Mara's POV

"An attack?" Dahlia questioned worriedly her grip on my hand tightening.

"Excuse me" The seer said walking out the door before anyone can say anything to stop her I glanced at Dahlia who nodded,

"She'll be fine" she assured.

“Take care of one another Dahlia, stay here. Lock the door and don’t open it for anyone but me.”

“Ethan, please be careful,” I whispered, my heart pounding.

He gave me a reassuring smile, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “I will. Just stay safe.”

With that, he left, closing the door behind him. Dahlia and I quickly locked it, the sound of the bolt sliding into place feeling both secure and terrifyingly final. We could hear the chaos outside, the clash of weapons, the shouts, and the growls. It was a nightmare brought to life.

Dahlia paced the small room, her worry etched into every line of her face. “We’ll be okay, Mara. Ethan will handle this.”

I nodded, though I wasn’t sure if I believed it. “I hope so.”

"It's not something I can do lightly."I remembered the last witch who had cast the spell next to Duncan. She didn't seem fazed or break a sweat, was it because she was powerful or that was just a show they put up so I could believe Mara was dead."I understand," I replied, trying to keep the desperation out of my voice.
