“Now that the children are back, let’s have one last talk then and get everything off our chests.”

“Lia…” Greg didn’t want Ophelia to go down that topic, but she seemed insistent.

“After finding out you’ve been providing for those two behind my back and had arranged for them to live in another country, there was only disgust left in my heart for you.”

Greg furrowed his eyebrows upon hearing this, but Ophelia continued speaking in a calm tone.

“I tried comforting myself later on, because you’ve had a child with her and they’re still part of your past. It’s your responsibility to provide for them, so I didn’t mind. But how did you make it up to me? You forced Ryan to give up on the girl he liked just so her son could have what he wanted, as per usual.”

“I completely gave up any hope I held for you in my heart since then.”

Ophelia was still rather soft-spoken when saying all this, but it was enough to make Greg’s heart sting.

“Ryan’s marriage ended up in a divorce…because of you. It’s not a stretch to say you were the one who caused all of this. You should know how it feels to marry someone you don’t love, so why did you force your own son to do the same?”

Many women would become extremely tough as soon as they were given the role as a mother. Hence, it was only when mentioning her son’s failed relationship did she somewhat express her resentment towards Greg.

“Are you happy torturing my son like this?”

Greg panickedly denied. “No! I never once wanted to torture Ryan. He’s my son too!”

He then paused slightly to collect himself, then met Ophelia’s gaze with a serious face. “My experience tells me that a relationship can be built, given that you spend enough time together! That’s why I forced Ryan to marry Silvia. I thought he’d fall in love with her with time!”

Logically speaking, Greg had indirectly admitted that he fell for Ophelia long ago, and was once again professing his love for her.

However, Ophelia didn’t seem happy in the slightest. Instead, she chuckled sarcastically and sneered, “So you’re saying you’ve fallen in love with me?”

Greg proceeded to just stand there silently, not denying anything this time.

Suddenly, tears started trickling down Ophelia’s cheeks. Despite that, she spoke in a firm tone.

“What a shame, you’re too late. I’ve lost all the love I once had for you.”

“Greg Pierce, I wouldn’t mind sharing a grave with you when we pass. But while you’re alive, I don’t want to spend even a second with you.”

After that, she turned and left with her luggage.

Greg was so shocked by her harsh words that he felt faint. He supported himself by leaning against the table next to him.

Seeing this, Nora immediately helped her father maintain balance.

Silvia, who had been silent the entire time, was very shocked to hear her mother-in-law's cruel words and to witness how frosty the woman’s expression was. It was only then did she truly believe that Nora was telling her the truth about Ophelia’s decision to divorce.

In all honesty, Silvia never expected her own divorce to affect another's marriage, let alone the marriage between an old couple. Feeling rather guilty, she tried stopping Ophelia, reaching her arm out. “Mother, wai-”

Yet, she realized that she was the last person who should persuade her mother-in-law to stay, as she was the one determined to divorce at the start.

Thus, she could only look helplessly towards Ryan, hoping he could stop her somehow.

However, she was met with a dirty glare instead. Ryan shifted the responsibility onto his sister. “Nora, take Mom to your place for now!”

Ryan was absolutely appalled by his mother’s words. He understood why his mother was so resolute about the divorce, and figured that it would be best for the old couple to separate temporarily for now. At the very least, they needed to calm down.

Nora had her own place, so it was more appropriate for the mother to live with her daughter for the time being. Although Ryan wished for his mother to live with him at first, he realized he was still in a messy situation with Silvia and gave up on that plan.

Receiving his orders, Nora sat her daughter down on the couch and helped her mother with the luggage, leaving straightaway. Greg, on the other hand, was unwilling to let the two go. However, he simply couldn’t do anything about it.

With that, only Silvia, Ryan, and Greg remained in the spacious living room.

The atmosphere was heavy, as Ryan’s relationship with Greg was already quite tense. Now that his mother was persistent in divorcing his father, he obviously wouldn’t look any friendlier by choice.

After some pondering, Silvia decided to break the silence, turning to Greg. “I’m so sorry, Mr. Greg.”

She was the reason Ophelia sought a divorce, after all.

On the other hand, Greg seemed frail as he sighed on the couch. He smiled sadly, shaking his head lightly. “I should be the one apologizing. You’re an amazing girl, and I’ve wronged you.”

The old man seemed to have more to say, but the words were replaced with a long sigh instead.

“It’s alright. I can’t even protect my own marriage, so I can’t do anything about yours. Just do whatever you need to.” He headed upstairs, his demeanor exceedingly lovely.

Greg had always been caring and loving towards Silvia. She was only able to successfully approach and marry Ryan because she had his full support.

Hence, hearing him say that made her feel rather sorrowful as well.

She used to be bold and bright, so much so that she was confident that she could make Ryan fall for her. She even went as far as to promise Greg that she'd make Ryan the happiest man on Earth.

Five years later, she ended up being the one to give up first. Not only did she fail to make Ryan happy, but even her own happiness had been shredded away as time passed.

It was simply natural for her to give up on such an unhappy marriage, especially when both parties held resentment for each other.

Silvia was deep in thought after Greg left. She was too occupied drowning in her sadness, and didn’t realize Ryan’s intense gaze on her.

Once she finally snapped out of her thoughts, she soon realized that they were the only two left in the room.

She never planned to interact with Ryan at all, so she simply avoided his gaze and walked away. However, she was suddenly grabbed by the wrist, as a low growl sounded through her ears.

“Where are you going?”

“That’s none of your business!” Silvia snarled as she tried to struggle out of his grasp.

Her dismissive tone made him even angrier, which made him drag her towards him, forcing her to face him.

At such a close distance, Silvia could see the veins popping out on his forehead. He really was insane; his jaw was clenched as well.

“Are you satisfied now? Look what you’ve done to my family! It’s a mess!”

‘Of course he thinks it’s my fault again,’ she thought.

Silvia knew it all along. She knew he had always seen her as a complete mistake. It was her fault he couldn’t stay with Mariah, and it was her fault he was unhappy. Their marriage, their divorce, along with his parents’ divorce; everything was all her fault. Her heart had already gone through the pain of disappointment, so she didn’t respond to his accusations. Instead, she merely lowered her head and bit down on his hand, forcing him to let go of her out of pain. The deep teeth marks on his flesh were more than enough to represent the silent rage she held for him.Ryan froze in place, his mind filled with sheer disbelief that she would actually bite him. However, he couldn’t help but feel a wave of panic as he watched her walk further outside. She wasn’t even turning her head to check on him.He had always thought that she couldn’t possibly bear separating from her daughter, but she didn’t seem to back down from getting a divorce even after he told her he’d fight for custody.

From his point of view, him taking the initiative by voluntarily explaining that he never intended to go back to Mariah was the equivalent of begging her to stay by. He couldn’t find any fault in himself.‘But no, she just had to be greedy. She just had to ask if I love her or not! How could I not be angry?’‘Fine, then. If that’s how she wants to play it, I won’t let her off easy either.’ He dialed a number and gave out some orders. “Contact her lawyer for me. Tell them that I’d be coming by tomorrow.”‘Let’s see how she’s going to take me to court when she doesn’t even have a lawyer to begin with.’Ditching her old car, Silvia called a cab back to Rosaline’s place.Rosaline had previously allowed her to stay at her place temporarily. Her apartment was a small unit containing two bedrooms, which was just enough for the two of them. It used to be her and her ex-husband’s property, and Silvia was the one who helped Rosaline hire a lawyer to fight for the ownership of this place.

Ryan seemed disgusted as he tugged on her shirt gently, chuckling. “Let me give you some advice while we’re at it. Not just any man out there can provide the life I gave you!”Silvia found his expression extremely distasteful. He was basically telling her she couldn’t survive in this world without him. He suggested that it was best to stop her ‘tantrum’ and to stay in her lane; to stay as Mrs. Pierce. His arrogance and false sense of superiority definitely stemmed from her obsession with him in the past. However, seeing and hearing all of this now just made her so furious that she began trembling; she even felt her vision blurring out for a second.‘Does he think I’m that useless?’‘I was a valedictorian back in university! I graduated with first honors as a Chinese Mandarin major! And I had been quite active in other school activities as the head of the art department within the student council!’‘If I hadn’t married him, I would’ve been a bright young white-collar woman by now!

“Nope, just these! I don’t feel cold, though. I swear!” In face of her mother’s questioning, Autumn insisted on saying she wasn’t cold. Just then, a gust of wind breezed through, causing her to wrap her chubby arms around herself. She quickly lowered her head out of guilt from lying.Autumn then admitted that she wanted to wear this outfit for quite some time, but her mother had always made her wear that coat with every outfit she wore. She thought the coat was ugly, so she just wore whatever she wanted when her mother wasn’t home.Silvia was fuming. She lectured Ryan as soon as he was near. “Pierce, would it kill you to give Autumn an extra coat during cold weather?!”Ryan, however, was already in a bad mood. The sudden scolding irked him even more, and he snapped, “She wanted to wear this, so what does that have to do with me? How could she not know if she’s cold or not?”Silvia was so angry that tears formed in her eyes. “She’s three years old, for pity’s sake! How could she e

Autumn blinked her big doe eyes, not thinking much as she said, “Mama said she’s not going home anymore. My classmate Jamie told us his parents don’t live together, and he said it’s because they’re divorced.”Silvia didn’t know if she should feel sad after hearing this from her daughter. The divorce rate had been increasing rapidly throughout the years, so much so that little children are used to the topic at this point. They might not understand the concept of divorce, but somehow, the word had already been added into the dictionary in their minds.Ryan, however, was narrowing his eyes. It was clear he was shocked by his daughter’s unexpected explanation as well, as she shouldn’t have had to learn something like this at such an early age.The two adults couldn’t bring themselves to say anything when faced with their naive daughter’s words. Before they could come up with an appropriate answer, the little girl spoke up once more. “I know you’ll ask me who I’d choose to stay with,

For some inexplicable reason, Ryan felt a dull ache in his heart as he watched Silvia carrying her daughter away from the rearview mirror. He felt especially suffocated as he watched Autumn putting her head against Silvia's shoulder, while repeatedly looking back at his car with a sad, disappointed gaze. She looked exceedingly lonely, yet was considerate enough to not throw a tantrum over her current plight. Not long after Silvia left with her daughter, she heard Ryan's phone chiming from behind once more. She was absolutely sure that it was the mistress urging him to see her right away. Her instinct told her that Mariah knew about Ryan's plans on picking up their daughter, as well as the fact that they would bump into each other. Hence, the mistress had likely thought of an excuse to have him leave.'I think Sommers was crying during the call. Hah! I cried in front of him earlier too, but it was nothing to him. After her call with her parents, Silvia received a notification that five thousand dollars had been transferred into her bank account. It was from her mother. Right after that, she received a text.[Use this money for the divorce proceedings. It's best not to use Ryan’s money anymore, especially when you've already made your final decision.]Clutching to her phone as she stared at her mother's message, Silvia bit her lips as tears silently fell down her cheeks. Her parents’ enthusiasm regarding her divorce showed that they had long recognized the problems within her marriage. Yet, Silvia was still foolishly trying to stay with Ryan. When Rosaline returned, Silvia informed the former that she needed to go back to Ryan's place to pack some things. Being a good friend, Rosaline happily agreed to look after Autumn while Silvia was away. Before heading out, Silvia checked on her daughter, only to realize that Autumn’s cheeks were flushed and that her body was burning up quickly. Her lawyer sounded quite apologetic as he said, "I'm so sorry, Mrs. Pierce. I've been way too busy with work lately, and I have to go on a business trip soon. I don't think I can take on your divorce case with Mr. Pierce. Please hire someone else instead."Hearing him call her Mrs. Pierce made Silvia wince in disgust. She wondered to herself, 'He clearly knows I'm going to divorce with Pierce. What does he even mean by calling me that?''He had always referred to me as Miss Alberich when he contacted me in the past.'Silvia was never one to nitpick on someone else's behavior, so she didn't express her discomfort about it. Instead, she tried to persuade the lawyer in hopes he would change his mind, as it would be too tedious to change lawyers at this point."Mr. Smith-"Before she could say anything further, the lawyer quickly hung up after apologizing once more. Evelyn was worried about this, but Rowan did not take it seriously as he said, “This small amount of snow is nothing.”Evelyn was extremely worried. The temperature was so low now, so the road must be icy. The snow was too heavy and would block his sight. Evelyn did not want him to be in any danger, so she suggested in a low voice, “It’s better if you don’t go back.”Rowan looked at her in surprise and smiled as he asked, “Where will I stay if I don’t go back? Do you want me to stay in the car all night?”Evelyn shook her head and said, “Y-You can go home with me.”She had just taken the initiative to invite a man to spend the night at her home. It was truly embarrassing for a shy girl like Evelyn to say these words, but she was willing to do so for his safety.“My mother should be asleep now, and she wakes up later in the morning. She held her cell phone and said hurriedly, “I’ll go down right now.”She ended the call and hurriedly put on her down jacket. She was wearing warm and soft polar fleece home clothes. She did not have time to change, so she simply put on a down jacket and went out. She opened the door and walked out stealthily, out of fear that she would wake Helena up, and Helena would find out that she was going down to meet Rowan in the middle of the night. Helena would surely think that this kind of behavior was inappropriate. When passing by the living room, Evelyn glanced in the direction of Helena’s bedroom. The lights had been turned off, so she was probably asleep. Helena’s physical condition was not as good as it was before the surgery. After all, she was getting older and had undergone craniotomy, which was a major surgery, so she could not keep up mentally and physically. She would go to bed very early at night and wake up late in the morning. After Evelyn left the house quietly, sh

She laughed loudly when she was happy, shed tears when she was sad, never hid her true self, and was a frank and sincere person. Why wouldn’t men like such a girl?Rowan laughed. He did not mean to slander Selena; he was simply analyzing Selena’s current situation from his perspective as a man. Selena might indeed be a good girl in Evelyn’s eyes. After all, Evelyn was a woman who only cared about Selena’s personality, but men paid more attention to a woman’s temperament and charm sometimes. Everyone naturally had their own preferences. For example, Rowan preferred someone simple like Evelyn, whereas some men might prefer someone with a stronger personality like Selena. Evelyn had to call Charles after she could not reach Selena. “Charles, is Selena home? I can’t seem to reach her on her cell phone.”Charles frowned when he heard Evelyn’s words. “She’s not back yet. He was wrong. He was really wrong. He treated the person he wanted to protect so coldly and harshly. It seemed that he had not been in a relationship for too long that he had forgotten how to love. Fortunately, it only took him this once to understand the crux of his problem. Therefore, he stroked her cheek gently and reassured her in a deep voice, “It won’t happen again.”Evelyn chose to smile slightly in relief in response to his apology and assurance. When two people are together, they need to understand and accommodate each other in terms of personality, temperament, and living habits. Since they had only officially been together for a day, this was even more essential for them. As he said, he was an ordinary man, and she was an ordinary woman. Their relationship was that of an ordinary couple, so it was normal for them to quarrel, have disagreements, and lose their temper. Evelyn felt that there was nothing that could not be solved as long as it did not involve principles

“Getting dinner!” Rowan announced angrily, then he placed her in the passenger seat, got into the car, and drove away. Evelyn had no other objections since they were going to eat. Anyway, she had already called Helena earlier to tell her that she would not be going back for dinner tonight as she would be having dinner with Selena. Not long after the two had gotten into the car and driven out, Selena called and asked Evelyn worriedly, “Evelyn, how did it go? Did you manage to coax him yet?”As Rowan was sitting next to her, Evelyn could not answer whether she had managed to coax him. Therefore, she hesitated without saying anything. When Selena heard this, she knew that they must not have reconciled yet, so she gave her advice on the other end of the line. “It’s fine. There’s no man that can’t be coaxed. Just one kiss will do. If he still can’t be coaxed, give him two kisses. If that doesn’t work, just kiss him all over until he’s no longer angry!”Selena’s voice was loud enough,

As for Shane, who was to be introduced to Evelyn, he simply stood there leisurely the whole time, looking at the three of them as if he was watching a good show. He watched as they got jealous, explained themselves, and felt depressed.
