Chapter 2

Ding—

When the elevator door opened, Jeanette blinked her eyes and walked out calmly.

As soon as she left the building, she saw a woman walking toward her. It was an unpleasant sight as she was none other than Madison Leighton, her half-sister.

“Oh, sister. Why are you here?” She looked Jeanette up and down with a smile, and there was a hint of arrogance on her face. “What happened? Did Damon kick you out again?”

Jeanette pursed her lips and wanted to ignore her. Still, she walked past her as she tried to leave.

“I’m pregnant.” Madison’s sudden announcement made Jeanette stop in her tracks. “It’s Damon’s child.”

Jeanette’s eyes trembled violently, but when she turned to look at Madison, her eyes returned to their usual state of calmness. “Oh? Should I congratulate you for being an unmarried and pregnant mistress? How shameless.”

When Madison heard that, her expression changed instantly, and she snapped. “Jeanette, wasn’t your mother a mistress too? Stop pretending to be all virtuous! You were born out of wedlock!”

Jeanette’s mother was not a mistress. Jeanette’s father had deceived her mother by hiding the fact he was married, and she had no choice but to give birth to her.

Jeanette withdrew her gaze indifferently. Her profile looked icy yet beautiful in the sun, and her long eyelashes curled alluringly. After a long time, she finally opened her mouth and said, “Madison, no matter what I do, I’ll never brazenly seduce a married man. What’s more, you went for your own biological sister’s husband! I see you’re getting better at being shameless.”

“You!” Madison was furious. She glared at Jeanette fiercely but could not seem to say anything to attack her for a long time.

Jeanette turned around and left without even looking at her.

“Jeanette, Damon will divorce you someday!” Madison shouted at Jeanette’s back, “He said that the person he hates the most in the world is you!”

Although Jeanette heard her, she closed her eyes quietly and picked up her pace to get into the car. She closed the door and window, started the car, and sped off as she left.

When the Godfrey Tower was finally out of her sight, she finally had the courage to reveal her bitter sorrow under her tense expression.

As the car stopped on the side of the road, she could help but lean on the steering wheel. She bit her lower lip tightly as she swallowed the bitter pain that Damon had left her.

It was the weekend at Villa Harmonia. Jeanette tried to call Damon several times, but she still could not reach him.

Today was the day she and Damon were supposed to meet his parents. They had never liked Jeanette, so she had to be extremely cautious and careful every time she met them. If she was late...

The ringtone of her phone suddenly rang sharply, interrupting her thoughts. She hurriedly picked up the phone and took a glance. It was a call from the Godfrey family residence.

Jeanette’s heart instantly sank.

She squeezed her fingers and answered the phone after calming herself down. “Hey, Mom.”

The person who was speaking on the other end of the phone was Damon’s mother, Sylvia Selman. “Jeanette, Damon came back already. You can drive over here by yourself.”

“What?” Jeanette was taken aback.

Did he just ditch her and go back home alone? Did he really hate seeing her that much?

“Jeanette, what’s the matter with you? You don’t take care of Damon, and now, both of you even come separately when you visit us back home. Do you actually want a divorce?” Sylvia started blaming her the second she opened her mouth, not bothering to ask the reason behind it all.

Jeanette was rendered speechless, yet she had no choice but to simply suffer in silence.

Why would she want a divorce? If she wanted to get a divorce, she would have already left the first time she found out that Damon had cheated on her. Why would she tolerate him up until now?

“Hurry up and come back. I’m utterly disappointed to have a daughter-in-law like you!” Sylvia snapped and hung up the phone.

Jeanette could only bite her lips and smile bitterly. She packed up and left the house.

Before she started driving, she pondered for a while, and in the end, she decided to take a taxi instead. Damon must have driven over there. If she drove too, they would definitely leave separately. When that happened, Sylvia would put the blame on her again.

However, because it was the weekend, the road was a little congested. When Jeanette arrived, it was already past twelve.

Unfortunately, she was late!
