Silvia knew it all along. She knew he had always seen her as a complete mistake.

It was her fault he couldn’t stay with Mariah, and it was her fault he was unhappy. Their marriage, their divorce, along with his parents’ divorce; everything was all her fault.

Her heart had already gone through the pain of disappointment, so she didn’t respond to his accusations. Instead, she merely lowered her head and bit down on his hand, forcing him to let go of her out of pain.

The deep teeth marks on his flesh were more than enough to represent the silent rage she held for him.

Ryan froze in place, his mind filled with sheer disbelief that she would actually bite him. However, he couldn’t help but feel a wave of panic as he watched her walk further outside.

She wasn’t even turning her head to check on him.

He had always thought that she couldn’t possibly bear separating from her daughter, but she didn’t seem to back down from getting a divorce even after he told her he’d fight for custody.

This time, her resoluteness made him very uneasy.

Ignoring the pain on his hand, he strode over and easily used his tall figure to block the exit.

“Let’s talk!” he demanded, staring at her with furrowed eyebrows.

Since last night, all he had ever done was insult and ridicule her; as if he was certain that she wouldn’t get her way. Thus, Silvia couldn’t possibly have anything to say to him. She didn't even want to look him in the eye.

“Just talk to my lawyer.”

After saying that, she walked past him. However, she felt a sudden grip around her waist. In an instant, she was lifted from the ground, as he carried her forcefully on his shoulder.

Frightened, she shrieked and tried struggling out as hard as she could. “What the hell are you doing?! Put me down!”

Her screams were completely disregarded as Ryan brought her upstairs. He had a room of his own in the old manor as well, and that was where he was carrying her to.

Hanging from his shoulders, Silvia was feeling slightly dizzy from being hurled around. She was so angry that she started attacking his back. “Ryan Pierce! You despicable, rude bastard!”

She wasn’t a modest woman, anyway. In the past, she presented herself as a shy little damsel because she was trying to win his heart.

Now that she was determined to get a divorce, she didn’t care much about her image in front of him anymore.

“Me? Rude?” Ryan huffed as he kicked open his bedroom door, tossing her onto the large bed harshly. He then shoved his bitten hand right before her face.

Silvia, on the other hand, sat up in a hurry and took a slight glance at his hand. She turned her head to the side, knowing full well she was indeed rude to have attacked him that way.

She knew just how hard she bit down on him, as she had basically released all her pent up anger on it. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to give him such deep teeth marks.

This was the first time she had ever attacked him as well.

Back then, she would always do as he said and loved him with all her heart. There was no way she would ever have the intention to hurt him.

In the past, Ryan would accidentally get a small wound sometimes when it was time for an inspection at the company’s construction sites. Even that was enough to make her heart ache badly for him.

Yet now, seeing the dents in his flesh that she made, she didn’t feel anything but a sense of satisfaction. It seemed her heart had changed, since she no longer hoped for his love. As a result, she no longer cherished him as she did before.

“I never wanted to get back together with her. You were the one forcing your assumptions on me,” he said in his usual deep, cold voice, breaking the awkwardness of their silence.

Silvia was stunned and turned her head to look at him. She never expected him to say that; it was as if he was trying to explain himself to her.

He had taken his coat and tie off, leaving only a fitted white dress shirt on his torso. At that moment, his eyes were fixated on her.

However, Silvia couldn’t help but find him absolutely ridiculous, no matter what he said and was going to say next.

“That was never the point. You only hurt me because you did nothing when she was begging to get back together with you. If you’ve never intended to get back together with her, why didn’t you just reject her when she was basically professing her love for you?”

“Why didn’t you tell her that you have a wife? A child? Or maybe responsibilities towards your family?!”

“Your silence was enough to give her permission to cross the line.”

Silvia sounded rather agitated as she questioned him bluntly.

She thought to herself. ‘This man doesn’t know how hurtful it can be when a woman has to endure his silence, when all she needed was reassurance. It’s even worse than knowing that he had his eyes on someone else.’

Silvia had always been the type to go all or nothing when it comes to love, so she couldn’t accept the ambiguity within Ryan and Mariah’s relationship.

That was why she was certain she had to leave. As a stinging pain welled up in her chest, she said, “So even if you never wanted to date her again, I’ll still go through with the divorce. Because… I’m nothing to you.”

Her past self was so naive, so foolish to think that he would be moved by her genuine love and her efforts to make the marriage work.

‘What stupidity to think that he’d ever love me, that we’d ever be happy…’

That was why Silvia gave her all, shamelessly clinging to him and chasing after him. Not only was she confident in herself, but she even said she’d do her best to barge into his heart even if he never did have a place for her in there. She wanted to fill his heart entirely so he would only have eyes for her.

Thinking back, she had no other words to describe herself apart from foolish. She was exhausted now, especially since she had chased after him for so many years.

Her words made Ryan’s eyes darken as he continued staring at her. She looked him in the eye, smiling sarcastically as she asked, “Well? Do you love me, Pierce?”

Ryan visibly froze, but remained silent as he pressed his lips into a thin line; his silence acting as the best answer she could ever get.

‘He doesn’t. He never has,’ she thought to herself, finally letting the last bit of hope in her dying.

Silvia tried her best to keep herself composed, so that she wouldn’t look like a complete loser.

“If you don’t love me, then it shouldn’t matter to you if I stay in this marriage or not. In my opinion, losing someone you love feels like losing a part of your soul.”

“I’m sure you know what that feels like. Remember how sad you were back then? How you got drunk on the streets when Mariah broke up with yo-”

Before she could finish her sentence, Ryan interrupted her with a loud yell. “Alberich!”

It was likely that he felt shameful to hear her expose his disgraceful past actions in such a way. He felt so shameful that he lashed out, his expression filled with sheer annoyance and frustration as he threatened her.

“Don’t act like you know anything! Stop before I make you regret it!”

That was enough for Silvia to end their conversation. She lifted her gaze and smiled coldly. “Alright, I’ll just have to wait and see how you’ll make me regret it.”

After that, she rushed down the stairs without looking back. This time, she didn’t even take the car with her.

A while later, Ryan received a text from her, saying, [The car’s yours, so I’m returning it back to you.]

Ryan nearly threw his phone out the window when he saw that text message. ‘This wasn’t what I wanted at all! I just wanted to talk, but it made things even worse.’

From his point of view, him taking the initiative by voluntarily explaining that he never intended to go back to Mariah was the equivalent of begging her to stay by. He couldn’t find any fault in himself.‘But no, she just had to be greedy. She just had to ask if I love her or not! How could I not be angry?’‘Fine, then. If that’s how she wants to play it, I won’t let her off easy either.’ He dialed a number and gave out some orders. “Contact her lawyer for me. Tell them that I’d be coming by tomorrow.”‘Let’s see how she’s going to take me to court when she doesn’t even have a lawyer to begin with.’Ditching her old car, Silvia called a cab back to Rosaline’s place.Rosaline had previously allowed her to stay at her place temporarily. Her apartment was a small unit containing two bedrooms, which was just enough for the two of them. It used to be her and her ex-husband’s property, and Silvia was the one who helped Rosaline hire a lawyer to fight for the ownership of this place.

Ryan seemed disgusted as he tugged on her shirt gently, chuckling. “Let me give you some advice while we’re at it. Not just any man out there can provide the life I gave you!”Silvia found his expression extremely distasteful. He was basically telling her she couldn’t survive in this world without him. He suggested that it was best to stop her ‘tantrum’ and to stay in her lane; to stay as Mrs. Pierce. His arrogance and false sense of superiority definitely stemmed from her obsession with him in the past. However, seeing and hearing all of this now just made her so furious that she began trembling; she even felt her vision blurring out for a second.‘Does he think I’m that useless?’‘I was a valedictorian back in university! I graduated with first honors as a Chinese Mandarin major! And I had been quite active in other school activities as the head of the art department within the student council!’‘If I hadn’t married him, I would’ve been a bright young white-collar woman by now!

“Nope, just these! I don’t feel cold, though. I swear!” In face of her mother’s questioning, Autumn insisted on saying she wasn’t cold. Just then, a gust of wind breezed through, causing her to wrap her chubby arms around herself. She quickly lowered her head out of guilt from lying.Autumn then admitted that she wanted to wear this outfit for quite some time, but her mother had always made her wear that coat with every outfit she wore. She thought the coat was ugly, so she just wore whatever she wanted when her mother wasn’t home.Silvia was fuming. She lectured Ryan as soon as he was near. “Pierce, would it kill you to give Autumn an extra coat during cold weather?!”Ryan, however, was already in a bad mood. The sudden scolding irked him even more, and he snapped, “She wanted to wear this, so what does that have to do with me? How could she not know if she’s cold or not?”Silvia was so angry that tears formed in her eyes. “She’s three years old, for pity’s sake! How could she e

Autumn blinked her big doe eyes, not thinking much as she said, “Mama said she’s not going home anymore. My classmate Jamie told us his parents don’t live together, and he said it’s because they’re divorced.”Silvia didn’t know if she should feel sad after hearing this from her daughter. The divorce rate had been increasing rapidly throughout the years, so much so that little children are used to the topic at this point. They might not understand the concept of divorce, but somehow, the word had already been added into the dictionary in their minds.Ryan, however, was narrowing his eyes. It was clear he was shocked by his daughter’s unexpected explanation as well, as she shouldn’t have had to learn something like this at such an early age.The two adults couldn’t bring themselves to say anything when faced with their naive daughter’s words. Before they could come up with an appropriate answer, the little girl spoke up once more. “I know you’ll ask me who I’d choose to stay with,

For some inexplicable reason, Ryan felt a dull ache in his heart as he watched Silvia carrying her daughter away from the rearview mirror. He felt especially suffocated as he watched Autumn putting her head against Silvia's shoulder, while repeatedly looking back at his car with a sad, disappointed gaze. She looked exceedingly lonely, yet was considerate enough to not throw a tantrum over her current plight. Not long after Silvia left with her daughter, she heard Ryan's phone chiming from behind once more. She was absolutely sure that it was the mistress urging him to see her right away. Her instinct told her that Mariah knew about Ryan's plans on picking up their daughter, as well as the fact that they would bump into each other. Hence, the mistress had likely thought of an excuse to have him leave.'I think Sommers was crying during the call. Hah! I cried in front of him earlier too, but it was nothing to him. After her call with her parents, Silvia received a notification that five thousand dollars had been transferred into her bank account. It was from her mother. Right after that, she received a text.[Use this money for the divorce proceedings. It's best not to use Ryan’s money anymore, especially when you've already made your final decision.]Clutching to her phone as she stared at her mother's message, Silvia bit her lips as tears silently fell down her cheeks. Her parents’ enthusiasm regarding her divorce showed that they had long recognized the problems within her marriage. Yet, Silvia was still foolishly trying to stay with Ryan. When Rosaline returned, Silvia informed the former that she needed to go back to Ryan's place to pack some things. Being a good friend, Rosaline happily agreed to look after Autumn while Silvia was away. Before heading out, Silvia checked on her daughter, only to realize that Autumn’s cheeks were flushed and that her body was burning up quickly. Her lawyer sounded quite apologetic as he said, "I'm so sorry, Mrs. Pierce. I've been way too busy with work lately, and I have to go on a business trip soon. I don't think I can take on your divorce case with Mr. Pierce. Please hire someone else instead."Hearing him call her Mrs. Pierce made Silvia wince in disgust. She wondered to herself, 'He clearly knows I'm going to divorce with Pierce. What does he even mean by calling me that?''He had always referred to me as Miss Alberich when he contacted me in the past.'Silvia was never one to nitpick on someone else's behavior, so she didn't express her discomfort about it. Instead, she tried to persuade the lawyer in hopes he would change his mind, as it would be too tedious to change lawyers at this point."Mr. Smith-"Before she could say anything further, the lawyer quickly hung up after apologizing once more. "You've been living together for five years. You even have a daughter together. So tell me, have you fallen in love with Silvia?"Hearing this made Ryan freeze up for a brief moment. He turned away, avoiding his mother's question. "Mom, we're talking about you and Dad…"He thought to himself, ‘Does it really matter if I love her or not? I never intended to end the relationship after we got married, anyway.’Ophelia continued to stare at her son for a few seconds, then sighed. "Ryan, I don't know why Silvia made the decision to file for a divorce. But I want to say…you should just let her go if you don't love her."Ryan didn't expect his mother to encourage his own divorce. Yet he could understand his mother's intentions, as she too was a victim of a loveless marriage. It was natural for her to stand by Silvia's decision.Ophelia continued as she smiled softly, "She's still young, so just let go of her. Let her find her own happiness. Evelyn was worried about this, but Rowan did not take it seriously as he said, “This small amount of snow is nothing.”Evelyn was extremely worried. The temperature was so low now, so the road must be icy. The snow was too heavy and would block his sight. Evelyn did not want him to be in any danger, so she suggested in a low voice, “It’s better if you don’t go back.”Rowan looked at her in surprise and smiled as he asked, “Where will I stay if I don’t go back? Do you want me to stay in the car all night?”Evelyn shook her head and said, “Y-You can go home with me.”She had just taken the initiative to invite a man to spend the night at her home. It was truly embarrassing for a shy girl like Evelyn to say these words, but she was willing to do so for his safety.“My mother should be asleep now, and she wakes up later in the morning. We can just leave before she wakes up in the morning.”She explained with a red face, “Don’t misunderstand me. I just don’t want you to be in danger o

She held her cell phone and said hurriedly, “I’ll go down right now.”She ended the call and hurriedly put on her down jacket. She was wearing warm and soft polar fleece home clothes. She did not have time to change, so she simply put on a down jacket and went out. She opened the door and walked out stealthily, out of fear that she would wake Helena up, and Helena would find out that she was going down to meet Rowan in the middle of the night. Helena would surely think that this kind of behavior was inappropriate. When passing by the living room, Evelyn glanced in the direction of Helena’s bedroom. The lights had been turned off, so she was probably asleep. Helena’s physical condition was not as good as it was before the surgery. After all, she was getting older and had undergone craniotomy, which was a major surgery, so she could not keep up mentally and physically. She would go to bed very early at night and wake up late in the morning. After Evelyn left the house quietly, sh

She laughed loudly when she was happy, shed tears when she was sad, never hid her true self, and was a frank and sincere person. Why wouldn’t men like such a girl?Rowan laughed. He did not mean to slander Selena; he was simply analyzing Selena’s current situation from his perspective as a man. Selena might indeed be a good girl in Evelyn’s eyes. After all, Evelyn was a woman who only cared about Selena’s personality, but men paid more attention to a woman’s temperament and charm sometimes. Everyone naturally had their own preferences. For example, Rowan preferred someone simple like Evelyn, whereas some men might prefer someone with a stronger personality like Selena. Evelyn had to call Charles after she could not reach Selena. “Charles, is Selena home? I can’t seem to reach her on her cell phone.”Charles frowned when he heard Evelyn’s words. “She’s not back yet. He was wrong. He was really wrong. He treated the person he wanted to protect so coldly and harshly. It seemed that he had not been in a relationship for too long that he had forgotten how to love. Fortunately, it only took him this once to understand the crux of his problem. Therefore, he stroked her cheek gently and reassured her in a deep voice, “It won’t happen again.”Evelyn chose to smile slightly in relief in response to his apology and assurance. When two people are together, they need to understand and accommodate each other in terms of personality, temperament, and living habits. Since they had only officially been together for a day, this was even more essential for them. As he said, he was an ordinary man, and she was an ordinary woman. Their relationship was that of an ordinary couple, so it was normal for them to quarrel, have disagreements, and lose their temper. “Getting dinner!” Rowan announced angrily, then he placed her in the passenger seat, got into the car, and drove away. Evelyn had no other objections since they were going to eat. Anyway, she had already called Helena earlier to tell her that she would not be going back for dinner tonight as she would be having dinner with Selena. Not long after the two had gotten into the car and driven out, Selena called and asked Evelyn worriedly, “Evelyn, how did it go? Did you manage to coax him yet?”As Rowan was sitting next to her, Evelyn could not answer whether she had managed to coax him. Therefore, she hesitated without saying anything. When Selena heard this, she knew that they must not have reconciled yet, so she gave her advice on the other end of the line. “It’s fine. There’s no man that can’t be coaxed. Just one kiss will do. If he still can’t be coaxed, give him two kisses. If that doesn’t work, just kiss him all over until he’s no longer angry!”Selena’s voice was loud enough,
