I stood at the door, anxious, waiting for her to open. Waiting to see her face again, after these dreadful five months.

You should have waited a little longer, I mentally scolded myself. But I couldn't, not when she called me, sounding scared. How was I going to convince her that I made it from Stormclaw to Ravenwolf pack— miles away from Stormclaw — within minutes?

The door swung open and I opened my mouth to explain.

“Sar—” The words died quickly from my mouth when I realised who was in front of me.

“I knew it was you all along,” Ava's eyes were glaring at me.

“—you knew?” I stammered, caught off-guard by her hostile voice.

Ava’s gaze was steady, just as her stance between the door. She was clearly determined not to let me into the house. “Of course, I knew. You might have fooled her with your little trick, but not me. There was clearly no one else who had seen me.”
