IT WAS ALREADY afternoon when I went downstairs to try to talk to Mom and Dad again.I will try to negotiate. In my head, I tried to enumerate the things that I will do so they will see my sincerity. I'll apologize for leaving last night, apologize for what I did in Cebu, admit that my friends can be a bad influence, and promise to try to work in the company. Hopefully, that's enough to change Dad's mind.
”Isabella...” I heard Mommy's energetic voice as I descend on our grand staircase.
I glanced at our open patio, where the voices were coming from, and saw Mom and Dad there, accompanied by some familiar faces, known to me as the elderly board of directors, and one younger person with their back turned to them.
The younger man stood up. The two board members I greeted first were followed by.
Mom approached me with a smile, which was unusual because whenever I did something wrong, you would see her raising hell, not greeting me. Daddy remained serious while talking to the younger handsome guy who stood up.
I kissed my Mom on the cheek as I greeted the old bosses again before my eyes got a closer look of the man beside my father. In a split second, my jaw dropped when I realized it was a familiar face. Not just casually familiar! But...
"Isabella, this is Damon Montero. He is the new head of the Montero Resorts International," Daddy said.
The man's lips was also slight open as he looked at me. You could also see the surprise in his eyes but he slowly relaxed too.
His lips slowly pursed with a small smirk, as he held out his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Miss Morata."
I blinked repeatedly, still in disbelief. It feels like I'm still asleep and just having a serious nightmare?!
"Be polite," Mom's voice echoed as a whisper.
I couldn't accept the man's hand. My face heated and my heart feels like running a marathon.
The man in front of me, Damon Montero, is the stranger last night! With just a nod from Daddy, the elderly were led by his secretary, probably towards the mansion's conference room. We are left there with the man and I think I know why he did that! This is something serious and it involves his plan!
I quietly took the extended hand of the man, not wanting my parents to get angrier at me.
Damon looked at me with a smug look in his face.
Mommy guided me to the seat opposite the man before she sat next to me. I remained quiet but my heart was already raging. I am so confused! I want to confront Mommy and Daddy about what they want to happen but I can't because I am still too shocked that the man last night... is the same man I'm supposed to marry.
Dad cleared his throat. The elders finally left the dining table, and I faintly heard that some board members were also in the conference room. Perhaps they have a meeting today, which is why Damon is here too. I want to think that way but I know exactly why he's here and why... he's still with us right now!
"Dad-"
"Let me talk first, Isabella ," si Daddy cut me off.
Biting my lower lip, I almost pleaded for another chance but he continued.
"This is Damon, the man I'm talking about. I know you just met him but I am very positive that you'll get along with him well-"
"Daddy!" I cut off what he's saying, I lost my shame.
I don't care now if he's here. I will assert what's on my mind.
"l w-won't do it again. I will... work! I promise! Please-
Daddy smiled a bit on Damon before he looked at me. "Sure you will, sweetheart. You don't have to but if yo really want to, then alright. But for that, you have to talk to Damon about your arrangement at work. Damon..."
He smiled at my father. "That's not a problem for me, Sir."
With a furrowed brow and disbelief, I alternated my gaze between the two.Is this serious?!
Daddy noticed my gaze. "Isabella, we have arranged things for you. By the end of this week, you are bound to marry Damon so-"
"Daddy, are you really serious?!" I raised my voice.
"Isabella..." Mommy called gently, so I turned to her. I really couldn't believe them.
Damon was silent and serious as he looked at me panicking in front of him. How is this okay with him?! Besides that... Last night, did he know that I am the one Dad promised he would marry?! How dare him! Did he play with me?! What the hell?!
"Dad! Mom!" pleading with them.
"You don't have to look pitiful, Isabella. Damon is a good man, better than your friends-"
"But I don't like him!" I glanced at Damon but I didn't care anymore.
It also seemed like he didn't take it personally. In face, I even saw him smirk but I am too busy panicking to make a big deal about it!
"You will like him eventually, Damon." I really couldn't believe that it came from Dad.
I angrily looked at him.
" How can you say that?! You took away my freedom to choose who I want to marry, Dad! Just because of what I've done, you're going to dictate my life like this?!"
I said with tears forming in my eyes.
I am waiting for Damon to butt in and say I'm right, after all, it's just not me! He's the same, too.
We're in the same situation but he didn't do anything! The asshole only looked at me with his smug look, greed and arrogance reeking in his expression.
I am a catch. I am the daughter of Diego Morata, so why would he say no? Even if he doesn't love me, he'd marry me. And besides, do men like him even believe in love?
"Please, Isabella. We have talked about this over and over again. Damon is here-"
" l don't care, Dad! Can't you see? You're taking away my freedom so how can I stop myself from talking about this! This is a life-changing decision!"
Daddy closed his eyes, listening to what I said.
"This is something that I should be the one deciding because it's my life! I am going to be wedded to the person! I am going to live with him... and yet you didn't even consider my opinion?! Was it really just you and Mommy who decided?"
"And Why, Isabella?" Father's voice was dead cold, something he only uses when he's utterly irritated and angry. "If I make you choose, who would it be?"
I couldn't speak, my lips trembling.
"Do you have someone else in mind?"
If this was yesterday, I could easily say Luis. But if I think about it carefully, would my decision about Luis be right? I can't even answer him as a boyfriend because of my doubts about him. And most importantly, I know that Dad is waiting for me to answer that. I feel like he already has a defense for me the moment I mention his name. He's daring me to say Luis's name.
I remained silent, scared to say anything. I feel like he had it all figured out. Whether I like it or not, his decision is final.
"Damon is a good man. Do you really think I'll marry you off by just anybody?"
I still didn't answer, tears started to roll down my eyes.
"He's successful, career-driven, and honorable. "Who do you prefer? Your friend who was recently caught with drugs?"
I closed my eyes firmly. "Not really, Dad. There are still many other ways to..."
"l don't think so. Damon is even concerned that your name has been dragged in so many controversies that there is no turning back for you. Drugs, party, and all the other scandals. I've had enough of it!"
I shook my head, tears streaming down my cheeks. Mommy took my hand.
"The only solution to save our very stained name right now, And to save our business is for you to marry an honorable man."
I can't believe all of this is happening. And despite everything... I looked at the man in front of me with tears in my eyes, who seemed very serious, with that five o'clock shadow in his face.
"He could be your companion. You can choose to file for divorce after a year or whenever you wish, as long as you understand why I want to do this." He sighed.
"This is also difficult for me, Isabella. This wasn't my plan for you to marry like this, but I'll choose this, even if you don't like it, rather than let you leave and see you ruin your name and even yourself."
I UNDERSTAND. I understand why it has come to this. I've been involved in many controversies from high school until now. Recently, before the cocaine scandal, I got caught up in an ecstasy scandal because some of my college friends got into trouble!I understand where my brother is coming from when he expressed his concern for me. I was photographed dead drunk and in a very unbecoming state at an international party. It circulated with the tagline "Morata princess in ecstasy." After that, we were on a yacht with my friends, and while drunk and smoking, I was photographed again, kissing Luis wildly. Before all of this, my dad confronted me, and I chose to leave for Cebu after ordering a limited edition Bulgari. He was so angry at me that I used it as an excuse not to go home and to stay in Cebu. I only returned because of the scandal involving Luis and cocaine. They continued comforting, explaining, and persuading me until the secretary came in, indicating that my dad was needed in the
THE FOLLOWING days were filled with talks about the major preparations for the new Chief Executive Officer, Damon Montero, and the wedding of the "Morata princess," Ynah Andrea Morata. My father called me to his office at home, and now I am standing in front of him.It has been three days since I agreed to the marriage. I cut off my connections with my friends and realized that my life is about to take a complete 180-degree turn. Once I get out of this never-ending madness, I will disappear. My anger towards my parents is overwhelming. The door to his office opened. I didn't turn around, thinking it might just be my mother or a secretary, but I was wrong. I could feel him standing beside me, tall and proud."You called for me, Sir," Damon said.I glanced at him. He was wearing a casual coat and black pants, with his black shoes and a white button-down shirt underneath. He looked like a good catch, especially knowing he's a CEO. However, now that I know how ruthless he is, I'd rather n
I WAS surprised when Damon opened the door for me. I thought we would have a driver since this was a formal date. I looked up to see my mother at the top of the stairs, watching us leave. My father was busy with a meeting, so it was only my mother seeing me off tonight."I drive my own car. Even on dates," Damon said coldly, noticing my hesitation.I sighed deeply and slowly got into his black, heavily tinted car. I almost forgot that he's different from me, having grown up with a driver. Even though I know how to drive, I usually have a driver and bodyguard. Now that I think about his status, I wonder where we'll live after our wedding? At home, probably... I don't think my father will let me live anywhere else. He may be punishing me now by marrying me off to this man, but the thought of living separately isn't in his vocabulary. We have a lot of properties, and after graduating, I told him I wanted to live alone in a condo, but he didn't agree. What about now? Maybe Damon will liv
"PLEASE give her some sparkling juice instead," Damon said as the butler brought out the wine.My fake smile disappeared, especially when our eyes met, and I saw what he was trying to convey. He really thought I was addicted to alcohol and drugs and that he was going to save me by sending me to rehab... to cleanse me!"Right away, Sir!" The butler brought out another bottle, and our first course arrived quickly. I watched them set the food down, frowning and wanting to speak up, especially every time I saw Damon looking at me. He knew he had insulted me again, and he also knew what was coming once we were alone. The butler excused himself to give us privacy, standing a short distance away and checking in occasionally for our next course. I waited until he left before speaking. I caught Damon sipping his drink as I started."You asshole. You really think I'm an alcoholic?" I whispered, blending into the classical music playing. He set down his glass and wiped his mouth."Can't we talk
THE NIGHT was overall horrifying. The silence after our banter lasted. There was little conversation because the more we talked, the more irritated I became with him.As we left the hotel, Damon held my waist, guiding me. I let him, putting on a show for the audience, especially as we caught the attention of several people watching us leave."So, our schedule for tomorrow includes the fitting?" he asked."Yeah," I replied, sounding bored. We were already in the car, heading home. He glanced at me while driving through traffic, while I stared straight ahead."And the dessert tasting," I added, remembering the details from my schedule."I'll drop by your house after work. For the dessert tasting, just do it yourself. I’m not into sweets, and I have a meeting in the afternoon. I'll visit in the evening," he said.I rolled my eyes at him, feeling irritated again. He focused on the road, unaware that I was glaring at him.I've never been married, but I always thought these things were done
I SAT on the round sofa, directly across from the fitting room, waiting for Damon to finish putting on his tux. I crossed my arms and started to get bored. After a while, Damon came out from behind the curtains. It took a lot of effort to keep my expression neutral. I clenched my jaw to avoid showing any surprise when I saw him."It suits him perfectly!" one of the assistants exclaimed.A few more people came over to compliment him. Damon looked at me, showing off his tux."Do you like it, or should we find another one?""We don't have time. The wedding is soon. That one will do," I managed to say with a very indifferent tone.Damon shrugged. The assistants fell silent, so he nodded at them. "This is fine, then. Sorry, I need to decide now. We're both excited to get married."I almost snorted, noticing how the assistants seemed to pick up on the tension between us.Damon went back into the fitting room. After he changed back into his original clothes and came out, I stood up. He immed
UNLIKE OUR FIRST DATE, where I followed him while we held hands, this time was different. I walked alone towards the hotel entrance while he tried to keep up with me.Many people greeted him, and some greeted me as well. A few even took candid photos without any shame.Even though he greeted those who greeted him, he kept trying to catch up with me. I stopped when I reached the waitress who was to guide us to our reserved table. He reached me and quickly put his hand on my waist."This way, please."We walked to the table together, and I didn't comment on his hand on my waist, even though it annoyed me. It would only make a scene if I reacted. In a gentlemanly manner, he helped me with my chair before sitting across from me. Not long after, I noticed someone I knew near our table. I frowned and looked at Damon. He noticed my reaction and followed my gaze.Luis Bulusan was there, too. He was with a woman and was watching us!"Shall we serve the first course, sir?""Yes, please," Damon
"WHAT'S happening here?" Damon's cold voice interrupted.Luis and I both turned to look at Damon. He was standing in the hallway, approaching us. His eyes moved from mine to Luis's hand holding mine, and his expression darkened. When he reached us, he quickly pulled my hand away.Luis is tall and slender, but Damon is taller and more muscular, and years older than us, making him look more intimidating in front of Luis. Luis stepped back as Damon positioned himself between us."What did you do to her?" Damon demanded.Luis hesitated to respond. I expected him to say something, but he seemed too intimidated."Are you alright?" Damon asked me.My tears stopped, but my eyes still stung from almost crying earlier. Damon looked at me closely."Are you alright, Ysabelle?" he asked gently.I nodded. He placed his hand on my lower back and glanced at Luis."Let's go. You look unwell..." Damon said, and we started to walk away.We had only taken a few steps when Luis spoke again."Ysabelle, you
MY FATHER stood strong and mighty at the door. It was still closed, and the sponsors and guests had just entered.Everything felt surreal to me, like it was all happening in slow motion. Even the white curtain and the delicate white roses adorning the door seemed to move in slow motion. The day was windy, and my veil fluttered in the breeze. I held onto my father's arm tightly, with his hand resting on mine. My mother stood beside me, smiling and reassuring me that everything would be okay. The door opened. It felt like a magical door leading us to a new world. Except, this world felt like it would be hell for me.I'm not a particularly religious person. I talk to God in my head occasionally, but this time, as I took my small steps down the red carpet, I confessed that I didn't like what was happening. But I would trust in it because it was already happening. The first time I saw Damon at the altar was when we entered the chapel. His eyes were fixed on me as I walked down the aisle.I
THE DAY went by really fast. We entertained more guests as the hours passed, and both Damon and I were busy.At one point, I almost forgot I was pretending because I was so engrossed in talking with the guests. As the sun set, the reality of what would happen tomorrow hit me.Damon's relatives wanted us to dine separately, as there's a superstition that the groom shouldn't see the bride the night before the wedding. I heard my mom say it was alright and that we wouldn't sleep together. But because Damon's older relatives insisted, my mom agreed. Now, I'm in another restaurant with my family, while Damon is with his family at another restaurant.I was happy to be with my family, but this made me feel the impending wedding more acutely. My mom came to my room when it was time for bed. I was a bit surprised that she came alone and didn't bring my dad. I hadn't talked to my dad all day, and I was starting to think he was avoiding me."I'm glad you're doing well," she said, sitting on the
WE entered the study, one of the areas in the block used as my father's office when he's here. Now, my two cousins brought me in. I sat in my father's swivel chair while they stood in front of me, looking like predators.I frowned at both of them. Dio looked dark, with longer-than-usual wavy hair, wearing khaki pants, brown boots, and a white v-neck t-shirt. Nics, closer to the desk, had a clean haircut, probably for the wedding. He was still in black slacks and a white dress shirt, looking ready for work even on vacation."Happy now that your plans are working? Covering up all my scandals?" I said sarcastically."Why did you get involved in those scandals in the first place, Ysa?" Nics replied."And this is the best advice you can give my father?" They fell silent, looking at me."If you two were forced to marry someone you didn't know or like, could you handle it?" At first, I thought they understood what was happening. I thought they felt some remorse. But then, they shrugged it o
I COULDN'T sleep. I couldn’t stop thinking about how peaceful the day was even though I was in an awkward situation. My parents forced me to marry someone I didn’t know.We didn’t get along and didn’t like each other. Is it possible to have a peaceful day in the middle of all this suffering and fighting?I sulked as I remembered the photographers and videographers. Apart from that part, most of the time, I forgot they were there. After Damon and I swam quietly, he rested in the suite. I showered first while he prepared our dinner at the restaurant. He also spent some time with the photographers and videographers. By the time he came back to the suite, I was done.“You can check out our photos and videos outside. I ordered food for the photographers and videographers,” he said.I nodded. I was only slightly interested in the photos, but to give him space, I stood up. “Okay, I’ll check it out. You stay here and rest if you want.”He nodded.I went outside and briefly entertained the sta
WE agreed on everything. We continued with the planned activities for the day without any distraction from the shoot. We rode horses, each on our own, and spent an hour riding until we reached the golf course. When we arrived, we played golf. We were both competitive, and the game became more intense as we adjusted the rules. In the end, he won and flashed a broad smile at me.I glared at him. I wanted to protest and had hoped he would let me win. I didn’t like losing just for my own satisfaction, but it was okay because he had shown himself to be a gentleman! Why did I even expect that? This guy would do anything to win!But he didn’t have to be a gentleman or give in to me just to win. No way!“So what are the activities this afternoon?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. We had finished lunch and rested. He smirked.“Don’t you want to rest? I tired you out with golf.”“No, I’m fine. I have all evening to relax.”“So you agree? You’ll stay here?”I shrugged. “There’s no difference, so why
THE NEXT day came easily. In the silence of the mansion when I was alone, it was hard to believe that a grand wedding was just days away. Our wedding will be held in a small chapel at one of our country clubs. Mama wanted more, but in the end, she agreed to keep it simple and private, as much as possible. Especially since the nature of the wedding wasn’t ideal, but Papa insisted on making it grand to show that I am finally tamed and no longer the drug addict and alcoholic socialite Morata princess.I couldn’t believe that I was so indifferent to the idea. Or maybe it just hadn’t sunk in yet. I was getting married to someone I barely knew.A year ago, I was at a yacht party, enjoying the best of life.I heard the usual protocol of the house staff when Mama and Papa arrived. This time, however, I heard that a visitor was with their convoy. I peeked out the window and immediately confirmed it when I saw the following vehicle.I quickly ran to my room. I had been lazy all day, so I didn’t
I DIDN'T know how we managed to stay quiet and calm during that time.We walked out hand in hand, drawing curious glances in the lobby. He didn't have time to call the valet, so we took the elevator to the parking lot.We moved quickly, but he still made sure to open the car door for me. Once inside, he immediately pulled me close for another round of passionate kisses. I almost expected it, and I gave in to his kisses right away. His hands were everywhere. I was pushed back, and he easily reclined my seat while we continued kissing. We were getting lost in the kisses and his touches when we both heard our phones ringing! He kept kissing me, seemingly ignoring the ringing. However, I glanced at my phone and got a bit worried when I saw Mama calling. She doesn’t call me often, especially knowing that I was on a date with Damon!"Damon, Mama's calling," I whispered between kisses, but he didn’t respond.Instead, his kisses moved from my lips to my neck."Damon," I whispered again, still
