The door flew open, and Lisa walked briskly into the room. At the sight of her, my body sagged with relief, and I ran towards her, throwing my hands around her neck. Her presence felt like a breath of fresh air and I greedily drank it in.

“I came as fast as I could,” she informed me breathlessly. Her hands held me back as her gaze roamed over my body.

A hint of panic reflected in her eyes, mirroring what I felt. The thoughts of my mother, vulnerable and alone in the house, crept up on me.

She stroked my face gently, “Your mama is safe,” she spoke, almost like she had psychic power. “I made sure one of the guys stayed with your mum. I left her in good hands, Sarah…Do you hear me?”

I nodded fervently. I believed her wholeheartedly.

“Now, we have to worry about getting you out of here.” She moved towards the discarded clothes on the floor. I could hear her shuffling through them.
