“Just kill me. I have nothing to say to you or anyone,” Laine's voice trembled as she hugged her knees to her chest, each word laced with deep exhaustion.

Her breathing came in heavy, uneven gasps as if the weight of her confession was suffocating her.

I watched her, taking in the sharp, defeated angles of her frame, the way her eyes avoided mine. “I don't believe that,” I said softly, crouching to meet her eye level.

“You wouldn't let yourself get captured so easily unless there was something more. Something you wanted to say to me.” I said.

She stiffened, her gaze flicking away before returning with a sudden fire. “There's nothing you can do. He's unstoppable now,” she spat, her voice rising with a fury that felt desperate. “Giovanni... he's completely lost his mind because of you.”
