Chapter 20

Emelda's POV

In a few minutes, we were done with the breakfast Jonathan prepared. Amazingly, the eggs were delicious.

I picked up my small black leathered bag containing some documents I was lucky to find in my box, and followed Jonathan out.

As our feet descended the stairs, the sound of my flat sandal heels echoed through the hallways.

I looked at Jonathan who was on his phone and my mind wandered back to the memories earlier in the kitchen.

It began to replay the events of that morning in my head.

The memory of Bryan's eyes on me, the way he had looked at me with something almost like affection, and the way his arms felt on my waist lingered like a ghostly image, haunting me even as I stepped down each stair and into the bright sunshine.

I wondered why Jonathan hadn't said anything to me yet.

As my mind continued to play the scene of my previous memories, a blush stole across my cheeks.
