Chapter 1

I had put careful effort into dressing up for a date with my best friend, Ava Whitlock. We'd agreed to attend a music festival together in the city center.

As there was quite a bit of traffic on the road, I randomly checked out a live-streaming app on my phone. A live-stream video popped up upon entering the app.

The streamer, Brianna Giles, and several of her flashily dressed friends quickly caught my attention. I always enjoyed checking pretty ladies out, so I clicked on the live-stream video and began watching it.

But I was surprised to see the pretty Brianna crying in distress once I clicked on the video. She looked like she'd been gravely wronged.

"My boyfriend and I are in a long-distance relationship. I had no choice but to break up with him when I went abroad for studies three years ago. Unexpectedly, he still has feelings for me and was waiting for me to return after all these years, so we got back together again a month ago.

"This time round, I returned to Vireslo earlier than expected to give him a surprise. But guess what? I saw… I saw him with his arms wrapped intimately around another woman on the streets!

"So I confronted his side chick, and that seductress actually had the audacity to taunt me! She claimed that she was younger and prettier than me, called me an old hag, and even vowed that she'd take my place one day!

"My boyfriend's the CEO of a large corporation. I'm sure that tramp's only out for his money! Oh, I'm truly heartbroken!"

My heart ached uncontrollably to see such a pretty young lady being picked on by someone who had intruded on her relationship. And based on the comments, I wasn't the only one who felt that way.

The comments section was flooded with all sorts of comments backing her up and complaining about how she'd been mistreated.

"Oh, you poor thing! Had it been my boyfriend who had cheated on me, I'd skin both him and the tramp alive!"

"Is this how the world is turning out to be? Are side chicks really getting bolder these days?"

"This is unfair! If the law is unable to deal with homewreckers, then we'll have to take things into our own hands! They should get the punishment they deserve!"

"I agree with the comment above. We're better off taking action ourselves than waiting for someone else to handle them! You need to toughen up, Brianna! We'll help you take care of that minx!"

Brianna's mood seemed to lighten up gradually as she read the heated discussion in the comments section. Her gaze became resolute.

I was just about to leave a comment advising her not to act rashly when the car suddenly came to a halt.

"We're here, Ms. Crawford."

I exited the live-stream and picked up my new bag. As I got out of the car, I told the chauffeur, "You can head back now. There's no need to come and get me later. I'll find my own way home."

After leaving my instructions for the chauffeur, I excitedly walked toward the venue where the music festival was held.

Ava had already entered the main area and was waiting for me inside. I decided to use the washroom before heading in so that I wouldn't have to come out again later.

But after I was done using the toilet, I simply couldn't get the door of the cubicle I was in to open, no matter how hard I tried.

Could the janitor have accidentally locked the door from the outside?
