SERENA'S POV
I swallowed hard, my hands balled into fists at my sides and I turned away. I had the feeling that I was wading through an impossible phase of my life with each step I took toward the door. I had to get out of my heart before it engulfed me in its battleground of opposing emotions. I quickly wiped my face, took a sniff and lifted my head and told myself that crying won't solve this, that crying won't stop him from rejecting me if he wanted to. He grabbed my hand as my fingers touched the doorknob. “Serena. “ He called, his voice was rough, low and laced with rawness, a desperate sound which I didn't want to hear at all. My breathing was too shallow and too rapid and I froze, not out of fear but because I didn't know what to do, to go out or to stand here and listen to what he had to say. But I didn't want to. Even though I wanted to run out of that door, something was stopping me, holding me from doing so. Because I knew that I would fall if I did. “Derrick let me go.” I was hardly able to speak. But he did not. His hold became more firm but not painfully so that I knew he wasn't going to let this end that way. I sighed and stared at the door. “Not until you listen to me.” I closed my eyes tightly. “Derrick—” I whispered “ Look at me.$ he ordered. Please just let me go. Goddamn him. Slowly, reluctantly I turned to prepare myself for the storm in his eyes. And my breath was taken away from me when I saw them—deep emerald green and burning with something I wasn't yet ready to identify. His lips were slightly parted and his jaw was clenched as if he were struggling with his own feelings. “ Ever since the night I found you—when those rogue wolves nearly killed you—” he said, swallowing forcefully his Adam's apple bobbing. “ I knew that you were unique. I knew you would be my downfall.” I would be a liar if I say that I wasn't ready for this My chest hurt as I shook my head. “Dont—” “I love you.” Derrick replied as if he was deaf to all I had said. The words struck me with the force of a tidal wave making my lungs explode with air. I didn't know what to do or say, I looked up at him and then looked away again. When his fingers touched my chin, my face tipped upward. He came closer to me, his deep green eyes never leaving mine. “Look into my eyes and say you don't feel anything for me and I'll let you walk out of that door.” His words made me stiff. Considering that I did feel something. A terrifying thing. There was something that blazed like a wildfire in my veins. My silence gave him the answer. He kissed me after that. It wasn't a tender soft kiss. It was ferocious. desperate. It was as if he snapped after holding back too long. I let out a gasp but he muffled it as his hands slid into my hair, his hold just firm enough to chill me. I melted against him, my fingers fisting his shirt, drawing him in rather than pushing him away as my body betrayed me. Help me moon goddess. I returned his kiss with equal urgency and need. Years of self-control and denial finally came to an end. He gave me a deep savage growl that made my knees weak. He lifted me and pressed me up against the wall in one quick motion. My back struck the cool surface and I gasped as my legs automatically wrapped around his waist. His voice was dark and menacing as he whispered against my lips. “Tell me you don't want this. “ Not me. I wanted it and more. Rather than that I raked my nails down his chest and pulled his shirt over his head. He only needed that permission. His lips moved down my throat and jaw, his tongue flitting against my pulse. As his teeth touched my skin I let out a sharp gasp. “Mine.” he snarled his fingers, scorching my exposed flesh as they slid beneath my shirt. I let out a moan before I could stop myself. I ought to have put an end to this. It was best for me to walk away. But I had already gone too far. Our bodies pressed together skin to skin, heat against heat and the clothes vanished in a mad dash. Like he was trying to commit me to memory, his hands felt every part of me in ways that words could never. Finally he got inside me and I let out a choked gasp. His forehead pressed against mine as he froze. His fingers were shaking as he traced my cheek and his breath was slack and irregular. “Serena.” It sounded like prayer and a plea. I leaned in close to him pleading for more in silence. And he handed it to me. We moved in unison, our bodies moving in a rhythm as old as time itself. Every push, kiss and touch pushed me further and deeper into something from which I couldn't break free. Sometimes I couldn't fight. Deep in my belly, pleasure coiled hot and consuming. My body was burning from nerve to nerve. “Look at me.” he said in a strained voice. And I did. And that was the end of me. The world fell apart as soon as our eyes met. He followed me over the edge as I collapsed in his arms, my body shaking and my cries being muffled by his lips. Only our harsh breaths broke the silence that had descended between us. Derrick took me to the bed me gently and kissed me before thrusting into me. He simply encircled me with his arms as if he would never let go.Serena's pov My tiny window let in the morning sun which kissed my skin with an uncommon warmth. I stared at the dress on the wall, a delicate white silk gown with lace that shimmered in the light and my heart raced. It was my outfit for the bonding ceremony. Everything was meant to change for me today, marking the beginning of a new chapter. I shakily exhaled as I rubbed the plush fabric with my fingers. It was unheard of for an Omega like me to mate with an Alpha .Almost everyone detested and made fun of me because I was the lowest of the low in the pack. This union however was meant to change that. " Serena!" a stern voice yelled.from outside my door I recoiled. Liam's mother Luna Marissa was here already.Since the announcement, she had hardly spoken to me and always did so in a chilly and abrupt manner. "Yes Luna?" I returned the call as I hurried from my tiny room. She gave me a contemptuous look as her keen eyes took in my unassuming features." Three hours from now the
I sat on the wet forest floor gazing at the moon through the trees, hardly noticing the cold night. I was even tired of crying and my eyes hurt like a thousand needles had pierced them.My dress which was now filthy and wrinkled held on to me like a memento of the cancelled ceremony. I swallowed hard. If someone had told me that the love of my life would toss me aside like yesterday's trash, I wouldn't have believed it at all.The embarrassment was still vivid and my heart felt like it had been broken into a million fragments and my chest tightened again and again, making it difficult for me to breathe. Long after everyone had gone back to their packhouse, I had remained out here. Hiding and praying that no one finds me here, if not they had taken pictures, posted it on social media and made me beg for death.Ever since,my parents died at twelve years old. The only love I got from the world was from Liam but now thinking about it I felt if all it was a lie.I dreaded going home, I w
Our unbearably long silence was laced with tension and unsaid words.I had finally had to meet Liam, I was just too angry to keep quiet and let him disgrace me and cast me out like I didn't matter.Liam looked so guilty and for a while I wanted to know if he's going to kneel and beg me for forgiveness and say that everything that had happened were just pranks.I wiped my tears with my sleeves and looked away.I looked away, too angry to stare at him.I wanted an explanation and nothing else. He could take his love and give it to someone else I cared less about it.His voice was soft as he called my name and took little steps towards me."Serena." He said "Liam, please." I said in a very low voice as if raising my voice would break the thin thread that held me together. I shook my head. "Whatever you want to say, save it. Liam, don't try to explain your love for me. You made a decision. I heard it all. But I want to ask what did I do to deserve this?"He scowled and moved in clos
Situated deep within the forest where the sun hardly made it through the thickets was my grandmother's Packhouse , it was so small but I remembered it was so cozy and all that. The scent was a combination of cedarwood and the little traces of my mom's favorite lavender oil, so she does visit here frequently. The place still felt like her even though no one had lived here for years As I rubbed my fingers across the old and almost cracked wooden table, I was transported back to my early years. I had come here during the holidays when I was very little before my parents had died. Here she taught me how to bake bread, braid my hair and maintain my self-confidence in the face of anger or trouble .But I was not prepared for the rejection I had experienced by any of those lessons. It had come suddenly and left me wounded."This is it." I said, my voice shaking as tears were threatening to spill out." I'll start over here. "It felt like a hollow promise that I might not be able to fulfil
At first I didn't know where I was but it was the sunlight which poured in and made me open my eyes and knew that I was lying on a soft bed.The only thing I remembered were heart-pounding escape, rogue wolves and panic.I instantly regretted the motion as pain slammed into me.After my fingers touched my fored , I realized was experiencing a throbbing headache similar to what happens when the skull is violently struck. I quickly blinked trying to dispel the fog. Where was I?The floors were polished marble, the walls were tall and the rich atrs that hung on them all showed scenes of luxury. A commoner wouldn't have thought of it as a home. Right now, with the rush of panic returning I couldn't afford to daydream about stories. With my bare feet on the chilly marble ,I pushed off the covers. The room's height was the first thing I noticed, tall windows that let in enough natural light to confirm that it was no longer night. I forced myself to get up but my head hammered and my fe
SERENA'S POV I could feel my heart pounding in my chest and my eyes rolling in my head and I felt like fainting. As the sharp and persistent knock on the door echoed throughout the room,.i.knew I was doomed. My gaze locked with his. He was standing there, a stranger yet his gaze felt steady as if he was somehow anchoring me to keeping me from slipping into panic. He paused and then turned to me completely as if he was considering a choice. He twitched his fingers at his side and I saw that he was fighting with something.Whatever he was going to do it wasn't an easy task for him.“ Don't worry.” he said but I wasn't sure if he actually believed it.” I'll keep you safe.” I hardly knew this man but his words made me feel a little lighter somehow. EvenElliot my mate had never made me feel this safe with him.Protect me? I felt an odd warmth come over me but it was soon followed by a nagging fear that stopped me from breathing. SERENA'S POV The night silence enveloped me like a blanket and the evening air was cool. But I was aloneI wanted to fall asleep but hunger scratched my stomach and sometimes I felt so scared like someone was watching me, like those guards would come back.I sighed and buried my face in my palms as I burst into tears and my heart squeezed.I remembered Eliot, the rejection, the betrayal, the way he had treated me like trash and my hand went to my stomach .My little child, the only thing I had left. The door opened and a young woman, possibly a man, walked in holding a tray. Her demeanor was more kind than hostile. She didn't know how to approach me. “Thank you.” I said in a hoarse voice. She gave me a nod It seemed like she understood that despite my best efforts to blend in, I was not really one of them but she said nothing. She started to walk away but I interrupted her .“ Wait.” I said ,my voice soft in my throat. “Do you know the man who brought me here last night?”For
Even though there was a chill in the night that pricked my skin I was didn't notice it at all.I was so terrified.I could see them as I looked down the window. They were looking for me, everyone was looking for me.All I had time to do was breathe and have faith in Derrick. But no matter how hard I try to tell myself that it's fine and I shouldn't be scared, my heart pounded and I wonder what would happen to my child and I if we were eventually caught.Everyone was at risk from my very existence.“ I hate this.” I muttered to myself,my voice trembling and I wanted to cry. Despite all of this craziness,.Derrick turned to face me his dark eyes maintaining their signature expression. He was calm which I currently envied. “ Don't say that.” He said. “ We would be leaving tonight because theyll be searching all over for you.”I swallowed hard and said .”I know.” I sniffed and gave a small nod.I hated myself that very moment .Derrick threw some clothes to me.The clothing which was p

SERENA'S POV I exhaled and I stared at my fingersSadly the past has a way of entangling itself in the present. I could never get rid of it no matter how hard I tried to push it to the back of my mind. Elliot had left me so broken that loving again was like gambling and I wasn't sure if I wanted to love again. And here was Derrick, my heart was beating. I never imagined telling Derrick about my mate, Elliot the person who turned me down and threw me away as if I were unimportant, like I was just a piece of trash that should be taken out immediately and how foolish I was that I had allowed me make love to me and now I was carrying his child. As I relived the pain however my voice trembled and I muttered the words one after the other. “He didnt want me.” I muttered my throat aching from the memories. “ I thought that he did, like I was the best thing that had ever happened to him.But then everything changed and he claimed that I wasn't deserving of him. Yes, that was how I felt. How dare he? All these lies were making me go mad. I didn't know if I was to cry, to laugh, to yell at him.First I had a mate who left me for another and now I had another mate who keeps things from me.Wow.I first learned—not from him but from another woman—that he was the Alpha of a strong pack. Then I learned that ever since he saved me from those rogue wolves in the forest he had known I was his mate. And now here we were looking at each other and his deceit was like a boulder pressing down on my chest.I trembled as I whispered .“Say that again.”Derricks jaw tightened as he let out a sharp exhale. “Serena as soon as I saw you I knew you were my mate. The night I rescued you. I was following the scent and I saw you.”A scathing, dry laugh came out of my mouth. I sh

Everything happened so fast that I didn't see it coming. My cheek ached from the slap but the empty uncaring expression in Derrick's eyes hurt even more. He didn't even stop her, he just stood there staring at us as if everything was like a movieHe didn't speak at all. Touching my face with my palm against the burned imprint left behind made my breath hitches in my throat .The woman who hit me came even closer , her eyes blazing with rage. She spit out in a venomous voice .“How dare you address the Alpha by his name, you lowly servant?.”Alpha? My brain whirled. Was the Alpha Derrick? I stepped back, my vision going fuzzy as the realization hit me hard. Everything made sense now including the weight of the hatred in her eyes. This was new.How I'm I supposed —He didn't tell me. However, why had he not informed me? Why had he allowed me to think he was just Derrick? Desperately looking for an explana
The sun rays pushed through the sun and I blinked rapidly trying to understand what was going on and where I was.The last thing I remembered was I was standing with Derrick and the servant woman and the fight.Somehow, something felt different now, it was as if I had been transported into a new world.I sat up slowly. The room was so magnificent, worthy of a Queen.I was lying on a massive bed with heavy drapes of dark velvet which sat in the center of much beauty.Everything seemed to shimmer in an almost unnatural way, including the sleek contemporary furniture. I wondered again where I was as I brushed my hand over the plush silks as I reached out to balance myself on the bed's edge. It was too lovely. Too tidy. I felt confused.Where was Derrick ?My mind races as it worked to piece together what had happened . My last memory was of Derrick calling my name. The world had been a blur of panic growls and footsteps. Then. pain. As I fell I could hear Derrick calling my name and
I sensed that something wasn't right as soon as we stepped out of the boundary of the first pack we got to. We were received warmly and had a little dinner at a small in at the far end of the pack and immediately we were on our way again and my heart was beating even when Derrick was walking right beside me .My stomach rumbled because I had eaten very little but I didn't want to bother Derrick about it, he had done so much for me already.Only the glow of lamplights extending down the road, the hum of the night in the distance and the deserted street. I could feel eyes on me though. I felt as if my breathing was labored and that the air itself had become harsh to me. “I think something is wrong.” I whispered. He looked over his shoulder as if he thought someone might suddenly leap out at us from behind .But then, I heard it as we were almost at the end of the alley. a faint sound that was hardly audible.
