GAVIN'S POV

A WARNING

The memory of the incident still lingers, if I hadn’t driven away so quickly, they might have succeeded in killing us. My thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the loud ringing of my phone. I glanced at the screen, Jerry was calling.

“Where have you been? I’ve been trying to reach you,” Jerry's voice was sharp on the other end.

“Sorry about that, I was tied up with some things here at the office,” I replied.

“Whatever you're working on can wait. I need you to look into something for me right away,” Jerry's tone was urgent.

I paused, walking back to the desk to pick up the slip of paper where I had written the licence plate number of the vehicle that had nearly hit us.

“What’s going on, sir?” Jerry asked, sensing the tension.

“A car tried to run the kids, Iris, and me off the road today. It failed, but it was no accident. I memorised the licence plate, and I need you to find out who owns that car,” I explained, my voice controlled but tense.
