'She would lose her life alone in the forest '

David's taunting words made Carter depressed and angry at everyone. He doesn't know where Riley is and based on what David said, he injured her deeply to the point that she lost a lot of blood. He witnessed her blood in the forest. He know she must be feeling weak even though she could heal. But David is making it look like that Riley is at the edge of losing her life.

Carter is depressed and slipped into the back of his mind, willingly giving up his control to his wolf. He doesn't want to face the reality. He doesn't want to live in a world where there is no Riley. He is buried under the burden of his regrets.

'If only I could have protected more carefully. If only I could have killed David soon, then I could have had a chance to play with my pups and live happily with my Riley' he thought with anguish and guilt.
