Ryder

“You’re awake.”

My eyes flung open at the sound and I shut it back immediately. I groaned lightly as the ache at the back of my head worsened.

“The light…it’s too…bright in here,” I whispered. My voice sounded parched to my hearing. But the stranger must have heard me because I heard the scuffling of feet.

“It’s okay now. You’re alright now, love. You can open your eyes.” The sound came again.

It was strange and unfamiliar.

Slowly, my eyelids fluttered open and my eyes fell on the white-washed walls. And a woman stood close to me. Her blonde hair was wrapped in a messy bun on the top of her head. And she was tall.

This wasn’t my room. And who was this woman beside me? Where was I? What time is it?

Trying not to panic, I raised my head, wanting to know where I was. A sharp pain flashed through my body and I hissed in response, dropping my head back down.
