Ember's POV
I groaned softly, making a little turn around the bed, but I didn't feel anything. My hands went further to feel his chest, but the only thing I felt was the soft pillow close to me.
That was weird because today was weekend that we had promised to spend together.
As a result of this, I opened my eyes slowly, fluttering my brows twice to get a clearer vision of the room, only to realize that Xander was no longer beside me
"Morning love”I heard the sweet and seductive voice of Xander, and it immediately made a smile curve up my lips. Raising the pillow closer to me, I rested it against my chin and continued to stare at Xander.
"You're up so early? You promised you'd stay with me today." I pouted.
He chuckled slightly, "You look so cute when you do that” walking closer to me and held my chin.
What I felt next was his soft lips on mine, greedily I held it and sucked on his lips while stylishly trying to lure him back to bed.
"I'm sorry baby, but I'd have to break that promise”. he apologized, reluctantly leaving my warmth.
“Some investors are coming over today, and it's important I welcome them myself. I'll make it up to you, I promise."
“On a weekend?”
“Baby...” he drawled before leaning in and placing kisses all over my face while saying, “You know the pack business doesn’t know what weekend is and has no idea that I have a wife about to kill me with her eyes”
I didn't smile. Although I was disappointed, but I still understood him.
"How about I take you out tonight?" he whispered; I was about to give in before the reality of how we had been spending our nights hit me.
“How am I sure this isn’t going to be like those other nights you’d come feeling all tired and sleepy?” I asked staring at the man that had my heart under his care.
“Damn! I sure do owe you a lot and I promise to make it up to you, baby” he whispered before placing a gentle peck on my forehead and leaving me to my daydreams.
“We need to start making babies.” I shouted after him.
“You, Mrs. Ember are going to be the death of me” he mind linked just as he was outside the door causing me to chuckle.
I lay basking in my dream world before my phone dinged reminding me why I had pleaded with Xander to clear his plans for today.
It was obvious that Xander forgot and so did I, we had been so busy with everything but ourselves that we forgot that today was our fifth-year wedding anniversary and I wasn’t just going to sit back and let it pass like every other day.
Reluctantly, I tidied up myself before making arrangements to surprise my oblivious husband.
My subconscious took me back to what had drawn me to Xander on the day we first met, I was swayed away by his handsome face and his gentle man's behavior to me and to think he had a reputation.
My eyes caught a portrait of Xander and I that was taken on our first date hanging on the wall.
Funny how it has been here for years but it was today it caught my attention.
Unlike other bonds…I and Xander’s was one that wasn’t forged by the goddess but rather a testament that true love existed.
I missed those good ole times as pack duties has made us strangers with love for each other, While staring at the picture, it suddenly hit me that we had shared fond moments so much that I couldn't possibly count them.
One of the memories we had shared together that held a special place in my heart, was when I had tripped on the kitchen and he came to my aid, hosting me in bridal style and taking me back to our room.
I remember vividly how he had ensured I was treated accordingly and let the entire maid make the meal and further ensured that the maid cooking became a norm.
We were so happy and it made me wonder where this distance I was sensing was coming from.
I instructed the maids on what to cook before going back to the room to supervise the arrangements in the room.
A memory suddenly invaded my senses causing me to smile, the first time I had ever seen Xander vulnerable, he had been down with a severe sickness.
We weren't married yet but he had allowed me to see a part of him I had never expected to see, I was able to see the soft side of him.
The most energetic moment I could also remember, was when my husband had thrown an outrageous party for me on my birthday.
Funny how he had the entire pack present me with a gift and the day was turned into one of the important dates in the pack's calendar.
Being married to one of the toughest Alphas always gave me chills, but Xander proved he could be overly caring.
What surprised me more was the fact that even though we never had a child together, his love was second to none and sometimes had me thinking that it was just too good to be true.
While I was still basking in all these memories, I was interrupted by a maid who sounded just as excited as I was; “The Alpha is back”
The moment I laid my eyes on Xander I ran to embrace him, but I was met with a cold shoulder.
My heart thumped harder in fear and confusion as I clearly saw the element of guilt in my husband's eyes.
“Xander?”
Looking over his shoulders, I saw a young pretty lady staring at me with the same guilty look in her eyes.
“Who is she?”
“I can explain”
With a tired smile he pulled me indoors after saying something to her and as though the maids could sense the foul mood, they all excused themselves.
“Talk to me!” I pleaded and he busted in tears before falling to his knees, shocking me.
“I am sorry, I didn’t know it would result to this baby”
“Result into what? I am confused, what are talking about? what is happening?”
“Xander!”
“She is pregnant and its mine!”
“It was a mistake; I shouldn’t have ever… I heard him say and before my whole world came crashing beneath me as it all went black.
Ember’s POVSo many dark thoughts filled my mind as I tried everything possible to take my mind away from his betrayal. It’s been a week since my heart was shattered and my whole future was left in disarray, none of the methods I had tried was working so far.The worst part of it all was finding out on our anniversary, I wondered what he thought upon seeing the preparations I had made. This was the worst gift he had given me and it wiped all good memories we had created. The question of why he had done it still haunted me but I didn't have the courage to ask him to his face nor did I have courage to listen to his explanation, I found it better to avoid knowing the truth.Seeing it hurt me more than his confession and worse still this wasn't a one-night mistake but something the man I had called my husband has done multiple times until he finally hit the jackpot. My methods of pushing him away were quite extreme because I had started sleeping in another room and avoided eating at the s
Ember’s POV“Since this has been all you have wanted to do throughout the weak and even going weak to bring Grace here to plead your case, let me hear it” I scornfully began.“Baby…”“Your time starts now and you have just 15 minutes to give me a reason valid enough to explain why I saw you with that woman and why she is pregnant for you too!”.Still on his knees, with tears rolling down his eyes he continued pleading for forgiveness.“I never cheated intentionally, I just didn’t know how to come clean to you about it, I was ashamed of myself and our vows that I failed to keep”.“A mistake you say or it only became one when she became pregnant?”“Tell me Xander, What part of it was a mistake, the part where you poured your seeds into another woman or the part where she got pregnant and your secret had to be out!”“It’s not that, Babe…”“Lecture me!”“I just didn’t know how to tell you, Ember…I thought I was doing the right thing by keeping it away from you so I spent nights…”“I knew
Ember’s POVI didn’t know how to feel about going to meet my husband’s side woman but knowing I had Xander beside me and not her gave me a sense of comfort.Upon arriving at the chamber where Ellie was waiting, she immediately falls on her knees.“Luna, I am sorry, and accept the blame to be mine, Xand…Alpha Xander never intended to touch me but h just happened to be at the wrong place when I wasn’t in control of my body”“I know my presence here isn’t ethical but Xand…Alpha Xander requested I stay until after the baby is born then I will be out of your lives for good”I didn’t know if her apology as supposed to make me feel any better because it further more aggravated my anger, having both of them drag who takes the blame was comical. If she wasn’t already nurturing the thought, I am certain that she would want to take her place after giving the Alpha an heir or daughter.“I have nothing to say to you then you shouldn’t be kneeling in your condition” I said nonchalantly.“Ember...”
Ember POVI watched in disappointment as he left, banging the door after him.Fear was beginning to slowly fill me up as I could see our marriage crumbling underneath me and I was definitely the one that was going to lose out on everything.Although I had told him to but I didn’t expect that he would but rather try to convince me that my doubts were nothing but mere doubts.Thew betrayal, deceit and now this? How much more was I going to bear to protect the name Luna November McCray. The dark enveloped as well as dark thoughts of what my marriage was turning out to be…no matter how he apologized, I still couldn’t help but blame him for exposing this family.I was angrier at myself for letting them get to me so easily, it was obvious that this was what Ellie and her scheming dad wanted all along.Xander choose to be too blind to see it and if by any chance I was to mention this to hearing, it would flip the tables around and make my position here threatened, giving Ellie the upper hand
Ember's POV"Oh my goodness! Oh my god!" Ellie screamed in pain as I walked closer to her. She was bleeding and I tried to help her up. Wow, I didn't know that she was not feeling too well."Don't touch me! Get away from me!" She screamed and I rolled my eyes. She was allowing her sentiment to cloud her sense of reasoning. What was wrong with her? "You should let me help you up. You can barely walk." "And whose fault is that?!" Her eyes narrowed at me accusingly and I rolled my eyes. Of course, she was going to make it look like I was the one behind her predicament. If karma was a bitch.I ignored her and grabbed her hand, but she slapped my hands away and I rolled my eyes again and pulled her even harder. It became a tussle between both of us and I was annoyed at the way she was behaving. "Are you deliberately being stupid right now? You can see that you are in a mess." I snapped. I didn't have the time for the exaggerated pain she was claiming to experience. She let out a piercin
Ember's POVI was overwhelmed with an aching hole in my heart. My heart twisted like shards of glass were wedged in it, twisting and turning inside of me. My heart was a mixture of volatile anger and hurt. Each emotion floods my heart larger than the former. It was as though I had lost something in my life. I picked up myself slowly from the ground and walked back into the house. I didn't wait for a verbal attack. One thing was evident. I was not recognized to be someone important anymore and it hurt. I mean, it hurt to my very core. This meant that I had to fight for myself. I didn't have anyone on my side. Tears streamed down my eyes as I proceeded into my room. I could take a lot of things except being abandoned and neglected. A deep sigh escaped my lips immediately as I finally arrived in my room. I wiped my eyes dry as I sat on my bed. I had to think of a life different from being with Xander all the time. I sent for a maid to get me some pain relief medications. I could have
Ember's POVMy heart raced as I entered the grand conference room where the council assembled. The weight of the trial tugged at my heart, but I put on a bold front and kept my head high with my shoulders squared, just like my mama had taught me. Various pairs of eyes followed my movement and I saw myriads of emotions in them. The common emotion in all of them was anger and hatred and I rolled my eyes inwardly.A pair of eyes stood out–Roland. He couldn't even mask the contempt that radiated in those depths. Well, he couldperish with those thoughts.I could hear a pin drop as I approached the podium where the council sat. It was the normal order of things. My gaze darted to the one who was supposed to be the love of my life. His brows were drawn in concentration, taut-like, about to snap. His lips were curled in distaste, it was obvious that he didn't want to be here. Well, at least we had something in common."Highly esteemed members of the council." Drew, one of the members of th
Ember's POVMy eyes watered immediately when I entered my room. I don't know if it's from my aching ankle or my battered heart. All I knew was that I felt pain. It spread through my heart like ink did in water. Oh my gosh, why is my life like this? I was doing everything possible to be a good mate to Xander yet he betrayed me in front of those loony people. I wonder what he was trying to prove. He had made it clear that he didn't need me in his life and I guess that it's time to make sure that I left him. I couldn't stand this humiliation anymore. But... Where would I go? That was the next question. It was easier if I had friends, I wanted to go somewhere where no one would be able to find me. I I sighed, suddenly this place didn't feel like home to me. It was as though I was a caged animal and I so wanted to break free. I was not thinking about anything else but leaving. My room door opened immediately and Grace walked in. "Oh my darling, I heard what happened. I'm so sorry about
Ember squealed. "You're a naughty boy." She replied when Xander took her inside the shower. "We are too old to be having these sessions." She replied. Xander didn't think that anything was wrong with him wanting to have an alone time with his lovely wife so he smiled at her. Ember smiled at him. "I'm sorry, I was just kidding." She told him.His eyes crinkled with mirth. "I know, right. I don't even care about what you want to say but I believe that you will enjoy today's session. It promises to be mind-blowing." He bragged. She smiled at him while stroking his beards playfully. "Do you even know what this means?" She teased him.Xander peeled off the dress from her shoulders quietly and stared at her figure. "You look exquisite. I don't think I've seen anyone like you." He muttered softly while smacking his lips for effect. She rolled her eyes at his words. He would say anything just to have his way with her. "What do I expect? It's been almost twenty years." She complained.Xande
Sixteen Years Later, Dennis bounced into the room dripping with sweat and ran down to the kitchen to get a bottle of water from the fridge but met a restriction. He looked up and saw his twin brother staring at him with a glare. "Take a shower instead, you'll feel calm." He said.Dennis went mute for a minute before throwing a punch at him but his brother was faster and had predicted the move so he ducked at the last minute."Get away from the fridge, both of you!" Ember yelled and they jumped apart. She saw that they were mad at each other which made her worried. "You too are supposed to have each other's backs not be a thorn in each other's flesh." She whispered. She was trying so much to raise children who were devoid of hate and malice. The Alpha position was an edgy one which she hoped that they didn't fight each other for but coexisted perfectly together. "Why do you feel the need to show your powers when you are supposed to be each other's best friends?" She demanded The
Three years later"Mummy, can I have a taste now?" One of the boys asked and Ember shook her head, looking down at him with a smile as he had his hands around her legs."Don't be such a baby. It's not ready yet," His twin replied, rolling his eyes as he crossed his arms. The one who had his hands around Ember's leg, shot his brother a glare."Well, I wasn't talking to you" He snapped and Ember downplayed a smile threatening to form on her lips. She stirred the pasta, before turning around to face the boys just in time, when her favorite head came into her view.Xander's hair was disheveled and sticking out. He looked like he just walked out of the shower. He rounded the counter, wrapping his arm around her waist, pulling her flush against his body."This smells delicious," He closed his eyes, taking a sniff. His stomach growled in response and Ember laughed."Easy there, big boy. Soon" She muttered.Xander leaned into her, brushing his lips against the shell of her ears."But taste be
Ember's POV. A pang of headache hit me as I felt my eyes open, my legs shaking beneath my gown. Everywhere seemed black, but the sun rays through the barred hole on the door shone brightly. I strove to stand up, taking what felt like an eternity to raise a leg. Something that felt like shaped iron clashing against each other rang in my ear, and I felt compelled to know what was happening outside. I sprinted toward where the backdoor was, my legs shaking after every step, my heart racing faster with every step I took. The sound of crashing iron and steel and the rise of cries grew closer and thicker with every step I took. I had no idea what was happening outside, all I sought was to escape from this dungeon. Most of the guards were distracted by what was happening outside, none were looking my way. I guess it was lucky, and a chance for me to escape. I walked toward the exit door, but just as I reached there, the roar of a wicked smile halted me in my spot, and I was force
Xander's POV. I was seated in my palace when an emissary holding a sealed letter was brought before me by one of my pack guards. As the emissary approached, I could sense a mix of curiosity and unease from my pack members "Greetings, Alpha Xander. I bring a message from Trent's pack." He fretted going down by reclining his head onto his knees. I took the letter, breaking the seal. My eyes scanned the parchment, and my gut twisted with every word. Trent was declaring war on us. I called a gathering with my elders. We sat in a circle, the letter passed among us. "This is madness," One of them growled. "Trent knows we won't back down." "We need to prepare for battle," Another suggested, her voice steady. "Gather our strongest warriors, Xander. We'll show Trent the strength of our pack." "I'll start scouting for allies. We can't face Trent's pack alone." I looked at my elders, determination burning within me. "We'll defend our pack" The elders nodded in unison, and I k
Ember's POV I walked down the hallway slowly, this part of the house seemed to be more empty than the path I walked through once I reached the end of the house. I frowned wondering what wild goose chase Ellie sent me on. Xander wasn't here. Why would she send me here for no reason had she completely lost it? angry I turned to leave when I spotted Trent standing there with a wicked smile on his face, holding a sword. My stomach dropped knowing there was no way this was going to end well. “Trent! What are you doing here?” He smirked, the glint of the sword reflecting in the fading light. “Hello, Ember. Fancy meeting you here.” I took a step back, feeling panic rising. “Where’s Xander? He’s supposed to be here, did you do something to him?” Trent chuckled, his voice dripping with malice. “Oh, Xander isn’t coming. Ellie sent you her for me. I’m the one you’re dealing with.” Realization hit me like a punch to the gut. Ellie must have played me, setting me up for Trent. My instinc
Author's POV. Xander walked hurriedly towards the port. He had booked a safe passage through the tunnel for Ember. It had not been cheap, but he knew it was going to be worth it since he was sure she would appreciate his efforts in helping her get her complete freedom. He arrived at the spot they had both agreed that they would meet. The port was mostly deserted at this time of the day so it was going to be relatively safe and easy for her to wall around without being found by people who work for Trent. He stood around for the next ten minutes, stifling the anxiety that was quickly growing in his chest. After ten minutes, he started to call her name as he looked around the area. It could have been possible that she had missed her way and was staying at another spot instead of the one they had initially agreed to meet. She was supposed to have been here. They had agreed that they would meet at that spot and he had been exactly on time. If there had been any delay or anything t
Ember's POV. I wasn't moved by her words because I knew that I had a higher backing that would help me out when it was time. All she just needed was the go-ahead from me. Then I knew that she would be able to go ahead to focus on getting the answer. I chuckled softly and looked at her. "Did you want us to respect you, Ellie? You should accord yourself some respect." I told her and she looked at me. "Who the hell are you?!" She challenged me. Her eyes flared at me and I smiled at her. "Are you my husband's concubine?" She asked and I held myself from saying just like you were. That would be a big slap on her face which I didn't really mind though. I liked the fact that she was really struggling to make it work. I didn't care about her and all that she was doing. All I wanted to know is that there would be a need for us to just stay for a while and rest before finally talking about our past life. In just a few years she would be controlling the whole arena but if I stood up rig
Ember's POV. I couldn't help but feel very remorseful when he came close to me. I was a bit skeptical in the beginning but after a while I finally realized that there might be something missing which I wasn't taking into cognizance. Xander reclined into the seat as he stared at me but I maintained his glare. He wasn't going to unnerve me. So what if he didn't sleep with her? All of this was still his fault. If he had not taken those steps when he finished getting her pregnant, then maybe I wouldn't resent him this much. "You didn't defend me when I needed you the most, I don't think you remember that incident, or do you?" I asked him and he shook his head. "I don't think I do. Why would I purposely not want to talk to you? I was under an influence and believe me when I say that it's something that I regret till this day because of this now we are in deep shit. Call me sentimental, but as much as I hate this man I don't feel like harming him at least not yet, do you underst
