Chapter One Hundred Seven - Storm

I sat across from Alex, biting into my sandwich, the weight of my thoughts pressing heavily on my chest. I hadn’t slept well the night before, tossing and turning as worry gnawed at me. Now, I just wanted answers.

“So, what did they say?” I asked, my voice muffled by the food I was chewing.

Alex met my gaze, pausing momentarily before replying, “The moderators?” He watched me nod before continuing, “They asked us to kill them. Said they wouldn’t answer.”

I froze mid-bite, disbelief washing over me. “What? They’re willing to die rather than give us any information?” My fists clenched, frustration bubbling up inside me. The idea that they would choose death over a chance at freedom was maddening.

Alex sighed, setting down his coffee cup. “I think they already knew they were going to die. The moment they were captured, it was over for them. The rogues had surrounded their homes...I’m sure they knew what was coming from the beginning.”
