Allessia
We didn’t end up going to McQuinns although Aiden did ask me to point it out before steering me down a narrow alleyway and into the smallest quaintest coffee shop I had ever seen.
Looking around as he pulled out my chair I smiled. It was adorable and me in every way. I didn’t know how I had lived in the city for this long and missed it.
“I can see by your face that you approve.” Taking the seat opposite me, he reached across the table for my hands and trapped them between his. Rubbing his thumb back and forth over the back of them.
When he looked up at me his eyes were soft. “You’re not shaking anymore but your fingers are still cold. Are you sure you are ok?”
Mutely I nodded. Not because I was in shock or scared any longer but because of the way he was looking at me. No man, not in my entire life, had ever looked at me the way this handsome stranger was.
Men looked at me and felt lust. Their lust for me and for the power I promised them but with Aiden he looked at me and it felt like he actually cared.
Which was just plain nuts because we had literally just met.
“Maybe I should have got you checked out.” He mumbled and then fell silent as I turned my hand in his , entwining our fingers.
“No.” I said softly. “There’s no need for that. I’m honestly fine.” Lifting my chin I met his eyes. “I actually feel pretty safe with you.”
His fingers squeezed mine before letting my hand go completely. His, disappeared under the table. “I’m glad you feel safe Allessia but you really should keep your guard up. I mean a woman in your situation-“
Frowning, I dropped my hand to my lap. “In my situation?” I asked. Did he know who I was? Was that what he was talking about?
“Yes a beautiful woman, you probably shouldn’t have followed me here. I could have kidnapped you.”
Paranoid. That’s what I was. Completely and utterly paranoid. This wasn’t a man if my fathers circle, he hadn’t even reacted when I had said Moretti.
This was just a man who looked at me with soft eyes.
“Are you going to kidnap me?” Gazing at him from beneath my lashes I fought back the urge to grin.
He eyed me fully. “That really depends.” His accent really was something to swoon over. Melodious and masculine in equal measures. I fought the urge to fan myself.
“It depends on what?”
“On whether you want to be kidnapped.” He said smoothly and my core clenched.
Across the small table Aidens eyes flashed. “Or how many cream scones you’re about to put away.” He teased lightening the mood with a wink. “Because I’ve seen you eying them.”
“I- uh-“ Heat crept up my cheeks and I hung my head. “I guess I would be a bit to heavy if I-“
Aiden cut me off instantly. “If you wanted to be kidnapped I’d manage it easily Allessia. You could stuff yourself with cream cakes and scones and I’d still pick you up and,” he trailed off as my cheeks flamed. “Well I probably shouldn’t say anymore because your blushing.”
“Am I?” I feigned innocence.
“Yes.” Reaching across the table , he stroked his fingers down my cheek and I shivered with the contact. I’d had boyfriends, very casual ones because no one wanted to mess with my dad but Aiden wasn’t a boy and he didn’t touch my face like a boy either.
He touched me like a man who wanted to own a woman in every single way possible.
“And it’s adorable but I still shouldn’t have said it.”
“I don’t mind that you said it.” I whispered. “I like-“ stammering I fell silent. “Well you know.” A small self conscious shrug.
“You like that I was thinking of picking you up , wrapping your legs around my waist and kissing you or the idea of being kidnapped?”
He said it so casually. Like he said things like that to women all the time and for all I knew he did. Aiden was definitely a charmer and a smooth talker.
“Yes.” I whispered. Glancing around I half expected everyone to be looking at us. At the very least for them to be listening in but it was like we were completely on our own. No one cared what he had just said to me.
Well no one but me.
One dark eyebrow shot up. “Yes to which one?” He probed.
Slowly I met his eyes. “Yes.” I murmured agai. And this time I was rewarded my a booming laugh.
“Keep your secrets then Miss Moretti and I’ll keep mine.” He winked. “For now.”
“Do you have many secrets?”
“Hundreds.” He admitted without any hesitation. “Maybe even thousands.”
Leaning across the table I lowered my voice to a whisper.
“Will you tell me one?”
The moment I asked I realised how stupid it was. I’d just met this man and here I was asking him to tell me one of his deepest darkest secrets.
Ok it didn’t have to be a deep dark one but i had still asked something deeply personal.
He caught my hands up again, leaning over the lacy tablecloth so our faces were just inches apart. “You really want to know?” He smiled. “Allessia.”
The way he said my name was like a promise. My eyes locked themselves to his lips. To the shape they made when he said my name and my core clenched again.
“Yes.” I whispered.
“I want to kiss you. I’ve wanted to kiss you since the moment I saw you. Your lips-“ reaching up he brushed his thumb against my bottom lip.
Sucking in a breath I fought the urge to close my eyes. “I-“
He cut me off. “That’s my secret right now. That I want to kiss you but I know now isn’t the right time so I’m going to do the gentlemanly thing and -“
My eyes snapped open, and the little coffee shop with all its noise and smells snapped back into view. As much as I would have enjoyed the feel of his lips on mine, he was right. Here and now wasn’t the place.
Like he had read my mind he settled back on the chair. “I’m going to ask you to have dinner with me tonight?”
“Dinner?” Out of all the things he could have said that was not what I was expecting. “Me?”
Chuckling low in his throat, He nodded. “Yes, food, drinks, some amazing company and if I am lucky you will let me kiss you goodnight.” His eyes darted to my lips again and this time they lingered there.
It was the way he looked at them that made me sigh happily.
“If I am very very lucky.” He added with a smile.
“You seem like a lucky kind of person.” I teased and was rewarded with a wide almost cheesy smile.
“I like to think so-“
In my bag my phone began to ring. Loudly. “I’m sorry I need to get this. It’s my roommate.” I flashed him a rueful smile as the tune began again. Something about big Ds and things I had never experienced. “She programmed the song and-“
Aiden motioned for me to answer it.
“Hey what’s-“
Her screams were loud and deafening. Growing out my greeting.
“What’s wrong? Hello?” I tried again. A mounting panic rose up in my chest. Aiden leant forward his own face confused but my roommate didn’t say a word,
She was screaming too loud for that to happen.
Aiden I got us a taxi, insisting on it because Allessia was beside herself with worry thanks to her friends screaming.“Hey.” Reaching across the back seat I grabbed her hands in mine. Forcing them apart because she kept picking at her nails and wringing them together. “It’s going to be ok. Did you friend say what was wrong?”She shook her head mutely, tears making her eyes glitter and shine. They were literally swimming in tears but she wasn’t actually crying because no tears fell down her cheek.I reached for her cheek anyway. Rubbing my thing under her eye. “That’s a good thing. Everything is going to be fine. I promise.”Now that was a bare faced lie but only in parts. Things hadn’t gone entirely to plan because my little gift was meant to be for the woman next to me and not her roommate but it seemed the roommate had changed her schedule at the last minute and come home to find my little gift. Not to plan at all but it would have the same effect on the girl next to me. Alessia“Papa.” Softly I closed the bathroom door. Dana was sleeping fitfully on one of the two hotel beds because that’s where we were now.In a hotel in the centre of the city. Something swanky because Dana needed the distraction and I knew my father would go nuclear if he found out I had checked into anything less than five stars. And he had found out in less than hour which meant my parents were still tracking my bank accounts. Of course I kind of knew they would be.“What’s happened?” It was my fathers voice but not the voice he used around me: this was his work voice. “I just got an alert that you used your card to-“I sighed loudly. “We are perfectly safe papa, I am perfectly safe.”“And what exactly are you safe from?” His tone was dangerous and I could clearly picture him stalking back and forth in front of my mum. “What has happened?”“Start from the beginning.” Another male voice quipped and I knew that voice. Stefano my fathers right hand man was there and I was clearly on
Alessia I couldn’t get the image out of my mind. All night it had plagued me. Aiden kissing that leggy brunette like his life depended on it. And I was raked with jealousy. Not that I had any right to the feelings assaulting me. He had asked me out for dinner that was true but we weren’t in fact dating. He had just done me a favour and been a gentleman. Aiden didn’t owe me anything at all so I had no right to be jealous.I was though. And I hated the way it twisted my thoughts and -A knock , so quiet that I almost missed it sounded from the other end of the room. It was early and Dana was still sound asleep. Glancing at the clock on the nightstand I frowned. It wasn’t even seven am so it was also too early for room service which I had booked for half eight.Maybe it was just my imagination.Someone knocked again. Slightly louder this time. With a grumble of Italian under my breath I swept the blankets from over me and padded bare foot towards the door.Swinging it open a few inch
AidenPicking the crystal decanter in my hand I launched it at the far wall. Right next to the window which I was lucky I didn’t hit. I wasn’t sure it would have broken thanks to the safety glass but did I really want to risk it?“Are you done smashing things up or should I wait a while?” A familiar voice spoke from my phone on the bed. I turned to it and if I could have reached through the line and crossed the ocean between us I would have gladly wrapped my fingers around his throat and squeezed the laughter right out of his voice. Laughing at me even when I was in a good mood was a dangerous hobby , laughing at me in this rage was pretty much a death wish. “She said no.” I said again because I had a feeling he didn’t quite get it yet. Maybe he wasn’t really listening. So I would say it again and again until it sank into his thick head. “She fucking said no to having dinner with me.” I clenched my fists. “No one says no to me.”His laughter bubbled up even louder than before. “Has
Alessia“This is just what we needed.” Heaving myself out of the jacuzzi I followed after Dana , who seemed to have much more experience with hotel spas than I did.“It is and you just wait until-“ she swung open the door of what I was guessing was the sauna and froze. “Oh.” She said loudly. “Sorry I didn’t realise anyone else was here.”Confused I looked around her and it was my turn to freeze. Fuck.“No problem.” Aidens sultry voice was full of surprise. His eyes found mine and the surprise turned into delight. They twinkled with it. Beautiful even through the steam.“Plenty of room. Unless you ladies want the place to yourself.”Hell yeah I wanted the place to myself. There was no way I was going to be able to relax with him in there and looking the way he did.“No, of course not.” Dana moved into the room until it was just me standing there keeping the door open.“Plenty of room for all of us.” She continued. “Are you coming in , Alessia or are you just going to stand there?” Sh
Alessia We spent the rest of the day at the police station. They took statements and then double checked them. I didn’t know how much more I could tell them because I hadn’t been there.I had no clue what was going on.“You’re a Moretti.” The detective came back into the room, minus the drink he had promised me and sat down heavily on the other side of the table. He had a stack of papers in his hand which he kept glancing down at. “Yes. That is my name. Alessia Moretti.” I forced myself to smile. He didn’t smile back even though he had been all smiles and good natured charm right up until that point. “You’re family is -“I cut him off as Dana shot me a look from the chair next to me. “I know who my family is.”He looked between us. And realisation settled over his features like a mask. “I see. Is your family involved Alessia. Did something happen between you and the man -““You know who it is?” Dana’s voice shook. “Some low level thug, Irish parents but born here.” The detectives
AlessiaThe whisky was still burning down my throat when I used my keycard to let myself into my hotel room a few minutes later. I hated whisky but that wasn’t the reason I had left him in such a hurry. The last thing I needed was for alcohol to lower my guard around him. Because one more drink and I was probably going to do something stupid like climb him like a tree and beg him to take me.That couldn’t happen. It didn’t matter how alone I felt right now. I couldn’t just give myself to the first guy who came along. Even if they were beautiful and charming… And not single. I told myself.Moving into the room I slid the card into its little holder and moved my hand to find the lights. Only in the dark I couldn’t quite remember where that was. Stumbling forward, I let my hand drift until I found it. Behind me something moved. A whisper of cloth brushing against cloth coming from somewhere near the bathroom.I whirled, my heart pounding and half expecting to find Dana right behind m
Aiden “Fuck.” I tugged at my hair wish one hand as I stepped off the elevator and on to our floor. I’d tried to catch up with her but she had been quick so I’d had to take the next one. I was literally a minute or two behind her but Alessia was nowhere to be seen.“Fuck fuck fuck.” Striding down the hallway , I tried to figure out what I should do now. When she had turned up in the foyer all upset and needy I had thought my luck was in and then boom just like that she had gathered her wigs around her.The best thing to do would be to give her space. Alessia was stronger willed than i had given her credit for. I had underestimated her but that wouldn’t happen again. My own door came into view, hers almost directly opposite. Now what was the chances of that? She hadn’t known which hotel I was in. And I had checked in before her and yet we had both ended up not only in the same hotel but literally in rooms facing each other. It would be so easy to knock on her door, maybe pull her into
