The ticking, clicking and clacking of the computer keyboards filled the air in the office Natasha Jones sat in.
She looked elegant in her white tank top, blue palazzo pants and blue blazer. She parked her golden brown hair in a rough ponytail, exposing her glitter earrings. She wore her Tom Ford reading glasses and kept her head on the desk. She felt so tired and wanted to sleep for just a few minutes. But how could she do this? She had a lot of paperwork and cross checking to get done. She tiredly lifted her head from her desk and looked at the screen of her computer. She picked up her cup of coffee and took a sip.All of a sudden, she heard a loud bang from her right side. She flinched and looked to her right. She saw the manager storming towards her, and she felt her heart stop when she noticed he was fuming.“Natasha Jones!” He yelled, and she sprang to her feet.“Mr. Manager!”“I need you in my office now! This time, I don’t think I can help you, Mrs Jones.”Natasha gulped hard and bounced her head. She looked around and saw everyone at the office whispering and staring at her.“Calm down, Natasha, you are beginning to fidget.” Jeremy, her male best friend, who sat next to her said, almost inaudibly.Natasha hurriedly followed behind the manager, and as she did, she couldn’t stop asking herself what she did this time.Since she started having issues at home, she had been making silly mistakes at work and the manager didn’t cease to complain. And since then, she has been very careful at work. She got into the manager’s office and stood in front of his desk as he pulled out a large piece of paper and threw it to her from behind his desk.“What the hell is this, Mrs. Jones?!” He smacked.Natasha caught the piece of paper as fast as she could and hurriedly checked it out to know what was going on. On the paper, it was shown that the company was currently in a debt of $12 million.“Oh My God.” She uttered in uttermost shock.“Oh your God?! Mrs. Jones, do you know how much trouble you just got yourself in? What’s wrong with you these days? You have been making deadly errors in balancing the company’s financial statements! How the hell did we lose $12 million? Where the hell did such a huge amount go?!”“I… I have no idea…”“Don’t you dare say you have no idea! You are the accountant here! I sent the sheets to the Auditor yesterday and he said this is an act of fraudulence!”Natasha’s hands began to shiver as she held the paper. She skimmed through it, trying to figure out where the mistake was from.“I swear on my life sir, I would never do that!”“I don’t think I can keep enduring this irrational attitude of yours, Mrs. Jones. I’m not sorry to say you’re fired!”Hearing the words from the manager, the paper in her hand slipped off in awe. Tears heated up her eyes in no time, and her vocal cords were unbalanced as she spoke.“Mr. Manager, please don’t do this. I swear in my life that I didn’t take this money. Give me the chance to rectify this issue, Mr. manager. Please.”Tears rolled down her eyes uncontrollably as she pleaded with the manager. She fell to her knees without thinking twice.“Listen, Mrs. Jones. This isn’t the first time you’ve been making mistakes, and I think you may need a break. If I let you stay, what if in the future you make greater mistakes? And don’t worry about rectifying the mistake, another accountant will be here to know what went wrong. Please, try to be available anytime you’re called on. I trust you to some extent Mrs. Jones, and that is why I am yet to call the cops.”“Please…”“Do you know this must not get to the CEO? If it gets to the CEO, I can beat my chest that he’d press charges and you’d be thrown in jail until he’s satisfied. Eddy Gracias would never take it easy on you. So, if you know what’s best for you? You have to go now, clear your head, it is beginning to affect your work so much. I can’t trust you with the company’s finances anymore.”Natasha slowly bobbed and stood to her feet. She cleaned her teary eyes with the back of her hand and placed the paper on the table.“Thank you, Mr. Manager. For everything.”She turned to leave and didn’t look back until she got to her desk.“What’s happening? What did he say?” Jeremy curiously asked.“I am fired.” She mumbled her response, trying not to break into tears in front of everyone.“Fired? What? Is he insane?!”“Keep your voice down, Jeremy! I am the one at fault, not him. I guess my marriage is doing more harm than good these days.”Jeremy heaved a loud sigh and touched her hand as she cleared her table.“We’d talk better online, okay? I’m sorry this had to happen to you.”Natasha nodded and swiped her nose with her hand. “Thank you, Jeremy. Text me when you’re done working.”She carried her bag and hung it on her shoulders as she turned to leave the large office. Jeremy stood behind her, staring at her with great pity.*Natasha Jones was a thirty-one year old elegant lady, with a majestic and seductive aura. She studied accounting in the university and also had a master’s degree in it, which helped her secure the job she had just lost. She had been having very bad performances at work for almost two years now, and this started when she began to notice changes in her husband, Leo, who she had been married to for five years now.Everything was going very fine the first three years into their marriage, even though she found it difficult to bear him a child.Leo kept reassuring her that he wasn’t going to leave her, no matter the situation. Several tests were carried out on her and Leo, but they got nothing negative. They seemed to be perfectly fine.“So why couldn’t she get pregnant?”After three years, Leo’s attitude began to change drastically. He turned inattentive and disrespectful. No one had to tell Natasha that he was beginning to get tired of her.Thinking about this began to cause serious distractions in her life, and now she had lost the only job that helped her stay sane.*“What am I going to do now?” She questioned herself as soon as she got into her car. She got rid of her glasses and placed her head on her steering. She let herself cry so that she wouldn’t have to look weak in front of Leo when she got back home. After crying her eyes out to her satisfaction, she ignited the car engine and drove out of the company’s parking lot.“It is time to have a chat with Leo. All these have to stop, or I’ll lose my mind.”*She got home after driving for about an hour from the company. She packed all her stuff from inside the car and carried it to the doorway of the mansion. She took out her key and inserted it into the keyhole on the door. She tried turning the key, and that was when she realized that the door was open.“Is Leo home?” She wondered as she turned the doorknob and opened the door.On getting into the living room, she saw a young beautiful lady sitting on the sofa, watching TV. Natasha creased her brows and moved closer to this stranger.“Sorry, do I know you? And how did you get in?”This woman turned her head to look at Natasha and a smile lit up her face. “You’re back early.”“You are yet to answer my question, woman. Who are you and what are you doing in my house?”“Hey, you don’t have to be so rude. I am Blake.”“And what are you doing here? Who let you in?”“No one let me in. I have the keys to the house.” She lifted the keys and dangled them in front of her.“What? How the hell did you get the keys?”Blake puffed and reached for her bag. She pulled out an envelope and threw it at Natasha.“Here. This should answer your questions. You are beginning to get on my nerves!”Natasha furrowed her brows and stared at the envelope in her hand. She opened it and saw a white paper in it. She gulped hard as she proceeded to read what was in it.“This is a pregnancy result. How does this answer my questions?” Natasha asked in confusion.“Arrrggghhh. I always thought you were a smart woman. I am pregnant, okay?! And this baby belongs to Leo, your husband. Or should I say, our husband.”Natasha scoffed and shook her head in disbelief.“Are you crazy? You think you can just walk into my house and start spitting out rubbish from that mouth of yours? Who the hell are you?”“Definitely not a barren woman.” Blake responded and burst into laughter.Natasha clenched her jaw and tried to push back the tears that threatened to fall out of her eyes again.“Okay, you have overstayed your welcome! Get out of my house!” Natasha yelled.“No, you have overstayed your welcome, Mr. Man.” Blake responded with laughter. She seemed to be enjoying herself way too much. The door opened all of a sudden, and both women looked at it and saw Leo at the door.“Thank God you’re back, Leo. Please, can you tell this woman to get the hell out?” Natasha said, walking to where Leo stood.Leo swallowed hard and shook his head. He walked past Natasha and went ahead to stand next to Blake.“I’m sorry, Natasha, but if anyone is supposed to get out, it’s you.” Leo answered.“What? Leo, I am your wife! She is just a slut! From the streets! What are you talking about?!”“She is whatever you call her, but she can bear me a child! Don’t you understand? I’m tired of not having a child! And now it’s obvious nothing is wrong with me. You are the one with the problem.”“Leo…” The tears she tried pushing back betrayed her and streamed down her face without control.“Leo, nothing is wrong with me! The doctors told us this! We just need to be patient!” She mumbled, feeling great pain.“I can’t keep waiting, Natasha. It’s been five years…”“It’s not even that long!”“To you, it isn’t. To me, it’s a long time, Natasha. I’m sorry, but this is the end.” He went ahead to stretch a paper to her.“Why are you all giving me papers!”“This isn’t just any paper. This is a divorce paper. I am done!”~After four Weeks~“Natasha! Natasha!” Natasha’s baby sister, Emma, called out to her from the front of her door. Natasha heaved a loud sigh and yanked the duvet off her face. She stared at the ceiling and answered… “Emma, can you please stop the habit of screaming my name every morning? I have an alarm that can wake me up.” “But the alarm takes time to ring! Mum is calling you! Wake up!” Emma yelled and began to knock on the door. “I’m coming, okay? Stop hitting the door.” “Okay! I’m going now!”Natasha heard Emma run off, and she heaved another sigh and sat up weakly. She brushed her hair backward with her hand because it got in her face. Since she left Leo’s house and got to her parent’s house, all she did everyday was sleep, eat, and sleep again. She didn’t even bother checking her social handle. She just wanted to be alone. She always locked the door to her room because she knew Emma would always want to come in, and she didn’t want that. She was dealing with depression.
“Grrr! Grrr!! Grrr! Grrr!!!” Natasha’s phone rang so loud that it cut across the room and filled the air. She shook her head and instantly snapped out of her sleep. She sat up and reached for her phone which was next to her. She looked at the caller and realized he was Mr. Manager. “Mr. Manager? Oh my… what could be the problem this time?” She answered the phone and anxiously placed it on her ear.“Mr. Manager?” She called. “Mrs. Jones. Good morning, and how are you today?” “I planned to wake up on the right side of my bed today, but unfortunately, I’m on this call with you. Please, Mr, Manager, tell me everything's alright.”“Everything isn’t alright, Mrs. Jones. You know this very well. After serious account balancing and checking, it was found out that the payment of $12 million to one of our clients was made twice because you failed to record it when it was first paid. Now, you have to repay the $12 million.” “Oh God…” Natasha yanked the duvet off her body in frustration an
“Natasha, are you back?” Olivia asked from the kitchen when she heard the front door open and close. “Yes, I am back.” Natasha resolved wearily. Olivia dropped the stainless pan in her hand and hurried to the living room to hear what Natasha came back with from the company. “So how was the meeting?” She asked fearfully, when she saw Natasha's sad face as she slammed into the sofa. “He said he wouldn’t press charges…” “Really? That is amazing! That’s good news! We’d talk to your father about it. He’d get you the money, and everything will be fine.” Olivia cut her short happily. “Not only that, mother! There’s a condition.” “Condition? Oh God… what condition?” “He wants us to get married.” She mumbled. “What?! Married? What does marriage have to do with all these? He is crazy?” Olivia sat next to Natasha on the sofa, Natasha moved closer to her and rested her head on Olivia’s shoulder. “That’s what he wants, Mom.” “You aren’t granting him his crazy wishes, okay? You got di
“So Eddy Gracias would be coming here today? Have you even thought about this?” Olivia asked as she sat in Natasha’s room. “What can I do, Mom? I can’t go to jail. If he wants to get married to me, Fine. I am no weak woman. He shouldn’t expect me to act like a housewife or something. I am not ready to fall in love. And I bet he is also doing this for a reason apart from love.” “I told your father about it, and he decided to stay home today.” “Really?” She hurriedly sat up. “Doesn’t he have work today?” “He does, but he wants to meet him too. He’s been so busy lately that I had to tell him myself. Most times when he comes back from work, you’re always fast asleep.” Natasha sighed and brushed her rough hair backwards. “Please don’t tell me he wants to talk to Eddy about this. I don’t think that would work.” “Well, at least we’d give it a try! Don’t you think? We can’t just give you up to another man. What would people say?” “I don’t care what people would say, mom. They would sa

I really want to see who has captured our son’s stony heart.” Mr. Gracias answered loudly, so that Natasha’s parents could hear. “So this is really happening?” Mr Miller asked in a whisper from his wife. Since he stepped into the living room, he had worn a frown on his face, though Eddy’s parents didn’t seem to care. “Yes. Can you at least smile? Natasha said she got this.” Olivia answered. “Mom, Dad. My fiancée will be here soon.” Eddy responded with a fake smile. He sat next to his parents and looked at Mr. Miller, Natasha’s father. “I don’t think we have met, have we?” Mr. Miller asked with a straight face. “No, we haven’t. Good day, sir. I am Eddy Gracias, I believe you have known this before.” He answered with a chuckle and began to act nervous. “I don’t think I ha
~ After the wedding~ As the driver drove Eddy and Natasha into Eddy’s Villa, Natasha’s mouth fell wide open. It was the biggest Villa she had ever seen her whole life. Alongside finding Eddy’s villa as a mystery, she couldn’t wait to get out of the excess fabric on her body. The wedding dress felt quite heavy on her, but she couldn’t complain. It wasn’t only the dress she had issues with, even the fact that they invited almost everyone in Washington didn’t sit well with her. She could bet with her life that her ex-husband Leo must have heard about it, if not attended. Eddy, on the other hand, wasn’t ready to say anything to her until when necessary, so throughout their journey back home, she didn’t even hear his voice. ‘I guess I have to get used to this new life.’ She thought. After the driver parked the car, Eddy was the first to get out. He began to remove his suit as he headed into the house. “Haa.” Natasha sighed loudly as she watched him walk away. She was about to open t
“Ding! Dong!” The doorbell rang loudly in Natasha’s ears very early the next morning. “Argh.” She groaned and turned on her right. She shut her eyes tight, trying to catch the sleep she was beginning to lose. “Ding! Dong! Ding! Dong!” The doorbell didn’t stop ringing. “What the hell! Why isn’t he answering the f**king door!” She groaned loudly from her sleep and eventually opened her eyes. She was pretty sure whosoever was at the door wasn’t her visitor but Eddy’s. ‘Is he still asleep or what?’ She reluctantly got out of bed, wore her slippers and dragged her feet on the floor as she headed out of the room. All this while, the doorbell kept ringing so loud that her ears began to hurt. “I knew I shouldn’t have chosen a room on the ground floor. Gosh!” She muttered. “I’m coming, okay?! You can stop punching it already!” She yelled as she reached for the doorknob and opened the door. In front of her stood Noah, whose face was red and swollen due to unstoppable tears. Although
Eddy was back at his business a day after his wedding. He was in his office, going through the activities of the days he had been absent when the telephone began to ring. He breathed out heavily and picked up the phone. “Mr. Eddy, a man named Leo Jones is here to see you, but he says he has no appointment with you. I tried turning him down but he kept insisting.” Eddy creased his eyes as the name rang a bell in his head. “His last name is Jones?” He further asked. “Yes sir, and…” “Let him in.” Eddy butted in with a smirk. He hung up and chuckled hard. ‘Leo Jones. I wasn’t expecting that, but okay.’ He raised his brows as he thought. After about a minute or two, the door to his office opened and a young man walked in. He wore a blue shirt and white pants. He looked like he was headed to his office. “Look who we have here.” Eddy uttered, keeping his smirk on. “Hi.” Leo replied. He seemed pretty nervous, but there was no going back. He needed to talk to Eddy about Natasha. Si
Eddy’s Rolls Royce car pulled up in front of the red carpet. Natasha gulped hard out of nervousness because it was her first time going to a red carpet, with someone well known. Eddy’s driver alighted and rushed to the back to open the car door. Eddy looked at Natasha who seemed to have zoomed out in thoughts. He stretched his hand to her and she looked at him. “It will be over in the next few hours.” He said to her, and she gulped. She bounced her head and gave him her hand. They locked their gazes after their hands touched. Eddy looked away and carefully moved out of the car. Natasha kept her hands in Eddy’s, and he helped her out of the car too. “Careful.” He said to her as she lifted her red Portia and Scarlet dress from getting under her heels. Natasha looked at him in awe, and she caught him smiling warmly at her. ‘Why can’t he be this kind all the time?’ Natasha smiled back at him, and instantly, there was rain of camera flashes on them. Eddy gave her his arm and she too
“I asked a question, and I expect an answer.” Eddy added, after Noah and Natasha refused to give him an answer. “It’s no one.” She answered and picked up her bag. “I’ll be in my room, Noah.” She said to him. She walked to the door and wanted to walk past Eddy, when he suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled her close to him. “Let us talk, right now.” He whispered in gritted teeth. “I don’t want…” “Don’t you dare tell me that sh*t. Go to my room right now. I don’t want Emma to see us fighting.” He cut her short and shot her a deadly look. Natasha gulped and yanked her hand off his. She flipped her hair and began to walk to Eddy’s room. Eddy looked at Noah and they stared at each other for a few minutes before he finally walked away without saying a word. He got to his room and locked the door behind him. “What were you thinking, hun?! Are you crazy?! Telling my brother you’re in a relationship knowing fully well he can’t know about the contract!” Eddy smacked. “I never told him
After Noah got home, he checked up on Emma before heading to his room. He slammed into the bed and replayed all he heard those he met at company, say to his hearing. “I made a terrible mistake. I shouldn’t have gone to him at all. What was I thinking? I should have at least dressed like a decent man, not wearing cargo pants and a tank top!” He grabbed his head as he spoke out of great regret for his actions. “F**k me!” He yelled and hit the bed with his fist. His phone vibrated in his pocket, and he took a pause on venting his anger. He pulled out his phone and checked why his phone wouldn’t stop vibrating. He turned it on and saw about five messages from Jeremy. “What was that about?” “Noah, why aren’t you texting me back?” “Why did you have to lie?” “Why did you run off that way?” “I wanted to thank you, but you didn’t even give me the chance.” Noah heaved a sigh and began to text back. “I’m sorry, Jeremy. I shouldn’t have come in the first place.” “Don’t say that.” Jeremy t
“So you have never been married?” Natasha started off a conversation after the awkward moment they had. “I have. Once… but, it failed. I married her because I felt I couldn’t keep dreaming of a lady that barely knows me. I was growing older, and I thought it was best for me to start a family…” He took a pause and looked at her. “Then what happened?” Her curiosity was ignited. “We didn’t love each other as much as we thought. We thought we understood each other, but clearly we didn’t. We had to part ways after a year and a few months.” “Wow. I’m so sorry, Steve.” Natasha remorsefully answered. “Sorry? You don’t have to be sorry. I’m happy that actually happened. If I was still lying to myself and still married to her, maybe we wouldn’t have met. I wouldn’t be able to hit on you like I’m doing right now. Even though you’re a married woman…” he scoffed and stood up from the chair with the coffee in his hand. “I don’t even know what I’m doing. I shouldn’t be doing this. We shouldn’
The address Steve gave her was quite different from what she expected. She thought his studio was the old abandoned warehouse he took her to, but instead he sent her another address. She finished dressing up early, thanks to Noah he was so excited about her going to see him. He was her fashion pro for the occasion. “Turn around, baby girl!” Noah said to her, feeling so proud of himself for the makeover he gave her. “Why are you so hyped about us meeting? Shouldn’t you be pissed that I'm seeing another man when I’m still with your brother?” “Oh please… who am I to judge you? My brother is a pain in the ass. You are my very good friend, you’ve even turned to my best friend overnight, so what else? You can do whatever you please. I don’t care.” Noah answered nonchalantly. Natasha chuckled and bounced her head. “Alright. I’m going to take things slow though. He seems like an Angel, but what if he is worse than your brother? I don’t want to do something I’d later regret.” “Worse th
After breakfast, Noah helped Natasha clean up the table. “You have been so quiet since my mom left. Are you fine?” Noah asked her as they began to wash the dishes. “Oh… Yes. I am fine.” She answered, putting on a feeble smile. “C’mon, even Emma would know you’re lying. Talk to me… what’s wrong?” Natasha sighed and carefully dropped the plate in her hand. “Actually, Eddy and I haven’t really talked about having children… you know…” “Oh… so that is it. Gosh, so stupid of me to think you were worried about what to wear to the red carpet.” “Red carpet? What are you talking about?” Noah rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Please don’t tell me you have forgotten about the Red Carpet event mom talked about. She said you and Eddy have to be there.” “Oh my… I can’t remember her saying anything like that. I was quite lost.” “Obviously. Well, about the baby talk. You should do that soon with Eddy. My mom is a pain in the ass, I’m not sorry to say. She always wants things to go her way.
“Hmm.” Eddy moaned as he turned to lay on his side. He felt something so close to him, it seemed like he was trapped to where he was laying. He was forced to open his eyes, and when his vision got clearer, he met Natasha sleeping peacefully. Her face was very close to his, he could feel her breath on his face. He stared at her for a moment and recalled how it went down the previous night. He heaved a sigh and sat up. He grabbed his head as he felt a throbbing pain. He had a hangover. He closed his eyes tight, trying to adjust to the pain. “How are you feeling?” He heard Natasha speak from behind him. He turned to look at her and their eyes met. “I’m fine.” He answered coldly and stood up. “I’ll move to my room now.” Natasha added, hoping he would say something about last night. “Okay.” He answered and headed to his closest to his towel. Natasha stared at him as he headed to his bathroom. ‘What was I expecting? At least, he isn’t aggressive this time. That’s a good sign.’ She
Natasha bade Steve goodbye after he dropped her in front of Eddy’s mansion. She texted Noah, telling him that she was back home. Noah replied, telling her that he would be back home soon too, that he wanted to drop Jeremy back at his house. She tried to open the door to the house and surprisingly, the door gave way. ‘So he didn’t bother to lock the door?’ She walked into the dark living room, she could hardly see a thing. She traced her hands on the wall to get hold of the light switch. She turned on the lights and she could see everywhere. Nothing seemed different until she suddenly heard a loud crash from the top floors. “What is that?” She exclaimed. Her heart was beating very fast and her eyes were wide open. She instantly recalled that she left Emma in the room all by herself because she wanted to party. She ran up the stairs and headed straight to where Emma was. She opened the door and to her relief, Emma was still very much asleep. She let out a deep sigh and gently cl
“You look absolutely stunning.” He pulled her hand gently and moved it to his mouth as he planted a kiss on it. “Same as you. If that makes any sense.” She answered with a chuckle and flushed face. “Oh yes, it does make sense. Can I sit next to you?” He politely asked, and Natasha answered with a nod. This handsome stranger walked from her back up the front of the chair she sat and helped himself out by sitting next to her. “Are you here with anyone? I need to make sure I’m not trespassing.” Natasha shook her head and let out a soft laugh. “I don’t think you are. I came here with my friend, and right now, he is so busy and doesn’t have my time.” She raised her head and looked at Noah, alongside the man that sat next to her. Noah was busy chatting and grinning like a fool with Jeremy. “Well, they seem to be enjoying themselves there. Why are you alone?” Natsha looked away from Noah and brought her focus back to the man next to her. “Well, everyone seemed busy with one thing or
