“What’s the meaning of this? Explain!” Harold questioned angrily as he shot Ryan a dirty glare.

The old man knew well enough to realize that Silvia was being absolutely serious to have announced her divorce in this manner.

He was greatly saddened and enraged, as he had known how awkward the young couple’s relationship was.

Nonetheless, Harold thought the two would get along as years passed. Not to mention, they already had a child together.

He never expected their relationship to progress towards the worst ending possible.

“She has no say in this matter!” Ryan growled, expressing his anger right before he stormed out of the place.

He was most definitely implying that he would never agree to the divorce, and would use everything in his power to make sure it wouldn’t happen.

Silvia didn’t head home that day. She never intended to continue living with Ryan under the same roof after filing a divorce ,after all.

She didn’t regret her decision. She had never regretted any of her past actions either, regardless of the consequences.

Later on, Silvia drove towards an old suburb, where her close friend Rosaline Olson lived.

Seeing how disheveled Silvia looked, Rosaline jumped from shock as soon as she opened the door. She immediately dragged Silvia inside, concern written all over her face. “What happened to you?”

Silvia sat down in the small living room, then took a few sips out of warm water Rosaline served. Her expression was calm as she replied, “I’m getting a divorce too.”

Rosaline had gone through a divorce a year ago, hence why Silvia mentioned the word ‘too’.

Her ex-husband had cheated. However, it wasn’t because he found a younger or more attractive woman. In the first place, he wasn’t at all rich.

Rosaline’s ex-husband was poor, and he had enough of a life of poverty. Hence, he went ahead and found himself a rich woman to rely on.

Not only was the rich woman married, she was also a prostitute. Her money basically came from sleeping with other men, which was then spent on her little sugar baby, Rosaline’s ex-husband.

Rosaline was utterly stunned to hear Silvia’s words. However, her shock was soon replaced with pity. “Can you…really let him go?”

She had witnessed the change in Silvia throughout her relationship with Ryan; from her happiness in the beginning, down to her agony at the very end.

If Ryan was considered as someone Silvia loved with her entire being, Rosaline was someone Silvia would blindly put her complete trust in.

Facing Rosaline’s question, Silvia leaned against the couch and closed her eyes. She was clearly exhausted.

‘So what if I can’t? It doesn’t matter.’

Rosaline glanced at her friend’s expression and pondered. Then, she said softly, “You know, your situation’s different from mine.”

“Brooks and I were in love from the start, but we slowly grew to resent each other throughout the years. We’ve lost all the love we initially had.”

Shaun Brooks was the name of Rosaline’s ex-husband. It had been a whole year since their divorce, so Rosaline could talk about her failed relationship nonchalantly. She didn’t seem angry, nor did she insult him and his actions. It was as if she had become a complete outsider to her own past.

“But you and Pierce are different. You didn’t have any love for each other in the beginning, and now, you’re slowly getting along. This is just my opinion, but you should really think it over.”

Silvia opened her eyes back up after listening intently to Rosaline’s advice. Her gorgeous eyes were filled with humility as she responded, “Rosa, no one would want a divorce.”

“I’m tired of all this. I really am.”

“And… You say we’re getting along…” Silvia’s gaze shifted to the floor, her head hanging low.

“But that’s just all there is, isn’t it?”

“He doesn’t love me, I know that for a fact. And that’s why our marriage was bound to fail,” Silvia continued as she turned to Rosaline.

“I lost all hope for us to work, and for me.”

“Imagine if you’re stuck in one level in a game, and you can never get past it for some reason. No matter how passionate and obsessed you were with the game at the start, that one level is enough to drain your love for it.”

“And in the end, you’d just stop playing the game entirely.”

Silvia’s tone sounded exceedingly lonely, despite the soft smile on her face. “That’s what happened to my love for Ryan.”

She remembered how excited she was at the start of their five year marriage. She did everything she could to please him and to make him happy; shamelessly trying every way she could to win his heart.

She used to be as bright as a star, and there was always a wide smile on her face.

At one point, she accidentally overheard some harsh words he told her out of spite, which slowly destroyed all the joy she had in her heart. She was staying with a man who would never fall in love with her; in a marriage with absolutely no hope.

She couldn’t have possibly returned to her past cheerful self.

As time passed, Silvia became closed off and was silent most of the time. The spark in her soul died as her anticipation for the future lessened, turning her into a resentful wife.

That…was how this five year relationship changed her.

She cherished the man so much that she did everything she could to earn his so-called love, and lost herself in the process.

Oftentimes, she would question herself, wondering, ‘Is this really what I want?’

Just as Rosaline was about to say something, Silvia’s phone could be heard ringing inside her bag.

Silvia took her phone out, only to hang up on the call as soon as she saw the contact on her screen.

It was Ryan, and she didn’t want to answer at all. What she didn’t expect was for him to pester her until she finally picked up.

As expected, his voice was unusually cold. She could tell he was suppressing his anger.

“Where are you?”

Dodging the question, Silvia retorted dismissively, “What do you want?”

“Autumn woke up and couldn’t find you, so she’s crying now!”

She could practically hear him gritting his teeth over the phone. She thought to herself, ‘If I was in front of him right now, he’d definitely try to ‘teach me a lesson’ again.’

Heart wrenching cries could be heard on the other end of the line, shattering Silvia's heart into millions of pieces in an instant.

Autumn was their three year old daughter who had recently started attending kindergarten. The little one was adorable, cheerful, smart…just like how she used to be.

“Mama…”

“Mama…”

“Where are you? Come back, come back! Wah…”

Listening to her child crying out for her was unbearable, so much so that her entire body was trembling. Silvia hadn't left her daughter's side ever since giving birth to Autumn.

Before her daughter started school, Silvia would stay at home and spend her every second with Autumn, doing her best to be a good mother and wife.

Ryan had hired a nanny in the past, but Silvia refused to let someone else take care of her daughter and dismissed the nanny from the job not long after. Since then, she had personally managed everything regarding Autumn.

She was absolutely devastated when she thought about how she had to leave her daughter behind. Tears welled up in her eyes.

However, she was still determined to go through the divorce. To ease the pain a little, she comforted herself.

‘Once the divorce is finalized in a few days, I won't be separated from my daughter ever again.’

She hoped to take her daughter far, far away; while Ryan could finally achieve his happy ending with Mariah. Thus, despite her daughter's cries, Silvia had to compose herself and console the little one. However, the tears still remained in her eyes when she spoke. "Autumn, my dear, don't cry. Aunt Rosa’s sick, and I'm taking care of her for now. I won't be home tonight, so sleep with Papa, alright?"Rosaline also had a child with her ex-husband, a little girl only two years older than Autumn. Rosaline managed to win custody over her daughter, but was currently busy with work. Hence, Rosaline had to send her daughter to her parents so they could take care of the child in her stead.Back then, Silvia would bring Autumn along to Rosaline's apartment. The two children played together a lot. Autumn was actually quite close with Rosaline. For now, Silvia had no choice but to make up a white lie to comfort her daughter. The closest interaction Ryan had with his daughter was when she greeted him at the door. Autumn would always stand there with a big smile and wish him good luck at work, or welcome him home from work. That was the limit to their affection for one another. Many times, Ryan simply chose to not show any affection towards his daughter, even going as far as to avoid looking directly at her adorable face. They even had the same expressions and attitude; especially that godforsaken smile. He didn't understand how they had so much positivity in their hearts, or how they always had the energy to be so bubbly all the time. Suddenly, Silvia’s face shifted to that of Autumn’s. Both of their teary eyes and sorrowful expressions were more than enough to kill his sleep. He tossed and turned through the entire night. It simply made him feel worse, as he usually had the luxury of waking up to a clear mind.Even then, Ryan Pierce was still the man who managed the entirety of Pierce Group. As soon as he washed up and put on a clean suit, he once again appeared as the cold and heartless CEO.Exiting the master bedroom, he scanned their lavish apartment unit; the absolute silence haunted his very being.Normally, the entire place would be filled with the lovely aroma of coffee by the time he woke up, and in the kitchen would stand a certain woman. She would always be busy making breakfast for the entire family.Knowing that he loved drinking coffee, Silvia bought a coffee machine so that she could personally make him a cup every single morning. Ryan gritted his teeth throughout the entire time he read the divorce settlement. It seemed Silvia only wanted custody of their daughter, and nothing more.He scoffed while clutching onto his mouse. 'Ha, how nice of her to not demand anything. Does she even realize what’ll happen to her after divorcing?''Once we're divorced, she'll be rid of her title as Mrs. Pierce and has to leave the Pierce family.''She has no talent or skill to her name, since she married me the moment she graduated university. She's never worked a single job, and naturally wouldn't have experience in any field.' Back then, Silvia had been so deeply in love that she didn’t care how deep the fall was. She had always stubbornly insisted that their relationship would improve after marriage, even more so after she gave birth to his child.'My parents, grandparents, and many other marriages started out this way. They worked out, didn't they?' That was what she told herself at that time.'Many couples have fallen deeply in love and experienced many obstacles in their lives. But at the very end of it, most of them continue striving in their relationship just to raise their children well. Isn't that the case most of the time?'However, she had no idea that Ryan's heart was made of stone. No matter how much she tried to love and please the man, he didn't reciprocate her feelings at all. With Silvia hanging up on him again, Ryan got so angry that he slammed the landline phone back in place. When Rosaline finally went to work, Silvia had already slept through her entire afternoon. After that, she got out of bed and made some lunch for herself, and then used Rosaline’s computer to look for jobs online. She initially thought Ryan would happily agree to divorce, and she’d be able to leave Detroit with her daughter. She intended to settle down at her parents’ place, which was in a rural area at the outskirts of Detroit and about an hour away from the city center. She was hoping she could find a job in that area after her daughter got used to her parents’ place. She was determined to never go back to Detroit. There was nothing here that she’d stay for, nor anyone she couldn’t bear to part with. Hence, it was meaningless for her to linger. After becoming a mother, she knew how difficult parenthood was and could understand familial relationships even more now. It’s your responsibility to provide for them, so I didn’t mind. But how did you make it up to me? You forced Ryan to give up on the girl he liked just so her son could have what he wanted, as per usual.”“I completely gave up any hope I held for you in my heart since then.”Ophelia was still rather soft-spoken when saying all this, but it was enough to make Greg’s heart sting.“Ryan’s marriage ended up in a divorce…because of you. Their marriage, their divorce, along with his parents’ divorce; everything was all her fault. Her heart had already gone through the pain of disappointment, so she didn’t respond to his accusations. Evelyn was worried about this, but Rowan did not take it seriously as he said, “This small amount of snow is nothing.”Evelyn was extremely worried. The temperature was so low now, so the road must be icy. The snow was too heavy and would block his sight. Evelyn did not want him to be in any danger, so she suggested in a low voice, “It’s better if you don’t go back.”Rowan looked at her in surprise and smiled as he asked, “Where will I stay if I don’t go back? Do you want me to stay in the car all night?”Evelyn shook her head and said, “Y-You can go home with me.”She had just taken the initiative to invite a man to spend the night at her home. It was truly embarrassing for a shy girl like Evelyn to say these words, but she was willing to do so for his safety.“My mother should be asleep now, and she wakes up later in the morning. She held her cell phone and said hurriedly, “I’ll go down right now.”She ended the call and hurriedly put on her down jacket. She was wearing warm and soft polar fleece home clothes. She did not have time to change, so she simply put on a down jacket and went out. She opened the door and walked out stealthily, out of fear that she would wake Helena up, and Helena would find out that she was going down to meet Rowan in the middle of the night. Helena would surely think that this kind of behavior was inappropriate. When passing by the living room, Evelyn glanced in the direction of Helena’s bedroom. The lights had been turned off, so she was probably asleep. Helena’s physical condition was not as good as it was before the surgery. After all, she was getting older and had undergone craniotomy, which was a major surgery, so she could not keep up mentally and physically. She would go to bed very early at night and wake up late in the morning. After Evelyn left the house quietly, sh

She laughed loudly when she was happy, shed tears when she was sad, never hid her true self, and was a frank and sincere person. Why wouldn’t men like such a girl?Rowan laughed. He did not mean to slander Selena; he was simply analyzing Selena’s current situation from his perspective as a man. Selena might indeed be a good girl in Evelyn’s eyes. After all, Evelyn was a woman who only cared about Selena’s personality, but men paid more attention to a woman’s temperament and charm sometimes. Everyone naturally had their own preferences. For example, Rowan preferred someone simple like Evelyn, whereas some men might prefer someone with a stronger personality like Selena. Evelyn had to call Charles after she could not reach Selena. “Charles, is Selena home? I can’t seem to reach her on her cell phone.”Charles frowned when he heard Evelyn’s words. “She’s not back yet. He was wrong. He was really wrong. He treated the person he wanted to protect so coldly and harshly. It seemed that he had not been in a relationship for too long that he had forgotten how to love. Fortunately, it only took him this once to understand the crux of his problem. Therefore, he stroked her cheek gently and reassured her in a deep voice, “It won’t happen again.”Evelyn chose to smile slightly in relief in response to his apology and assurance. When two people are together, they need to understand and accommodate each other in terms of personality, temperament, and living habits. Since they had only officially been together for a day, this was even more essential for them. As he said, he was an ordinary man, and she was an ordinary woman. Their relationship was that of an ordinary couple, so it was normal for them to quarrel, have disagreements, and lose their temper. “Getting dinner!” Rowan announced angrily, then he placed her in the passenger seat, got into the car, and drove away. Evelyn had no other objections since they were going to eat. Anyway, she had already called Helena earlier to tell her that she would not be going back for dinner tonight as she would be having dinner with Selena. Not long after the two had gotten into the car and driven out, Selena called and asked Evelyn worriedly, “Evelyn, how did it go? Did you manage to coax him yet?”As Rowan was sitting next to her, Evelyn could not answer whether she had managed to coax him. Therefore, she hesitated without saying anything. When Selena heard this, she knew that they must not have reconciled yet, so she gave her advice on the other end of the line. “It’s fine. There’s no man that can’t be coaxed. Just one kiss will do. If he still can’t be coaxed, give him two kisses. If that doesn’t work, just kiss him all over until he’s no longer angry!”Selena’s voice was loud enough,
