Chapter 7

Madison won, so she got into the elevator proudly while Jeanette was frozen solid at the door. She was pushed back and forth several times by passersby and patients who were rushing into the elevator.

Jeanette stood alone for a long time before closing her eyes forcefully, forcing herself to calm down and be rational. She then put on her usual calm facade again before entering the next available elevator.

She followed the instructions on the registration form and knocked on the doctor’s office door.

“Come in.” The male voice that responded sounded somewhat familiar.

Jeanette frowned as the name of an old friend popped up in her mind.

Jeanette took a glance after opening the door, and the doctor inside was indeed an acquaintance. “Elias? You came back from overseas?” Jeanette’s eyes widened in surprise.

The doctor behind the desk raised his head. His face looked delicate and fine, while his charming eyes were alluring. He was as handsome as a comic character.

“Jeanette!” He stood up with a charming, warm smile on the corners of his lips as he spread his arms and embraced Jeanette enthusiastically.

“When I saw the patient’s name, I was hoping it was you. Surprisingly, it really was you! It’s been so long!” He pressed Jeanette harder into his arms and looked excited.

Jeanette smiled and hugged him back. She and Elias were classmates in high school and university, and they had a very close relationship. When she had a crush on Damon, Elias had even helped her develop a plan to pursue Damon. Unfortunately, Jeanette did not end up using his plan.

After that, he went overseas, and she got married. Thus, their relationship slowly became more distant.

“Why didn’t you say anything when you came back?” Jeanette asked him after hugging him.

Elias pulled out the chair for Jeanette and replied, “I’ve been busy with work since I returned to the States, so I haven’t had time. Besides, didn’t you change your phone number?”

Jeanette smiled in embarrassment because she had not informed him about her new number.

After chatting for some time, Elias carefully examined her ankle and prescribed her medicine. He then insisted on sending Jeanette outside so she could take a taxi.

Jeanette could not refuse his kind offer, so she just went along. The injury on her ankle was not that bad to the extent that she could not walk alone, but Elias was stubborn and insisted on helping her walk outside.

She did not like the fact that he was so persistent. At the same time, it felt a little too intimate.

However, Elias refused to listen.

When he was holding Jeanette out of the hospital, he said with a sullen expression, “You can’t forget about your old friend just because you’re married! Don’t you remember that we were each other’s ‘ride or die’ when we copied each other’s homework?”

Jeanette was amused by him and shook her head helplessly.

“Besides, I’m a gentleman, so it’s my duty to take care of the damsel in distress,” Elias said while calling a taxi. He helped Jeanette get in the car. “Remember what you promised me. You’re buying me dinner. I’ll be waiting for your call.”

“Okay,” replied Jeanette. “You should head back. Aren’t there any patients waiting for you?”

Elias looked at Jeanette deeply and suddenly waved his hand. “Come here. I still have something very important that I haven’t told you.”

“What is it?” Jeanette leaned over doubtfully.

Elias’s thin lips curled up into a smirk. He suddenly squeezed Jeanette’s chin and gave her a big kiss on her cheek. It even made a lip-smacking sound!

Jeanette blushed instantly and slapped him on the chest angrily. “What are you doing!?”

Elias laughed out loud and said, “I’m happy to see you again, Jeanette!”

Jeanette rolled her eyes and closed the door. “Sir, start the car!”

She wanted to ignore the playboy who did not play by the rules and was never serious.

Elias finally turned his head after watching the taxi drive away. His hostile gaze met Damon’s sharp gaze from not that far away!
