Katherine
I stormed right into Richard’s office with fury and determination, my heels clicking furiously against the floor. My blood was seriously boiling with rage, and my hands clenched into fists. Emilia was seated across from Richard, her face was calm—way too calm—like she hadn’t just destroyed my family and it made me even more pissed off.
"You!" I spat, pointing a finger right at her. "You did this! You got my father arrested! Didn't you?"
Emilia blinked twice, taken aback, but before she could even speak, Richard stood up defending her.
"Katherine, that is enough." His voice was cold, firm. But I wasn't going to let him intimidate me, he was in on it since she was his wife.
I turned to him, my jaw tightening. "You’re defending her? After everything she’s done? Of course, you're defending her, you both conspired against him."
Richard sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Your father’s arrest has nothing to do with Emilia. Would you just chill out, are you forgetting who you're speaking to?"
I let out a bitter laugh. "Oh, please. Ever since she showed her face here, my life has fallen apart, gone to shambles Now my father’s in jail, and you expect me to believe she had nothing to do with it?"
Richard’s dark eyes locked onto mine. "Believe it or not, the truth doesn’t change at all."
He walked around his desk, stopping directly in front of me. His expression was unreadable, but his next words shattered everything in me.
"I was the one who had your father arrested."
My breath caught. "What?"
Richard’s voice was steady. "We conducted an internal investigation. Apparently it turns out that your father has been embezzling money from the company for years. Millions, Katherine. We have substantial and. undeniable proof of his crimes."
I felt the room spin.
No. This couldn’t be true.
"You’re lying, you're lying, that's what you do isn't it?" I whispered, but my voice lacked confidence.
Richard didn’t flinch. "I don’t lie about business."
Emilia remained silent, her expression unreadable.
Humiliation burned through me. Everyone had seen my father dragged out in cuffs. Now, they would know he was a fraud. And that would affect me seriously.
Without another word, I turned and walked out of the building, my head low, sobbing.
...
I sat up curled up on my plush couch, staring blankly at the glass of red wine in my hand. My apartment was quiet, way too quiet, the silence pressing in on me like a heavy weight. The dim glow of the chandelier reflected off the sleek marble floors, but none of it brought me comfort of any sort.
My father was still in prison.
I still couldn’t believe it. One moment, he was running the company like he had done always, powerful, fear and respected among his peers. The next, he was being dragged out of the building in handcuffs, humiliated in front of everyone including me.
And I could do nothing to stop it. Nothing at all.
I gritted my teeth, taking a slow sip of my wine. My mind kept replaying the moment over and over again in my head, my father’s bewildered face, the murmurs from the employees, the judgmental looks from people who were nothing but bunch of pathetic low-lives. They were all enjoying our downfall, whispering behind my back, smirking when they thought I wasn’t looking.
They thought I was finished.
But I wasn’t. I was far from finished
I was still Katherine Smith, and I wasn’t going to let this break me.
The sound of the front door opening pulled me from my thoughts. My heart leaped, and I quickly turned, relief washing over me when I saw who it was.
Jayden.
He stepped inside, his usual confident aura filling the room. His tailored suit was crisp, his dark hair perfectly styled. He looked like he had just walked out of an expensive business meeting.
I wasted no time. I shot up from the couch and rushed into his arms, wrapping myself around him. I felt a bit if relief now that he was here
"Why didn’t you come sooner?" I murmured, resting my head on his shoulder. Still sobbing.
I expected him to hold me tighter, to comfort me the way he always did when things got rough. But instead, he just stood there, stiff and silent.
Something was wrong. I could sense it
I pulled back, frowning as I looked up at him. "Jayden?"
His expression was unreadable, his sharp eyes locked onto mine with something cold—something unfamiliar.
"What’s wrong? Is everything okay" I asked, my voice uncertain.
He sighed and took a step back. "Your father is in jail." He said looking at me straight in the eye.
I tensed, my hands curling into fists at my sides. "Yeah, I am aware of that," I said sharply. "Why are you reminding me of that huh?"
Jayden didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he turned away, walking toward the bar in the corner of my apartment. He grabbed a crystal glass, poured himself a drink, and took a slow sip before speaking again.
"Your father is..well was an important figure in the company," he began, his voice eerily calm.
I folded my arms. "What's that supposed to mean?"
He swirled the amber liquid in his glass before continuing. "And him being important made you important." He paused, then smirked. "And by extension, it made me important as well."
A strange chill ran down my spine. Something about the way he said it made me uneasy.
I frowned. "What are you saying, Jayden?"
He sighed, shaking his head slightly, as if he pitied me. "Katherine, look here," he said smoothly, turning to face me fully. "Your dad is in jail now. He’s useless to me now. And that makes you useless to me also."
I blinked. His words didn’t register at first.
"W-what?" I whispered, my voice barely above a breath. "What are you even saying?"
Jayden took another sip of his drink, completely unfazed by my shock. "I can’t be seen hanging around someone as useless as you. Talk more of being engaged to someone useless. I can't have that Katherine."
The disgust on his face hit me like a slap.
I staggered back, my stomach twisting painfully. "You’re joking right," I said, shaking my head.
His lips curled into a smirk. "Do I look like I’m joking? No I can assure you, I'm not."
My hands started to shake. "No, no, no," I muttered, stepping forward. "You can’t do this to me, Jayden. We’re supposed to be together."
He raised a brow, unimpressed. "Says who?"
Tears burned my eyes as I grabbed his shirt, gripping it desperately. Pushing him frantically "You promised me, Jayden! You said we’d get through everything together! You fucking promised me damn it!" I said in total despair.
Jayden sighed, rolling his eyes. "Yeah I said that but that was before your father turned himself and you into a total disgrace, you both are now laughing stocks if the company" he said, yanking his shirt free from my grip.
I stumbled back, my breathing ragged. "You can’t do this," I choked out, pointing at him.
He tilted his head, mockingly. "Oh, but I can. Watch me"
He lifted his drink to his lips, gulped down the rest, then set the glass on the bar with a clink.
"I’m breaking up with you," he said casually, as if he were ending a business deal.
My world shattered right there.
The air left my lungs. I felt like I had been slapped, punched, knocked down all at once.
"N-no," I stammered, shaking my head wildly. "No, you don’t mean that! You can't mean it."
I reached for him again, but he shoved me away effortlessly. I fell to the floor, my knees hitting the cold tiles with a dull thud.
Tears streamed down my face as I looked up at him in horror.
"Jayden… please," I begged, my voice cracking.
But he only smirked. "Sorry, love," he said with a mocking shrug. "But you’re no longer useful."
He turned on his heel and headed for the door.
I watched in disbelief as he walked away, my heart pounding so hard it hurt.
Just as he reached the entrance, he glanced back over his shoulder, flashing me one last, cruel smile.
"Toodles," he said smoothly before stepping out, closing the door behind him without a second thought.
I sat there, motionless, my breath coming out in shaky gasps.
It was her. Emilia
This was all Emilia’s fault.
Ever since she came into the company, my life had taken a drastic turn for the worst. First, that my cousin —Nora—got fired because if her meddling. Then, my father was arrested. And now, Jayden had just tossed me aside like garbage. All thanks to her.
My hands curled into fists.
I wouldn’t let this go. Never.
I would surely get my revenge on her and everyone she knows.
I swore it.
JaydenThe night air felt very cold and it was biting, even though it was still very early in the evening. I walked down the sidewalk on the left, hands shoved deep inside my jacket pockets, head down and I was lost in thought. The weight of the night before sat heavily on my chest. I had done it. I had thrown Katherine away like she was nothing, just another notch in the long list of women i hadused to feed my ego. She had been a stepping stone, a way to keep the image of the perfect life intact. But now? She was no longer of use to me. Now, everything was in shambles. My mind was a simply a jumbled mess, one thought crashing itself onto the next. I had dumped Katherine, fought off any trace of hesitation to end things, but why did it feel like one of the few wrong choices I had ever made? Part of me had expected a bit of relief, but instead, all I felt was an insatiable bitterness, gnawing away at me from the inside out.Katherine’s father had recently been arrested. It was a scanda
KatherineThe atmosphere around me felt really damp with silence in the aftermath of Jayden’s hurtful and bitter words. It was as if the whole world had frozen right around me, and all that remained was the bitter sting of raw rejection.I sat on the edge of the bed, my phone clutched very tightly in my hand. As my fingertips hovered over the screen, trembling ever slightly as I stared at Jayden's name. Why did it feel like I was holding onto a lifeline that was slipping away from me? Why?I dialed his number again and again,, for the hundredth time, hoping, praying that this time, he’d answer. But he just refused to.The call went straight into voicemail.I stared at the screen for a long moment before finally deciding to leave another message. Emilia“What the hell is going on, Jayden?” I asked sharply.I couldn't believe my eyes, even after stepping in here.I could hardly believe it hours ago when Bae had called and told me that she'd spotted him entering what was a supposed celebration in a grand hotel at the other end of the city when he'd claimed to have travelled for work. Despite my doubts I had come here abd she was right. The company he worked for, Kane Group was having a company wide gala and he hadn't told me.But that wasn't the worst part. No. Because as I had rushed in her I saw him.Jayden, my boyfriend of six years, wrapped around so comfortably with another woman.I felt the urge to vomit. Now, pulled away from the crowd he remained unresponsive, not even flinching from my question, instead his brown eyes narrowed and a hint of annoyance became evident. He looked at me as if I didn’t belong here in the first place. Like I didn't have the right to ask why on earth he was at a company party he told me absolut
EmiliaI wasn't alone. My heart skipped a beat as I noticed the warmth and the faint sound of breathing that wasn't me. Panic surged through me as I whipped my head to my side to find an equally naked man beside me.Dark, messy hair covered the top half of his features and sharp, angular features that made him look like he had stepped out of a magazine.‘Snap out of it Emilia,’ I mentally slapped myself blinking back to reality. There were too many questions in my head. I tried to recall the entire day, but the last thing I remembered was talking to Jayden and then moving to the bar. Everything else was so…fuzzy after.Had I …spoken to someone?Frustration built up in me. I didn't know what the hell happened after and that was the key to understanding this. It definitely couldn't have been the alcohol considering my tolerance and that meant someone had done something to me. Like drugging me.And now I was naked with a man I'd never met.I was so lost in my thoughts that the moment I f
ONE MONTH LATERRichardI’d re-watched the footage so many times that I knew every detail, yet in the silence of my office I clicked the mouse once more. The hotel footage from a month ago replayed itself. In the dim lighting of the hallway, a dark grainy figure stumbled and swayed while still rushing in what looked like panic as she used the wall to balance herself. Then after a short pause she found the door that led to my hotel room.I paused right at the moment before she stumbled inside, into what was my hotel room. My gaze traced her figure, immortalized in that single frame.A mix of frustration and longing ignited within me.It's been a month since that night, and yet, no matter how much I analyzed the footage, I couldn’t look away. This wasn’t how I expected things to happen. I was very detailed about my life, careful with every move I made. And yet, in just a single night, everything had spiraled out of control because someone had dared to drug me.And then there was her.Al
EmiliaSomething was wrong. It was jarring. Things weren't supposed to be this way and for the most part, it was.Freedom felt good . It had been a month since Jayden's breakup with me and I had been thriving. I'd realized it after taking on the first five jobs within only two days of re-entering the job market. All this time, albeit unconsciously, I had been subduing herself. It all started years ago because of what Jayden used to tell me. I had graduated with better honors and opportunities than him but because of his insecurity, I took low level jobs to not make him feel bad and kept supporting him. Now I realized what a stupid mistake I'd made. In pushing myself down he had thought I was lower than him.Without Jayden dragging me down, I’d made waves in my freelance career. Jobs surprisingly kept piling up and for the first time in years, I felt like I was actually progressing. I was happier than ever in life.Until the symptoms started. At first it was just simple exhaustion and
EmiliaIt wasn’t a question.I couldn't answer him, but my silence was enough of an answer. He continued looking at me and his stare grew more unnerving. Shutting my eyes I came back to my senses.“It's none of your business. Y-you shouldn't have barged into my home. Leave now,” I snapped, trying to pull him away despite my racing heart. He didn't budge. Instead his sharp gaze lingered on me.“It is my business. It’s our child, after all,” he said, freezing me in place.I held back the urge to flinch at his words. Unable to pull him away I took several steps back. How was he so calm about this? Mentioning my pregnancy so calmly. I didn't even know him!“What are you doing here?’ I huffed, trying to regain my composure, “How on earth is Richard Kane in my house?”“So you do know who I am.”A wave of embarrassment rose to my cheeks as his lips curled into a smirk. Nevermind that if you only found out recently.A sigh left his lips.“And to think that I came here for something else. You'
EmiliaThe last thing I wanted on my first day at Kane Group was to run into Jayden. But of course, fate had a twisted sense of humor. It was almost as if the universe had conspired to test my patience, throwing me directly into the path of the last person I wanted to see.Standing in the hallway like he owned the place, Jayden turned at the sight of me, his brows furrowing in confusion before morphing into something even more insufferable—amusement.“What the hell are you doing here?” he asked, his tone a mixture of surprise and arrogance.I met his gaze without hesitation, keeping my expression calm, uninterested. “What do you mean, ‘what the hell am I doing here’?” I asked nonchalantly, as if his presence was nothing more than a minor inconvenience in my otherwise pleasant day.His lips curled into a smirk. “Oh, no, wait…” He took a step closer, tilting his head. “Are you here because of me?”The sheer confidence in his voice made my fingers twitch with the urge to wipe that smug g

KatherineIt was Monday morning, and it was a depressing sunny day.I sighed as I approached the towering glass building of Kane Group. It has been three days, three days had passed since that humiliating disaster at the company's anniversary party, yet the whispers and never ending lingering stares still followed me like a shadow behind my back and it was annoying. It was a nightmare a complete and total catastrophe for me.Jayden’s name was on everyone’s lips, and not even for the right reasons and neither was mine. He had been utterly humiliated, and by extension, so had I. The thought made my blood boil. I was still furious mostly at that bitch named Emili. She stole my spotlight. But I wouldn’t let them see me flinch.Straightening my shoulders, I lifted my chin and stepped inside. As expected, the moment I entered, all eyes turned to me. The air just starting buzzing with murmurs, hushed low whispers that weren’t even subtle at all. I could feel their judgment crawling over my s
Emilia The air was still thick with tension from Richard’s announcement. I could feel the weight of a hundred eyes on us, watching, whispering, speculating. But none of it mattered—not when Richard stood beside me, his hand resting protectively on my waist, his presence a shield against the storm. The music had resumed, a slow, elegant tune filling the grand ballroom. The murmur of conversation was back, but there was an undeniable shift in the atmosphere.Richard had claimed me in front of everyone. And now, the world saw me not just as Emilia, the once-forgotten fiancée of Jayden Turner, but as his wife. And the mother of his child.I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. My heart was still racing from the kiss he had given me earlier—possessive, deliberate, leaving no room for doubt about where we stood. Even now, my lips still tingled from the warmth of his touch, the sensation lingering like an unspoken promise.I turned to look at him, expecting him to be scanning the room like he a
Jayden The murmurs hadn’t stopped. Even as the orchestra resumed its melody and guests returned to their conversations, the energy in the room had shifted.Richard Kane’s announcement had stolen the night.I stood frozen in the middle of the ballroom, my mind racing. Emilia was his wife. She was pregnant with his child. And he had just kissed her in front of everyone, making a clear and public declaration. And the worst part?No one was talking about my engagement to Katherine anymore. The moment that was supposed to cement our status, the carefully planned announcement meant to elevate our position in the company, had been utterly overshadowed. Instead of congratulating me and Katherine, guests whispered amongst themselves about Emilia and Richard.Katherine was fuming beside me, gripping her champagne glass so tightly I thought it might crack. Her lips were pulled into a tight line, and her usual poised demeanor had faltered. “This is ridiculous,” she hissed, keeping her voice low.
JaydenThe ballroom gleamed with opulence, the golden chandeliers casting a warm, regal glow over the sea of sharply dressed guests. Crystal glasses clinked, and the soft hum of polite conversation filled the space. Waiters moved effortlessly between groups, offering expensive champagne and exquisite hors d’oeuvres. The Kane Group’s anniversary gala was more than just a celebration. It was a statement—a display of power, wealth, and influence. A night where the elite of the business world gathered to reaffirm their positions at the top. And tonight, Katherine and I were about to take center stage.I adjusted the cuffs of my tailored black suit, exhaling slowly as I scanned the room. Business moguls, investors, CEOs—all the right people were here. People who understood the value of strategic alliances. People who would recognize what my engagement to Katherine truly meant.. Beside me, Katherine radiated confidence. Her deep red gown hugged her curves, the color bold and deliberate—a q
Richard. The air inside Kane Group buzzed with the usual morning energy—keyboards clacking, phones ringing, employees chatting in hushed voices. But as I strode through the lobby, a different kind of chatter reached my ears.“…can’t believe she’s still here.”“I know, right? She’s acting like she actually belongs in that position.”I didn’t slow my pace, but my jaw clenched slightly. They hadn’t even noticed me approaching.“She probably thinks if she sticks around long enough, Richard Kane will put a ring on her finger.”A round of snickering followed.I stopped beside them, fixing my gaze on the group of employees huddled near the reception area. The moment they realized I was there, their faces drained of color. One of the men—a junior associate from the marketing department—stiffened, his laughter dying instantly. The others quickly averted their gazes, pretending to be suddenly fascinated by their phones or the floor. One of them, a young man I vaguely recognized, cleared his thr
EmiliaThe weight of their stares never lessened. It clung to me like a heavy fog, thick with judgment and barely concealed contempt. No matter where I went in the office, I could feel their eyes trailing me, their hushed whispers punctuated by barely hidden sneers.I wasn’t naïve. I knew what they were thinking. She doesn’t deserve this position. She must have slept her way to the top.Richard Kane must have a special taste for desperate women. The words weren’t spoken directly to me, but they didn’t have to be. The looks were enough.Despite the suffocating tension in the air, I held my head high and walked with purpose. If I let them see even a fraction of doubt or hesitation, they would pounce. These people thrived on weakness, and I refused to give them the satisfaction of watching me crumble. But that didn’t mean their whispers didn’t sting.I clenched my fists as I neared the reception desk, forcing my shoulders to remain straight.
