Mara's POV

As Ethan stood up to leave, I felt consumed by guilt. “Ethan, I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.”

He paused by the door, turning back to face me. “Mara, it’s okay. I’m the one who should apologize. I’ve been rushing things, and I didn’t think about how you might feel.”

I shook my head, trying to hold back tears. “No, it’s not just that. I’ve been so overwhelmed by everything. I didn’t mean to push you away, but I just need some time to sort through everything.”

Ethan walked over to me, his expression soft and understanding. “I get it. We’re all dealing with a lot right now. And I should have been more patient.”

I nodded, trying to force a smile through my tears. “Thank you for understanding. I really appreciate it.”

He gave me a reassuring smile, then turned to leave. “Take care of yourself, Mara. I’ll see you soon.”
