Emelda's POVIn a few minutes, we were done with the breakfast Jonathan prepared. Amazingly, the eggs were delicious. I picked up my small black leathered bag containing some documents I was lucky to find in my box, and followed Jonathan out. As our feet descended the stairs, the sound of my flat sandal heels echoed through the hallways. I looked at Jonathan who was on his phone and my mind wandered back to the memories earlier in the kitchen. It began to replay the events of that morning in my head. The memory of Bryan's eyes on me, the way he had looked at me with something almost like affection, and the way his arms felt on my waist lingered like a ghostly image, haunting me even as I stepped down each stair and into the bright sunshine. I wondered why Jonathan hadn't said anything to me yet. As my mind continued to play the scene of my previous memories, a blush stole across my cheeks.
Jonathan's POV As soon as Emelda disappeared into the building through the glass door, my hand shot to my jacket pocket, my fingers grasping the cool metal of my phone.I quickly dialed the number for the HR head at the architectural firm, my voice steady and authoritative.“Good morning, Mr James on the line.” His voice transmitted across the phone."This is Jonathan Rodriguez," I said, without preamble. “Sir!.. Goo..good morning” The HR head answered in surprise and reverence as he stammered."There's a lady in for the interview, she should be in the waiting room by now. I need you to make sure she is offered the job position today. There are no ifs or buts about it. She will have the job."“Ye…yes sir, of course sir,” The HR head replied, his voice revealing that he was taken aback, but had quickly recovered as his tone turned deferential.“But sir, if you don't mind me asking, how will I k
Bryan's POV I sank into the couch, my body heavy with exhaustion and my mind a whirlpool of emotions. It was weird that I noticed the apartment was too quiet without Emelda, her presence an absence that seemed to echo in the silence.I sipped my coffee, its warmth doing nothing to ease the chill in my bones. As I stared out the window, my thoughts turned to the early hours of the morning, to the memory of Emelda sitting tensed before me on the bed, her naked body a temptation and a call. Her beauty, indeed, had been breathtaking, her vulnerability arousing and maddening all at once. I could still feel the way my heart had pounded, my blood thrumming with a savage desire that seemed to overwhelm my senses.Although I was drunk, it wasn't the alcohol in my body that made me want her. It was the deep desire and the beauty of her skin that called out to me. And yet, even as I had reached for her, my hands greedy and possessive, a small voice inside me had protested, reminding me tha
Jonathan's POVI watched as Emelda's gaze hardened, her eyes fixed on a figure across the street. Following her gaze, my eyes fell on Natasha, Emelda's spoiled and manipulative stepsister.Natasha's smile was cold and calculating, her eyes gleaming with malice as she locked eyes with Emelda.I felt a surge of protectiveness toward Emelda, a fierce need to defend her from her stepsister's spite.I moved closer to stand by Emelda's side, my body taut and ready for confrontation. As I stood beside Emelda, my body tense and ready for conflict, I could feel the heat of her body next to mine, the tension in her muscles as she prepared for the inevitable clash.Natasha approached, her footsteps light and mocking, her eyes full of derision."Well, well, well," she purred, her voice like honeyed poison. "If it isn't my dear stepsister, the naïve and gullible Emelda. What a pleasure to see you here."I stepped forward, my voice low and deadly. "Leave her alone, Natasha," I growled, my voice a
Bryan's POVThe music thudded in my ears as the red-dressed woman's body moved seductively against mine, but all I could think about was Emelda. Her innocence, her vulnerability, the sweetness of her smile... for some weird reason, my heart ached with longing for her as the thought of the previous night filled my mind. The woman in front of me seemed to sense my distraction, her eyes narrowing with suspicion."Is something wrong?" she asked, her voice calm and seductive as she touched my chin. I forced a smile, my hands running over her curves as I tried to refocus my attention. "No, everything's fine," damn it! I just lied. The woman in the red dress didn't seem convinced. She pressed herself closer to me, her lips grazing my ear as she whispered, "Are you sure there's nothing on your mind? You seem... distant, or do you want to go somewhere quiet?"I clenched my jaw, my hand tightening on her waist as I fought back the memories of Emelda that threatened to overwhelm me."I'm fine,"
Jonathan’s POVI listened patiently as Bryan's voice grew louder, his words filling the room with venom and spite."I can't believe she got the job, I can't believe you let that happen" he hissed, his face contorted in a snarl. "Don’t you understand that she'll be nothing but a distraction? A nuisance?"I stayed silent, watching Bryan as he paced the room, his hands balled into fists as he fumed."How can she even hope to keep up with the demands of the job?" he scoffed, his voice dripping with contempt."She's just a servant, a nobody," Bryan continued, his voice low and harsh. "And now she thinks she can just waltz into my world and pretend to be one of us? It's ridiculous."I could feel my temper flaring, my jaw tightening as I listened to his cruel words."Bryan, you're out of line," I said, my voice firm and even. "Emelda earned that job fair and square, and she deserves to be treated with respect."Bryan glared at me, his eyes hard and cold."Respect?" Bryan spat, his voice a mi
Emelda’s POVIt was six in the morning when my alarm clock blared from its speaker. Throwing my covers down, I quickly jumped off my bed. The alarm didn’t need to ring much, my natural body alarm mixed with the anxiety and happiness I felt left me almost sleepless for the night.I stared at the ceiling in my room and smiled sheepishly. This is it! Finally! My father would have been so proud.“Daddy I wish you were here with me to share in this success.” I said, the memories of my father’s death almost seemed to put a damper on my day, but I caught myself.“Breath in, Emelda.” I reprimanded myself. “No! I won’t allow myself to think of sad memories today.” Immediately, I shook off the sad countenance that seemed to be creeping up on me and let out a soft sigh.“Today is a big day! It would be my first day at the Elite-Marson firm and nothing is allowed to get into the way of pure productivity.” I uttered to myself as I stared at the ceiling. I jiggled my legs in excitement while s
Emelda's POV“So so sorry,” I immediately muttered, my words bitter and my cheeks burning as I watched my black leather bag topple to the floor, the clatter of its contents echoing loudly through the boardroom. My shattered heart tore further as I heard the suppressed giggles of my colleagues, one of them even whispering, "It's a wonder how she got the job."I quickly squatted, my stomach churned with embarrassment as I fumbled to gather my things, my hands shaking as I tried to regain my composure. But the damage was done. I felt like a fool, a bumbling imposter who didn't belong in this sleek, professional world. As I tried to gather my things, a young man of almost the same age as Bryan bent down beside me. “Let me help you with those,” he uttered softly as his dark brown eyes revealed the care locked inside of them. “I’m Jeffrey Romans,” he announced, his face bright with a soft smile as he handed my journal to me. “I… I… Emelda.” I managed to utter. “Here, let me help you.” H
