As the Alpha's daughter, all my life I've been told that I had to be quiet, demure, and obedient for my future husband. A husband my father would choose. One that would secure alliances and benefit his business deals. If my father planned to sell me to the highest bidder... then I was going to make sure that what the buyer received was broken. When the infamous Maximilian Thorn and his pack crashed my wedding, I thought I was saved by fate. It turns out, fate had other plans.

Chapter 1: A Miserable Bride

"You look beautiful," Joan says as she places the veil on top of my head and gently strokes my hair.

"Beautiful or miserable?" I turn toward the mirror, finally seeing myself for the first time today.

Sure, on the outside I look like a normal bride. Red lips, pink cheeks, long, wavy red hair. The makeup artist has done a great job covering the scars on my arms and the one on my chin. No one can see the scars that matter, though.

"Well, as your friend, I try to focus on the bright side of things," Joan says brightly, placing her hands on my shoulders and gently squeezing them. "You'll be fine, Lena. You always are."

The thing is, I don't want to be fine anymore.

For once, I just want to be happy, whatever happiness means.

And leaving my parents behind could be something to be happy about if it wasn't for the fact that I'm just switching jailors. I don't know a lot about Alpha Jack, but he seems to be the cut of the same tree as my father.

Ruthless on the inside. Nice, upstanding businessman on the outside. They give you a polite smile as they trample over anything and anyone to get what they want.

"At least you're not marrying Alpha Ronald," Joan continues, leaving my side and opening the curtains. It's dark outside, and all I see is my faded reflection in the clear glass.

"I honestly thought father was going to sell me off to him after my last stunt," I say, a genuine smile forming on my face for the first time in the day.

Alpha Ronald's wives tend not to last very long. Every three or four years, they mysteriously die or vanish. The last one's private plane fell in the Caribbean sea. That's what my father told me, anyway.

It's no wonder that of all the leaders and Alphas in the Pack Alliance, Ronald is the one most feared by single women and wayward daughters like me.

"Is that why you're having the wedding here in the countryside?" Joan gasps as her eyes widen. "I thought it was weird you weren't having it in your father's building!"

I shrug, though she's right. A few weeks ago, I scaled my father's building to sneak out and managed to make it to the terrace on the fifth floor before his henchmen grabbed me. I then overheard him speaking to the wedding planner, saying that the wedding would have to be somewhere close to the ground.

He didn't mention that he was afraid I'd jump to my death before he could seal his deal.

"Helena, are you ready?" The door behind us opens and in props my stepmother's coiffured head. "Alpha Jack is here."

"Fifteen minutes," I say, pretending to fumble with my earrings.

"We don't want to keep him waiting," she whispers, scowling at me.

"He can wait fifteen minutes, or is he too old to stand in one place for long?"

She scowls and looks behind her she enters the room and closes the door. From the side of my eyes, I see Joan trying to suppress a giggle.

"Helena... please. Behave just this once. You'll never have to see me or your father again if you don't want to," my stepmother pleads as I stare at her reflection in the mirror. "You'll be a Luna and manage your own household, and when you have kids-"

"I need to finish getting ready," I interrupt her, no longer wanting to hear the long list of reasons why my wedding to Alpha Jack is supposed to be great for me. I've heard them all before.

The only reason I'm going along with this is that the alternative is to get locked up in a facility.

I've been there before, and it.... isn't the best of places.

"Ok. Fifteen minutes." My stepmother's lips prune up like she has swallowed a lemon, and with a quick, hateful glance, she steps outside.

"On the bright side..." Joan begins.

I immediately cut her off.

"Joan, I love you, but if you mention a bright side to this whole thing one more time, I might just set the place on fire."

I'm only half-joking. Though they did take care not to place any lit candles near me.

"I wouldn't put it past you," she says, shaking her head. "I'll give you some time alone. Please don't set the place on fire. Or run..."

There's nowhere for me to run and hide here. There's no knight Alpha coming to my rescue.

Memories of the past threaten to paralyze me, so I try to brush them off. Once, I had been naïve enough to believe that I would marry for love. Once, I thought life could be like the stories, where love triumphs in the end against all odds.

That I would be able to spend the rest of my life with... I don't even want to think of him. But the last glimpse I caught of his face before he disappeared out the window, out of my life forever, is one I will never forget.

I sigh and head towards the door, eager to get the farce over with. There's not much more I can do for my appearance, not that it matters. I could be wearing a clown costume and the wedding will proceed as normal.

The venue is one of Alpha Jack's retreats, and the hallway outside is lined with vines and leaves, like a forest of multicolored flowers. I would appreciate the decor if it had actually been my choice to be here today.

"There she is!" My stepmother rushes towards me, tugging at my father's arm. "I'll go get things started."

My father is meant to walk me down the aisle where an ordained minister is going to perform the ceremony. Among the higher echelons of power in the Pack Alliance, they do things more like humans, to uphold the legal (and business) side of the transaction.

"You look nice," he says, barely even looking at me as he holds out his arm for me to grab it.

I raise my chin and ignore him as I start to walk down the hallway that leads to the main room.

"Helena..." he growls, pulling at my arm and almost making me trip backward. "Why? Why does everything have to be so difficult with you?"

The doors to the main room suddenly open, and music begins to play. All the attendees rise and turn their heads toward us. There must be at least a hundred people here.

I feel my father nudge me forward, and I smoothly slide my arm away from his, quickly stepping away, trying not to step on the dress.

Short of him running after me, there's nothing he could do without messing up the show. Because this is what this is. A display of power and wealth. And I am the puppet, being pulled along by invisible strings.

I smile, leaving him behind. From the surrounding faces, no one seems to think it's odd that I'm walking myself down the aisle.

My happiness is short-lived, however. At the end of it is Alpha Jack, looking like a smug frog.

I make it to the front just as the music dies down and I take my place next to Alpha Jack, realizing this is the end.

The threat I'd been hearing my whole life is finally coming true: "I'm going to marry you off for money or an alliance because that's the only thing daughters are good for. That, and having heirs."

I hear my father shuffle in behind Alpha Jack, and I can almost feel him looking at my back with hatred. The doors behind us close, and I feel like it's someone sealing me in a coffin with me alive inside of it.

The minister gives me and Alpha Jack a brief smile and begins.

"We are gathered here-"

With a loud bang, the doors behind us open, cutting off the minister.

"I'm sorry, are we late?" A tall man in a suit barges in, flanked by dozens of growling wolves. Some people cry out and everyone turns their heads towards the back to take in this stranger who has just interrupted the ceremony.

"What is the meaning of this?" my father bellows, stepping onto the aisle. "Who are you?!"

The man smiles at him.

"My boss doesn't like to be kept waiting, and he never got his audience with you, Alpha Conrad. It's bad manners not to receive your guests before your daughter's wedding."

The wolves surrounding him fill up the corners of the room, while more men in their human forms shuffle in behind him. They're definitely not part of the Pack Alliance.

All of a sudden, my father's men shift, causing a commotion among the guests. They all look terrified, scrambling to get away as suits get shredded into pieces, flying all over the place.

"No! No need for that. My boss just wants his audience." The man spreads his arms, gesturing for people to calm down. "Sorry love, the wedding can continue after that."

He winks at me.

Then he points at the windows, where the dark eyes of more wolves peer inside.

The place is surrounded.

Chapter 2: Helpless
I'm unable to suppress a smile. I have absolutely no idea what was going on, but anything that upsets my father and his plans can only be something good. "I'll be right back," my father growls. He looks furious, and he's doing a poor job of trying to rein it in. "You can proceed with the ceremony." "Nope! We need to borrow Alpha Jack for a moment, too. Right this way," the man says, calling off the growling wolves surrounding him. "Don't worry, no one is getting hurt!" Alpha Jack looks just as confused as everyone as he follows my father down the aisle and disappears down the flowered hallway, flanked by his own men. Some eyes wander toward me as if hoping for an explanation. I catch Joan staring at me in disbelief, and I shrugged at her. This was definitely not my doing. Not this time. My stepmother somehow manages to calm people down and music begins to play again. "We will resume shortly!" I hear her cry out, as she speaks to some of my father's many guests. Someone brings

Chapter 3: Shut Up And Obey
When I wake up, the first thing I realize is that I'm on a huge bed, and my wedding gown lies next to me, crumpled up in a messy pile of white taffeta and lace. It's chilly and damp. a steady soft pattering tells me it's raining outside. The room I'm in is blindingly white, and for a second, I begin to panic. They couldn't have brought me to a mental institution, could they? But it doesn't smell of disinfectant or bleach, but rather, like lavender, with a twang of something sweet. The bed and pillows are satiny, and the room is far too big to be an institution. When I lift my head, I begin to feel tipsy, as if I had been drinking with an empty stomach. But my body feels fine, other than a few sore places around my arms and legs. My head hurts a little, too. My vision clears up quickly, and I sigh with relief. I'm definitely in not an institution... But I also have no idea where I am. Enormous windows covered by equally white and pristine curtains line up the walls. The space

Chapter 4: Bloody Love
Ours? Maximilian seems to relish in watching me figure out what he meant; his wicked smile now reaches his eyes. "So if I were you, I'd be a good girl and try to make this whole thing more pleasant for everyone involved," he says and leaves the room. I hear the key click behind him. I sit there, still trying to make sense of the situation I'm in. Not only am I a hostage, but I'm meant to bear him children. Of course, that was the whole reason for marrying me off to Alpha Jack in the first place. But I had been so sure that I would be able to escape him before I had to sleep with him... And he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would just take me by force. Maximilian, though... I get up and head to the door at the back of the room. Thankfully, it's an equally modern and pristine bathroom, and I get a shower going. There are piles of white, fluffy towels, and all sorts of shampoos and lotions in a corner. The water that pours down from my body is brown, possibly from them

Chapter 5: I Will Take Her
Time moves impossibly slowly as we rush through the highway and the sun begins to peek over the horizon. It's probably been only twenty minutes, but it feels like an eternity. The bleeding in Thomas' arms has stopped, but his wound is still open, and his breathing is almost imperceptible. I place a hand on his forehead. He's deathly cold. In the distance, I can see the city skyline propping up against the vastness of the surrounding forest. We aren't so far out after all. "There's a hospital near the entrance to the city. Can't we just go there?" I plead with Alexei, who has been silent until now. "We don't go to human doctors." Alexei swerves to catch an exit, leading away from the city and away from any hope he'd listen to me. A few minutes later, we're at a port of sorts, and two men open a gate just in time for the car to speed through. "Where are we going?" I ask, not understanding the situation. "We're taking a boat." Calling the thing we board a boat is a severe un

Chapter 6: The Taste Of Him
"We were friends while I was still in Moonspell pack," Thomas says before I can speak. I sigh with relief, utterly aware of Maximilian's gaze on me. Friends? I'm pretty sure friends don't do the things we did, and the memory of those evenings threaten to make me blush. "Friends?" Maximilian says, raising an eyebrow. "I lived close to their countryside estate. Helena would spend her summers there. And when I turned 17, I moved to the city to become Alpha Conrad's driver. You know all this..." Tommy is now struggling to stand, but Maximilian doesn't flinch or offer him a seat. He sits there, like a judge and executioner, weighing Tommy's words. "How come you never told me this?" "I wasn't aware she was part of your plans..." I pretend to lose the battle against sleep and turn around, giving Maximilian my back, and trying not to look too comfortable. Even though Thomas is his beta, it's clear that they can't communicate through the mind-link, or else, they probably would be spe

Chapter 7: We Do Things My Way
☽ MAXIMILIAN ☾ Things are getting out of control, and I hate not being in control. That's what happens when you delegate things to a man who can't even read or write. But I need a man like Alexei. An empire doesn't run itself just on smart guys. Brawn and a good command of people can go a long way. It takes me half an hour to reach my apartment in the city with the morning traffic, and I'm so pissed off I feel like I'm going to bite someone's head off if they cross me. If only Alexei had kept his fucking mouth shut, I wouldn't be stuck with that girl who's driving me crazy. Everything about her is chaos personified, and I can't have that in my life. Ever since I saw her sitting there in Alpha Jackson's venue, all I've wanted is to rip her clothes off and fuck her senseless. Hear her moan my name and leave her begging for more. She'd be easier to take off my mind if she wasn't so damn... interesting. It's not like I lack women if I feel like having a good bang to cool it off.

Chapter 8: I Don't Trust Myself Around You
"You should get some rest," Giselle tells me, and I instantly relax. Her whole attitude has changed now that Thomas is gone from the room. "We'll get you something to eat and leave it here if you're asleep. I don't care what Alpha Max said. You aren't going anywhere until Tommy is fit to be released." With a nod, she leaves the room. I almost call out to her before the door closes, but I stop myself. She seems to be the top authority here in the hospital, but I doubt she'll listen to me if I tell her I'm here against my will. Now, though, I don't think I would leave even if they'd let me. Not when I've found Thomas, even if he belongs to Maximilian Thorn's pack. I want him to leave with me. I just have to figure out how the hell he ended up with these men and try to convince him to come with me. When I succumb to the sedatives and exhaustion, I dream of the past, but it's more like reliving a memory of me and Thomas when we were younger. We're at the creek close to my father's

Chapter 9: The Only Way Out Is Through
I want to tell him to listen to his Alpha, but I don't, because the truth is I don't trust myself around him either. I should be afraid. I should listen to my gut that's telling me that this isn't the same person I fell in love with all these years ago. But he feels so familiar at the same time, and it's not like I have a lot of options. Between staying with him or Alexei or being locked up in some dungeon... "We should go," Thomas says after I stay silent for a few seconds. "The sun will be up soon." He hands me some plastic slippers and opens the door. The hallway outside is eerily silent as we make our way out. I was expecting someone to talk to us or that we'd have to do some paperwork to be released, but we just walk out of the hospital and I'm surprised by the bluish pink sky. "Do you want to drive?" he says, throwing me some car keys. He smiles and keeps on walking toward the parking lot. "What? I don't even know where we're going." I barely manage to catch the keys an

Chapter 10: I Will Punish You If I Have To
I've done it. I've finally managed to shift. I don't know how, or what the hell just happened, but I'm on all fours, and my senses are maxed out. Everything smells stronger, the light is brighter, and the strength I feel in my limbs is something I've never felt before. It's like I'm moving on clouds. I have paws and claws, and I feel like laughing because my fur is red, almost redder than my hair. I can't speak, though, but I let out a howl that pierces through the morning sky. Even though I'm not paying attention to the house, it's like the fur on my back can feel the four eyes watching me. Tommy stands next to the pool with his jaw dropped, and Alexei is pacing back and forth. "Isn't she too old for this to be her first time?" he grunts. "I don't like this. The place isn't secure enough." I can hear his voice faintly even though they're far away from where I stand. How have I been living without this for so long? "Just let her be for a few minutes, will you?" Tommy snap
