Annelise's POV

“He did what?!"

I almost flinched at how hard her voice was and the intensity too.

She moved over to sit down beside me instead, her hand gripped mine strongly as she looked into my eyes. Her anger filled eyes has ebbed away into worry for me.

“How do you feel? What am I saying, obviously distraught. Being married to such person is just outright mad too.” She mumbled.

"Can I at least stay here for some days? I really need some time alone away from that house.” I asked her.

"Of f*cking course! You're welcome to stay here for as long as you want.”

"Thank you.”

Esther opened up her arms for me and I hugged her, wrapping my arm around her waist. "It's the least I can do."

Perhaps, what I needed was an embrace to fall asleep. I felt my eyelids closing while I was still hugging her and I gave in to sleep.
