her hand and a smile on her face. I knew about the smile because I had already circled around her twice without her realising. It was easy to do on the busy street and she wasn’t really paying attention anyway. Allesia was lost in her own thoughts. Was she thinking about the flowers I had sent her. I had been going to send her red spider lilies but that had just seemed too to the point. I didn’t want her scared and running to her family. I needed her charmed. It would make it easier for me.“Are you following me?”I started , my head snapped up to find her standing right in front of me. Surprised, I schooled my face into a confused smile.“Excuse me?”Standing there with her coffee in one hand and her other hand on her hip she continued to stare at me. “You’re following me.” She kept her voice low. Trying not to draw attention to us but failed miserably. People who looked like her

Allessia We didn’t end up going to McQuinns although Aiden did ask me to point it out before steering me down a narrow alleyway and into the smallest quaintest coffee shop I had ever seen.Looking around as he pulled out my chair I smiled. It was adorable and me in every way. I didn’t know how I had lived in the city for this long and missed it.“I can see by your face that you approve.” Taking the seat opposite me, he reached across the table for my hands and trapped them between his. Rubbing his thumb back and forth over the back of them. When he looked up at me his eyes were soft. “You’re not shaking anymore but your fingers are still cold. Are you sure you are ok?”Mutely I nodded. Not because I was in shock or scared any longer but because of the way he was looking at me. No man, not in my entire life, had ever looked at me the way this handsome stranger was.Men looked at me and felt lust. Aiden I got us a taxi, insisting on it because Allessia was beside herself with worry thanks to her friends screaming.“Hey.” Reaching across the back seat I grabbed her hands in mine. Forcing them apart because she kept picking at her nails and wringing them together. “It’s going to be ok. Did you friend say what was wrong?”She shook her head mutely, tears making her eyes glitter and shine. They were literally swimming in tears but she wasn’t actually crying because no tears fell down her cheek.I reached for her cheek anyway. Rubbing my thing under her eye. “That’s a good thing. Everything is going to be fine. I promise.”Now that was a bare faced lie but only in parts. Things hadn’t gone entirely to plan because my little gift was meant to be for the woman next to me and not her roommate but it seemed the roommate had changed her schedule at the last minute and come home to find my little gift. Not to plan at all but it would have the same effect on the girl next to me. Alessia“Papa.” Softly I closed the bathroom door. Dana was sleeping fitfully on one of the two hotel beds because that’s where we were now.In a hotel in the centre of the city. Something swanky because Dana needed the distraction and I knew my father would go nuclear if he found out I had checked into anything less than five stars. And he had found out in less than hour which meant my parents were still tracking my bank accounts. Of course I kind of knew they would be.“What’s happened?” It was my fathers voice but not the voice he used around me: this was his work voice. “I just got an alert that you used your card to-“I sighed loudly. “We are perfectly safe papa, I am perfectly safe.”“And what exactly are you safe from?” His tone was dangerous and I could clearly picture him stalking back and forth in front of my mum. “What has happened?”“Start from the beginning.” Another male voice quipped and I knew that voice. Not that I had any right to the feelings assaulting me. He had asked me out for dinner that was true but we weren’t in fact dating. He had just done me a favour and been a gentleman. Aiden didn’t owe me anything at all so I had no right to be jealous.I was though. Glancing at the clock on the nightstand I frowned. It wasn’t even seven am so it was also too early for room service which I had booked for half eight.Maybe it was just my imagination.Someone knocked again. Slightly louder this time. AidenPicking the crystal decanter in my hand I launched it at the far wall. Right next to the window which I was lucky I didn’t hit. I wasn’t sure it would have broken thanks to the safety glass but did I really want to risk it?“Are you done smashing things up or should I wait a while?” A familiar voice spoke from my phone on the bed. I turned to it and if I could have reached through the line and crossed the ocean between us I would have gladly wrapped my fingers around his throat and squeezed the laughter right out of his voice. Laughing at me even when I was in a good mood was a dangerous hobby , laughing at me in this rage was pretty much a death wish. “She said no.” I said again because I had a feeling he didn’t quite get it yet. Maybe he wasn’t really listening. So I would say it again and again until it sank into his thick head. “She fucking said no to having dinner with me.” I clenched my fists. “No one says no to me.”His laughter bubbled up even louder than before. “Has

Unless you ladies want the place to yourself.”Hell yeah I wanted the place to myself. There was no way I was going to be able to relax with him in there and looking the way he did.“No, of course not.” Dana moved into the room until it was just me standing there keeping the door open.“Plenty of room for all of us.” She continued. “Are you coming in , Alessia or are you just going to stand there?” Sh

Aiden “Fuck.” I tugged at my hair wish one hand as I stepped off the elevator and on to our floor. I’d tried to catch up with her but she had been quick so I’d had to take the next one. I was literally a minute or two behind her but Alessia was nowhere to be seen.“Fuck fuck fuck.” Striding down the hallway , I tried to figure out what I should do now. When she had turned up in the foyer all upset and needy I had thought my luck was in and then boom just like that she had gathered her wigs around her.The best thing to do would be to give her space. Alessia was stronger willed than i had given her credit for. I had underestimated her but that wouldn’t happen again. My own door came into view, hers almost directly opposite. Now what was the chances of that? She hadn’t known which hotel I was in. And I had checked in before her and yet we had both ended up not only in the same hotel but literally in rooms facing each other. It would be so easy to knock on her door, maybe pull her into

AlessiaThe whisky was still burning down my throat when I used my keycard to let myself into my hotel room a few minutes later. I hated whisky but that wasn’t the reason I had left him in such a hurry. The last thing I needed was for alcohol to lower my guard around him. Because one more drink and I was probably going to do something stupid like climb him like a tree and beg him to take me.That couldn’t happen. It didn’t matter how alone I felt right now. I couldn’t just give myself to the first guy who came along. Even if they were beautiful and charming… And not single. I told myself.Moving into the room I slid the card into its little holder and moved my hand to find the lights. Only in the dark I couldn’t quite remember where that was. Stumbling forward, I let my hand drift until I found it. Behind me something moved. A whisper of cloth brushing against cloth coming from somewhere near the bathroom.I whirled, my heart pounding and half expecting to find Dana right behind m

Alessia We spent the rest of the day at the police station. They took statements and then double checked them. I didn’t know how much more I could tell them because I hadn’t been there.I had no clue what was going on.“You’re a Moretti.” The detective came back into the room, minus the drink he had promised me and sat down heavily on the other side of the table. He had a stack of papers in his hand which he kept glancing down at. “Yes. That is my name. Alessia Moretti.” I forced myself to smile. He didn’t smile back even though he had been all smiles and good natured charm right up until that point. “You’re family is -“I cut him off as Dana shot me a look from the chair next to me. “I know who my family is.”He looked between us. And realisation settled over his features like a mask. “I see. Is your family involved Alessia. Did something happen between you and the man -““You know who it is?” Dana’s voice shook. “Some low level thug, Irish parents but born here.” The detectives
