She hoped to take her daughter far, far away; while Ryan could finally achieve his happy ending with Mariah.

Thus, despite her daughter's cries, Silvia had to compose herself and console the little one. However, the tears still remained in her eyes when she spoke.

"Autumn, my dear, don't cry. Aunt Rosa’s sick, and I'm taking care of her for now. I won't be home tonight, so sleep with Papa, alright?"

Rosaline also had a child with her ex-husband, a little girl only two years older than Autumn. Rosaline managed to win custody over her daughter, but was currently busy with work.

Hence, Rosaline had to send her daughter to her parents so they could take care of the child in her stead.

Back then, Silvia would bring Autumn along to Rosaline's apartment. The two children played together a lot. Autumn was actually quite close with Rosaline.

For now, Silvia had no choice but to make up a white lie to comfort her daughter.

She initially thought her considerate child would understand after hearing about Rosaline's plight. Unexpectedly, Autumn started crying even louder.

"I don't wanna, I don't wanna!"

"I don't wanna sleep with Papa! Papa is so scary!"

Hearing this, Silvia instantly realized why her daughter was crying so much.

Ryan had never spent time with Autumn alone, even though he was in fact her biological father. In fact, he had never tucked her to bed. They never had any good memories of each other.

Their daughter was very distant with Ryan. It was no wonder she'd be so uncomfortable with him, especially since the man was likely in a bad mood at the time.

"Mama, save me," Autumn continued, wailing sadly.

It was clear as to how horrifying Ryan looked for the little one to beg her mother to save her.

A wave of pain and sorrow gushed into Silvia's chest. Tears poured out of her eyes once more, trickling down to her chin.

‘Just how much of a failure was I, as both wife and mother? How could our daughter have such a negative image of her own father?’

‘He probably doesn't love Autumn because he doesn't love me, right? He didn't want to bond with her because of this association… Even when…they have the same blood…’

Unable to listen to her daughter’s pleas any longer, Silvia made up her mind and yelled at Ryan. “I’m not going back tonight, so you comfort her!”

After that, she hung up and threw her phone aside, biting down on her lip to suppress the strong emotions swirling in her. Even then, the tears dripped down her face regardless.

Seeing this, Rosaline held her hand gently and said kindly, “Just cry it out if you want to. Cry it all out.”

As a fellow mother, Rosaline was familiar with the pain of separating with your own child.

She thought Silvia would continue crying, but the latter wiped her face dry quickly and forced a smile.

"I'm not going to cry. That's right, I won't! I'm releasing myself from that horrible marriage, after all! Why should I cry?" Her tone was stubborn and tough.

"I’ll never shed another tear for this again! I'm only sad because of Autumn, but I just need to endure one more night of heartache. Just one more. I've moved past this."

Rosaline sighed upon seeing Silvia’s firm expression. "You sure are quick to move on. It took me almost a whole year to do that. I've only managed to let go of the past recently, you know?"

When Rosaline found out about her ex-husband's indecent affair, she nearly fainted out of sheer shock.

Even after waking up, she suffered several mental breakdowns and nearly jumped off a building.

Now that Silvia showed that she could get over a five-year marriage so easily, Rosaline couldn't help but admire her good friend.

However, she had no idea that this was precisely because Silvia's heart had already been through all that pain during the relationship. Silvia no longer held out hope for her marriage, nor did she expect anything more from Ryan.

Just then, Silvia's phone started ringing again. The screen lit up; it was yet another call from Ryan.

She hung up immediately and turned her phone off. Before leaving the couch, she said, "I gotta take a shower. You have spare clothes I can borrow, right?"

Rosaline took a glance at the phone, and somewhat understood Silvia’s determination. Without saying much, she headed to her bedroom and rummaged through her closet for extra clothes.

Within Scholaris Street, loud bawling could be heard miles away from the playroom in Ryan and Silvia's manor.

"I want Mama, I want Mama!"

Ryan was standing next to the pink crib, looking upset and scruffy as he tried dialing Silvia's number over and over again.

Despite this, he was sent to voicemail every single time, reminding him that her phone was off.

He was a mess after fetching his daughter back home from the party. She was asleep at the time, so he had to carry her back to her room before showering.

However, soon came his daughter's cries, and he had no choice but to grab any clothing he could find before rushing out.

Autumn was quite a handful as well. She continually asked for her mother's comfort, but Silvia refused to come home.

He didn't have any experience in taking care of his daughter, especially since Silvia handled everything on her own.

His daughter would have been asleep by the time he came back from social events. Even if he got off work earlier than usual, he would hole himself up in the study to work more after dinner. He also went on quite a few business trips throughout the year.

Having spent the least amount of time possible together and with zero experience with children, Ryan was an absolute wreck. He had no idea what to do.

At first, he tried comforting Autumn. However, his patience wore thin when he realized Silvia was nowhere to be found. It didn't help that his daughter was still bawling her eyes out.

'Autumn’s usually such a good and clever child. Why is she being so difficult today?' he wondered.

He was already humiliated at the party earlier. All this incessant crying and screaming was only adding fuel into the fire that was his anger.

However, he didn't expect Silvia to make him comfort Autumn alone, let alone tell him that she wouldn't be coming home that night.

'I tried suppressing my anger to call her, and this is what I got?!'

'How could I possibly calm this girl down when I've never done it before? She doesn't even sound like she'd stop crying any time soon!'

The closest interaction Ryan had with his daughter was when she greeted him at the door. Autumn would always stand there with a big smile and wish him good luck at work, or welcome him home from work. That was the limit to their affection for one another. Many times, Ryan simply chose to not show any affection towards his daughter, even going as far as to avoid looking directly at her adorable face. Autumn simply looked way too similar to Silvia; it was as if they were carbon copies of each other. They even had the same expressions and attitude; especially that godforsaken smile. He didn't understand how they had so much positivity in their hearts, or how they always had the energy to be so bubbly all the time. He felt like he would be blinded by their bright smiles the moment he laid eyes on them.He disliked the mother and daughter in that regard. Hence, he refused to have any interactions with them. However, someone's smile had faded through time and her light was dimmed as w

As soon as he washed up and put on a clean suit, he once again appeared as the cold and heartless CEO.Exiting the master bedroom, he scanned their lavish apartment unit; the absolute silence haunted his very being.Normally, the entire place would be filled with the lovely aroma of coffee by the time he woke up, and in the kitchen would stand a certain woman. She would always be busy making breakfast for the entire family.Knowing that he loved drinking coffee, Silvia bought a coffee machine so that she could personally make him a cup every single morning. Ryan gritted his teeth throughout the entire time he read the divorce settlement. It seemed Silvia only wanted custody of their daughter, and nothing more.He scoffed while clutching onto his mouse. 'Ha, how nice of her to not demand anything. Does she even realize what’ll happen to her after divorcing?''Once we're divorced, she'll be rid of her title as Mrs. Pierce and has to leave the Pierce family.''She has no talent or skill to her name, since she married me the moment she graduated university. She's never worked a single job, and naturally wouldn't have experience in any field.' 'Detroit’s filled with smart, talented and experienced people, so it's entirely possible she'd have difficulty finding a job in the first place.''She wants custody of our daughter? And what is she going to raise her with?''So how could I possibly leave Autumn in her hands?'He knew well that their daughter was Silvia's soft spot. Back then, Silvia had been so deeply in love that she didn’t care how deep the fall was. She had always stubbornly insisted that their relationship would improve after marriage, even more so after she gave birth to his child.'My parents, grandparents, and many other marriages started out this way. They worked out, didn't they?' That was what she told herself at that time.'Many couples have fallen deeply in love and experienced many obstacles in their lives. But at the very end of it, most of them continue striving in their relationship just to raise their children well. Isn't that the case most of the time?'However, she had no idea that Ryan's heart was made of stone. No matter how much she tried to love and please the man, he didn't reciprocate her feelings at all. With Silvia hanging up on him again, Ryan got so angry that he slammed the landline phone back in place. Then, he flung himself backwards into his chair. Pinching his nose bridge, he thought furiously, 'Just look a

When Rosaline finally went to work, Silvia had already slept through her entire afternoon. After that, she got out of bed and made some lunch for herself, and then used Rosaline’s computer to look for jobs online. She initially thought Ryan would happily agree to divorce, and she’d be able to leave Detroit with her daughter. She intended to settle down at her parents’ place, which was in a rural area at the outskirts of Detroit and about an hour away from the city center. She was hoping she could find a job in that area after her daughter got used to her parents’ place. She was determined to never go back to Detroit. There was nothing here that she’d stay for, nor anyone she couldn’t bear to part with. Hence, it was meaningless for her to linger. After becoming a mother, she knew how difficult parenthood was and could understand familial relationships even more now. Hence, after her failed marriage, the only place she could go was to her parents’.Now that Ryan wished to fight for

It’s your responsibility to provide for them, so I didn’t mind. But how did you make it up to me? You forced Ryan to give up on the girl he liked just so her son could have what he wanted, as per usual.”“I completely gave up any hope I held for you in my heart since then.”Ophelia was still rather soft-spoken when saying all this, but it was enough to make Greg’s heart sting.“Ryan’s marriage ended up in a divorce…because of you. Silvia knew it all along. She knew he had always seen her as a complete mistake. It was her fault he couldn’t stay with Mariah, and it was her fault he was unhappy. Their marriage, their divorce, along with his parents’ divorce; everything was all her fault. Her heart had already gone through the pain of disappointment, so she didn’t respond to his accusations. Instead, she merely lowered her head and bit down on his hand, forcing him to let go of her out of pain. The deep teeth marks on his flesh were more than enough to represent the silent rage she held for him.Ryan froze in place, his mind filled with sheer disbelief that she would actually bite him. However, he couldn’t help but feel a wave of panic as he watched her walk further outside. She wasn’t even turning her head to check on him.He had always thought that she couldn’t possibly bear separating from her daughter, but she didn’t seem to back down from getting a divorce even after he told her he’d fight for custody.

From his point of view, him taking the initiative by voluntarily explaining that he never intended to go back to Mariah was the equivalent of begging her to stay by. He couldn’t find any fault in himself.‘But no, she just had to be greedy. She just had to ask if I love her or not! How could I not be angry?’‘Fine, then. If that’s how she wants to play it, I won’t let her off easy either.’ He dialed a number and gave out some orders. “Contact her lawyer for me. Tell them that I’d be coming by tomorrow.”‘Let’s see how she’s going to take me to court when she doesn’t even have a lawyer to begin with.’Ditching her old car, Silvia called a cab back to Rosaline’s place.Rosaline had previously allowed her to stay at her place temporarily. Her apartment was a small unit containing two bedrooms, which was just enough for the two of them. It used to be her and her ex-husband’s property, and Silvia was the one who helped Rosaline hire a lawyer to fight for the ownership of this place.

She opened the door and walked out stealthily, out of fear that she would wake Helena up, and Helena would find out that she was going down to meet Rowan in the middle of the night. Helena would surely think that this kind of behavior was inappropriate. When passing by the living room, Evelyn glanced in the direction of Helena’s bedroom. The lights had been turned off, so she was probably asleep. Helena’s physical condition was not as good as it was before the surgery. After all, she was getting older and had undergone craniotomy, which was a major surgery, so she could not keep up mentally and physically. She would go to bed very early at night and wake up late in the morning. After Evelyn left the house quietly, sh

She laughed loudly when she was happy, shed tears when she was sad, never hid her true self, and was a frank and sincere person. Why wouldn’t men like such a girl?Rowan laughed. He did not mean to slander Selena; he was simply analyzing Selena’s current situation from his perspective as a man. Selena might indeed be a good girl in Evelyn’s eyes. After all, Evelyn was a woman who only cared about Selena’s personality, but men paid more attention to a woman’s temperament and charm sometimes. Everyone naturally had their own preferences. For example, Rowan preferred someone simple like Evelyn, whereas some men might prefer someone with a stronger personality like Selena. Evelyn had to call Charles after she could not reach Selena. “Charles, is Selena home? I can’t seem to reach her on her cell phone.”Charles frowned when he heard Evelyn’s words. “She’s not back yet. He was wrong. He was really wrong. He treated the person he wanted to protect so coldly and harshly. It seemed that he had not been in a relationship for too long that he had forgotten how to love. Fortunately, it only took him this once to understand the crux of his problem. Therefore, he stroked her cheek gently and reassured her in a deep voice, “It won’t happen again.”Evelyn chose to smile slightly in relief in response to his apology and assurance. When two people are together, they need to understand and accommodate each other in terms of personality, temperament, and living habits. Since they had only officially been together for a day, this was even more essential for them. As he said, he was an ordinary man, and she was an ordinary woman. Their relationship was that of an ordinary couple, so it was normal for them to quarrel, have disagreements, and lose their temper. Evelyn felt that there was nothing that could not be solved as long as it did not involve principles

“Getting dinner!” Rowan announced angrily, then he placed her in the passenger seat, got into the car, and drove away. Evelyn had no other objections since they were going to eat. Anyway, she had already called Helena earlier to tell her that she would not be going back for dinner tonight as she would be having dinner with Selena. Not long after the two had gotten into the car and driven out, Selena called and asked Evelyn worriedly, “Evelyn, how did it go? Did you manage to coax him yet?”As Rowan was sitting next to her, Evelyn could not answer whether she had managed to coax him. Therefore, she hesitated without saying anything. When Selena heard this, she knew that they must not have reconciled yet, so she gave her advice on the other end of the line. “It’s fine. There’s no man that can’t be coaxed. Just one kiss will do. If he still can’t be coaxed, give him two kisses. If that doesn’t work, just kiss him all over until he’s no longer angry!”Selena’s voice was loud enough,
