Chapter 5

“Let me go! You have no right to treat me like this...” Jeanette struggled with all her might.

Sylvia did not bother listening to her at all. She put her hands on her hips triumphantly, as if she was waiting to watch what ensued.

Jeanette struggled but to no avail. She was pushed to the door of the basement within a few seconds.

“Enough.” Damon, who was at the side, finally spoke. He stood up slowly and strode with his long legs as he walked toward Jeanette.

“Damon, what are you doing?” Sylvia asked anxiously, “Do you want to side with this woman? She just disrespected me!”

Damon was tall and lean. It only took him a few steps before he was in front of Jeanette. He gave the two servants a cold glance, and they retracted their hands in fear, immediately letting go of Jeanette.

Jeanette could still feel the warmth on her wrist when Damon grabbed her by the hand and pulled her to his side. When she looked back at him, he still seemed cold and indifferent.

He said to Sylvia, “Mom, she’s my person. I’ll handle her myself. When we get back, I’ll help you punish her for the mistakes she made today!”

Sylvia’s expression eased up a little, but she berated, “You’d better not go easy on her! Otherwise, she’ll definitely take advantage of you! I know uncultured people like her, and what they’re lacking is discipline!”

Damon hummed indifferently and dragged Jeanette away. He had the height advantage and was naturally tall, so he walked with long strides. He was a head taller than Jeanette, and she was wearing a pair of stilettos, so she could not keep up with his pace at all. She was stumbling around as he dragged her.

Unsurprisingly, Jeanette sprained her ankle as they walked past the cobblestone path in the courtyard. She stumbled and screamed in pain as she lost control of her body and was about to fall to the ground.

She was screaming in her heart because she was about to fall on the cobblestone path wearing just a short skirt, so she would definitely scrape her knees.

However, she suddenly felt a grip on her waist. Damon managed to hold her just in time.

Damon asked glumly, “Are you blind? How do you even fall down like this?”

Jeanette was already feeling wronged and miserable, yet she was called blind because she almost fell when he was dragging her around too fast? Did it even make sense?

“I’m blind indeed! If I wasn’t blind, why would I...”

‘Fall in love with you.’

When she was about to utter those five words, she forced herself to swallow them back.

Damon had always despised and looked down upon her. If he knew that she still loved him so deeply, he would probably despise her even more in his heart.

“Forget it. Let go of me.” Jeanette pushed his hand away and walked forward in a fury. “Argh!” There was a sharp pain in her ankle, and she could not help bending down to hold onto her thin ankle. It was not red or swollen, so it was probably just a sprained tendon, which would heal after she got some rest.

“Dramatic,” Damon said coldly. He probably saw what happened as well. He walked past Jeanette and strode forward first.

Jeanette glared at him and muttered “Jerk!” in a low voice. She then endured the pain as she followed in his footsteps. After a few steps, she could not stand the pain in her ankle, so she stopped again while holding on to a planter and stretching her ankles carefully.

Damon had already walked away but looked back at her with his dark and cold gaze. He slowed down and hesitated for a second. Finally, he turned around and walked back.

Jeanette was looking down at her ankle when she suddenly felt a shadow cast on the top of her head. She thought it was strange, but before she could raise her eyes to check the situation, her body was suddenly lifted, and someone carried her by the waist.

“Damon?” When Jeanette realized that he was holding her, her heart skipped a beat.

Damon’s face was cold, and there was no emotion at all. “You’re such a burden,” he said coldly and in aversion.

Jeanette’s heartbeat was still wild and thunderous, and even her face was a little hot. After two years of marriage, this was the first time Damon had taken the initiative to hold her…

“If I’m too much of a burden, just leave me alone...” She lowered her gaze. Her eyelashes were jet black, and she was unconsciously pouting. She looked wounded yet determined.

The bright sun shone quietly, and Jeanette’s skin looked like snow. Her black hair was as dark as ink, and the eyelashes around her big eyes looked especially alluring.

Damon lowered his eyes and took a glance before looking away immediately. Something rare and unusual just flashed across his normally cold and gloomy eyes.

Unfortunately, Jeanette was looking down and did not see it.
