I watched as the car pulled onto the curb and Zane got out first, opening the back door. A small boy bounded out of it and Zane squatted to his level, pointing in my direction.

The little boy's face broke into a smile and he raced towards me.

“Papa! Papa!” he shrieked, jumping into my open arms as soon as he walked through the door.

“Hey, Alim. You look big,” I managed to squeeze out. His grip on my neck was too tight.

Thank you, I mouthed to Zane as he walked past. He smiled, tapping two of his fingers on his head before he vanished with two luggages.

Zane had spent all night telling everything he could about my boy. My boy. The sound of it brought joy to my heart.

I tickled him under his shirt. “You're taller than I am, boy.”

“Not true, papa,” he said in his little voice, as he rested his head on my shoulder and snuggled deeply. “Uncle Zane said you're recovering. That I'm to help you remember things.”
