Chapter 11

Jeanette lowered her head and took a glance as she wondered whether she sprained her ankle again while struggling last night. It looked red and swollen.

She sat on the side of the bed and rubbed her ankle for a while before putting on her slippers and going downstairs limply.

“Miss Jeanette, you just woke up?” The housekeeper had been waiting in the living room. She had been afraid that Jeanette might wake up in the middle of the night, so she stayed up all night. “The soup is still kept warm in the kitchen. I’ll bring you some.”

“Thank you.” Jeanette held on to the table for support as she sat down. Her body felt extremely uncomfortable, and she most probably would not be able to work today. Halfway through her meal, she asked her employer for a day off.

Jeanette pondered for a while before messaging Elias to make an appointment to check her red and swollen ankle later.

After the meal, Jeanette was planning to rest for a while before heading out. Unfortunately, her plans were interrupted by a phone call from Sylvia.

“Come to the Fordspring Hospital for a check-up at 11:00 p.m.”

Jeanette frowned and had a bad feeling in her heart. “What check-up?”

Sylvia thought it was obvious as she replied, “What else could it be? A fertility check-up, obviously! You’re still not pregnant after two years of marriage, so it must be your problem!”

Jeanette said calmly, “I don’t—”

Beep!

Sylvia had already hung up the phone.

Jeanette was furious because Sylvia never respected her. If she did not go to the hospital, she did not know what Sylvia would do in the future by bringing it up. Thus, she might as well just go and get the medical report that would prove she did not have any problems.

Jeanette could then shove it to her face to shut her up!

Jeanette soon changed and drove to the hospital, enduring the pain in her ankle.

Sylvia had arranged for them to meet at 11:00 p.m, but she was one hour late!

Jeanette waited until 12:00 p.m. when Sylvia finally appeared. Moreover, Madison was behind her, and she looked awfully smug.

Jeanette immediately clasped the strap of her handbag. Madison must have told Sylvia about her pregnancy.

Sure enough, the first thing Sylvia said was: “You don’t need to get the check-up anymore.”

Jeanette gnashed her teeth and said nothing.

Sylvia opened her handbag, took out a document, threw it at Jeanette, and snorted dismissively. “Your divorce agreement. Just sign it. The Godfrey family will give you $150,000 for the divorce.”

Jeanette picked up the printed document, and all she thought about was how glaring those black texts looked. She closed her eyes briefly, and when she opened them again, she said calmly, “I won’t sign the agreement.”

“You won’t sign it? What makes you think you can do that?” Sylvia was imposing. “Fine. If you don’t sign the agreement, then you need to give birth to a baby boy! Or else, you have to get a divorce!”

Jeanette threw the agreement on the chair and stood up straight. “No matter what you say, I’m not signing this agreement. If you don’t mind the mother of your grandson being a mistress, then you can let Madison do the job. It’ll save me the trouble.” She turned around and left after saying that.

“Jeanette, stop right there!” Sylvia grabbed her to stop her from leaving. “You’d better sign the agreement! You tried so hard to marry into our family for the money anyway, didn’t you? Fine, if you get divorced, I’ll give you $1,500,000. That should be enough, right?”

Jeanette pushed her hand away. “I won’t get a divorce even if you gave me $10,000,000!”

Sylvia barked, “Jeanette Leighton, have some shame! I already gave you a chance!”

They were arguing and yelling in the hospital, so the commotion attracted many passersby and onlookers.

Sylvia had a big ego, so she lowered her voice a little when she realized what was going on. “You’d better oblige and sign the agreement, and we’ll go our separate ways. Otherwise, don’t blame me for not treating you with respect in the future!”

Jeanette stood her ground. “I’m not signing it.”
